  • Complete build of the diorama for the HobbyBoss Dora German Railway Gun in 1:72 scale. The Dora model kit was supplied by Scale Models HQ (scalemodelshq.com?aff=3).
    In my previous video I built the majority of the Dora components. In this video I put the finishing touches on the model and then build the terrain including rock faces, static grass, and a dirt raod.

    Hi there, I was watching 👀your Dora builds last week and my wife was watching with me. My son, who lives in Brisbane, likes his history and building models. My wife said let's buy him this for his birthday 🎂, I thought at $300 plus dollars let's get something else anyway, I checked and for $287 Aussie dollars $327 NZ dollars-ish, and free delivery anywhere in Australia 🇦🇺 from Frontline Hobbies in Sydney I bought him this model. He got it today and told us he always wanted it and was going to buy it himself, score one for his mother 👩. I sent him your Dora build videos 📹 so he said he'll watch them. So thank you for this build.

    It's certainly a beast ! Well done for finishing the kit , mine is in storage in the loft at the moment part done .
    Pity Hobby Boss didn't supply the right tracks for the base , it ran on a specially made rail track

      Yes, it would have been useful. I was looking at some 3D printed parts that might include them.

    As a returning modeller the pleasure I have had for months buying kits and using all the tips from this channel and others have shown me to achieve some great looking 1/35 scale & 1/72 scale kits has been endless. Still cannot use my airbrush properly but it's fun making mistakes. Model Nerds posts on the Dora were just memorizing and the model itself is just totally out of my league....... I got drunk last night 😇 and apparently Amazon are delivering " the Dora " Sunday morning 😳.... When my wife goes for my jugular when it arrives tomorrow, I am blaming THIS CHANNEL 🥰

    A quick note about the shells. Near the base of a shell there should be a slightly raised band. This is the copper driving band. Artillery shells have this ring so the copper bites into the rifle groves of the barrel to get the spin for accuracy.

    I am going to have to make a rock face for mine now. I think it really sets off the model. I see you painting individual stones and I reckon you have been watching Night Shift. I find a light colour dry brushing less mind numbing.
    To those thinking of building this kit it is a real mammoth build and to a certain extent quite a repetitive build as both sides of the gun are identical.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      Thanks Allan. Yes, I was happy with the rockface. I dry-brushed most of the stones but picking out a few in stand-out colours works very well first I think. Definitely not all of them though :)

    Just picked this up yesterday for $40
    (40% off sale + Via Gift Card) The original price was $300
    In any case, the Hobby shop I got it at also has the 1:35 scale version!!!!!!
    The barrel for the 1:72 Scale is about 3 feet long. I can't even imagine how big the 1:35 scale one is! But if you are ever in Marlboro Massachusetts, head over to the Spare Time shop and pick it up for $900. You might need to also buy another house to display it in as well.
    They also have the 1:200 Scale Yamato and Bismark.

    The fact that that is an absolute detailed beast of a kit is brought out so much better by the raw rockface behind it. Fitting end to the build series.
    I've read conflicting claims that the gun was destroyed by the Germans to prevent it being captured by the Americans according to some sources or by the Russians according to others. In any case, a nice what-if twist would be to include Allied vehicles and troops on the diorama to indicate a successful capture.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад +1

      Thanks Mark. That's an awesome idea - Allied troops climbing all over it inspecting things close up would be fantastic. Unfortunately I've found it really hard to get 1:72 scale figures of any type :(

    Btw, telling yourself "I don't want to buy any more kits" doesn't work - I tried and I tried and I failed miserably 😁Just this morning the mailman delivered my last purchase which was supposed to be my last kit for at least three months. What can I say, I am weak, I admit it... so only two hours later I looked around on eBay, just for fun. But immediately fun turn into serious business because I came across a kit I liked ... and of course I bought it. As I said before, I am weak .don't you dare judge me! But this will be my last - for sure 😎

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      Thanks Edward. I thought of doing that but there were two potential issues - firstly it would increase the depth of the base, which is already quite large. And secondly the kit doesn't seem to be engineered to allow it to go on a curved rail. The connections to the carrying wagons are square and the overlap with the wagons below means they can't really rotate, unfortunately.
