i bought some cheap watercolors in tubes to make a pallet
just like the arteza ones mine cracked after drying
i was really sad but after a while i found a hack that helped me a lot
if your watercolors crack after drying you can add some honey to them
i made many pallets this way and i never had a problem

4:50, I use white, and I wouldn’t call myself a beginner. I know I can’t really show any proof that I am not a beginner, but I’ve been doing art for about 4 years now (which, some could still say that is a beginner, I guess). And though I need to use the cheapest watercolor I can find, that doesn’t make me any less accomplished or unprofessional/a novice to watercolors. I like bold pastel colors and the white helps accomplish that. This kinda sounds like an attack/rant, I don’t mean that, but I think that others who use white shouldn’t be labeled as beginners or only using it for a smoky effect even if I’m the only one who believes this.
P.S.: I know teachers/professors ban white and other colors but I use it because it works the best with my style.

    • @darshanmahajan6495

True, I myself like to use white to portray smoky effects or sometimes even lighten the colour when just water doesn't do the trick. I have been working with watercolors for two years now. I guess you could call me a beginner but not because of the use of white.

I just purchased the Windsor & Newton Cotman 14 half pan set, and you can fit 9 additional half pans in the case if you purchase them individually from somewhere such as dickblick.com. 6 fit perfectly across where the brush is kept, and 3 can fit in the tiny water bowl. So now my 14 pan set is actually 23 pans and way cheaper than their other sets for more - with colors I actually want rather than what they standardized in their pricey sets. Give it a try, maybe you can squeeze more into your set and you didn't even know it.

The Windsor and newton watercolours are very good quality in general, but the price is such a bummer.. I have the big palette... but my savings really took a hit.. but they are really good! But I would choose the Arteza over Windsor and newton just because of the price.. but for me Windsor and newton have a better quality.. just putting it out there! (I also recommend the arteza watercolour Pens! They are absolutely amazing for travel because they are ready mixed watercolour in a pen and are brilliant for layering and you can mix colours and it comes with a water pen and AH I love them 😩) (( not sponsored 😂)) have a nice day xx

I'm super excited that this affordable brand has been getting good reviews. Great news for low-end-intermediates like myself :)
My new favorite thing to paint has been (besides my go-to skulls and floral) snakes and furred animals. I love giving a good watercolor blotchiness to a snake body and then going in and picking out scales with a thin brush or micron :)

I don’t really paint too often and there was one of their products I had my eye on, the 36 premium brush markers? They look good but I’ve ordered them and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but it’s smudgy and leaks through pages... not sure if it’s the paper I’m using but my parents spent a lot of money on it for my birthday and I’d love to be able to use them, would you be able to review them? I did a ton of work with the real brush pens and didn't have problems, but paper is super important. They behave the best on watercolor paper, and if you use them on mixed media paper, keep water handy to smooth the ink out. I haven't had problems with them bleeding because I've used thicker paper. So far I love them!

I'm so glad to hear about the issues that their tube paints have, I haven't tried them on my end but I'm also a big fan of putting together my own half pan sets from tube paints so it's good to know not to go that route should I ever pick up the arteza watercolors.

  • @ilahjarvis

Sounds like this is still a student grade watercolor set. No info on pigments? Lighfastness? True red, alizarin crimson or ultramarine blue? No way Jose. Also, while it sounds like a good thing that the colors didn't separate when you mixed them together, it sounds like there weren't any granulating colors. (ultramarine anyone?) Also tube paint that can't be dried and reused? That's some janky s--t.

    • @justacatwhocantype
      @justacatwhocantype 3 года назад +4

@@day6kz No, all watercolor can be reused after is has dried. The problem with some of the cheaper made tube paints though. like the Arteza ones, is that they become very crumbly after the dry. They can still be rewet and used, but you have to deal with a whole bunch of paint chips and crumps that you have to rewet, they don't stick nicely to the palette ina one blob like higher quality tube paints do, that's all. Once you get them all soaked and reactivated, you can paint with them just fine.

BUT after just this year entering the theatre technology and Design for costume design I was told all my renderings must be in watercolor. So much so that I actually haven’t painted an acrylic piece in a while due to lack of time and I just sold my own first watercolor piece! I'd say these are definitely a higher end student grade paint. And the palette could certainly be reused by the artist when they feel comfortable enough to move on to professional quality. It looks nice enough. :) Well done on this, I enjoyed your video.

I'm not sure if she has reviewed the arteza watercolor tube set, but I would love if she did a seperate video on that and talk about it. I really like them they are smooth and bright. I did know before purchasing them that they fell off. So right when I got a hold of them I got a tube and a pan, pouring about 1/3 of hunny in the pan and mixed it with the watercolor paint from the tube. I've heard that most bindings used for watercolor are hunny so I tried it with one tiny pan to try it out and not waste all of my paint if it didn't work out. I didn't expect it to work but it did, it looked like a normal watercolor pan and worked amazing. I don't know if there was a difference since I didn't really test it out by the tube itself. So now they don't fall off and are like normal watercolors, plus I am saving a bit of paint. I also love it because it has a white. I do not use it to lighten colors, it turns pastel and I feel like whites in general make things muddy if you mix it. Although I do use it as gauche in a way, the white is really opaque which makes things pastel. So I use that to my advantage and use it for tiny highlights. :)
