🤣🤣🤣In Grade 11 I once got in trouble for telling my History teacher I know how to read because he kept reading the same lines from the book after I had repeatedly told him I don't understand, he took me to the principals office when I told he gets paid to explain and not just read, they called my mother because apparently I had an "attitude"...

Our principal and teachers complimented us.
Our school calendar is divided into 4 terms/quarters. We start in January, a week after the new year and go for recess somewhere late March, for only a week. Term 2 normally starts in April until June, then recess lasts for about 3 weeks/a month. Reopen in July, take recess in September for about a week (like in March), then reopen in October and close for festive somewhere in December. We used to close early December, like the 1st week. I don't know what changed but we've been closing around the 15th of December these past few years. Just outrageous! 😡

I loved my school uniform. Winter uniform was my absolute favourite because we could wear stockings and ties, summer uniform was so boring.
In terms of pregnancy, our school allowed girls to come to school but closer to 9 months the learner stayed at home and someone had to accompany them to school during exams, just in case there was a medical emergency the school wouldn’t be liable.
Nah. At my school the boys outfit looked lovely, long pants, long socks and jerseys and blazers with a tie.
The girls though.. it was the same as the summer uniform but with long socks. It’s like brah can we not feel cold on our knees? We legit had to make a partition to make girls long pants. We got it but it was a lot of work.

The boarding school l went to in Zimbabwe banned everything to make everyone uniform. No lotion, no radios, definitely no cellphones, no home clothing, no perfumes, no tuck, no fancy haircuts(all sexes), no make up.
We have school uniforms here as well (not in our current state).
I dont know what school he attended but in Cape Town pregnant pupils are encouraged to stay in school as long as possible
It's brutal in these schools. When the teachers say take it out, you will sit down there and TAKE IT OUT! In my school, if the girl's skirt was too short, they'd take a pair of scissors and undo your hem, no matter how long your hem is. Many will come to school looking like slay Queens and leave looking like my grandma. It didn't end there. if you wore the wrong school shoes (Because South African students wear school uniform until the last year of High School), If you had the wrong shoes in my school, They'd take them and give you some ugly looking school shoes from the 'lost and found' box. Wrong socks? They'd take them. We in the military here🤣🤣🤣

I went to a public school we had to chose 5 hairstyles for both girls and boys. We were taught english in our mother tongue 😂😂

Lol with the hair thing, I got locs in high school. The rules did say that you’re not allowed to start them while attending the school but you could keep them in if you had them before you started there. Lol when the one teacher came to try and reprimand me I just said “oh madam, you should have told me that you were willing to come to my house at 6am every morning to do my hair “. LOL I only said that because my white Afrikaans friend had just died her hair jet black from being a natural Barbie blonde who was standing right next to me, and this teacher said absolutely nothing to her. When the teacher walked away my friend was also confused as to why she was not reprimanded too😂

Pregnancy in SA's schools is not tolerated but learners do fall pregnant anyway. So the schools doesn't care whether u pass or not and they even glad when u not present at school

Sometimes in other schools (like at my older sisters school) you have to go to school in your casual clothes instead of your uniform if you’re pregnant because of the image of the school

Our school year starts in January actually. Our recent holidays were in June that last for 3 weeks and our summer holidays are in December for 3/4 weeks.
I remember in winter we would remove our shoes and balance our feet on the table stand

In my highschool, if you were pregnant, you can still come to school. In our matric year, we had a girl pregnant and she was lucky to be due in the June holidays so she could write her Prelims. However, if she was not lucky, the school makes a plan for them. I think with everything, it deoends on the school, the rules and the principal willing to make the choices.
There was an all girl's high school (won't say which) near my former high school that made girls wear civvies for the duration of their pregnancy. So you could still come, just not in uniform. A lot of "quiet girls" were found out that way I'm told...

Hey family! I'm in year 10 now in England which means we have started preparing for our GCSEs and picked our options! you get to pick three mine are: business, textiles and health and social care. This is my favourite part about our education system and today I got back from volunteering which I do every Saturday at my local charity shop getting experience for when I get my first job! We also do work experience in march next year in a field of your choice❤️
The boarding school I attended closed 7 times a year while other schools closed once per term which means 4 times a year. Every term had a mid-term break which meant that we closed briefly.
We always heard of year round schools, but didn’t know how the schedule was implemented.
Our school year starts in mid January and ends in the beginning of December. Because our summer season is from December to February.
Technically our "summer break" would from December until January.
We have four school periods called Term's from 1 to 4. Term1 is from mid January to end of March with a holiday break , returning to school from mid April to end of June as term 2 , followed by term three from mid July to end of September and term 4 from early October until early to mid December. School year ends with a new school year in mid January again.

