I feel kind of odd in Arequipa (and Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico) because I walk so much and most people don't. Because of the poverty they certainly walk more than in rural/suburban USA. But if you think of the 10,000 steps per day guideliness to living more healthy (7000 is you're more relaxed about it), 10,000 steps is 5 miles. So I say, walking is good. Altitude just takes time to get used to depending on your current cardio condition. But I've lived in high altitude cities (Quito, Bogota, Medellín and now Arequipa). The altitude (even when I climbed a 15,000 ft mountain) does not bother me at all. You will be fine. Walk more and you will stay healthy and active WAY more years.

You're right, I think most people should aim for 10k steps a day average, but some people aren't quite in that condition yet. I think for someone traveling here for a week combined with the potential adjustment to the altitude it could have some impact and make the trip less enjoyable. However, I do agree with everything you are saying

That fresh meat life sounds fantastic!!! I live in Mexico City now and getting used to that walking in an elevated place life is serious and like you I'm from NYC...so I'm a walker but when I first moved here I had to take it slow. Thanks for these insider man on the ground tips - they do impact lifestyle if you don't know they are coming. I'm actually a channeling medium and psychic and I do feel that your channel is gonna GLOW up in less than 2 years as more Westerners seek to leave the West and has the collective awakens further. Keep posting:)
