- The Gashlycrumb Tinies is a short picture book depicting the Alphabet in a very Unique type of illustration that Tim Burton probably drew inspiration from, with the writing style of Edgar Allan Poe. It's very Gorey and I love it!

Bought this for my nephew when he was born. ..... My sister-in-law didn't think it was 'appropriate'.
[Long sigh]
I worry my nephews are being raised improperly.
You mean properly? :p

OMG YES

Over the years I have felt at times like 'Neville who died of ennui'. And always I remember that deadly smog of Gorey cross-hatching and the tiny upper half of the child's white face in the midst. Surely the darkest single drawing he ever did.
One by one we bite the dust, kick the bucket, begin to rust. Give up the ghost when our numbers up, we all fall down... ^_^

Ashes to ashes bones to paste, you'll wither away in your resting place. Eternity in a wooden case we all fall down!
Except Ida drowned, not Amber. And it was Rhoda, not Marie, who died in a fire.

So, Corey demise, and the animation everything can kill you, was inspired by this book, nice.
There was a documentary on the making of "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and it said that the art director wanted to create the Halloween Town sets in a style similar to Edward Gorey.
I can definitely see the influence
I remember my English teacher showed the class this in year 8.... Everyone laughed at Fanny...
*Bruh sound effect*
Ummm... Can we talk about the thing that a teacher showed this to 8 years old kids?
*For Me Everyone Laughed At Edward, Susan And George.*

Nice choice, Gorey is one of my personal heroes. I read this one too, as the second thing I've ever read. I thought about saving it for later, but I loved it so much I wanted to read it right away.
Abbi Normal I just started reading him again. I vaguely remember him from my childhood as my mother never really liked the art and themes in these.

@@AceofScares you forgot ONE IMPORTANT WORD of death
Actually, Tim Burton was, most likely, influence by Edward Gorey (1925-2000)
+Mary Tabeling Thanks for the clarity
There is something that matches both creators. The characters in their works all are morbid or creepy but have a kind of wink and a nod if you pay attention to them.

I liked Dante's Infernal Guide to Your School. Lent it out and never got it back. Hope to find another copy somewhere. I have a nephew named Dante too. Loved Dante's Paradisio series too.
I don't want to hear Edward Gorey read aloud by any living voice but yours.
Good ol' Gorey.
Yea I had forgotten this poem/alphabet existed
The word ennui is pronounced on-wee
I've realized that a month after I posted this video. I've never heard of the word until recently. Thanks for helping with the correct pronunciation :3
+Ace of Scares there are quite a few mispronounced words and names.
