This was easily the most disturbing scene in the movie. You're waiting for it to be a hallucination. You're hoping that someone will just believe her or show her sympathy. But she is completely shut out and alone. That guttural scream after she crashes into the glass coffee table seals the deal. She has been reduced from an accomplished doctor to a woman unhinged and without hope in sight.
This scene shocked me for sure when i first saw this.
Exactly. I was thinking "This can't be real, right?"
I lmao'ed in the theatre.
@@tristenmoore1275chills all the way down my spine. Frightening, frightening movie
@@Tiroth77oh man, you must be super cool and dark and tough, right?
Damn... Makes you wonder what the other victims went through before they died. That child will never forget this birthday. 😢
Retitle this as "Happy D3ath Day"
That kid probsbly will have the demon passed on yo him because of how tramatic it was for him
@@Spectacularhudson87if someone dies in front of him and has it then yes
it genuinely makes me sad when she’s hugging her cat because man she’s sobbing god damn i love cats this is making me sad that the cat was randomly killed
Same. You gotta admit though. Good move by the director/writer. Like wow.
Thank god it's CGI.
No cat was killed, bluu ... it's just a prop or CGI cat. In the US, harming or killing or even mildly inconveniencing an animal for a film can be the kiss of death to the production.
that cat is fake
i know man, i was literally tearing up man 😥
This was by far the most disturbing part of the movie, everything from the shame she gets from the people in the room, to her genuine sadness because of the cat being dead, to the way she holds the cat. Every little detail in the scene is genuinely so off putting.
I think the most terrifying thing about this movie isn't really the entity itself but rather the fact that since its such an unspeakably horrifying thing that only affects one person at a time, absolutely no one is going to believe it's real because when you try to get help, you just end up looking like a crazy person. Because how could you possibly explain this to anyone?
Yea, gives you some empathy for the poor schizophrenics wasting away in asylum who really believe their delusions. The brain is one complicated machine, like anything else complicated, things being slightly off can really throw things out of wack.
My cat recently got lost and is likely dead. This scene really hit me hard. She holds on to Mustache so lovingly and her screams are a combination of fear, guilt, and sadness.
I'm sorry about your cat. Spot on observation
Don't lose hope, my friend.
Rip cat😢
❤️
I'm so sorry ❤
I think the scariest part of the scene is how out of pocket it is. The last thing you’d expect the birthday present to be is a dead cat, and everyone’s reaction to how strange and morbid this gift is adds onto how disturbing this scene is.
Do you know what an allegory is?
@@Wetknees nope lol
I agree!
I actually found that most deeply disturbing and terrifiant thing throughout the entire film .
I couldn’t agree more.
In fact, I found this scene of the entire film so deeply disturbing and unsettling. That I try to refrain myself, from rewatching it.
You mean terrifying Not Terrifiant
ikr the poor cat 😢
@@xkia8531 and the women crying like she killed the cat and boxed it on the birthday of the kid
It's crazy to me how I can see somone get killed in a horror movie and sometimes not bat an eye.
But this scene was so disturbing to me. Seeing, in real time, how Rose just turns into this mentally unstable woman to everyone at the party. I felt so bad for her. And Mustache ☹️
It's just a movie.
@@bobm7250 damn I thought it was a documentary
The movie will tear you apart and haunt you for life. Warn other people before watching it.
I think it most likely has to do with the dead cat.
The child is such an amazing actor. From him going from being excited to being disturb, the facial expression change. I have to give it to him. He was so amazing and he is a cutie. This scene was definitely the most disturbing part of the movie.
This is more depressing than scary, seeing a poor cat dead like that while she is hugging that carefully on her lap does break hard my heart, that scene buffed more my depression.
I found this scene to be the most disturbing. The poor sweet boy traumatized and the dead cat 😞
Agreed. They actor who played the boy is Matthew Lamb and I hear he’s a very talented kid
When Rose smiled and did the thumbs up...had me rolling. Making what comes next more disturbing 🤯😵💫😂😂
Lmfaooo 😂😭
And funny ASF 🤣🤣 she set him up lmfao
@@kingkrysenSurprise, kid! 🤣💀
An oscar-worthy act
Got me dead
Sosie Bacon is SUPERB in this
Other than her screams at the end , pretty phenomenal stuff.
😂 I read this as an Oscar-worthy cat!
@@Colinkrauss1 honestly, the screams just made it better
sound design of this movie was incredible
Finally ! Someone else noticed
The scariest part is that we (the audience) know that she’s perfectly sane. But everyone around her think she’s completely insane.
Can't even blame anyone around her
Also feel sorry for the little boy to find that in his birthday present he is going to be traumatised
it's not good. The entity feeds on trauma…
When they showed the cat in the beginning of the movie, I knew something was going to happen to it. However, this was not on my list....