Let's be honest though. Kids know exactly what the code of conduct wants and prohibits. Kids will deliberately do stuff to piss teachers off. Kids 🙄 And you WILL take off whatever the school doesn't want no matter how much money you spent on it because you know the rules. I will never understand people who can't follow simple instructions and refuse to cooperate. It's just wrong.
Exactly, there are school that everyone knows but people want to be impossible, if you can't follow the rules of that institution then why not go to another with rules you can follow?
As someone who matriculated last year. I’d like to dispute that. I knew my primary school code of conduct because it was super strict but when I went to high school I never read it. I only knew the typical things like no makeup, long nails, hair should be kept in order and so forth. It was just too long to read. Imagine reading something worth 3 pages😫 honestly I’d just sign it and make as if I read it. It’s the same as the terms and conditions you get on your phone. Let’s be honest who reads that? Anyway I’m proud to say I didn’t get in any trouble during my 12 year stay at school😀Not that I didn’t break any rules, just never got caught🤷🏾♀️

I never read the school code of conduct but i knew some of the rules and i simply followed them. For example we were not allowed to use hairpiece when doing hairstyles, cellphones were not allowed at school, school starts at 8h00 but grade 12 learners had to come an hour early because they attended morning lessons. Some rules were made by teachers for example submitting homework before 8h00, having a classroom cleaning time table, coming to school on Saturday or Sunday. The only place I would say I read a code of conduct was in varsity.

Facts about S.A schools
1.Kids without lunchbox from home get one from school for free every school day
2.Pregnant teens are allowed at school till they're due..after giving birth , they're allowed back to school
3.Seniors(Grade12) and some Juniors(Grade 11 &10) are given Tablets to help them study and schools have free data
3.Teachers are allocated assistant teachers
4. School is free ..no school fees even in Some of the multi racial schools aka "Private schools" if you go through right channels
5. Coporal punishment is abolished..a teacher found punishment a pupil can be either suspended or fired
6.at some rural areas and townships pupils get free transport to school and back home
7.seniors and juniors dont normally close..get go to school during school holidays so that they get help from subjects they struggle with ..it is called "SIP" aka Student Improvement Program..were they get breakfast and lunch even transport
Why should school children spend 2 days doing hair at the salon instead of doing homework or preparing for the week ahead. Parents spend R2k on their children's hairstyles and get them smart phones but claim poverty when it comes to paying fees.

Most schools are not free. There are ‘no fee schools’ that offer basic education without any ‘extras’ but even for most Government schools you will pay.

In public schools you can have your hair any way and style you prefer, however it must be neat and no unnatural colors. In private schools you can have braids, cornrows and other styles that are neat, you can't have larger Afros or some hairstyles with rainbow colors. He's exaggerating a bit on that one....

Well i understand what he is saying but personally i havent experienced this. I attending my schooling years in durban at a public school, so it was totally different from his experiences. For me personally there was no problem with school itself just the teachers and management. Not all teachers would be invested in your well being especially during covid period, there was no support structure for depression or grief. We would do distance learning ( not online) there would be some teachers who would make the initiative to come during weekends and sacrifice their time so that we could stand a better chance of understanding a certain topic. Generally teachers would push to finish the syllabus rather than make sure you understand a specific topic, not all learners adapt. For alot of kids english is not their first language even though they understand english there are still instances within certain subjects where our knowledge of english becomes difficult to retain information like studying for hamlet or other plays. This quickly puts some children at a disadvantage. Public schools focus more on academics rather than sports or other activities. This puts children at a disadvantage if academics isnt their strong suit because now that's the only thing they to their name. This is why parents send they kids to private schools to not only be involved academically but socially aswell to take part in sports and other clubs which you dont have in public schools. He is speaking from a point of view where he attended a private school.
I do not regret going to a public school. I made alot of friends and great memories at the end of the day we all meet each other at university regardless of where we went to school ❤
Thinking about my high school career makes me 😭💔. It was bad, even though it was one of the top 5 school in PE. Our horrid high school experience was highlighted when the Matric 2020 class protested outside the school for racism, discrimination, unfair treatment from teachers to pupils and the hashtag was trending on Facebook and then we witnessed how grown white folks were cyberbullying and gaslighting black children on the newspaper's Facebook page at the comment section. We had to defend those children as former pupils of the school on the online platforms. The pupils who organised the protest were suspended and went through disciplinary hearing. This is after the Department of Education said they'd intervene🙄. I just hope where ever those Matric 2020 pupils are, have healed and moved on from that heartbreaking experience.

