strong woman indeed. also, her love and desire to help her girlfriend gave her the strength and the will to go on. she wasn’t even thinking about her own injuries just focused on getting help for her lover. love is a very powerful force.
The human body is completely amazing in the amount of damage it can sustain and still continue to operate. She was truly meant to take down this monster
That's an amazing comment. ✨👌✨✌️
Yes indeed, remember the story of the one guy who was shot in the head…out of habit, he left a trail of blood thru out his morning routine…in front of the mirror but didn’t see his head shot, making coffee, getting the morning paper, etc…that’s the only way they could answer why his blood was everywhere 😳😬

@@MrsRobinson0741yes!!!! Also the case where a woman walked to find help while holding with hand across her stomach to hold in her organs and the other hand to hold her head up because her throat was cut!!!! She was found by a veterinarian who helped her while they waited something crazy like an hour for paramedics to reach them. She survived!!!!! It’s amazing!!!!
Then you hear of others bleeding to death from a paper cut!!! Not really , but you know what I mean.
@@MrsRobinson0741Or the case of Allison Botha! She was stabbed dozens of times, disembowled, and nearly decapitated, yet somehow survived after being attacked by two men in South Africa. She had to hold her head up with her hands because her throat and neck muscles were so badly damaged. That's one of those cases where the victims will to live, and will to see their would-be murderer(s) punished, goes beyond what seems possible for a human body to survive. On one hand, our bodies seem so fragile, but on the other, we hear of these extraordinary cases that defy all medical knowledge. Anyway, I'm hours late to this thread, but if anyone wants another example of a truly heroic will to survive, you can't go wrong with researching Ms. Botha.
The audacity of that murderer's lawyer's conduct was just as infuriating as the crime itself. Couldn't imagine the heartbreak and horror that poor girl went through.
Lawyers don't have to compromise themselves. They don't have to defend perverts and murderers. They do it by choice. How they can stand up there and brow beat victims is despicable in my opinion. I have no respect for that.
@@diancourtright8036I second this!
@diancourtright8036 that how our justice system works, whether you like it or not everyone has the right to legal counsel, now don't get me wrong...I question anyone who is willing to defend clearly guilty people like the useless guy in the story and try to get their sentences lessened but this is how society works unfortunately.
And that's why lawyers are scum.
@@donnell.okaforthere's plenty of crime to go around defending... They would be far from starving... Especially here in America, they most definitely wouldn't need to defend touchers or brutal sadistic murderers and still put plenty of food on the table...
Just a heads up for anyone who’s ever injured - in many US states, if law-enforcement brings you to the hospital at their initiation, the state will cover the cost. Most states also have victim reimbursement funds that can help cover anything from a house fire to being harmed by a person.
Thank you, for the 411. I appreciate you for that.🌹
Steven Roy Carr looks like a homosexual of that day, and I suspect his jealously of those two young women being able to live out their lives freely and his self-hatred from always pretending to hate homosexuals is what lead to him attacking them.
From how many other cases where the facts beared this out, I do suspect that to be the truth. I also suspect he was a monstrous individual to begin with and that was 90% of the reason. The other reasons are likely only 10%, and why he chose them.
It's sad when people in society won't treat humans as humans regardless of their innocent beliefs and innocent lifestyles.
People say they hope certain guys are raped in prison, but for him I doubt they would.. because he surely would have liked it.

I am a gay male born in 1972 in Montana. A very scary time and place to be gay. A childhood of fear and constant bullying. By the age of 17 I had attempted suicide three times. Nearly succeeding the third time. Today I have social anxiety, PTSD and chronic depression. Stemming from how I was treated while growing up. Kids and even adults can be so cruel…. and to be at the receiving end of that cruelty is terrifying. I can’t express just how alone and hopeless I felt during those years of my life. Just looking at a school or being in one causes me to have a panic attack. Watching this brought it all back. When the picture of the killer’s lawyer was shown (while describing how he was interrogating the victim about her relationship and lifestyle) I felt I was looking at one of my homophobic teachers. Like looking satan in the eyes while he is smirking at you. 😨 My heart hurts for what these two ladies had to endure. It was such a scary time to be gay. I wished so badly that I could change who I was so I could be “normal”. So my dad (a football star from San Diego State University) would love me and be proud of me. So I could experience going to school without being heckled and whipped into corners with towels in gym class. Or even just to have friends. Attending school from kindergarten to 12th grade with no friends while trying to come to terms with how I was being treated was a living nightmare. I truly hope there might be a few people that watch this video and realize the fear, hate and trauma that those of us who are gay had to endure. 😔😢

You should have a focus on security anyway. For yourself or your loved ones straight or gay or whatever. For your pets, neighbors and all. Now for the LGBTQ people it is getting more dangerous. That whole rainbow campaign is having a polarizing effect and is therefore a failure. Research bears this out no matter what the flag wavers tell you. LGBTQ people should not have the illusion that it is going to get safer by campaigning harder. Be careful.