Right? I KNEW something bad was going to happen to the cat even thought “yep…he is gonna die”
Thought I was ready and wouldn’t be disturbed. Then they did this…. It wasn’t too gore filled but the emotional brutality. Felt so bad for Rose too. :/
Yep. Anytime you see a pet in a horror film, you know they're gonna get it. 😟
I assumed we’d get a cat smile, so they did a good job not going with the obvious.
It never occurred to Rose’s family and friends that someone could’ve tampered with her gift? I felt bad how no one would listen to her. This scene disturbed and surprised me so much!
Except that she was pointing out the smiling girl that nobody could saw except her .
no cause honestly if my family got me their dead cat id think it was tampered with
Wwll um they might have at first but then yknow she began yelling at something that wasnt there =/
Tbf some people just have a late reaction, the silence they gave her could be them doubting if something happened to her.
I love cats so much this scene was very different and sad to watch
I actually found this scene of the entire film so deeply disturbing and unsettling. That I try to refrain myself, from rewatching it.
@@theBigA1992 It was such a great film very scary that why I rewatched it but the worst scene for me was the cat one
Did they show the actual killing of Mustache?
@@jess4metoo no he just goes missing and it isn't shown how exactly he got killed
@@jess4metoo if it’s any consolation it would appear that he simply got stabbed or something. The body is largely in tact… probably to keep it recognizable and all the more disturbing. Not mutilated or anything. I was thankful. The scene was disturbing enough…didn’t need it to go that extra step.
1:13 me when my birthday gift doesn't go well as planned
you have turkish blood ahahaha
@@cr7_goat8 ahh yes casual xenophobia, haha.. soooo funny
The way the kid's smile melts away lol
Uhhhhg, I like Thomas, not chuggington
@@cr7_goat8 Huh?? Nobody loves cats more than Turks lol idgi
that was one of the most disturbing scenes i have ever seen in my life. congratulations 🎉
Im sure this is everyones favorite scene. Not only did Rose traumatize her nephew. But she also made a spectacle of herself and damaged one of Hollys property. The glass table fall was the icing on the cake
0:13 - 0:38 the rhythm 🔥
Watching this scene while baked was one of the most terrifying experiences I’ve ever had
Same! Just did so last night and I couldn’t believe it. I also thought it was a live cat at first and was confused by their horror until I realized…
Yeah watching this high is a hell of a ride😂
This scene genuinely shocked me the first time in the theater.

Joker: "Happy Birthday Catwoman!"

I loved this movie, perfectly encapsulates dread and paranoia. I just love it.
If anyone has recommendations on movies that are like Smile please let me know 🙏
ghost just bullying her for no reason lamao
Yeah.
That's how it is in every supernatural horror movie
Scariest smile in the whole movie 2:22
Just like your School Yearbook Photo
@@LuzNoceda4162 Damn bro woke up and chose violence 💀
@@SkullEmojeee I was about to sleep but now I woke up 💀
I think I understand the trick to make it creepy : you have to smile only by showing you upper teeth and hiding the lower ones with you lip on the mandible level. Easy peasy, limon squeezy .

Ohhhh the poor cat 😭
RIP Moustache
It was a fake stuffed animal doll cat.
@@jim6820obviously, its a movie. still quite sad
@@jim6820 W-Wait you... You Serious ?
I've been lied to 😢
I freaking hate it when they add these kinds of scenes in horror movies or any movie in fact, because I deeply love animals.
This scene made me cry, and disturbed.
Poor mustache
Part of me wonders why the family didn't believe her? Someone easily could've put that box there and framed her. Also, why would she kill her own cat, put it in a box, but then have a breakdown and act like she didn't do it?
When she fell through the table Damn…. Can somebody at least try to help her
I know right I understand the shock of the cat being found but if i saw my relative or friend fall through a glass table I’m gonna make sure there okay or call an ambulance
this made me scared for my cats for a good week, i was worried that if i didn’t see them for long periods of time that someone or something had taken them
It feels sad watching Rose Suffering
I'm a big horror/thriller fan, and for the record this movie was very good (Sosie Bacon did a great job). Watching this again last night though I had to skip this scene, just upsetting on so many levels.
The poor cat though. 😢
This is a roller coaster of emotions for people who weren’t raised how to properly handle or Xpress them.
The first half was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in years. And it’s sad how even if somebody did believe her. Nobody cares.
For me this scene was second best, only under the scene in the kitchen where she sees the smile just waiting in the dark 😅
Creapiest happy birthday song😱
This was possibly one of the most disturbing scenes out of all the gore movies I watched, the boy is probably going to be traumatized from that.
This is the most frightening movie I've seen, ever. I screamed right out from my lungs from the jump scares, as they were not obvious.
