Big thanks to my Patreons for lightning urns! ⚡⚱️

actually I'm a big dumb dumb and some wiki's do mention the edge damage, but not the direct hit radius. I noticed this while throwing urns at slugs in the swamp, water detection is pretty janky there I thought they almost coded the slugs to act like water... but nah.
It's okay, that just makes this extra useless as I sit here eating my chicken and rice without lightning.
It's okay. If it's not useless, I won't watch this video..
it just doubles the uselessness factor, grandson would be proud.
It's ok, Old Man. We all know it was Grandson's fault....
GYAS
human bodies are made of 60% water, hitting a person with a lightning urn does the same water spread effect as it would on water but it just has nowhere to spread to. Miyazaki is truly a genius of our generation.
That... actually sounds like it could be a thing.
But does that still apply to hollows? They're kinda... you know, husk-y.
@@zyriantel9601 depends on how hollow anatomy works I guess. If we ever go back to DS. Series I really want a hollow pathologist. Pathologists are the people who preform autopsy’s, for the people who don’t know.

Ah lightning urns. Like miracle builds in a bottle.
So there are very few of them and they are useless anyways?

I imagine they just wanted to reward a direct hit. The extra damage has to be urned.
A Lightning Urn a day keeps the old man away from making the miracle build.
This is pretty cool! I wish I had a build to take advantage of this.

I guess the real question is… how did they get so much lightning in one urn…?
And where is the miracle build old man.

What miraculous data! It's weird how they built this game.
Miraculous yes, but certainly not intelligent.
nice pun
I love how even though Elden Ring still has so much to dig into, Limit still feels compelled to teach us about the most obscure DS3 details.
And we'll be here for it

It was likely originally designed to continue arcing to new targets everytime it found another within it's range, as a form of *chain lightning* attack. Ie: everytime the expanding hitboxes struck a valid target then those targets would emitt more expanding hitboxes too, and further and further, to end up perhaps chaining together a long chained row of 8+ (maybe infinite?) enemies as long as the gap between any 2 was never too big.
But they must've ended up scrapping the mechanic.
RIP chain lightning
@@R1R1R2 that would have made the deacons so much fun
I doubt it'd be infinite, and thered probably be something to stop it arcing back to a previous target.
Otherwise infinite arcs would mean infinite damage.
Yeah it's a decently common game mechanic. Shame it was cut since it would have made dealing with groups of NPCs much easier
@@idiotbuster8662 It could check so that it can only damage the same enemy once, so while it would still hit all enemies in a cluster, it would only hit each of them once. I think that would be best

*NERVE AGENT*
The expanding smoke hitbox was reused for the vocano pots swarm pots and fly pot (yes the roped version has a different name for some reason) in elden ring.
My guess is that it's there to make it easier to land all more hits on a moving target
Also for some reason volcano pots deal fire damage but don't detonate powder kegs.
Miyazaki please explain.
My guess is it’s coded to spawn the balls any time it hits anything that isn’t terrain, and then it checks that what it hit has the arc property (like water or swamp) to determine if the balls move or not.
Technically it also arcs if you hit stuff like tables and chairs. But I had to cut it out.
I guess the Lightning urns we’re originally designed to take out cluster of enemies but was likely scrapped and never really focus too much into.🤔🐱
That sort of feature would more useful in Elden Ring.

Yeah I could see it as an "chain arcing" feature that got scrapped.
are you talking about miracle build?
The game is pretty much built on scrapped ideas
Lightning urns scale with faith! I wonder what kind of build they could be used in, then?
Strength build?

whoever the person behind this channel is, your vids never miss (no hit or miss pun by the way) and i like your old man avatar andhow you create him in every soulsgame is kinda funny, maybe some old man lore some day?
love your videos, incredible script and great editing to carry it. it's a testament to your craft that a TTS voice is enough to carry your words.

who else noticed Shrek in the background of 2:15
It's trully miraculous discovery you've made over here, Old Man!
Also, as it was told from the video, we are obviously should start building up our hopes for the next "whater properties" video!
Thank you for still making videos on the older games! Always interesting to see new stuff/details explored.
3:59 the aniticpation for what the joke was gonna be was great cuz it was funnier than i expected.
The 4:20 video length is the cherry on top
Is it a leftover thing from programming the water interaction (considering the identical damage and only lacking the hitboxes moving)
Or is it a small reward for landing the throw?
Considering this is From, we may never know
It's so shocking you keep finding new things! It's as if a bolt of inspiration hits you for every video! I love seeing the spark of creativity in every clip!

