"Sonic X Shadow Generations" was the BEST move Sega could have made. All of the reward, with none of the risks associated with potentially screwing up a "Sonic Adventure"/ "Sonic Adventure 2" remaster. With one game, Sega is taking full advantage of brand recognition/ synchronicity by releasing a title covering much of Sonic's, AND Shadow's history- just in time for the release of the third Sonic movie. All the while introducing Shadow's character, and backstory to newer fans/ a broader audience in the process. Rather than remastering two games, both of which would have faced unbelievable scrutiny regardless of quality, or even just skipping over the first game entirely, and remastering the second "Adventure" title in order to garner the same level of brand symmetry by likewise releasing it alongside the third movie- Sega picked the one game that could accomplish all of it, and achieve just as much success in introducing Shadow to fans whom are less than familiar with his character, and did so in the most practical way possible.
This is an absolute win.
An absolute win for sega mainly because if this is a success then they will likely gain the balls needed to remaster, or god forbid remake, the adventure games. And if it’s a flop then sega can also just keep cowering inside the “no more 3d ‘gen 1’ sonic games” shell that they have been hiding in since 2006.

I really hope we get the same amount of Modern Sonic levels for Shadow. I don't expect the amount of levels that both Sonics got, but it'd be nice to have, say, nine levels overall.
Nine is what it should be, knowing Sonic Team I bet only 5 or 6. But hopefully he gets 9 stages that are at least 3 minutes each and then 3 bosses (the third being Mephiles)
Realistically I feel like we could get six or seven. Radical highway, final chase, an original map based off where his healing tank was in sonic heroes. Westopolis, the eggman base with all the clones, another space level and a sonic 06 level with like three maybe four boss fights (sonic, bio lizard, mephiles and doom) i feel like mephiles would be like the final boss after he beats doom as like his trump card if he get beats

I expect 3 levels (about 1.5x the length of both modern and classic) and 3 bosses with significance to his origin (Biolizard, Black Doom, Mephiles), to reflect Sonics' rival boss, an end stage boss, and final boss.
Maybe if we're lucky, a SA2 type multiplayer mode with just Sonic and Shadow. Shadow's boss fight lays out pretty solid ground work for a MP versus mode.
A Sonic unleashed remaster could allow them to make the night time sections better and it would be nice if Sonic got unhinged and shadow or Espio came in to keep him in check at points like a reoccurring boss fight that changes as you progress
I think it would be cool if they re-invented the fighting combat for the werehog. Maybe get Platinum games to help change it a bit. Or Sega can at least look at Platinum games action games and take notes when fixing it.
@@DaveDynamite1the werehog combat is fine though? Only tweaks I would add are adding the ability to parry and having some of the combos unlock earlier so there is less morons going around thinking the combat is just hitting the X button
@@Supersonicspyro I agree with you as well. With your same idea I would also add in a feature that depending on how close you are to enemies your attacks move towards them like in other action games like Bayonetta.

I don't think Shadow's gameplay is intended to be a "different gameplay style" in the sense of classic vs adventure vs boost- he does have extra abilities which i like a lot, but what I'm noticing is that his content almost certainly takes place in the Frontiers engine, if not just at least with its physics backported to Generations' engine. The lighting effects, stage object scaling and the way he can move around after performing a homing attack is almost identical to the way Sonic moves around doing the same thing in the Cyberspace stages. Someone's gotta try out the homing boost thing on him.
Yeah even the way the graphics look is hinting towards these being on two different engines.
Generations uses Havok for its physics and HE1 for graphics.
Shadow part looks to be using the newer HE2 for graphics and anoher physics engine (Don't actually know which for sure).
They may be two exceutables entirely, just using a common launcher most likely.

What tipped me off about this game was actually the steam deck of all things. For the past few years the deck has said that sonic generations is a “unsupported game” then in a blink of an eye it becomes a green checkmark saying it’s “fully supported” and I said to myself “somethings up” then the following day was when the trailer drops
Can't wait for the traumatised parents who had to look up "Sonic x Shadow" to then have to watch Maria get shot, and then proceed to take their kids to the third film, expecting it to be light & fun...

