Nice show as always! I love it! but, I think you guys forgot ACDSee in the photo organization alternatives to Picasa. Both ACDSee and IrfanView are really old, maybe the first ones to come with the idea of photo organization ;). About the buttons and things you use to record the shows, I'm interested! As this is a tech-channel, it would be great to meet the devices you use to make it! From the buttons on the tables, to the cameras, microphones, teleprompter (if you use it), or even the OS and software you use to edit it! A behind the scenes episode! :). Oh, and even you could introduce us the infamous screen with the android video loop that you have behind you guys during the show! :). Regards from a Spanish guy living in Norway and watching your show EVERY WEEK from the Arctic Circle :)
I watch you guys religiously! I love everything you bring and I hope to contribute soon when i get my taxes lol. You both remind me of friends I have and its always like I'm hanging out with friends when I'm watching the show, Thank you so much and just know everything you do is appreciated even though there are obviously people who don't appreciate it but hey that's their loss. tee-hee. keep up the fantastic work!
A couple of things: 1. Yes, on the USB button hack for changing sources. 2. On the KeePass / Lastpass ... I am using lastpass now, what would it take to migrate to KeePass? Just export / import or something else? Keep on keeping on, love the show .. take care
Some people do have a talent for making charcoal on occasion that includes me. I microwaved a hunk of pork last night that was to die for. I've never had it come out that good before. Scrumptious.
You guys talking about microphones and lighting makes me curious about the "behind the scenes" of TekThing. Any chance you can flip the camera around in one show and show what you guys are looking at?
For the best credit card security, use virtual account numbers (like citibank mastercard, I think BoA and others use it). The virtual credit card number is tied to a vendor's id. You can set a limit and expiration date. They act more like a prepaid card that you can reload anytime online. When Citibank issued a new chip and pin/sign card, they moved all of my active virtual cards to the new number. When there is a suspected/confirmed security breach at a vendor, Citibank deactivates the virtual card numbers for that vendor and doesn't have to issue you a new card. I have been using them for close to 10 years. Only con, I have come across, is every year you have to update expiration dates and credit limits on recurring virtual cards. You learn to time the virtual cards to expire in same month.
I agree I hate gem rolls. I'm here to learn to be a better player. I like what you're doing just make sure to mix up the player levels you help so we see different stuff, areas of the game.
+Alex A Tekzilla and DIY Tryin were part of Revision 3 which I believe was shut down and those shows just got left for this. Hak5 was also a Revision 3 show that went on to live afterwards. This is what I think, don't know for sure.
Yeah, it was really the second or third show from Rev3 that was like that. The first one I remember was Systm. and if I remember right there was another one...
For Lightroom like power their is darktable for Linux. Also bar none for Linux in tagging and organizing is DigiKam 4.0 And for lightroom their are standalone installed non-cloud options. As still using Lightroom 3.6 fits all my needs and use it for Clients like Google,Microsoft,Magazines and stock like Getty images. So good enough not needing the subscription cloud based thingy.
+DansEuropeVlog Because we were discussing Picasa alternatives, not lightroom, and that one didn't come up in my research, but that's why I love you guys! A thousand eyes are better than two. :) - Shannon
I'm curious about a good sub-100, 150 dollar entry level PC streaming setup. As an editor, I would also love to see something on your arcade switcher. If it's using something like arduino I'm going to be tickled pink.
Even with chip and pin, the same security issue is alive over here in Euroland. I'm speaking of course of terminal malware being installed on pay terminals. Its a dirty little secret, but instead of the terminal collecting card numbers, expiration dates, etc, and shipping the info off to somewhere in eastern Europe, the chip and pin malware actually makes the pay terminal purchase things from online retailers using whatever card is currently being used at the time. It fools the terminal into showing nothing wrong with a customer's transaction, but in reality its being used to purchase some nice 70" 4K tellys for someone at a dropsite(usually a unattended home). So don't think chip and pin is the end all of all secure commerce.
+lilricky2515 You're right, it's not foolproof (ex. some months ago on Krebsonsecurity.com there was a write up about a hacker who created a pretty sweet hack against the readers - I'm too lazy to look it up right now), but it's definitely better. That's why I didn't say "foolproof". Any hacker knows nothing is foolproof, and if you think it is, you're living under a rock! The problem with signature style (and I'm aware of this from working at banks) is that no one actually checks the signatures, and they can be easily copied. Chip and Pin IS better, but again, I DID NOT say it is perfect.
Shanon Chip and pin may be better but it's not foolproof. There's quite a few hacks in the wild for it and banks just ignore them and tend to blame the customers more when they get owned.
+Fuxy22 S-h-a-n-n-o-n is how it's spelled. :) You're right, it's not foolproof (ex. some months ago on Krebsonsecurity.com there was a write up about a hacker who created a pretty sweet hack against the readers - I'm too lazy to look it up right now), but it's definitely better. 16:43 try borrowlenses.com was mentioned by Patrick, I've rented from them and they offer local pick up, which is a good thing if you live by one of their pick up locations, but otherwise, you get it shipped to your house. They also have the best prices I've seen so far.
Crap Google! What on earth can I use to transition my 4000+ field research videos with Picasa captions and tags? Sure, tons of alternative tools. But who really starts from scratch and wants to scrap their metadata? My work just became liability because nobody can help or guarantee the migration. Sayonara Google.
+Grant Tobgo I guess it's a good thing I got my hair done for myself, not to please some dude on the internet named Grant Tobgo. I feel like you need a hug, I'm sure Patrick would love to give you one. :) -Shannon
man this has to be the best quality channel for how many sub's you have hope it grows fast trying to get the friends to watch too
I remember Patrick from TV, but Shannon is a 10/10 host as well. The set and way they present the show makes it seem like TV quality too.
ya no joke it's amazing

