Excellent analysis and review as usual! Thank you! I was extremely interested in the Palisade and shopped it at length in 2022. I also shopped the Highlander at the same time. I found the Palisade to be comfortable, powerful, features galore, and very roomy. I really like it. My wife didn't like the looks on the outside, but I do. However, when it came to negotiations, Hyundai in our area of Florida were tacking on a 20% (really) non-negotiable premium, and severely underpaying for trafe-ins. The dealership itself was unimpressive, and the genesis vehicles were on one side, and Hyundai on the other. Our salesperson would constantly step away to talk to perspective Genesis clients. The maintenance facilities were equally unimpressive, understanding that their reliability was a big question mark. On the other hand, Toyota has a beautiful facility and separate maintenance facility (plus I was trading in a 2021 Venza I had purchased from them), BUT they had added a blatant "Market Adjustment " of $4,995 to every Highlander. So that was not acceptable either. I ended up with a 2022 Lexus RX 450hl (hybrid) and had an incredible dealership experience, second to none (with NO add ons). The car is powerful, quiet, smooth and very comfortable. But, it also has downsides having an absolutely useless 3rd row and it's rounded shape takes away from the feeling of spaciousness and cargo space. Fortunately, it's just my wife and I, so the 3rd row is always down and we use it for extended trunk space. Unfortunately, if we have to drive 3 or more extra people, it's almost impossible and embarrassing. So, always a tradeoff. I do agree that the lack of power folding mirrors on the Palisade is a huge miss and the lack of wireless Android and Apple on the big screen is mystifying considering how up to date Hyundai's technology is!

Thanks for your take on the experience with Hyundai. I also like their vehicles but I'm not sold on the long term reliability and customer support. I've been driving Mazdas for years and while the cars are excellent the dealership experience is lacklustre. Hope you enjoy your Lexus.

I know it’s kind of like an RX from a different timeline, if you consider the history of the RX and Toyota Harrier. Would love to hear any major complaints about the Venza, as well as your favorite things. Also, why you chose to sell it!

Well done folks! IMO, Telluride is the choice BUT in the states, the Palisade Calligraphy is a bargain compared to the top end Telluride SX Prestige X-Pro AWD. That model tops at $56,000 US. And, because of the shortage and demand, Kia dealers have no shame in adding another 5-10K for a “market adjustment” which moves it into Lexus RX, Acura MDX and other luxury brands territory. There are many choices at that price range so you can choose, or keep driving what you have until the market comes back to some normalcy. Cheers.

Nice review…I’m hearing the power folding mirror issue could be COVID related and supply…my 85K Wagoneer doesn’t even have them this model year!! And as for wireless CarPlay, I’ll go out on the limb and say most people who have it, wire their phone to charge it, or have connectivity problems at times (I do in my Wagoneer so just plug it in)…most vehicles that I’ve test driven have crappy wireless charging (or none at all!), and when you are using your phone (podcast, music, Pandora), it drains the battery as fast as it charges….so, don’t really care that you need to wire your iPhone…I’m seriously considering the Palisade (Telluride was too stiff for me like you guys)…BUT, that V-6 from Hyundai has been around forever and it’s a pretty old technology…worried about carbon buildup and the fact that it’s a vestige from the days when Hyundais were not considered very good cars…will need to deep dive the reliability of the power train before I buy.

  • @ishaansaral502
    @ishaansaral502 2 года назад +3

So correct me if I'm wrong, but the Hyundai Palisade does not have power folding mirrors since they made them auto-dimming in the new refresh. The Telluride does not have auto-dimming mirrors but has power folding ones. I'm assuming they both made choices on what to add while meeting a certain pricepoint so I can't blame them for not adding power folding. I personally think auto-dimming mirrors are more useful and luxury-like, since you can always fold the mirrors manually. I think Hyundai made the right choices in making the Palisade closer to luxury. The nicer quilted massage seats with thigh extension, ventilated seats and heated 3rd row with power folding. I think they also added acoustic glass all over, more aluminium finished buttons on the Calligraphy etc. The Palisade is now the better car as of this refresh. It's always nice to see them competing even against each other, considering both are class leaders.

The car is expensive enough plus its just one more mechanical system to fail down the road.

    • @ghenry85

The owners manual book gives you a recommended change interval. It's the same as the gas version in Toyota. The gas motor on a regular hybrid comes comes on often enough. I used to think that turbo charging small engine was the best ways to imcrease efficiency. But the 5 months Ive had my Rav4 Hybrid, I've changed my mind. I think the Atkinson cycle is better. I drive mostly country roads(incase you don't know, the standard hybrid system runs the gas motor all the time at higher speeds, thus the electric side of the hybrid doesn't play as big as role), and it's getting gas milage that my parents Civic gets but in more situations. Even on a 4 lane highway, I'm always amazed at how how little gas that unit uses.

I like the Palisade a lot, but the wheels on the Calligraphy are horrible. Hyundai should make a couple of wheel options on that trim level instead of wrongly assuming that everyone who wants a Calligraphy wants a Euro multispoke wheel.

To each their own… but I do not want to pay extra for a 3rd row seat, power side view mirrors, wireless, heated rear or cooled seats (or powered rear controls), air suspension, perfume accent systems or even a powered lift gate. Whether it be the price, the extra weight or the reliability of these extras (two people I know opened their lift gates in the Winter and … well Winter won and Hyundai made some serious money for the repairs - maybe these people are idiots but … it happens)… I just want a very well built luxuriously appointments for the front passengers (the owners/the parents) with great reliable build quality. 5-10 years ago we didn’t need all this stuff, so why should every car have them. Though… some should for those other (majority?) people who do. That’s my rant.
That said… I’m finally a convert! I now prefer the Palisade over the Telluride. I think that KIA’s latest external refresh did not evolve it’s unique look, the Hyundai made this latest Palisade look so much more regal. Or as Andrea said “stately”. Well done Hyundai! Thanks for another great review.

That is the worst grill I have ever seen. That aside, I wish you could speak to the expected reliability of these models. I shy away from Kia and Hyundai because of their past reliability performance. They seem to drive well and are cheaper than competitors, but long-term you get what you pay for.

Lots of driving noise in cabin bc a long area underneath the car is not insulated.
The exhaust pipes don't have a good weld. 😕 There's two places where Huundai installed mesh. That means it will leak down the road. Design mess up.
Interior is cool. Ride is OK. Noisy.
Tires are soft, cheap and not rugged enough.

Good luck with rock chips on that plastic chrome grill. The only recourse is replacement or covering with ppf - what a pain. And a push button shifter - the answer to the question that was never asked. I would take a Mazda CX 9 for the drive, torque and appearance, every, single, time. The Mazda CX 90 will be an even more interesting option and likely, again, a much better handling vehicle, never mind a luxury, straight six cylinder.

@@andreaspencer9813 Interesting. Thanks for the comment. If I am not mistaken, you guys tested the top trim levels in each (SXP and Calligraphy). Seat comfort being very important to me, I test drove several Telly trim levels and, not surprisingly, found the Telluride SXP Nappa leather seats more comfortable than the lower trim levels. I wasn't interested in the Palisade because of the lack of power folding mirrors so did not drive them. So I ordered a 2023 Telluride SXP. Hope I made the right decision-you guys have me a bit concerned. I guess I can add a butt cushion if I need it! 😁

I test drove the Telluride, the seats and ride are firmer which gave the impression of handling a bit sturdier. I do prefer the softer ride of the Palisade, which drives similarly to the Hyundai Santa Fe.