Now this is the content I subscribed for
Considering I probably never used a single lightning urn in all my 169 playthroughs I can confirm that this information is indeed, totally and utterly useless.
As always, Old Man-sensei provides exactly the kind of content that I come here for.

Thank You. Very good to know.
I love the fact that he put jerma's "gas" audio when throwing gas bombs
6 years later and it's still a miricale new stuff about how the game was built comes out.
Nice video length 👌
The most unnoticeable buff ever? You mean the DS3 Wolf Ring?
A new vid bout ds3 in a sea of elden ring videos is refreshing
The Ventrillo Harrasment reference was much appreciated. thank you.
Man these games are truly amazing nobody will ever actually discover everything in these games. So much attention to detail🙏👌👌 I wondered if you can chain players hitboxes who can deal damage to eachother and hit them all at once🤫
I've found something quite useless aswell Mr. OldMan. If you throw a Lightining Spear at the Firelink Shrine bonfire it makes a huge thunder effect. Try it out!
I can confirm I have no use for this information
Always used these on mid SL invasions instead of actual miracles. With 40 faith and a lightning/nat lightning blessed weapon they were the best spells and hit like a truck.
Jesus, was that a ventrilo harassment reference in 2022? You are a god, Limit
I LOVE IT
Maybe someone tried adding an attribute to lighting attacks where they can arc from enemy to enemy allowing you to create chains, but then gave up, or forgot, midway through and left it as is. Similar to that one illusory wall in Elden ring. Where instead of just putting a normal wall there, they raised the health of the illusory wall to an obscene amount and hoped no one would notice.
Thunderous applause for the video.
can it help miracle builds be more useful though
I love you for making me love DkS even more than I did 4 min and 20 sec ago. Also is this video a four twenty reference? Did I just lore hunt the secret juice of your explorations? 0o
Such short video it really is a lighting video by how fast it went by with a shocking fact. It's electrifying to see that there's something new to be discovered after conducting this meticulous search.
Really enjoying the small, angry man yells at trumpet player in New York City references
1:29 That is indeed a good question, one that I ask myself regularly
Limit Breakers could make a video about the smallest insignificant things and make it very entertaining through his editing.

The Jerma gas reference made this for me
That is fascinating for something that has zero practical applications and that I'll forget within the next few minutes and never think about again in my life.
these are always useless, but they also always make me happy
Thanks!
Nice, appreciated the tf2 and Jerma references
My brain processing the joke at 4:15 : Wait what? *five seconds later* Ooooh!!!

YEEAAHH !!
That was a really good video! You are doOoOoOoOo........wHeRe Is ThE mIrAcLe BuIlD oLd MaN...........ing a very good job!
Ordis, who let you out of the orbiter?
Would agree with the others that it's likely some variant of a chain mechanic that did not fully make it in. Would be interesting to see how this relates to other such weird interactions though...lightning on water, fire on oil, maybe even that weird wetness you could have in ds2 from the iron keep urns or healing pools. Hitboxes come dangerously close to being useful data, but if this has not been discovered yet, it likely has no practical application
The Shrek was amazing
I think its a trigger that detects collision with an entity, water perhaps is classified as such, and triggers the expansion, but normal enemies when hit directly do not cause the expansion of the secondary hitboxes like water does, so direct hits just have a slight bit of extra damage and a tiny bit of extra range as a result of this code being set up this way.
Did yo check is point blank Sunlight spear caused the same? i think i remember that the spear sweet spots generate a extra hitbox too
When i played ds3, i had noticed a little delay at the hits that the mobs took after i threw a bomb, and now i know what it was : )
spleeeesh
"You've urned this" is the most painful joke I've ever heard, I have to find ways to use it now.
