- An Ecuadorian woman who was declared dead astonished her relatives when she began banging on her coffin in the middle of her wake. 76-year-old Bella Montoya Tapia was declared dead after a "presumptive cerebrovascular accident” last week, the health ministry said, but was taken back to hospital after showing signs of life from inside her coffin.

Now think about those who weren't rescued in time and were buried alive. There must be a few, right? 😱
They used to tie a bell to their toes, and the graveyard attendant would listen for it. Hence the phrase: saved by the bell
@@smrk2452 thanks. I learned something new😊
Wow jus learn something
Ironically was just reading up in this because I was reading of a cemetery worker around 1900 who was digging a grave for a Mr.Alberts, and he was not embalmed ,and the cemetery worked heard a clicking sound coming from inside the casket that was next to where he was working, and he freaked out like most would do and ran to the neighboring house and the neighbor and him ran back to the grave site and when they got the lid open,Mr.Alberts was on his stomach but had suffocated. This happened in the town of Eastmanviile,Michigan.I also read that there were caskets made called "Safe caskets" where tubing was brought from inside the casket up to the surface and there was a rope in the casket going up the tubes with a bell and people were assigned to stay at the gravesite for a number of hours,in case someone in the casket was alive they could ring the bell! And there were some who did not make it because no one was there to hear the bell, and that is where the old saying,"Dead Ringer" came from. There is a cemetery in Hillsborough county Florida that supposedly still have the tubes by graves according to a guy who lives by Tampa said on FB?
@@smrk2452that's where we get the saying "Saved by the Bell" comes from

At one time, they used to make coffins with a window above the deceased's head, just in case they came back to life before they were buried.
Not so long ago people were buried with a cord in their hands, attached to a bell on the surface. In case they were buried alive and wake up they could ring the bell and be saved. Hence the expression: "Saved by the bell."

Dead ringer
This is actually why wakes exist... for this very reason. Hundreds of years ago, it was common for people to be found alive after believed to be dead since they suffered from so many unknown illnesses. Wakes started in 6th Century Ireland to make sure that people were actually dead. Now it's morphed into a way for loved ones to say goodbye, but every now and then, this happens. A real miracle each and every time.
Yes, true. Open casket wakes that last up to a week still happen today in other countries. It's so all members of the family and friends can come to say their goodbyes and pay respects, and also donate money, help & resources to the grieving family to cover the costs and necessities of the funeral services.
A "wake," makes sense now. Thx.
You know this is very interesting coming from theJewish perspective because we have the funeral and bury our dead as soon as possible.
Looks to me like the family tried to collect they insurance money to early. Like they knew she wasnt dead, and maybe gave her meds to appear dead.
@@EternalResonance do they have life insurance in Ecuador?
A very similar thing happened to an older friend of mine after a car accident in 1965.
He was declared dead at the scene, dead on arrival at the hospital and then was placed in a body bag. He lay inside that bag for hours until a relative came to identify the body.
When they mistakenly unzipped the wrong bag and asked the relative if that was his cousin, he replied, "No. But that other bag over there just moved!"
They unzipped the bag and inside was my friend, still alive!!!
58 years later, he's still with us.
The odds of that doctor walking in and showing the relative the wrong body bag, at the exact same moment that my friend's body bag moved
are unfathomable!
It wasn't his time back in '65.
By the way, he's one of the nicest guys that you will ever meet.
God bless him. 🙏
And your friend, turned out to be....

She has agonal breathing, she is actively dying but not died yet.
Everyone thinks they're a doctor 😂
@Bitchslapper316 It is true. I saw my grandmother breathe like that right before she died
probably because they left her in a holding spot for a week with no water or food. She probably has severe brain damage and is highly unlikely to recover.
Oh my gosh! such a shocking miracle this is! I swear if I WAS HER her daughter and child, you do not know how happy I would be to see my mother alive. I would not stop hugging and loving her...But afterwards I do have questions as to how this mistake had happened.

