He forgot to mention that if the money gets short by even a R10 half the way to it's destination, the driver can drive all the passengers back to the taxi rank😂
🤣🤣🤣
And he doesn't want to someone else to pay, he wants that particular person to pay.
R10 is a lot, they turn back for R1😭
😂😂😂😂😂
I was just about to comment this.🤣
@@kgomotsotlhapane1161we once turned by M1 bridge to drop off a drunk passenger back at Bree taxi rank
Its funnier because he's actually being REAL. These are all valid tips lmao. Being told to sit on the engine for the first time as a child changed my life forever
I used to love it as a child during the winter season because at least I got a heated seat 😅
Sitting on the engine lol, you just revealed your age. I remember sitting on that unbearably hot engine
The engine is the best heat warmer during winter
The engine is always occupied when I get into the taxi. I sit at that "leg rest thingie" near the back seat...Painful🤣🤣
I once left a cellphone in a taxi and was phoned by him and got it back. I believe this was a unique experience.
me too vey unique experience 🙏
I lost my phone twice in a taxi and I got back twice thanks to our honest taxi drivers
I lost mine twice and got it and in Joburg nogal. Some are very honest and kind
it's not really unique, taxi drivers rarely take any belongings they find in a taxi. if left unclaimed they take them to the taxi rank. it's actually other passengers who keep stuff they find in a taxi for themselves.
How did he call you when your phone was with him?🤔
Sitting in the front is stressful unless if your Taxi math is on point😂😂 I always avoid sitting in the the front rather wait for the next taxi to fill up or ask to change with someone if in a hurry😂😂😂
That’s free labor🤣
@@TheDemouchetsREACTmy taxi math is on point so I don’t mind sitting in front, but once I had R20/$2 extra money after giving the driver his money so I ask , who is missing change in vernacular( meaning the local language) , turns out the person who was missing change was Congolese and only speaks English( and French ) so when he got off he asked about the change , he didn’t understand me every time I asked 😂. Taxi driver told me to just put it there someone had headsets on they will ask for it. 😂😂😂. Been living in China now but I miss taxi moments 😂
Oooh you were ready for the challenge. 😂 I prefer to enjoy my car rides. This sounds like pressure if they give incorrect fees.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT lol , it is a responsibility rather but as you pay on the way , you don’t want your driver to be counting money while driving, it is however an affordable way to travel and interesting things always happen in a taxi 😂,otherwise you can get a mini taxi or Uber and not worry about that.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT it’s not free labor , it’s community service
Last year I forgot my gym bag in the taxi while going to work. I was so stressed but after hours I went back to the taxi rank. The queue marshals investigated which taxi I got on that morning using their boards. They called the driver and I was able to get my bag back. Shame let me tell you those men were very kind and understanding towards me and reassured me that I'll get all my stuff back. I was happy.
car hopping simply means the new taxi is going towards that route so they transfer you overlay like on planes🤣pretty smart
We would be so confused getting kicked out in the middle of a ride.😂
What's crazy we trust taxi drivers with our lives 😂😂😂😂😂
Re tla etsa jwang 😂
Hey family, absolutely loved the video, the "never speak English" part is because most taxi drivers are from the villages and they regard English as the language for the "Elite" however nowadays they understand since we have a lot of foreigners amongst us. You just have to say a prayer before boarding a taxi and when you reach your destination safely "praise the lord" 🙏🏽😂
This dude is funny. And the accent is sending me 😂😂😂😂
We agree! We love humor and education.
