    Tip for manually changing the theme:
    (1) You need to have the "ventoy.json" in the "ventoy" folder under the root.
    (2) After that, you need to remove the initial "ventoy/" out of the theme location. It's already looking from "/ventoy".
    Otherwise, you're effectively pointing it to "ventoy/ventoy/themes/.../theme.txt", since it's already in "/ventoy" and you've included a second "ventoy/" in the directory location.
    Too Long, Too Confusing:
    Fix test for the custom modification at 7:56 :
    "
    {
    "theme": {
    "file": "themes/Vimix/theme.txt"
    }
    }

      @@kairitadano I think I made myself pretty clear, but to reiterate, Ventoy isn't compatible with all computers. It's another layer that can go wrong. Ventoy uses its own partition on the USB drive and not all computers can read it, as well as not all computers being able to load the bootloader menu properly, load the ISO files, etc. If a USB drive only has one installation on it, then there's no need for unique partitions, not need for bootloaders, and no problem reading from an pre-extracted ISO file.

    What a coincidence that I spent the afternoonc researching, creating and testing a Ventoy USB drive, and then you came out with this video which got recommended to me! I thought this was at least a year old already!
    And yes, it works like a charm. For multibooting there is also YUMI, but I had issues with that program when trying to have Hiren's Boot PE and the Windows 10 installer on the same drive.

    • @MikeAnn193
      @MikeAnn193 2 года назад

      I also used YUMI -- many times over a few _years,_ -- but I also had a baffling issue, though I can't swear it was due to YUMI. I just kept noticing that over time, the various Linux distros I'd put on my bootable drive would no longer boot after some period of time. It happened on several different flash drives and at least three different distros. What they all had in common were me, my computer, and YUMI. I could never figure that out but it sure was frustrating. Unfortunately I could also never get a response from the developer about it. That aside I was really impressed with the software. I also had Hiren's on the flash drive but not with Windows, so I can't speak to that. At least a year ago I discovered Ventoy and I'll probably give it a try soon.

After it will recognize USB thumb drives as a bootable option and allow you to boot. I'd love to hear about this is a video along with any other 3rd party programs that are out there. :)

      Normally you would just hit F12 or one of your F keys on the top row like F10 or F11 at power-on boot-up depending on your pc manufacturer, if it doesn't show a boot up screen and just enters windows you are probably in sleep mode, the pc must be powered off to see the boot-up logo, Dell is F12 to see a list of boot start options, this is not the same as entering your bios with F1 or F2. Note, you need to have the USB plugged in on this because if not it will not list it as an option in some cases. As an added note, if your bias has a password you can normally just search the internet for the password for your specific pc and manufacture if it is a name brand, if it is a pc built by a family owned business you will need to contact them for bios passwords if you didn't set it yourself, but if you aren't actually entering the bios you should not need the password.

Therefore, If anyone consider using other than USB Drive, you should pick external SSD Drive. You can use NVMe external but remember to stick the enclosure with fan to make it colder or buy the expensive one because the controller is the key, the cheaper enclosure usually has not good controller (easy to get hot). I've been using easy2boot for the same type of job. It allows me to do both UEFI (with some secure boot tricks but don't know the state of that as Microsoft has interfered with it on multiple occasions) and CSM/legacy type booting with many types of files and can do other things like pass options to have Windows installer install with your own keycode autoentered, preconfigure various settings, install most drivers by running either your official installers or third party tools, and apply some security updates before the machine is put online again.
    For any of the USB boot media options, you may want to consider faster USB flash drives if regularly using it as those Samsung ones have shown to be a bottleneck compared to other options available.
    These flash drives are not designed for this use. Depending how the media works that you boot from it, its use may be treated more like a hard drive which not only shows how bad drive performance is, it will likely lead to failure much earlier than expected. I went through a Samsung Extreme PRO USB 3.1 128GB and bought another + have a Patriot Magnum(?) 64GB which do work. An external hard drive (SSD best but magnetic beats some of the junk people buy for USB sticks on these tasks too) is better for both speed and reliability at these tasks. While more expensive, I went with an IODD mini 256GB myself which I did setup with easy2boot (partitioned to 128GB for boot compatibility with some systems) though most times I want to boot content from it, I let the drive emulate a DVD drive and/or hard drive as needed. That gets me away from hassles involved in supporting UEFI+legacy/CSM booting, lets secure boot capable media have that property carry through, and can make the media write protected or remove the visibility of its main storage entirely so the computer connected to it can have tools ran from it without risk of infection, deletion, improper eject, etc.

      @@steve6375 I didn't test as many drives as you but yes those Samsung drives a few coworkers used in the past based on price, availability, and convenience didn't stack up at all for performance of moving big files, let alone the small transfers that booting caused. I lost that job when the business I worked for closed so my need for such stuff changed and am now back to mostly personal use where I am learning more about BSD stuff by choice. Maybe I'll work with developers there to get FreeBSD multipurpose boot media support issues improved. Thanks again for the great work you've done sharing in this area steve6375.

    RMPrepUSB is much more stable on variety of computers, but at the cost of being a lot more complicated with its own quirks. Served me good for over 8 years with Win Vista/7/8/8.1/10 installations (even supports Win XP). 👌 Glad to see Ventoy is getting better & better. 👍 BTW, USB stick with a physical read-only switch is a must when dealing with ransomware/virus infected machines. Wonder why all major manufacturers moved away from offering such solutions?

    • @cyberp0et

      I am also currently using Yumi, and it's been a while since I've heard about Ventoy and want to test it
      It seems so much better than Yumi.
      With Yumi ot takes quite a while to make a bootable ISO.

    • @MikeAnn193
      @MikeAnn193 2 года назад

      I used YUMI quite a few times too. Have any of you ever experienced one of the OS's or utilities on your bootable drive suddenly fails to boot? That happened to me with several different Linux distros on several different flash drives. They'd work fine at first, and I'd boot in the live environment dozens of times, then one day it would simply fail to boot. This happened specifically to at least two different versions of Linux Mint, but also to several other distros. The only thing I could figure out that they all had in common was YUMI. I've only met one other person -- in these comments, in fact -- who has mentioned that issue! If it weren't for that, I'd have been pleased with the software. I found it to be intuitive and compatible with lots of utilities and operating systems. I'm going to try Ventoy next, as I heard of it a year or more ago and it sounded even easier.

  • @moamenabdelkawy5718

    Ventoy is amazing but still have few limitations. For me I couldn't use it with Tails (probably a security feature) and Zorin (no idea why). Still this is the ultimate distro hopping tool.

      I tried Zorin educational with YUMI and did not work. Then I realized it was the FAT32 limitation to 4Gb file size. If the ISO is larger than 4Gb, try formatting the Ventoy drive with NTFS or exFat.
      You can also try YUMI.

    Hi Joe: quick question: I'd like to include my Windows Recovery drive but it's burned to a USB drive. Is there a simple way to convert that to a bootable ISO image for storage along side the other ISOs? Or, is there an option to write the Window Recovery image to an ISO, directly?

    • @marcc5768
      @marcc5768 3 года назад +2

      Not sure that will work. Windows Recovery likes to be on it's own USB drive without anything else. I don't use Windows Recovery myself. I use Macrium Reflect to image my C drive. I make an image of my C drive every couple weeks. You could try making a Windows Recovery boot DVD and see if that might create an ISO file. I haven't tested that..since I use Macrium.