I appreciate that. 🩷
I was just a kid, (born 1980) but there was a flamboyant kid in my class who based on how he acted very possibly ended up gay. he would be attacked often for a good month or two over it. We were kids we werent even sexual yet. I dont like much of what the left is doing with sexuality currently but obviously those bullies were wrong. I stopped them attacking him several times successfully and a few where I just got attacked worse than he did. We ended up friends for awhile after that. Sleepovers the whole thing. I liked rock type music though and he liked boy bands. eventually he just told me it wasnt working out lol. Im pretty sure I got dumped in a gay relationship before either of us had sexual thoughts.
Good . I agree. That’s why it shouldn’t be shoved down the throats of people who never asked.
@@PinePrince You are totally right. We all need to agree to disagree. And leave each other alone. Not everyone needs to accept those lifestyles, but neither side needs attacked for how they feel about it. Accept eachother as humans and leave eachother alone. Heck dont respect eachother if you dont want to. But leave eachother alone then go complain to friends.
Been that way since time began. Much can be blamed on bible thumpers and men. Men are extremely threatened by both genders being gay.

Wow. This is an invaluable, crucial lesson in queer history. Hearing things like the court wanted to normalize lesbianism and that cops had the opinion that everyone has a right to justice puts a welcome pin in a turning point on the way society was thinking and how this case helped reach the public. After all, all i had to pay was 20 bucks for the transport to the Hospital and a devise I had to put around my shoulder to keep it all together somehow.
Here's hoping things will get better for you guys. Thanks for the great video as always^^
Yeah it's ridiculous...I saw a video on here (police body cam) where a u.s veteran was parked in his truck on the side of the road. He was hysterical and on the phone with the suicide hotline. The police officer tried calming him down and told him that he's gonna call for ambulance to bring him the hospital for a mental health evaluation, and his first and only reply was "No I can't, I can't afford that!" The fact that our vets suffering from suicidal thoughts, have to worry about how they can't afford treatment that could save their lives is disgusting. 😢 And then the cop told him. "If I bring you in than the state pays."
And btw an ambulance ride to the hospital is over $400. Atleast that's what mine was on my bill, and I HAVE INSURANCE.

@Abdulahi Are you telling me that members of the LGBTQ community have more rights than straight white men in the US? This is an extremely ignorant take. The LGBTQ community has to continually fight to maintain a fraction of the rights that most people have. And there are people continually fighting to take those rights away. Comparing the US to a country that punishes homosexually with death does not mean the LGBTQ community is living the good life here.

@@thisisMONSTERSI've gotta say as a gay male I appreciate you and your work. When I become a fan of a new channel I always check out their LGBTQ+ content and listen for any hate or disdain in the narrators voice and or actions, and you've definitely proven to be on the right side. I ty for it all and look forward to listening to this although knowing it's going to break my heart. ✌️& ❤ oh, and ps, I refuse to support a channel where the narrator shows racism of any kind, and so that's why I'm sure that not only myself but many others enjoy your channel knowing you're not an ignorant racist. Sorry for the ramble.
@@thisisMONSTERSI'm sorry that this hits close to home for you, always heartbreaking.
It's Trumps fault! He is the reason for homophobia!
This is so tragic it hurts...and I am beyond disgusted at the defence lawyer. They really shouldn't be allowed to say and bring up such horrendous victim blaming points in a court of law.
It goes both ways
@@mypud4068
What exactly goes "both ways"?!
@greenemic the DA also uses tactics similar to the defense to paint a picture of someone that could totally be a lie. It's court, it may be morally disgusting yeah but it's not just defense lawyers that do stuff like that
It´s their job. You´ll be glad of it if you´re one day in court and in need of a lawyer.