Lol he is a funny guy but don’t worry most tourists and a lot of middle class uses Uber ,but it would be a great experience i tell u.I remember when I got my first job I used public taxis and the gossip in there was fire there was drama almost on a daily 😂😂😂😂😂I miss those days
I’d want to ride just for the conversations😂
I loved the gossip too. Sometimes you laugh the whole trip
I'm a white South African women and used the taxis every day while I was studying in Cape Town. It was super stressful at first. But I found that they are super understanding if you are of a different culture (or foreigner) and dont understand how the taxis operate. For the most part, my experience was possitive. Except for one day... usually I was the only white person in the taxi but that particular day there was another white women. The taxi driver accused her of not paying him and she kept arguing with him saying that she did pay... eventually they parked the taxi in the middle of the main road and pulled her out by her hair 😂 The whole time she kept saying that she did pay (even while she was lying in the middle of the road she kept screaming "I did pay"). I'm sitting in the back thinking "lady, just fkn pay them again" 😂 I was scared they would think we are related and that I'd get pulled out by my hair too 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I like your story
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
This is so funny😂😂😂😂
I once had a pleasant experience, I was sitting in front...obviously I became an accountant by default. After finishing counting the monies I gave the driver his cash...to my surprise he said I should keep the coins & buy myself sweets😅 I was like yaaay I got paid😅💃🏾
Lucky you 🍀
Best advice for a tourist in Africa just don't use public transport unless you are with a local.
You cannot use car seats in a taxi or matatu where I am from 😂😂
Many tourists use Gautrain and is a public transport, no problems there.
@@jabulanithema1467 exactly. and many of the problems we complain about today were actually started by us the passengers. for example, being lazy to walk a few meters, we were the first ones to ask the drivers to drop us off anywhere on the road, but today we complain about taxis stopping anywhere.
You can use Gautrain, Uber, Bolt
Don't do ever dare sit in the front seat because you are going to collect the money. Should anything go wrong, you take the blame. Sometimes you will pay extra if the money is short. Awesome video Fam 😂😂😂
Free labor and we have to pay extra? No thanks.🤣
@@TheDemouchetsREACT Lol that's how it goes. Another thing is that when people come with notes like R200 and R100 etc and there is no change they demand it from you. I always shy away from the front seat unless are getting late and it's the last seat. 🤣
Chillleee I’m stressed out just by reading. 😂
@@TheDemouchetsREACT I understand, we got used to it though. If I sit in the front seat by any chance I make sure that I take out the calculator ion my phone to count the money. 🤣🤣🤣
I am subscribed to this guy and he always makes my day.... Very funny guy but everything he said is TRUE
Who is this guy I want to watch more of his videos?
Troy Shepherds
Thanks
'Lifelong' contract is an exaggeration. But contract until everyone has paid and received change -- Yes! I do not mind sitting in front if the fare is R10, R15, R20
thers places where its R13.50.. just to stress you out lol
@@mphathi21 I NEVER sit in front with those. Especially when they expect Mlungu to be good at maths
Our taxis dont have seat belts 🙈
This is what I came to point out. What are seat belts, how do you spell that in a taxi rank?🤣
😂😂
😂don’t lie kzn taxis are mostly have seatbelts it’s just taboo to use them
Lol they do have seat belts but hardly anybody ever uses them
Most of this applies to Johannesburg.
In CPT we don't use hand signs or say stuff like "Sho't Left" etc.
Also, the drivers are actually a little more accountable since most customers have direct contact with the taxi associations CATA, CODETA etc.
There are female taxi drivers in the Western Cape.
I've personally been driven by more than one, in 2 different regions of the western Cape, George Central and Cape Town Killarney Gardens.
We also have taxi signs ko Vaal
Yeah hand signals are not a thing here and female drives are not always common but exist. But all else fair advice 🤣🤣🤣. If you want the taxi experience go with a local or talk to the taxi driver prior to getting in so that he knows you don’t know how things work.
Please watch Mansa Mayne taking a taxi for the 1st time, you'll thoroughly enjoy that 😜😅
Uh, I'm heading there somar. Didn't know he came through haven't watched in a while
speaking from experience, when you seat in the front with the taxi driver automatically you are the que marshall
No one uses seatbelts in a taxi😅
Not even the driver😂😂
Ain't no space or isofix points for car seats also😂
Not only in SA in most African countries this happens, rarely foreigners use this they just go for Uber
Zim has Windys( driver’s assistant /cashier)
@@slindsayharmon1086KZN and some parts of Eastern Cape also have them.
@@pakiethoko makes it easier for riders & tourists unfamiliar with the system! It’s been 25 yrs since I’ve been in one!!
