OMG This is genius! It explains it so well. I have felt this for such a long time and Sam has articulated it so perfectly. That is why I bought 6 acres of woodland and I spend most of my time there now. It feels real in nature. I have wood for fire, rainwater, solar (I am not technology averse) grow some food, self reliance feels amazing! EVERYONE needs to hear this. I love you Sam! Ha Ha P.s. It often pains me to recognise how social media really is infantilising. It's people sitting at the kids table thinking what they do has any real bearing on what happens on the adult table of authorities, corporations and legislators. I don't know if it was done on purpose, but it's an amazing power shift away from regular people.
The great irony is the algorithms taught people to be politically aware, whilst at the same time castrating true political knowledge or action.

Early in 2023 there will be a rollout of something called Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) were you will no longer have "hard" cash. Instead your wealth will be digitized. Every dollar you spend will be accounted for by the bank and they will know what you bought with your virtual dollar . It's frightening when I think of the ramifications. The CBDC is a tool by which we will all be controlled. I wish I was a hunter gatherer.

Only if we allow CBDC to take that control. There is a real need for people to react and continue using cash. To maintain control of money and retain their privacy.
Only a small fraction of people want this. I don't think they can bully or trick this just yet, sooner or later though...
Nothing like real life stories but they are so hard to tell , the pain and too long to tell and who wants to listen? Oneself understanding one's own self story I think? Is important.
When the first industrial cities in the world were forming in the UK, around 1830, the Victorians were aware of the dissociation of city life with the familiarity of country life that was known to the agricultural workers recruited to operate the machinery in factories.
They responded in two ways, firstly they created public parks which are still widespread throughout UK towns and cities. Secondly they established laws that required towns and cities to provide areas of land within their boundaries that were reserved for agricultural purposes. These parcels of land, known as allotments, which in many ways resemble the small-holdings of medieval times, can be rented from the town for a nominal amount of money. They exist to this day, in fact councils are required by law to provide them and some councils make special provisions for citizens with mental health issues to have preferential access.
I am an engineer, simulation has been part of my world for decades. Engineering simulation, known as digital twins, is being co--opted to create the framework that supports the metaverse. I am never happier and more at peace when I am in my allotment which, as you say, is the very antithesis of the metaverse. We grow around 50% to 75% of what we eat which also brings calmness into the family and has positive benefits for our health.
Oh this is going to end well. You can't get people to deal with reality as it is now. Now another place they can run and hide.

As architects’ brain-children become tangible buildings in which we inhabit and navigate...Similarly, economists’ brain-children become intangible concepts in which we must navigate for tangible things like shelter, food, etc.
I dare say that the above analogy is applicable to religious leaders’ brain-children, educationists’ and governments’ brain-children.
We, billions of us, are forced to inhabit and navigate the brain-children of about a million people who are architects, economists, religious leaders, educationists and governments. We already are in a zombie mind state...robbed of our creativity, autonomy and agency.
Enter the metaverse. Game over? Or game on?