5:29 "and Shadow 05" man I was NOT Expecting that
Shadow was playable in Forces beyond the Episode Shadow bit. Any stage in which Modern Sonic alone could be played, you had the option of using Shadow after you downloaded the day one dlc. That said, that was 7 years ago, so it's kind of fair to say that Shadow hasn't been playable in a Sonic game for a while. I do expect that the option to play as Shadow in base Generations will be available, with Shadow likely limited to his Forces moveset when you play as him outside of the part that's focused solely on him. It really wouldn't take much to make it happen, honestly. I do hope that they'll take this opportunity to also fix some of the bugs that were present in the original Generations, simply make it an even more polished experience to make it the definitive version of Sonic Generations. It would also be nice if they included the 3DS levels since there's soon to be no way to play that version this very year once the 3DS servers go offline. At least, no easy and low priced way to play it. (Unless they include that as a bonus for SonicXShadow Generations, then I'll be fine without having the 3DS levels in the main game.)
At any rate, one good thing that the movies have done is to bring back respect to the cast. We've had Sonic fixed, Tails was fixed by Sonic 2 as was Knuckles. I fully expect Sonic 3 to do the same for Shadow, and hopefully the same for Amy and Rouge. It's going to be an exciting year for everyone who loves Shadow, that's for sure. That includes me, as I do have a lot of love for the dark hedgehog, he's a legitimately interesting character if not the most interesting in the franchise, and this is acknowledging how interesting the lore for Knuckles' people is to begin with. The hype is definitely real here, I'm not afraid to say that this will be a very good year for Sonic and his friends, and this is keeping in mind how good 2023 was for them to begin with.
It's wishful thinking but I think it'd be so cool if they added the 3DS-exclusive Levels and Bosses (Maybe you encounter Shadow specifically during the 3DS Biolizard boss fight?)

6:36 it’s absolutely radical highway, when it goes to the straight line area and shadow runs straight up toward the sky you can see the roads are exactly like radical highway
The buildings and sky do look a lot like westopolis though, and given all the reality warping it’s entirely possible these stages are going to be a blend of similar levels
That space colony ark area looks like a blend of final rush as it was in SA2 and the Ark levels from Shadow the Hedgehog (the coloring is more akin to that game’s depiction of the ark)
Also the leak says there’s a new game for a prologue and a new game in the holiday
What if the second holiday game is the shadow focused game, and the generations side story is the prologue for it o-o that’d line up if the holiday is Christmas-ish

I think this is great! Sega is finally introducing other sonic characters who haven't been playable in the main line games in over decade! It seems like future sonic games may have with multiple stories and playable characters in the future like in sonic adventure with the last one being sonic 06

I think that Sega is playing it safe by choosing Sonic Generations to remaster. They have to get a game with Shadow in it before Sonic The Hedgehog 3 releases and this is a good idea to put him since Sonic Generations takes levels from so many games. I would of preferred that they first remaster Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 2006, and Sonic Unleashed just to name a few Sonic games.
they didn't "abandon" the Black Arms plotline. the Black Arms got exterminated at the end of ShtH; they got eclipse cannoned into oblivion, their story is over.

Wrong game. This is like MercurySteam working for Nintendo, but a lot of people are crying that "Sega" is not being good enough.
They're remaking Generations because it's in a different kind of downstream flow BECAUSE it's already out for PC, and they can let a third party redo it with limited creative freedom. Generations EXACTLY is the game that would be safe enough TO get this work done on. Sega is essentailly ALLOWING a different company to do work on THIS piece of IP, it's nothing but additional.
Demanding another game to be remastered instead, would be the same if Nintendo hired somebody to make Another metroid 2 Remake... oh yeah, but they were dunked on because they didn't hire those OTHER basement-dwellers, who never applied because they can make more money tax-free on Patreon.
If somehow the AMR2 team ahd worked with Nintendo, fans would cry that THAT ONE wouldn't be good enough. Here's SEGA fans crying that Unleashed remake isn't happening. Sonic fans apparently don't want this team to get trained into making their version of Metroid Dread. When Sega was ALREADY trying but got burned with broken negotiations with Headcannon and Blind Squirrel. So please don't assume this is internal like Mario 3d World converted onto an actually successful console.

I also feel that Gens is the perfect game to pick for the inevitable wave of kids who'll want "The new shadow game".
It markets the entire boost era Generations and Unleashed defined in the Sonic story, whilst having room to actually narratively fit Shadow as well as potentially showing off (and marketing) some of what the team learnt during the development of Frontiers, the game that'll likely end up defining the next generation of Sonic

seeing shadow’s spin jump animation i am fully convinced they will make his gameplay very forces like, since in that game you did basically just teleport to enemies when homing on them and then you like froze mid air in a pose for a solid second. dunno how to feel about that

I honestly would want a Secret Rings remake, it’s easily one of my favorite Sonic games because of its multiplayer side mode and story. If there is any pre boost era game that I think could be completely remade and given a boost I think Secret Rings would be the best game for that. Who knows not only could the game be be completely remade with a fully controllable Sonic but they could also give us an expanded multiplayer side mode with more boards for each mode. As for something they could add to the game itself beyond just expanding the party mode? Maybe they could have full on racing multiplayer like SA2 or Heroes, with options to play as Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Blaze. Playing the SA2 race mode was really fun, I just wish the ability system wasn’t there.
I am excited for Sonic Generations remastered X Shadow Generations. I am just saying what I think would be a cool game for SEGA to remake/ remaster instead. I do hope however that Shadow Generations has either an Egg Fleet, Sky Troop, or Gun Fortress Level. I find the Sonic levels where your on a flying warship to always be the coolest ones.