Young man, would like you to know that your calm voice, choice of words and subject matter is what draws me to your channel. Thank you for your time and effort. Please continue your tireless work. Thank you.
Just started to watch, but I wanted to take the time to tell you: even in Germany both of your channels/shows are loved dearly :)
please keep on making those videos.
btw your voice is great!
So affected and heart broken by this story. As a lesbian I relate so hard to the fear of this sort of violence when I'm out and affectionate with my fiancee. People scare me. This stuff still happens. So tragic and unneccessary.
Stay strong, stay safe from the loonies out there
I’m not religious. A knew man I greatly respected, who was religious, but was never pushy about it. His daughter committed suicide a few years ago and I never heard any indication as to why. This bothered me greatly for years, because I thought if this truly good man, who was married to a kind women, whose daughter won awards for volunteering, and who was a better parent than me as I saw it at the time, could kill herself, how could my children or anyone be safe?
I found out recently she’d been sent to conversion therapy through their church. She had made a suicide attempt and was hospitalized for three days and tried again and succeeded within days of going back to her parents home. This is a religious town but I thought CONVERSION THERAPY? In the 2020s? here? This isn’t a tragic movie from 1985, how could this happen? How could HE allow his daughter to go there? I would have thought that this man would have outright rejected such a suggestion, religious or not, if I’d even been able to imagine such a situation occurring.
But at least I’m no longer confused as to how the daughter of the “perfect” family could be driven to that end. 😢
It’s just so tragic 💔 two people in love destroyed because of pure hate… shameful.
The creepy guy would have ruined it for me. How could they not have been paranoid.
Yeah I would not have felt safe camping that night, would have straight went home
Literally so tragic and even more tragic that the judge let the defense talk to the victim like that. Ugh lesbian relationships have nothing to do with men, it’s not for your pleasure, it’s not to tease you, it’s not for you to look at at all I hate men that think that way.
Amen to every word you just said. They’re also the type to ask, “well, so who’s the dude in the relationship?” Like hey you dull baboon; there isn’t a dude - that’s the entire point.
Preach.
Too right. I'm sick of pervy men using lesbians as sexual objects. They also don't know what no means either
As someone who is queer, I usually actively avoid watching true crime content when it is evident that the victim(s) or perpetrator(s) fall under the LGBT+ umbrella, not because I can't stomach these cases, but because the vast majority of true crime content creators are simply incapable of discussing those things as elements of one's identity without espousing the same blatant homophobia and transphobia that has been peddled and normalized for centuries, or even excluding these things from the narrative in cases where they are absolutely relevant. I really really appreciate the way you covered this crime, and the emphasis placed on Claudia and Rebecca and covering their relationship with the respect and dignity it deserves.
Agree, and it doesn't help when they either ignore or promote comments that are just blatantly anti-LGBT and saying the victim had their death coming. As a lesbian I am happy to see this channel is not like that at all.
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.
I cant imagine the twisted horrific vile fear and confusion these innocent hikers faced at the hands of a maniacal single man determined to snuff out the warm glow of the beautiful innocent love story they shared.
What a horrific experience for these girls. Very tragic. The monster looks like one too. Pleased he was caught
This story is absolutely heartbreaking. 😢
40:50 that was the best dig ever at the defense attorney 😂 bigtime kudos to This is Monsters
Thank you for telling this tragic story respectfully. It means a lot to a lot of people.
Just found this, well, saw a recommendation 😊 glad I did, 2 mins in and subbed, now I can binge watch all episodes. YaY, today is a good day ( how sad does my life sound right now?) 😊
As I started watching this I remembered that I had heard a radio program on npr about this story in the 90s. Claudia was talking about her book, Eight Bullets, about this experience. I had forgotten all about this story until now.
I know this story but did not know about the book! Will definitely look into it. Thanks for sharing
@@MultiMoo20As I recall from the radio show, Claudia was reading from the book and I remember that it was compelling. I am sure it would be a good book to read.
Love watching your channel, but now that i can put a face to the voice it's even better,i appreciate the new format/style....as ive at least never seen a video with you or any pictures and ect in other content, but maybe im wrong? Either way i myself really enjoy this style of video. 👍🏻🙌🏻👌🏻💯✔️ And thank you for all your hard work!! 👏🏻👌🏻
It's been like this for a while now. Honestly, though, I don't know why more channels are showing the narrator's face now. It's really not necessary.
@@LadyAstarionAncunin I kind of prefer the mystery of not knowing what the narrator looks like.
He’s so handsome!
Wow ! Most of the time when I see a composite sketch , I don’t think it looks like anyone , much less the guilty party. Not in this case!!!!! When the video switched from the sketch to the pic of Steven , I was shocked!!!!! It was spot on !!!!! Amazing!
Great work on the video as always.
This case was so heartbreaking. My sympathy to Rebecca’s loved ones. What a strong , amazing women Claudia is …. A true warrior!!!!
Humanity’s disregard and disrespect for fellow humans is devastating. As a POC, LGBTQ+, and a woman…I’m truly terrified to be on my own in this world. I’m past old enough but I’m so scared when I’m not in my own space. Even then, I’m never truly safe.
I'm in the exact same situation and I live alone. I take meds to help me not lock my doors multiple times.
This was also in the 80's keep that in mind. I know its still not perfect though.
Omg that's a total of +30 victim points

