    I've went to drowning rods. Yes they are heavy but they work everytime and I don't have to get in deep water to set or retrieve animal.

    With a slide wire for coon or coyote I'm I correct that you need a solid stake that could hold up to a burn circle. Or could you wire tie to tree at both ends? Also would concrete tie wire work (spool wire) or do you need heavier gauge?

    How would you stake for beaver in a shallow creek thats less than knee deep?

    How do you get rid of skunks without smelling like one

    • @SpiritMjolnir
      @SpiritMjolnir 2 года назад

      Either a skunk live trap dropped in water. Conibear bucket set. Or if you catch them in a foothold you can either shoot them from a distance or dispatch them with a syringe of acetone on an extendable pole.

    Hi. Great video, as always! What gauge wire would you recommend for using as a slide wire for beaver?
    I trap big northern beaver, but love using small (#2 Bridger four coil) footholds. I have good luck, but use 3/32 aircraft cable, and big weights to kill them.
    Thanks for any advice!

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  8 лет назад

      +chuckinvt When using wire for drowners, I use 14 gauge wire - but only get one use as it's usually so twisted up after a catch that it won't allow the lock to slide freely. I got tired of fooling with that so I went to 3/32" cable and that worked much better as I could coil the cable up and reuse it. Here lately I use the rebar rods as often as possible for a couple reasons. One is that you don't need heavy weights with the rebar - just jam it in the mud and go. Beaver trapping is hard work and any way to save weight is a plus. I know some guys that have gone to 1/2" diameter fiberglass rods instead of rebar because it is so much lighter.
      If I could find some locally I would definitely try that. You might be able to find some being up north I hear they use them as drive way markers in the snow. Just a thought.
      Take care Chuck and have a good season!

    When a trap gets stolen does it usually have an animal in it ?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  7 лет назад

      thevernonposse In many cases yes. Many times it is the animal that attracts attention to the trap.

    Where is the best / cheapest place to buy traps and trapping supplies?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  9 лет назад +1

      +Neil Currie There is not much price competition between vendors. I use www.fntpost.com/ most of the time. They have a very good selection and amazingly fast shipping. Their website allows you to create an account and save favorites and keep up with all your orders.
      When I need MB Brand traps or Fox Hollow brand lures, I go to www.minntrapprod.com/ as they supply those. Hope this helps!

    If you are forced to only use one type of trap for beaver (foot hold or body grip) what will it be.

    When drowning your prey, doesn't that increase the risk of the meat spoiling before you can harvest it?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  7 лет назад +1

      Leonard Urban Excellent question. In my area, it's very rare that the water temperature is warmer than the air temperature, so most of the time drowning lowers the temp if the meat, of course, in hot weather, keeping the animal alive is the best way to keep the meat fresh.

    Hey Meat Trapper I have a video on my page with my thought on a reusable submerging slide wire, you have the best trapping videos on you tube and I would love your feedback on the slide setup I made. If you have an extra 6 minutes please check it out and let me know your feedback, if you like the idea feel free to modify or take the idea. Thanks for the videos and knowledge you provide!