8:13... ok hot take for a second, tin foil hats on... Sonic Generations 3ds content. With the 3ds being dead, and that version of the game having not just different stages, not just different boss fights... but um one of those being the BIOLIZARD, I think it'd be fricken cool for them to include those. Well ok obviously Green Hill let's just ignore that since we already got the console versions of that, but we got Casio Night from 2 (which is already sort of in the console versions with the pinball game lol), Mushroom Hill, Emerald Coast, Radical Highway (oh wait a minute is that a Shadow level I see?), water palace, and tropical resort.
That or... I'd love to see Silver be playable, come oooon the dude's got 1 game and people love him. 1 because he's only got 1 game we want more with him playable, 2 because he's only got 1 game thus a future reremaster Sonic X Shadow X Silver Generations wouldn't make sense and provide basically nothing. Along with since they confirmed Shadow was behind the scenes doing stuff... that would mean Metal Sonic and Silver also did behind the scenes stuff right? Since all 3 rival fights and characters weren't affected by the Time Eater... thus Metal Sonic especially with his 30th last year also could get a campaign, buuut I get it that might be too much. Now a pallet swap with Shadow or Sonic maaaybe could work for Metal... but not Silver since he performs completely differently.
These are my highest of hopes, that being said no I don't think they're likely, especially the latter points (though hey, a Sonic CD level playable, another SA1 and 2 stage since Metal was in those? Then another Heroes level, then a cool fight of Metal Sonic vs Metal Overlord for Heroes? That would be bad ass Super Metal Sonic vs Metal Overlord). I can see the 3ds inclusion being... maaaybe a 7/10 chance, but 50/50 feels more realistic but I do hope they do more to provide more juicy content besides Shadow's campaign to convince those of us that not only already bought the game, but maybe bought it more than once. I know I personally have it for 360 and Steam... in fact bought the Steam one last year, especially for modding purposes.
Any extra content is good content, and this is super cool, just hoping for a lower price because I'm poor or something... more as greedy as that sounds, I don't want to sound greedy or ungrateful, but yes for an older fan, hoping that bonus content extra tag means a decent chunk of new content for Sonic's campaign or something else.
I'm racking my brain on what they didn't include on shadow's story. I think sa2 shadow the hedgehog & sonic battle were pretty thorough

I didn't see plot holes till the internet said otherwise.
So another thing we have to remember with this week is perhaps they did have the knuckle shows that for 2024 first quarter when no one was😊 working due to the actor strike

15:50 ye, agreed, even ones available on current platforms, Adventure 1 and 2 could and people have been asking for remakes of for years. Heroes would be neat and hasn't gotten even a port like the Adventure games, same with Shadow's game, making Project 06 an official Sonic 06 remaking and Sega going in to back that creator up, that's 5 right there lol. However yeah this isn't a bad thing by any means, this is one of their if not most popular 3d title. My only complaint like with Origins the past 2 times is that price tag and whether it will be worth it or not, but we haven't seen said tag yet, so yeah fine to make comments, but nothing to get super riled up over just yet.

I. PLAYED. UNLEASHED. FOR THE WEREHOG LEVELS!!!
During my playthrough, the night levels were the main attraction to me. The daytime ones were pretty hard to get used to, and if I ever got stuck on a level, it was always a daytime one. Meanwhile, I've mastered the nighttime levels so well, the only ones I didn't have S ranks on by the time I finished the story was the Eggmanland ones themselves. Speaking of which, in eggmanland, I could not get past a specific part in the day stage for the life of me, and I sat on it for nearly a year. The whole time, I kept thinking: "This is going to get so much easier once I get to the nighttime part." The day I got past it, I finished the game, because then I was able to blast through the nighttime part of Eggmanland and beat the boss.
So, FRAG everyone who disses the Werehog, FRAG Sega for forgetting about the thing that got me into Sonic in the first place, I want either a sequel or remaster of Unleashed!!!

This is going to be the first time we’ve seen super shadow in a main line game since 06. Wild.
on one hand I do wish that shadow's gameplay looks more like the shadow mods from generations. Evolving the frontiers engine is the right move, especially with some more open room-like level design, It will be fun to see how they interact with his movement if it's based in the open zone or at least has some customizability which needs to be a constant (it really does). people have made videos about how to tweak controls for a specific sonic gameplay style so they should really keep it or better yet add more to it.
