This wonderful chair was made by Heywood Brothers & Company, Gardner, Mass. The patent date is Jan. 7, 1873. This information was on a brass oval that connected the arms to the seat base. Yours were replaced by carriage bolts at some point in the chair’s history. Great chair, great restoration! Robert
I have seen three so far I've liked them all but yours by far is the most time-consuming detailed work of the three I've seen I'm going to watch the other two and see which one if any I like better than yours. I actually watched the three that I watch on this charity all the time I don't know about the other two that I can't recognize their names. But you know babe it's something I watch occasionally and I will let you know if I like there's better but like I said so far yours is like the best
Very very skilled artisan! That weaving...wow! Your dad must be very proud of you, you have learned well. You definitely know your stuff! And you have my respect for maintaining your cool with having to start over....!
What a beautiful result. I cringed when you ripped out the cane that was the wrong size. Kudos to you for carrying on like a trooper and sharing the mishap with all of us. It would have been easy for you to skip that, and we would never have known. You are a good soul, Trena.
I am blown away. This restoration was... indescribable! What this chair has seen in its lifetime; tired, worn, and broken, and now it's saying "Thank you for making me pretty again." You are such a stellar, meticulous craftsman. It was quite a challenge; I'm so glad you could "enjoy the process". 😉 Love your home and your view. What a peaceful comfy setting.
thats not just a redo ......THATS A RESSURRECTION !!!!!!! there would be no way i could have the patience to do that weaving... esp starting over !!!! you and ur family are amazing!!! and please make sure shop dog has plenty of re hydration to hold up on all the supervizing of projects going on , we would SERIOUSLY miss her!! i sure do miss ella on thomas johnsons channel ...thank you for everything trena !!!!
Well that was a monumental task, I had no idea you would be doing the weaving by hand, again you prove yourself to be a first class restorer and magician😅
Just finished watching your labor of "love", so nice to see you working with your father. He must be so proud to see you dig into a difficult project and then to witness your perseverance and the beauty of the completed restoration. Your mom is a trooper too even though you had to complete the caning on your own. Your home and property are beautiful. What a view!
We have a term we use in Australia for when things aren't going right... 'Bugger'. And just like the video from a few weeks ago. you should have given us a warning 'Viewer discretion required' . A few not nice things going on, even if some were only the sound effects LOL. 🤪🤣. What a transformation. And now the conundrum. If I give you all a thumbs up, won't I just be cancelling out the totals? You are all worth it. 😊
Well, the frustration had to go somewhere when the caning ran acropper! Your shop dog is the calmest one I've ever seen. Glued to your side. That chair looked great at the end. I hope the owner treasures the skills that went into saving it.
Fantastic job, and thank you for bringing this project to the competition. You reminded me of my grand father, I watched him many times weaving our home furniture back home in Cuba where I was born. Thanks for bringing him back as I watched you weaving.....😍
I almost began to cry when you said the cane was the wrong size! 😮 Yikes how disheartening. I truly felt your pain as you cut and sliced through all those hours with the knife. A necessary evil in order to complete the chair, but with added sadness knowing the time you spent. A stunning example of workmanship and skill from both the original maker and yourself. From Frankin to Fantastic! I say you win!!🏆
Thanks for this great job, it's so unusual to find artisans like you mastering all different crafts. You and Thomas Johnson are for me the best restorers in RUclips.
A good friend of mine was a furniture maker and he also did his own caning. He ran all of the power tools in his shop like a professional. The craziest part of the story is, my friend was totally BLIND! oh how I wish I would’ve been smart enough to know then what I know now. If so I would’ve bought everything he made. I was just too young to appreciate his work. I spent hundreds of hours watching him master his craft and his work was flawless! He passed away two years ago in his 90s. Your work is just as amazing to watch! Keep plugging away young lady!
Your craftsmanship is top notch. Your dad must be very proud of you. Awesome job and awesome video thank you so much for sharing. That chair is so so beautiful.
Wow! You called it, this was a Franken Chair. You did a stunning job. Congratulations to you and your Mother on the caining. Hours of work to restore a beautiful old chair. Thank you for sharing your work.