Number 16 is cap🤣🧢i lost my wallet once with my cards, licence and everything in it, i called the 'Rank Manager' and the following day i got my wallet untouched. Drivers or conductor (door operators) will usually keep your things safe or give them to Rank Managers, and should you come looking for it you'll get it. If you don't, there's a 80% chance a passanger took your things.
🇿🇦💓😂😂😂Those guys are wired differently but some of his points were far reaching, especially the cell phone point and counting money. If your phone is found by the driver you're likely to get it back and you only count money for the duration of your trip and not the whole day, but for the most part he's telling the truth. Thanks for the reaction 🇿🇦💓#DEMOUCHETS REACT
4:24, all taxi drivers are the same. They run the streets of SA.
As for "otla bona mmao" 😭😂
And also the sitting on the engine thing, didn't we all experience this at some point in our lives?😂 cause back in primary school my then transport driver (children's transport) would fit 20+ kids in a caravan and we'd sit on the engines ( ko bench'eng) and in the boot sometimes the boot lid would open on our way to school kore yhoo😂it was scary then funny now
And the makeshift seats on the busy days, can't remember what they are called😭
Totally normal to see the guardjie hanging from the back/sitting in the boot😂😂😂
Some taxi drivers are kind, especially when they notice that you're respectful.
Fam you still have to pay even though you are working for him counting the money. 😂
Hahaha yes, I think I will allow my hubby to have the ‘taxi experience’ on his own as well. This was so funny:)
They’re the adventurers anyway.😂
The “VOETSEK” resonated in my soul
Excellent video this a good one! Me as a American when I do take a South African Taxi in Johannesburg I always have my South African lady with me as a translator... I never sit in the front...never sit in the middle get a window seat...cause the driver and the person next to you may understand English but can't or dont respond in English its rough at times but I'm used to it now
The taxis have been improved greatly these days. They are locally made by Toyota and almost in all cases they are road worthy and modern. However, taxis are mostly used by people who stay in townships who do not have cars. In the suburbs people either drive their own cars or use Uber. I don't see you guys taking these kind of taxis when visiting SA. So I would say only people needing this form of transport use it, since it is extremely available and covers areas that are not served with busses. They are the back bone of transport for commuters, there is a taxi for every route. They also cover long distances, I would think that the long distance taxis are the ones where you are likely to wait for long, before it fills up. Old taxis have largely been removed from the roads and the traffic officers are always on the look out and inspecting them for road worthiness.
Texi never wait for 2 hours, if it takes long to fill up it will take other passengers along the way to your destination, so it can't even take an hour, yeah maybe 30 minutes if it takes longer then that it takes off
Yeah local taxis do that but if you going on a long trip you'll wait 2 hours and in some instances even more so he wasn't necessary wrong for saying that
For long distances it does happen. But for local trips it doesn't
When he said, on number 18 he ment to say " You'd see your mother " 😅
🤣🤣 that lifetime contract is an exaggeration. But I regretted it one time... God I still feel embarrassed 4 years later
I once left my package in a taxi from Galleria mall (Toti) to town ( Durban) I immediately went to the rank Manger, explained what happened. He called the driver who was already left for another load. I was so fortunate cos the driver kept my package but I had to wait for 3hrs for him to come back from the mall with his load and I got my stuff.
Guys don't even try to board a taxi in SA we understand and don't usually have a choice, no one arrives home smiling from a taxi we all leave the taxi we a story to tell. It's a bad attitude of drivers mixed with some uncomfortable seats and some kind of odours found in a military hospital.
I'm guessing you're from jozi
Not always like that in EC, but I once had the most horrible experience in Jozi
bull dust, ya'll are exaggerating to the core.
@@madee764 Hope you realize peoples' experiences are not the same and are influenced by many factors.
@@naledivimbani of course and was actually replying to the initial comment which says "no one arrives home smiling from a taxi" . Taxis are like any other thing we have in the country, public hospitals, police stations, home affairs etc. you can get the good, the bad and the ugly. not just the Ugly like the initial comment wants it to seem.
