I think I can see my Nigerian mum while growing up in this character. This is typical African/Nigerian Mum behaviour. The joy of it is that when we grow up, we love our Mum like anything. Hardly will you see a Nigerian man that does not love his mum. But growing up was like hell.
As for me, I fear my mum more than God. She was a physical 'god' to me while I was a teenager. Too strict and disciplinarian par excellence. My Dad was the quiet easy going father. But today, I'm very grateful to God for my mum. She will be 80 this year. I love you, Mum.

I love our African mothers so much and we must remember also one of the main reasons an African mother is strict with her children. You see when a girl is getting married, I am sure the same goes for most African countries is that where I come from you are given lessons about your soon to be new life as a wife then hopefully a new mother. They will tell you that you are primarily responsible for the running of your home, so if the children go astray, society will first blame the mother and not the father. Especially if the girl gets pregnant while she is still at home and in school. When I was growing up my mother was strict and she would say to us when you misbehave, everybody will blame me, is that what you want?? Where everyone is pointing at me because you did not listen to me. So I always had that in my mind, I did not want our mother being mocked as a result of our being naughty.. I am so thankful to God for the mother he gave me and my siblings. None of us ever got pregnant or slept around until it was time.
