wow you're very knowledgeable. great video! I'm a old school trapper and I haven't trapped in years. your videos are getting me pumped up to start doing it again. oh and I just subscribed :)

so my leap spring traps already have a pain tension device I kind of figured but they don't seem to move the traps are vintage and they are barely legal for land set given their size they are at the limit I just made my first Pogo anchoring rod this past weekend
More springs=faster, yes (MS perhaps). More springs=more powerful hold, no. The levers are what hold the jaws shut. Unless the trapped can depress the levers simutaneously the jaws will not open.
Yeah I've hade both in the past but I like the coilspring traps more because I Trapp more fox Bob cat and coyote so I do not have to dig as big as a trap bed
I prefer to position the trap so that the animal steps between the jaws so the jaws close on the paw like a suitcase. This can be hard to do if you do not know which direction the animal is coming from, but if possible that is what I try for.
What do u recommend brands to stay on the humane safe side of #4 or 5 traps i ordered some online & i wish i could send u a picture i ended up with cheap china made traps my plans are mostly for coyotes we have problems with them on horse farms in my town
+owen miller Great question. A #0 will hold a rabbit, but a conibear or snare would be better. The problem with rabbits and footholds is the way a rabbit hops it is difficult to get them to step on a small trap pan. You don't have this issue with a conibear or snare. Between a conibear and snare, I have had serious problems snaring rabbits as since they are alive and causing a commotion, they attract hawks and coyotes who usually eat them before I get to them. With a conibear, they will be dead and this will be less of an issue. Thanks for watching and good luck!

This is kinda off topic but I feel you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs and I really trust you and you're opinion. OK since I live in the South like yourself what is the process and or proper way to handle your fur after its been fleshed and boarded? I now up North where it's nice and cool during trapping season you can hang it and let Nature take its course, but what about Down South??? Thanks for your time and help.
Koot 1971 Dust it with borax, and keep it in a cool dry place if possible. A fan blowing lightly across it helps. If it started to mold dip a rag in acetone and brush the leather lightly and let it dry.
Thank you sir. It's always hard to decide what to talk about. You don't want to bore people but I also want to get new people into trapping as well. If I leave something out or something is not clear be sure to let me know. Have a good day.
I know you know full well what your doing with a trap. But given the nature of the video ( for beginners ) you shouldn’t put your hand in the trap . Not so much for yourself but just so newbs don’t see that and pick up a bad habit Love your videos , not trying to be a killjoy
Best instructional trapping videos on the planet!
I use a combination of coils and longsprings for beaver, just depends on how much space I'm working with
Nice job on this intro. I agree about "long spring traps" being the Go-To trap.
OK YOU GOT ME MOTIVATED GONNA CUT SOME LUMBER FOR RABBIT BOXES TODAY GOT ENOUGH TO MAKE ABOUT 4 MORE. THANKS BROTHER GOD BLESS.

Great video and thanks for sharing. Later and all the best this season.
Thanks my friend. The weather is finally cooling off down here. Getting ready!
I run coil springs for both land and water. But I know a few guys who run long springs for bobcats because they can have a much larger pan
I run coil springs for land trapping but I know a few guys who try bobcats who love long springs because you can have a much bigger pan
Coil spring traps do need to remove the pan before you spray paint them so the parts do not stick and not work properly.
Can't wait to see the next one

When converting a coil spring trap to an "offset" version, might one use a right angle hand held grinder, or even a chopsaw?
The quick and dirty way is to pop the jaws out of the frame, reverse them and put them back in the frame.
Great video
great info. thanks for sharing

Wado for sharing.I am learning.ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
Great instruction! Thanks for sharing.
Very good info on traps. Tks
Enjoy the video keep them coming
meat trapper I know you concentrated on blind sets but on flat sets and dirt hole sets do you prefer the dog to be closest to the hole or backing?

What is the make/model of that hammock at the end of your video? It looks comfortable.
That is a "Ridgerunner"hammock made by Warbonnetoutdoors.com. Pricey but nice. Thanks for watching.
+The Meat Trapper: Thanks.
Thanks for the lesson sir👍🤘👊

MB 550 traps are ade in USA and are well designed for paw protection.
Would a #0 long spring be good for rabbits or should i use conibears

What kind of hammock is that, and from where did you get it?
Leonard Urban www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/product/ridgerunner-hammock/. Best hammock I've ever owned. 100% top quality handmade in America.

The Meat Trapper Thanks for the info. About how long should I let it hang before dusting it with Borax?
Hey I was wondering if you laminate your traps?
Ohio traper Since I'm a water trapper I do not.
+The Meat Trapper do I have to laminate a trap for it to catch coyotes?
Ohio traper You do not have to, but it is a very good idea for land animals. It reduces paw damage and helps hold them.
I kept waiting for the trap to accidentally go off while he kept moving his fingers across the pan