You guys im really happy that you are learning before you come to South Africa atleast now you now what everything means so you dont get scared or offended !you will be ok !we do behave like animals in the zoo but we are happy sweet caring people we welcome everyone !if you speak English we all know you are not South African then anyone will try help you ❤
😂😂I'm a Zimbabwean. Have never been to South Africa once but I know the number one taxi tip Zimbabweans tell each other is:
Never sit in front 😂
The last thing you want is to be doing mental acrobatics, trying to calculate everyone's change.
My grandmother was the first taxi driver in Kwamashu in Durban and she is 89years old today.
Did you mean the first female taxi driver
1. I always avoid the passenger seat because my financial skills disappear when I sit there.
2. I had to learn IsiZulu just to communicate with JHB Taxi drivers because when I first got here, I'd speak my home language and they'd just ignore me.🤣
3. Finding the engine vacant is a privilege I am not always afforded😅
That was the other part of it but the other part if you are going on holiday as a large family, using family cars and a taxi, don't be suprised when all the children even babies crying for the long distance taxi ride and leave mom or dad in a posh car to and from vacation. No matter the hours on the road they will be awake and having fun all the way. The small cars end up laggage transporters and for old family members😂. The long distance ones are usually well maintained, comfortable and drivers are usually excellent Djs. As an optional curtacy you share your meals and book an extra room for your driver, otherwise they sleep on the cars, they don't ask, it's just curtacy.
I can only imagine the taxi driver’s headache with all the children.😂 We like our children to experience what we enjoy.
In Joburg the people are rude in Durban KZN you can speak English to the taxi driver no smoking allowed though but in predominantly Indian areas they smoke in the taxis
Hand signs make things so much easier. When you have multiple taxis coming down the road. You just sign and the relevant taxi stops.
Avoid front seat😂😂😂
Will do, bro!😂
Currently in a taxi laughing my ass off.
Bro hit the nail on the head with this one😂😂😂
Am watching this reaction in a taxi from Gateway mall .... This guy is a on point .. he right
As a South African myself agree with this guy 💯 percent CORRECT
Don't and believe me DO NOT 🚫 SIT ON THE FRONT SIT by all means necessary... be rest assured.
Mostly when they change taxis its because of different routes, like others passengers use bree streeet and other passengers are going to MTN rank,,,..it depends on routes passengers are going.
I guess the language thing mostly applies to Joburg. Most of the taxi drivers I've seen in Cape Town are coloureds, so English or Afrikaans will get you by.
The presenter is mostly speaking "tongue in cheek" so please don't stress about hopping onto a minibus taxi.
The minibus taxi is the lifeblood of transportation for millions of South Africans.
❤ from CPT, SA
It's all of them. ALL OF!!
In Namibia if you get in a long distance mini bus all passengers names are written in the book before departure and thats when you pay also to the guys who write the name and collect money ,and once you drive there is always the assistant driver who open the door a if someone get out or someone get in
That also happens in South Africa, long distances
If you planning a trip take Uber or hire private tourist shuttle company to drive you around please. There are different modes of transportation in SA we have a variety so pick the one that will help you to navigate your way around the country.
I'd suggest you don't use these types of taxis while in SA. Even the locals don't prefer them, we use them because they are convenient, you can catch them anywhere and they are much cheaper than uber. As for safety and comfort .... forget about that🤣🤣
I like this guy's content 😂😂
I think every South African has an experience of sitting in that engine. Its burn the shit outa ya ass😅😂
In Namibia mini busses are used for long distances ,,,,around the town we use sedans and that's what we call taxis and for some long distances they also use 7 seaters especially not so far distances
7 sitters are mostly used for distances which are less than 400km or so
LOI HE IS REALLY FUNNY THOUGH AND IT I AM A TEXI DRIVER MYSELF🤣🤣
The hyperbole on some of the points he mentions though. But ngl for the moat parts it's true🤣😭
And be careful not to fight with texi drivers you might end up dead, just apologize even if his wrong don't go violence, specialy in Durban and cape town
Seems like an amazing experience…? I wish I saw it that way too
Taking taxis all my life. He speaks the truth. Just doesn't explain things fully but good enough. There are female taxi drivers btw. I know taxi drivers to protest by driving side by side across the freeway at 10km per hour during morning rush hour. And thousands of people will follow quietly behind without saying anything. Even druglords think twice before messing with taxi bosses. 'Taxi violence' is areal and common term here. Great video. Keep it real
Rule number 1 SA taxi never sit in front 📢📢📢 I learnt the hard way
I ain't sure if SA Taxi drivers know how to use traffic lights or they just ignore them on purpose. Hilarious & dangerous right!? 🤣🤣
taxis are mostly owned and driven by Zulu people and we are naturally bipolar 😂😂
Bathong, Andile you're perpetuating a stereotype🤦🏽♀️. So according to you, the "Zulus" are in every province?