Giles, thank you so much for the way you delivered Rebecca and Claudia’s story. As a fellow lesbian, I truly appreciated you standing up for us and calling things out in the way that you did - humanizing us and our relationships. Unfortunately, I know of a case here in Texas that is all too similar to Claudia and Rebecca’s and that’s the story of Mollie Olgin & Kristene Chapa. I’ll leave it there because I’m a bit at a loss for words after this episode.
Good morning fellow monsterer's hope you all have a happy day
Thank you for featuring this compelling story.
Omg, this is a hard listen so far and i've seen every episode.
wow, i cant believe ive never heard this story. thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much Jiles for all of your hard work and dedication. The way you present and lay down the facts of these topics that can be lets say... "controversial" is truly unmatched. The respect to the victims and the oppression that is intertwined in cases such as these is something you don't see from any other creator. Much love as always
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
This monster was a homophobe, and yet he had a banana in his trousers while he was snooping on them... the man, and his lawyer, need to grow up and be responsible for their thoughts and actions. The republican party seems to be remarkably full of these kind of hypocritical creeps.
A lovely start to my week. Love your channel Jiles, from the UK.
The image of SWAT teams in full tactical gear swarming an unsuspecting Mennonite community must have been wild.
Love your work i always look forward to new uploads...i listen to somewhere sinister on Google podcasts, great stories, great work thank you for your thorough and detailed information
Jiles I've been watching your channel for a while now, and whilst I am *consistently* impressed with the high standards you set in covering *all* the cases you pick for the channel, I think you've really outdone yourself on this one - the tact and sincerity you handled such divisive topics with LITERALLY makes me want to stand up and give you a standing ovation. Thank you for an incredibly emotional, impactful, and heartfelt viewing.
When I see your stories come on I know these are going to be through and very well researched, and I will take the time out of my day to sit and listen to these. Unfortunately most of these are very tragic, but they are learning experience for people has me so amazed and I also love your other channel to you. Please keep doing what you do to spread the word to help people and thank you for the information on about the domestic violence hotline and also for the LGBTQ community info I went through domestic violence and it was horrible. I was almost killed by my first husband when I was 14. Yes, I said 14. My mother made me marry him when I was 14 he was 19.
So sorry you had to go through that at such a young ago 😞 I hope you are okay now and able to be happy. Horrible trauma.
Thank you Jiles, for giving these women’s story a voice. I hope Claudia is doing better today ❤
Another AMAZING story, and well said. Thank you for the hard wok on this on.
The absolute dread and sadness i felt when I heard Rebecca didn't survive :(
Yeah that was heartbreaking.
Ive been watching your channel for years . How are you getting even BETTER at disseminating information , not offending a single soul and add your sense of humor for added spice ?! Great , great , great video bud . Thank you
He stalked these woman and decided to ambush them regardless if he would of saw them being intimate or not he stalked and tried to murder them both. My heart goes out to Claudia such a huge loss physically and mentally prayers 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Even if the women were purposefully having explicit sex in front of him (with, for some reason, was done purposefully to provoke him) , it *still* does not justify murder. That lawyer was purely trying to paint the two as sexual deviants. should have never been allowed back in a courtroom
Hey Monsters 👋
Your stories are amazing man, one of the best yet 🔥
You say that as if the stories aren't real.
What a tough woman, first surviving and going for help, then testifying and being vilified by the defense. Most times the monster doesn’t look like one, I think this time he did.
I'm glad her judge was a better one. My heart goes out to her and all those who lost a beautiful soul that day. ❤
Best channel on RUclips by far! Keep up the good work. May I suggest Dean Corral for a story?
This is the first story you have told that made me cry. They were so in love and innocent. It's still such a scary, dangerous world for lgbt people.
Homosexual deaths are usually far more brutal than other deaths, however, homosexuals are far more likely to be killed by another homosexual than a hate crime. So they're extremely violent to each other. There's plenty of studies on this conducted by respected & credible forensic experts published in forensic medical journals.
I'm familiar with the case, but I found this very moving.
Thank you for highlighting the history of my community, especially in such a sensitive way. I’m so grateful that my favorite RUclipsr is such a great ally ❤️
Stay strong
Thank you for your sensitive and thorough coverage of this case. The world needs many more advocates like you.
