That opening challenge. Information overload. That’s what I was going through. I haven’t even got through one harvest. Before I started calling I watched probably 100 videos read two books and then I killed four seasons before I even got a successful plant to badge so I kind of dumbed it down. Now I listen to all your guys channels, from the grow tent, Scottie Real and Chad Westport. But I try to keep it simple now.
Hell yeah appreciate you guys learned alot from ya'll i stopped growing for a few years but im gonna get back into it i remember when you guys first started the stash came a hell of a long way from where you fellas started
Almost 2 years of growing this plant lifetime gardener. I went aci 4x4 kit with build a soil. Have cover crop and couldn’t be easier. Upgrading my light for more weight now that I have 5 runs in. Pretty much just water and a few build a soil goodies here and there like bloom boost or craft blend. Also have worm bins from gardening before so all full of worms and worm casting as well
I saved over what I spent my first year and I smoke a lot. Cannatrol for drying and curing for me never done a old school dry and cure and my family loves mine over any dispo or dealer weed
Love this episode, many people grow for many different reasons as well as styles. Personally I love the science, after starting indoor growing with gifted plant and tent, along with the light. Used equipment, all. It lit a fire in my mind that I had neglected for a few years. Now I have a grow lab. I enjoy the science and tools are needed for metrics. Shinny equipment syndrome,,, yes, I justify my addiction as a hobby. But hey at least my weed is expensive. Haha, I’m having fun and learning a ton.
I love the challenge of diseases and bugs. Learning what to do when another leaf issue pops up. But don't get discouraged, you learn something new every grow. Another great video, guys.
Another pet peeve is spending $40 on a bag of amended soil and videos suggesting I add another $50 of additional ingredients. If I’m paying $40 for a bag of soil it darn well better have everything I need in the bag. I pour COM Stonington directly into the fabric pot and my plants grow just fine. Same principle for any other brand. The only time I want to add to it is when top dressing or refreshing used soil for another grow. I’m not sure what’s considered a new grower now that I think of it. If one season of liquid nutrient grows both photos and autos and a second season of organic is new then I’m new. I use a good quality PH meter, highly rated grow medium and top dressing or refreshing the fertilizer. I RH my water and have to add cal-mag. I use several types of microbes, kelp meal, lobster meal, all purpose fertilizer and fish bone meal as well as worm castings. Recharge and a couple other things including a modest use of NPK boosters. Haven’t lost a plant or had a problem with potency or lost seedlings. Got a pretty good feel for watering, trichome development and drying/curing and am confident when I plant that I’m going to see it through to the finish line. All self taught by watching videos and taking notes at 71 years young when I started. People that see my grows ask for free samples and ask grow questions so they must like it. I feel inadequate when discussing growing online where I tend to get dismissed as too old to have a voice at the table. Aside from that I’ve settled into a comfortable routine that proves that pretty much anyone can do this.
Stonington blend is good by itself for 4-6 weeks depending on pot to plant size. But you should have to amend once a month or split it down to 1/2 as much every two weeks
@ what you’re saying is printed on the side of the bag and in their feeding chart. I have done photos in 5 gallon and autos in three gallon without any issues. Like I said, I’ve got a grow routine that works consistently for me pretty much since my first plants. Supplying my own cannabis has been surprisingly easy. It’s far from the most difficult thing I have self taught myself to do. I’m not looking to change a thing. I’m in the twilight of my life so if I can stay healthy enough to do this for another five or ten years I’m happy. My thing right now is hoping that I can keep up with the house and stay here where I can grow. If we have to go into senior apartments or something like that I’ll be done growing. I figure I can hang in here for a few more years as long as I can still get around enough to tend my garden. I go in for chemo today and tomorrow for my monthly drip. I grow because we don’t have caregivers here and ounces cost $250 to upwards of $500 at dispensaries. If I couldn’t grow I’d be hurting as I can’t afford to purchase cannabis anymore.
PS, I transplant up to bigger pots a couple times with photos. Autos require a different schedule and those are working out fine with the feeding as well.
Hope you get better.Im 67 and grow for my pain was a carpenter all my life it helps. When I was a kid helped my Grandma with her roses when I grow it gives good memories.@@StanMNdirt
as a newbie .... autopot system with airdromes, coco, clay pebbles, auto flowers, canna A&B, silica. starting my second run with this setup and the last one was a hit compared to soil in fabric pots. doesn't get any easier than this. So this time we will see how the better genetics go.
My favorite episode in the last 3 months! Great takes and info, so many make it harder and more complicated then it needs to be, start simple and go from there, you may very well find you're very happy with simple hands on grows not everyone needs nor wants automation, or app control. Some probably don't even need it if they have it if they're in basements which is super common in the Midwest. Don't even need a tent, get a light, a floor fan, and a closet. Tent, exhaust, humidifiers all that can be had as you go like y'all said. Gonna bookmark this episode to share with folks!
Really great episode, fellas. Rock solid advice throughout. Some related challenges are 1) learning to pay attention to the plants more than any particular feeding/watering schedule, 2) being patient instead of trying to force the results you want, and 3) not comparing yourself too harshly with others (many of the growers you see online have tons of experience and/or expensive equipment that you might not). Seeing what others are doing can be super helpful, but don't get too discouraged if you don't get the same results right away.
One of the biggest problems beginners have is watering. It takes practice we know but while learning maybe beginners start with a S.I.P. Or sub irrigation planter also known as an eatthbox. They can practice hand watering around there transplant for a week or two until they see growth in the eatthbox then they fill the 3 gallon reservoir and no worries about watering at that point. Build a soil has tutorial videos on earthboxes.
Around the 9:00 range, Yeah, starting out, yiu should just pick something simple and copy a process. I do Stash blend along with MrCanucks recipes for gia green in coco. I'm gonna diverge from MC next grow and do blumat irrigation.
The biggest challenge I have faced from the start, is motivation to flip into flower. Sounds weird, I know, but I’m Constantly trying to push for the best training techniques and that takes time during veg. The longer Veg time, the more training I get to do. So yeah, motivation to flip. P.S. Wild Style Takes Time. Lmfao
@ The trick I use to fill corners naturally, aka before training, Is to look for the plants that have that Random side branch that wants to stick straight out farther than any others, train those downwards to get them to stretch even farther horizontally, and use those branches to fill corners.
all the extra stuff you can buy is only going to hurt you in the beginning. get yourself base nutrients, a good light, tent, and ventilation. learn watering. them worry about the additives. the law of minimum is all you need to know, your grow is only as strong as your weakest link. you could be doing everything right but get watering wrong and you won’t get a product you’ll be happy with.