thats why he said "mostly".
Really😂😂😂?
Dude you killing me!!😅😂😅
Here in EC it's Xhosas but behavior is almost the same. It's like they receive special training. There's a lot of cool ones though.
😂😂😂 he was on point mostly, but he was also exaggerating alot
Normally tourists will have a private cab and not travel with the locals...
I don't know if your friend will get the experience but definitely recommend it
Y'all should come to South Africa and experience it your self 😂😂😂
Lol! Like the part "otla bona mao"😂😂😂
Also the English part. Never speak English 😅😅😅
The Ubers here in Cape Town don't seem to mind you sitting in front. I only sat at the back when Covid restrictions were in full swing.
Many of the drivers also don't have passenger permits, so to avoid getting pulled over by cops and having their cars impounded, they'd rather have you sitting in front so it's not as obvious that they're an Uber.
There's no seatbelts 😂
Children will sit on your lap
Somethings are jokes you don’t have to wait for hours unless it’s long distance in most cases not in cities
Our taxis have numbers this side so at least we are saved from using fingers to symbolise locations😂
If you come to East London, Eastern Cape, I will take you on a taxi ride experience
A bit of exaggeration but you'll be fine... Always ask, always talk to people.. Thats it. Funny video though
This is 100% true for Uganda
THEY ALL LIKE THAT
Yes i leave in a rural village in South Africa and there is a taxi rank !honest to God that taxi will not leave the rank until is full whether is 4 hours wait its so frustrating !😈😈
Soooo true 😂😂😂😂
Interestingly we in Cape Town dont do the hand signals
We look at the destination that's pasted on the windscreen and our index fingers does the rest of the work.
Taxies that take school learners to school (specifically high school learners) can hold a capacity of up to 50 learners in and 14-15 seater taxi😂😂. I mean some even come out of the boot (trunk)🤣🤣😭
he is 100% correct
Arguably the best drivers on the road. Taxi drivers
Taxi drivers dont throw hands they beat the shii outta you😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂The taxi ingcwele😅😅😅
The engine comment, i experienced it first hand and my zibunu were on fire
Yal made me laugh when you did the whole seat belt thing LOL there are no seat belts in a taxi man lol yal are funny!!! hahahahahahaha
The part about sitting in the front seat and signing a lifelong contract was said "tongue in cheek".
However, you will be expected/asked to collect the fares and to give change, but just for the trip.
From an ex minibus taxi driver in CPT
❤❤❤❤
LMAO! So, very much Jamaican taxi or minibus
😂my boy said Othla bouna ommao😂
You'll definetly arrive on time😂
Same here in Zimbabwe except Zimbabwe taxis have conductors who count the money
Same in SA in Cape Town etc, but not in Joburg for some reason.
but taxi ranks do have lost and found room...if you lost your valuable item in the taxi you can go to the taxi rank and ask for it.
2:31 lol you still gotta pay, he makes you his cashier and you still gotta pay him.
❤❤❤
This video is funny but cool 😂😂😂
Onething though, you will have options, minibus taxis are not the only option, we have buses, we have trains, we have ubers, we have bolt, we have metered taxis and you can also rent a car or buy your own car, why allow yourself to be bothered by minibus taxis, only those who have no choice or cant afford or choose to save money, can choose a minibus taxi, it is not the only option
Most Americans look like northern Africans. You guys would blend in South Africa well yal look like one of us.
