Your writing is getting so good! So much in the story reminds me of the street-punk scene in OC California in the last 80s and 90s. Squats, gratuitous drug use, “enchanted woods” spot, abandoned houses and the massive parties with bands, and that one guy who always takes it to an uncomfortable extreme. Also, there’s always a guy named doughnut and one named ghost, every town. I’ll count myself lucky the worst I experienced was the rotten cow head in the pit.
I’m American, always wanted to see Ireland! I lived in Japan and traveled all of Asia and Australia! I’m gonna look up your town on google maps to learn, if you any interest I live on gibson island maryland, you can look it up on there too, hope you have a good day!
Yep, accurate GenX description 💯 My Grandma used to call me a latchkey kid... (But it was due to my mom always avoiding her (mother.in.law) calls, so Grandma just assumed I was home alone 😂 Side Note: That ended once I asked my mom what a latchkey kid was. She asked where I heard it and I told her grandma called me that. She didn't avoid the calls anymore if I was home because I always answered.
There's a song called "Bad Party" by the Dead Milkmen off their Beelzebubba album (1988). I just remember it's a bloody hilarious song against Casso. Like these lyrics: "We're going to a bad party, 'cause Ricky Casso wants to drive..." 😂😂 Edit: Sadly, Ricky died of unaliving himself at 17 in 1984, not being able to serve time for the murder. RIP to the the victim, his family & friends 😢
What an interesting story... The intro with the knights alone... Never heard of it. What Ricky did was horrible without question! But when I think on his "father" who mistreated him so badly as a child, for me the question is: was there a monster that created a monster?? Very sad.
Ricky wasn't a monster. He wanted Dick to love him for who he was! Nope, Dick o located about himself and what everyone else thought! Fk Dick!!! Ricky could have been a decent human being if Dick would have been more open minded w his children. Ricky's mom never stepped in; regardless if it was the 70's/80's she's equally guilty. She was stuck up on appearances as well!! Fkn Ricky could have had a chance if his family gave af.
He was obsessed w occultism because he needed attention! He wanted to be noticed for something. Parents failed to recognize that Ricky was going to choose his own path. He knew he had nothing to lose!
Ricky's brain was fried. Dicks to blame. He never ever tried to understand Jimmy. He knew he was on his own. Lived life like he wanted at 17. Total destruction. Makes me fkn sad...his parents fkd him up royally.

We couldn't understand what the big deal was... we didn't feel any different. Until about an hour & a half later, when I was driving us home. Holy Hell... it got SO foggy out, & the night sky had a pink/purple haze to it (Jimi Hendrix knew what he was talking about, lol). It was a very strange night after that. I mentioned the weird fog & sky color to my step-brother the next day, & he looked at me like I had 3 heads & told me that the sky had been very clear that night. Then he asked what I'd been smoking. I wasn't lying when I replied "Nothing but Marlboros".😂😂😂
I was in HS in '81 as well, and remember those times well. While on blotter, I saw a fish "fly" out of the water, smack my friend on the side of the face (he was in knee-deep water), and wiggle away, back into the water. It was nuts! Ah, the good 'ol days...😂