It is sad to think that she will likely die soon, anyway. She looked to be in very poor condition. I hope I was wrong for the family's sake.
According to the news articles that have a bit more detail she went in for a cardiac issue on Friday and was pronounced dead. It said she is currently in the ICU in unstable condition.
At least a week with absolutely ZERO care! No food, water, medical help. She definitely won’t make it too long with how old she is but amazing she’s alive rn
@@isuapig6705
A week?
Not really.
Yes, she looks very rough. I'm sad these were her last experiences. A clean death would have been better.
She did not look alive. She was breathing. But it looked like an automatic response but her brain was dead. I’ve seen that. My own mother was like that for two days before she finally stopped breathing. They don’t say if she ever revived from that but I’m guessing she did not. Her brain was dead. I’ve also seen animals do that. Breathe like that just before they die. It’s like a computer that gets caught in a feedback loop. The primal part of the brain is the last to die. The part that keeps the heart beating and lungs going. That lady was dead by the end of the day I guarantee it. That is exactly what my mother was doing before she died. Exactly. She would open her mouth and take a gasp, but she wasn’t there. Just gone. You could sense she just wasn’t there anymore. No soul. Then at the very end she stopped taking breaths. Her diaphragm stopped but her mouth kept opening and closing like a dying fish. Until finally it stopped. Witnessing that is extremely traumatic! Let me tell you!!
Didn’t they say she was knocking on the casket so they opened it to find her alive still???
She had enough brain power to bang on the casket to get them to open it. Yes it is the last part of the brain to go but she looks better than agonal breathing .
I'm not having MY blood removed either. When we're embalmed, we need a miracle of resuscitation! HALLELUJAH! 🙏🏼🙌🏼✝️❤️
"For with God nothing shall be impossible." Luke 1:37! GLORY!
My mother and grandmother the samething happened and I lost my mother young and I was telling them that she cannot breathe and before she threw up a bunch of black stuff and I told the woman she cannot breathe. Yes it was horrible and traumatizing. Sometimes I think instant deatths are better like in car accidents than seeing someone suffering in agonizing pain for two years from cancer.
I seriously doubt she was banging on the coffin! She was barely hanging on and breathing her last breaths. This type of breathing is called Cheyne stokes breathing that a dying person goes into before they die .
God bless this woman 🙏🏻✝️🙌🏻🕊️
@Emmanuel Tube
God richly bless you too-!!

God let her almost get buried alive and go without food or water for days.
You religious people are too much. This is pure incompetence, but you see it as some godly divine intervention. This is the reason why society, deeply influenced by religion, remains unequal because people wait for God to fix such problems.
That should definitely help things
He already did.
This is unfortunately agonal breathing, which is the body's last defense for life. Very very VERY few people survive after agonal breathing begins. Oxygen is extremely important and crucial in those 5 minutes.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. When they showed her, she's clearly in a state of agonal breathing.
This is the exact reason why bells were provided to the dearly departed in their coffin in case something like this happens.
As shocking and ...awesome(?) as this is, for the family to have their loved one return, I am sitting here in tears praying that my husband was truly dead when he was interred. This is definitely a 'triggering' story. God bless that woman and her family.
Your husband's Earthly body may be dead, but he is alive in Christ.

Whoever declared her deceased needs to be removed ASAP from ANY patient’s care. And the lady needs to sue that individual and the institution!
I agree. I'm no doctor, but isn't living person or dead person like, medicine 101?
@@eringallagher9381 not necessarily. People's bodies can shut down ina a way that appears like death. they stop breathing and their pulse goes to almost zero .I can only assume she is one of those weird cases, where they coudn't feel a pulse or see her breathing and she didn't respond to stimuli, so called it. and then didn't check back. They obviously didn't do an autopsy, thank goodness for her. It's called catalepsy, and it is probably what happened that we know the fable of Lazarus waking from the dead.
You have to realize that your entire body doesn't die all at once. if your heart stops, that doesn't necessarily mean that your heart cell are dead, just that they cannot agree on the signal to all contract at the same time and thus, there is no pump. The cells in your body can all keep functioning so long as there is oxygen and glucose. they can slow down, without dying, and then if the cells get back on track, they can "bring you back" to normal function breathign and beating,
Hypothermia, and drowning are another set of circumstances where a person can appear dead until the body is brought back to functioning temperature and the body can recover from the torpor and shock.
In countries where medicine is not a strict, I'm sure plenty of people have looked dead and been passed along as such. Since they are focused on dealign with helping injured stay alive, it seems it would be easy to overlook what looks like a corpse. They aren't going in to see if rigormortis is happening and other stuff, especially if they see no need to go and see why the person "died" because they are sure why they "died".

What, they didn't do an autopsy on this woman when she was declared dead? No embalming fluid or anything huh? This seems strange to me.
Not every culture does that.
It looks like she went straight from hospital to funeral parlour. She still had the hospital bracelet on and her nightgown. She looks like she wasn't prepared yet.
This is Latin America my dear, they put us in a casquet for a few hours and then bury us
The embalming is WAAAAY more strange. (Do Americans think they're Pharaohs?)
At the age she has, they usually don't do an autopsy when she is suspected of dying from natural causes like a heart attack.
But how terrifying to wake up in a coffin! 😱
I've often wondered how many people have been buried alive through the centuries. Bless her heart...❤...I've also wondered over the years how many people believe false narratives about who their biological parents/children are. With advancing gene technology, a lot of progress has been made in this regard. Cheers, all...☀
They used to have beds in the coffin
Usually they’ll empty out the body organs and blood cleaned out and pumped full of embalming fluid, so I’ll guess not many survive that.