Okay I get that the cat died and stuff but the kid slayed for being a Percy fan
I thought the toy train was in the box, but - no - that was Rose’s cat (Mustache). Rose was trying to feed her cat, Mustache, but she couldn’t find Mustache in the forest and somebody killed Mustache and put Mustache in the birthday present. This is the most terrifying and saddest part I ever seen in my life.
i’m pretty sure she killed mustache and the entity covered that memory up with the fake phone call hallucination
Hate to tell you, but Rose (or at least her body) killed Mustache…and was probably smiling while doing so.
@ellis51773 This is actually accurate and disturbing
In the tradition of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Pet Sematery, and Sleepwalkers.
I understand how it was hard for them to believe her, but it still sickens me how they shut her out and didn’t show her an ounce of sympathy despite the amount of emotion that she had.
Considering that, realistically, some schizophrenic people are completely delusional , it seems more easy for them to think that Rose was crazy.
At least they could have tried to help her when she fell on the glass table :/
Would say this was the most scary scene of the movie really enjoyed the movie
guys smile isn’t a horror movie, it’s just showing how *Kindness Is Free*
2:12 Meanwhile...
( Rose yelling at the girl who is smiling)
Other people in the party:
What I do? 👁️💧👄💧👁️
"What did you get, sweetheart?"..."I got a moustache!"
I don’t get how people laughed at this this was a terrifying movie and I barely say that to movies
Well, we knew Mustache was doomed when he missed dinner…and Junior will never forget this birthday…until he gets intensive therapy…
And the sound effects in the background
This made me so sad that I was praying that in the end of the movie, she wakes up and it was all just a dream
Her scream😢
I'm sorry but this scene had me laughing... I know its a horrifying scene and I love cats
Bro that scare the absolute heck out of my bro I felt like my soul left my body and came back after the mom fell and shattered the table
Am I the only one who laughed at this scene? 😂
No, this movie was hilarious
i found this really sad, show me a man killed in movie i am not that moved, but a cat... i hate it.
Nah I laughed too. That was the worst CGI ever. why didn’t they use practical effects? Or a stuffed cat?
@@hpluvcraftskat6889 Cause the vast majority of people watching wouldn't be able to tell. I definitely did not while watching the movie and upon multiple viewing of the scene until I read the comments
I was crying!!😂
I feal so bad for her😢
This movie was traumatizing. I wish she survived. :(
2:04 I never thought someone could actually make a scene scary like that with people in broad daylight. This was pure genius.
When she says no no mustache 😭😭😭😭😭
Not only that !!! I never noticed this
But the wrapping paper on Rose's gift is YELLOW !!!! . Yellow is normally stated as a happy color. Thus even MORE empasis on the unintentional irony of the scene. With the dead cat
the best scene in the movie. I remember instantly knowing it was the cat after the kid started opening the present from her.
Worst birthday ever
A goth kid will love this😂
Well at least, the other gifts and the cake was good.
I agree
This was a good film but I called what was gonna be in the box and it just made me lol 😂 😂
I really want to see this movie
i got a fever the day i decided to watch smile with my mom… luckily it wasnt that bad but still. i felt nauseous almost the whole day
Lolol best scene in the movie. The kid look like wtf ima do with a dead cat?? lolol
While this is a horrific scene, I hate to be that guy but the fact that he's holding a CGI cat in his hands makes it a little sillier, LOL.
You won't believe this but i do have a cat names moustache and he looks identical to this cat....im crying 😭
OK I cried 😭
i love this movie
Funny because nobody in her family believes her lmao like that was the funniest part of the movie 😂
funniest?? I am depressed
I don’t think she will be invited next year
i feel bad for rose and her nephew in this scene...😢😢this scene was so sad rip rose's cat😞😞😞😞
The part where the boy pulled the dead cat of the box, it looked so CGI.
I wish it were Richard Nixon, Rutherford Hayes, Harry Anslinger or Andrew Jackson inside that box instead of that poor little cat
1:23As soon as he. Pulls the cat out of the box.😑 sorry... The music The cat The children screaming. I had The most terrifying. Feeling In my whole body. The scene has gotten me good 2 weeks Of pure fear....GOODGOD Goosebumps and a s*** ton.

Best music score since Sinister.
I prefer sinisters its so unique
OMG IM SO SCARED THIS FILM IS GIVING ME THE CREEPS
Im crying
Considering how obnoxiously money-grubbing his parents were, I thought he was just disappointed over how "plain" the gift was.
I was so glad to be mistaken.
R.I.P the goat mustache 😢
2:23 That is the one who killed the cat.
It's just sad that the curse literally destroys people's lives before killing them
It’s very sad knowing they already have trauma before and the curse just worsens it until they die
i cried at this part bc the cat died :(
Just me but the sound that played when it showed the cat kinda sounded like a cats meow
Just yknow
More haunting
I HATE THAT LADY WHEN SHE SMILES!😾😾
Poor Ralphie got a dead cat for his birthday.