My father had Carpet & Floorcovering stores in the Tampa, FL area for most of my life as a kid and teen, his main office chair at his desk was this EXACT same chair! His was cane, on the back and bottom- and it was a bit darker overall, but same springs, same everything! Really cool to see it's brother or sister again!! OH! his had swivel wheels kinda like what you show in your video? not sure if they were original? He had the chair from the early 70's to the late 80's - and I remember it wasnt a new chair when he got it!
I didn't realise it was going to be a full hand-weave. What a superb result. Good luck in the challenge. It's my birthday so I'm going to binge-watch the others. I feel no guilt.
You dont take shortcuts. Working every little piece of that chair and doing a fantastic job. Quality work and it ended up such a beautiful chair, back to, and maybe even better than its former glory. Well done! Over to the next contendant, i just love this, what a treat for us furniture lovers that love to see good craftsmanship and repair of beautiful furniture. You all are great at what you do. Thank you for sharing!
Amazing work. So much talent your father has to be so proud of your work. Also I have to say that you’re the Marilyn Monroe of furniture restoration. Don’t tell your father I said that.
I expected that you would not succeed because the chair was completely destroyed, but the result was amazing. I congratulate you from Baghdad for this beauty
The look on your dogs face when started with the knife was awesome the important thing is that you can laugh at the mistake Stay safe and God Bless. That chair looks amazing
Fantastic work. I have very much enjoyed all 4 of this series of restorations. I'm not much help if it is a competition, I gave them all a like. Thanks for posting.
OH NO!!! I'm so sorry your cane was the wrong size!!! Such a beautiful restoration of the "Franken-chair"!!! Angie from Transcend Furniture Gallery sent me over!
I let my dog dry out too much one time. Luckily, Ace Hardware sells some really good dog putty. You can barely see the cracks. (Gorgeous work! And your home is beautiful too.)
Ah, that feeling when hours and hours of work magically turns into a few ounces of trash. 😭 Been there. Many times. But your final result is just gorgeous, as always. Great work!
Omg such fun 😮😮😮😮😮. This happens all the time while crocheting. But no knives are used! 😂😂. I feel your pain. ❤. Amazing restoration as per your wonderful high standards. I watch from Australia 🇦🇺. And look forward to every restoration.
Beautiful restoration! I so admire your patience! Thanks for sharing , I already follow the others so I’m looking forward to watching them as well! Hugs from Washington State!
Every video that you do just blows me away at the amount of work you put into each piece. The cane work on this piece was over the top. Thanks for another great video
Trena, that was lovely. Thank you. As for the cane issue, let's just say I empathize. My last "reassement" involved a hammer. It was quite therapeutic but it did require purchasing more appropriate items.
I am subscribed to your channel and the Transcend Furniture channel, but I will be sure to check out the other channels in your description. I am always amazed at the transformation of a piece from that seems impossible, to that looks beautiful! Another stunning restoration!
Jaaaaaaaaaa...Eres Genial Trena....Fue mucho trabajo..ji ji ji...El resultado es Maravilloso..!!..Una Hermosa Silla...Un Abrazo Linda Trena...Trabajas Muy Biennnn...!!!
I’ve always loved to take some old and dirty and clean it up. It’s just so satisfying to watch someone do the same with furniture, and do their very best. ❤
Wow Trena, what a beautiful job! It's just gorgeous. It was fun to visit with you in your LR, just pretty colours and what a view! Glad to have you back. Take care.
That's a gorgeous job, Trena! This chair and the owners must be so happy now. it's beauty and design really shines. On another note, it's so good to see you back. Apparently, nice pink nail polish doesn't travel well with a restoration job. Nice hair cut, really suits you!!
@@johnsfurniturerepair Never see nail polish or an amazing manicure on anyone who works with their hands in a serious way. BTW, I think you won the competition, although I voted for everyone. I think I understand why someone was tempted into using the leather seat 😂! Magnificent job!
Yes! Thank you!
Probably some other soul who ordered the wrong size cane and said, "Oh, heck no! I'm not doing that over again!" 😂😂
Been there done that and learned a great lesson. It happened and it may happen again. Lesson learned.