+Gabriel Melendez Thanks for watching :) We hope it brings some education to folks every week! - Shannon
nothing is like Picasa its the best
I thought those arcade buttons were just decorations, that's awesome and something you need to do when you're your own producers.

Thanks ... love the show (yep, I even do a little on Patreon ... wish others could do a little too)
See if Snubbs has a suggestion on hints using systemd ... I liked init scripts, but systemd is what is in vogue, I just need to get up to speed!

"Darktable" is an open-source Lightroom alternative for Linux and Mac. No windows binary yet :(
Happy to see you guys support the 2nd amendment! Love the show keep up the good work!
+Benjamin Mouch You should see my instagram! :D I post pix whenever we go to the range. - Shannon

+Steve Doyle teeturtle.com is amaaaahzing.
I got a blue yeti based on Shannon's suggestion last year and I do not regret it.
great job please do another episode on keepass.
Yes. What +Jay Zelsmite said!
I agree I hate gem rolls. I'm here to learn to be a better player. I like what you're doing just make sure to mix up the player levels you help so we see different stuff, areas of the game.
If you like Lightroom, you could also suggest Darktable, which is available for OSX and Linux.
hah I remember that it was the easy bake oven for boys pretty much, I made fishing lures with them heh
I would like to see a segment on the camera switching hardware... can I pull off a hadoken with it?
+LordDrachenblut Probably, once you hit the right key combo. ;) - Shannon
+TekThing Is this your 3rd channel you've made? DIY Tryin and Teckzilla was cool while it lasted, just wanted to know whats going on.
+Alex A Tekzilla and DIY Tryin were part of Revision 3 which I believe was shut down and those shows just got left for this. Hak5 was also a Revision 3 show that went on to live afterwards. This is what I think, don't know for sure.

Haven't seen Shannon since coding 101, love the new hair style!

Love Shannons hair!!
I got a $7.99/month deal for Lr and Ps... different discounts pop out every now and then
Our local library lends out still and video cameras.
For hiding a picture... How about convert or encrypt your photo to base64 text and save it in a google doc?
Hey shannon how did you not mention Darktables its a great lightroom alternative and its free and open source
+DansEuropeVlog Because we were discussing Picasa alternatives, not lightroom, and that one didn't come up in my research, but that's why I love you guys! A thousand eyes are better than two. :) - Shannon
I would love to be able to have a set for my web show like you guys have now or even from TekZilla
I'm down for a video on the angle switcher!
I got a chip card, tried to use it at my local store... didn't work, tried a few times, gave up and swiped...

good stuff thanks
Shannon, try a crockpot or a George Foreman grill.
11:44 Patrick dictates, while Shannon interprets through body language.
what about song recoding for beginner....yeti is goos?
Apparently the Blue Yeti is quite the cult microphone?

If you install apps from text messages, it's your fault for getting hacked.
Buttons are cool, but keep hering the clicks
+Jasper Waale Yes, it would be nice if they could replace the clicky switches with something quieter