I personally like school uniform and policies as I believe it preparing the kids for the professional world. I am 48 and want to freak out when I see the younger crowd rocking up in casual clothes in a corporate environment. If you look professional you look more serious, you are representing the company after all

We like it as well. Although we moved to a new state where school uniforms isn’t implemented, we still have a standard of dressing for our children.
Reminds me of Barbie's "Princess Charm School", where Barbie and her roomies found a rule that they could redesign the school uniform. Needless to say, they became a sensation. Someone shredded their uniform to sabotage them, and they turned the pieces into masterpieces.

In our days you could only do Benny and Betty hair style or you could dye your hair black or just leave it as it is provided that it is neat. Braids and other hair styles were prohibited. Pregnant girls were allowed to come to school and they would go give birth and still come back to school. We had girls who would rush home to breastfeed babies during lunch time and come back to the class. These days pregnant girls have to go to school with a guardian in case something happens, the person will sit outside and wait for them.I learned English in Sepedi for real but I taught myself through TV and Newspapers so I was always chosen to represent my schools both in primary and high schools for debates. I started primary school at 8:00 untill 15:30 and high school from 07:45 untill 16:30. Yes I wore uniform and school shoes, toughees and buccaneer to be exact. You would never dare wear heels to school here 😂. Uniform helps in that there are kids that come from poor families and they don't have enough regular clothes as it is. Imagine if they had to wear the same clothes to school as well. It is also used to identify which school the kids attend. When we see someone in uniform we can tell which school they attend. We never had school lockers, rural areas do not have them still today. We buy trunks, a lock and a key and leave it in our classes. You only take the books you need for homework when you go home and leave the trunk, you will take it home when we close schools in December. I have never experienced favoritisms in sports, we were all treated the same and you would earn your position. I didn't have a phone untill grade 10 and I was never allowed to go to school with it and my grandmother would confiscate it during exam times. We didn't have electricity untill I was in my first year of varsity. I did all my primary and high using candles and paraffin light. The guy is mostly speaking of schools in the cities precisely Model C schools. The schools in the rural and urban areas have different rules. Rural schools are still laid back and the kids still abide by the rules. Still, most of this things he is saying here, he is exaggerating.
Our students wear uniforms here (well.. not in our area, but definitely our home state). Sisi, we had to test the rules to make sure it was real. We started a trend, but everyone stuck with their regular shoes after that 😅.

Kids now get away with some staff because corporal punishment is illegal and a teacher could loose their job and be arrested if the parents choose to press charges but believe me, it worked with us. You wouldn't dare start anything you wouldn't finish 🤣. I honestly love uniform, it creates order.

Back in 1997 when i matriculated (12th Grade) we had only ONE kid in the Whole school who had a Cellphone and funnily enough he was also the naughtiest kid in School, before having a phone he would skip school a lot so his mom got him the phone just to call him during the day to have him give the phone to a teacher so that the teacher would confirm that he was not skipping school or a certain period.... Most of the things he said here is satire and over exaggerated... Main reason why pregnant teen girls are not allowed at school is to prevent bullying from other pupils especially other girls, depending on the school the girl will still be able to finish her year off by handing in tasks etc etc and if she is able to write exams or not even then if its final year end exam for Matric you do not even have to be at school to write an exam as long as you have a registered examination number then you can write all your exams on the exam date at either a police station or even at a church under supervision.... all Grade 12 pupils in South Africa gets registered to have an examination number in the beginning of the school year. A friend of mine dropped out of school 2 months before the final exam and started working on the mines but since he still had his exam number, he requested all his final exam papers delivered to his local police station and he wrote all his papers under police supervision and he even passed his matric year.

You got locked out of school for hair and uniform violations. These are very similar to the Caribbean, the school shoes!! Brown and Black shoes, black/blue/white socks. The bag pack!! Some village schools don't want huge Afros or long hair so they ask them to cut their hair short

When I started school they were so strict on uniform we had to wear specific underwear and had random uniform checks (including underwear). I didn't pay attention till I was sa'd @ 9 and the random check landed on me. I broke down when the teacher lifted my skirt in line to see if I had the right underwear on. A friend helped me to the bathroom and they called my parents in.

13:33 in Zim calculators were only used after you passed Form 4 (and damn…after A Level l couldn’t calculate by head no more…had to relearn that all over again). 😅

My teacher is the head of the grade right , and my zulu friend had her braided with her natural hair so she had to little fringes in the front and my teacher auctully pulled out a scissor and said 5 minutes to fix that

School shoes are part of the school uniform however, matric girls (grade 12/ senior year) most schools will allow hills but, must be black hills.
