Normally all the good shows (besides the middle) all show upper middle class families with cushy jobs and money isnt a problem with their nice houses but Roseanne showed normal people who weren't all perfect and preppy it showed real people with real problems
This is 100% correct, and why the show was never the same after they won the lottery. Even the way the show was SHOT seemed cheap, as if they couldn't afford to have it be any slicker. What other sitcom of ANY era would have focused an entire episode on the power being shut off because of their inability to pay the bill??
I love that too! It's nice to watch a show that is somewhat relatable.
Malcolm in the middle is a great example of a sitcom like Roseanne. That’s what I love about these type of shows

Instead of winning the lottery, they should've jiust canceled the show because they jumped the shark like 20 times after that.
That was one of my favorites episodes where they won the lottery, and the only good one on the very last season.

I was appalled by Roseanne's portrayal of poor people. We were poor, instead of screaming like banshees, mom gardened and raised (and butchered) chickens, sewed school clothes, picked wild fruit in season. My dad built our house. Hunted and fished and foraged. A weekly trip to the library. Occasional side jobs.
I was HORRIFIED at this family.

Roseanne lived in the city, where the hell were they supposed to raise and butcher chickens? And they did show her sewing a few times. There's episode where Roseanne is working two jobs. They didn't scream because they were poor, they were just loud people, it's a freaking comedy show stop taking it so seriously.
