How are the bars holding up? I have one installed (love it) and another I want to install on another bike. But I just got an email from Universal Cycles that Why Cycles strongly advises customers not to use the bars due to some fatigue failures (1%).

Yeah, I got an email from Why Cycles saying as much. A small batch of bars apparently had a manufacturing defect so they've decided, "under an abundance of caution", to voluntarily recall their bars. Which sucks because I LOVE the bar.

Universal graciously offered me a refund for the bars. I used it to buy the Thomson equivalent, which I love and have on another bike. I just tried to save some money and try the Why bars instead. I have not taken delivery of my frame yet, so the Why bars (purchased Oct 2021) were never installed. The Thomson bars do have a higher level of finish. Who knows, both may be made in the same factory. I was disappointed that Why resorted to a carbon bar replacement, but not sure what else they could have done on their end. It must be difficult to make a titanium bar with varying diameter. I would also like to try steel bars, but I hate shims.

Hey there, was wondering if those titanium bars creaks when mated with an alloy stem? I purchased a Ti bar from Berm Cycle, and seems to be creaking like mad. Was wondering if it is a Ti handlebar thing.

Hey there, I think it depends on the stem. I had a Renthal Duo stem and it creaked in that one but it did not creak in a Thomson Elite x4 stem. Some stems appear to be stiffer than others at the interface. Hope that helps.

@@thewayofthemountains2450 thanks for the quick reply bro... I'm using a Renthal Apex stem with that Ti handlebar. Will try out my other stem, a Ritchey and a Straitline, and see if it still creaks. Thanks again

Jaysun, how were they compared to carbon for vibration absorption? Thanks!

Hey! I can't really say. I run probably the biggest foam grips on the market (Wolf Tooth Mega Fat Paws--cam version) and I think these grips go a long way in that respect. I think these grips go a long way in resolving a lot of issues, including hand and wrist issues. I will say that the compliance of the titanium bar is on par or even better than the carbon bar and of course the durability of the titanium is outstanding. I currently run the Why Cycles titanium bar for those reasons. Might be the last bar I ever buy. Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