I remember reading about this crime around 35 years ago when I was still fairly young. I’m 65 now and of all of the many, many true crime stories I’ve read, watched, and listened to over the years, this still remains one of the saddest, most horrifying ones of all. It’s just completely haunting. Ricky and the other boys would be in their late 50s now. I did watch an interview with Jimmy Troiano online when he was older that was interesting. It’s called “Satan in the Suburbs - Interview with Jimmy Troiano.” It’s still available.
I have been WAITING for someone to cover this story!! I am from the east coast (now in Seattle)and I remember this & then I read the book “say you love satan” many times thank you sooooo much!!
Abusing psychedelics as often as this guy did is insane to me. It has to feel terrible living like that, probably not even have good effects because of tolerance, and just scramble your brain after a while. I don't get it. Once or twice a month is plenty. Wanting to be violent while tripping is even more insane
I usually have to recollect after each trip . Forgot who I was where I was and what I was doing there on synthetic s but I held it together it all came back in 5 mins or so .
@jpollackauthor you're right! “18 and Life” is a song by Skid Row about a young man named Ricky who accidentally kills a friend with his gun, earning him a life sentence, and the consequences of his youth. The song was written by Rachel Bolan, the band's bassist, and guitarist Dave Sabo says the original inspiration was his brother Rick's life after returning from Vietnam. However, some previously believed that Sabo got the idea from a newspaper article about an 18-year-old named Ricky who was sentenced to life in prison for the same crime.
I have another book on this case by David St Clair called, 'Say You Love Satan'. Its pretty good. There was a movie made based on this book and 'The Acid King'. Its a truly tragic story. Stay safe all. Love from Australia.
I'm from Florida. When I was in high school in the 70s we went out to the cow pastures West of town and harvested shrooms. Drove back to the beach where we lived and made a nice fire pit. We just hung out listening to music. These guys were out of control.
Good morning monster fans ! As usual I wake up early and find a new monster story ,top of my feed on RUclips! Ready to listen now! Thank you Jiles for a new monster story!
I remember the picture but not the name, which is weird because I am a True Crime enthusiast. Then I looked up Kasso and saw the date and realized that this occurred around the time of the San Ysidro Massacre, so it's no wonder it got swept under the rug.

It’s just completely haunting. Ricky and the other boys would be in their late 50s now. I did watch an interview with Jimmy Troiano online when he was older that was interesting. It’s called “Satan in the Suburbs - Interview with Jimmy Troiano.” It’s still available.
Thank you!
I have been WAITING for someone to cover this story!! I am from the east coast (now in Seattle)and I remember this & then I read the book “say you love satan” many times thank you sooooo much!!
Ricky was a young boy..he had a heart of stone..
Come on Gen X, sing with me!
I absolutely love your channel. Always have, always will. Your dry sense of humor is right up my alley! Thanks Jiles!🧡💛❤️
lol it’s midnight where Jiles is
Thank you, Jiles, for another awesome episode!....Also love the Slayer shirt! 🤘
Abusing psychedelics as often as this guy did is insane to me. It has to feel terrible living like that, probably not even have good effects because of tolerance, and just scramble your brain after a while. I don't get it. Once or twice a month is plenty. Wanting to be violent while tripping is even more insane
Yeah and now that plant meds/synthetics are making a comeback as legal “ set & Setting” and “ integration” are important imo.
I usually have to recollect after each trip . Forgot who I was where I was and what I was doing there on synthetic s but I held it together it all came back in 5 mins or so .
I remember reading this book when I was a teen. It was crazy! Say you love Satan was the title, I believe.
Skid Row - 18 and life inspiration
❤ Skid Row
Never been confirmed
@jpollackauthor you're right!
No one tells a story like you brother! Keep up the great work
I have another book on this case by David St Clair called, 'Say You Love Satan'. Its pretty good. There was a movie made based on this book and 'The Acid King'. Its a truly tragic story.
Stay safe all. Love from Australia.
Sadly 95% of the St. Clair book is total bullshit.
It’s always “you’re manic depressive, here’s some lithium” innit 😅
my back STILL hurts from all the strychnine in the acid...
I'm from Florida. When I was in high school in the 70s we went out to the cow pastures West of town and harvested shrooms. Drove back to the beach where we lived and made a nice fire pit. We just hung out listening to music. These guys were out of control.

"How the fuck would I know how to get a human skull, Ricky?" - LOL! Indeed. How?
Satan is no fairytale!
Jiles, you never fail to impress! Thank you for your incredible story telling abilities!!!
I remember the picture but not the name, which is weird because I am a True Crime enthusiast. Then I looked up Kasso and saw the date and realized that this occurred around the time of the San Ysidro Massacre, so it's no wonder it got swept under the rug.
