Yeah it's a terrible the stuff I actually just finished doing two cars with it on.. one was so bad I had to pretty much work with the existing 2K clear and blend it in and reseal the parts I could get off a nightmare.. the spray Max is the worst one... its too hard... There's so many videos on it cuz people are just under educated and they just don't know.. these are just individuals that have done it to two cars 3 cars and never had to deal with it again.. not a professional who's done probably 10 this week..lol So they swear by but they have no idea about it.. I just did this on my mom's BMW 3 series and I'm pretty happy with the result! Looks clear, awesome. If I look real close I'll see some light micro scratches in some places and a few noticeable circular shaped scratches (just the perimeter of a circle). That's fine with me since I'm not a pro like you and it'll hopefully help my mom's headlight's output anyway. I think that the micro scratches might be because I didn't do the 800 grit long enough? Or maybe because I used a drill instead of a polisher, or a Turtle Wax plastic polish instead of the 3M version. I think the big circle scratches (which aren't too bad) happened because I hit the edge of a sanding pad on the bumper tore/bent it slightly, and using that pad caused gouges. You are so right about using a lot of tape. I wish there was an easier way to sand the very edges of the headlight because it is very difficult to without hitting the tape. It also took me 5 hours for some reason to do this. :O Thank you for your teaching!

Hey bud thanks for this video. What amazing timing! I just tried your techniques on my headlights yesterday with some inferior sanding discs and orange pad. My results were ok, needs more work but the technique is improving. I'll be buying those 3M discs in the future because the glue on the Chinese ones I bought started sticking to the headlight and created a disaster of a mess. @@Jay_Ira in my videos you'll see air duster it is posted in the bio directly to Amazon where I purchased it from.. being that it's just dust a fine dust and blows off about 90% of what is left.. after that I just use premium microfiber towel to wipe off any other dust I see that didn't get blown off which is minimal.. tastes like 60 seconds..
If you wanted the 3m sanding disc for just one car, you can buy the 3m ultimate headlight restoration kit. Comes with sanding discs, drill attachment, tape, headlight sealant. But not the orange foam pad or the 3m compound.

Hi thank u for the video i learnt alot however what speed is your ryobi on the numbers on the drill and speed of ur ac delco the numbers on the polisher (what rpms did u use for both i have everything in the video) peace
Literally by time you pull off... By time you're taking the tape off they can drive around and do whatever they want it's dry to the touch this is extremely fast drying substance which is perfect for headlights the faster the better because you are not in a sealed sterile environment like a paint booth when people are painting cars.. you needed to snap back a really fast the faster the better this particular product and let's say 80° heat will crust which is the outside layer which is the most important in 30 seconds full overall drying through and through and about 2 to 3 minutes... Fully cure would be about 15 hours.. but try to touch for driving or anything like that is fine.. I typically tell them do not wash the vehicle for 24 hours in the summertime or anything above 80° and the winter I give it 48 hours anything under 60°
Haven't stated it in a video in a while I'll keep that in mind for some upcoming videos.. But the reason is that although the Ryobi/and or drill will produce torque and 1700 RPM Plus it will nowhere near get as close as 7800 RPM Plus... To do high speed high power policy you need an actual polisher rotary the specific one is partially made for headlight restoration.. to get that Crystal clarity you need the speed which produces friction and the friction produces heat 🔥🔥🔥 So besides the RPMs the heat is one of the biggest deciding factors of clarity... There's no way you can really use one for the other properly...
Great Video!! Can we use the clear coat paint spray for sealant instead of Mequaire UV sealer spray? For some reason every year light gets foggy again don't know what I am missing. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
I have no idea my advice is to use this method... An actually follow the steps... I just see every single video but I posted which is multiple dozens they come out more perfect within the day they rolled up a lot or anything else you've seen on the internet or in person.. The light of that honestly what I would do is just follow the directions.... Exactly... As far as using some other clear coat if you can't make it work with this you're going to have a hard hard time with something else... This is one of the most user friendly products out there that's why it's the best it's not only can a professional like myself use it but an everyday Joe can very easy.

My question is regarding cleaning the headlights after cut polish before plastic polish, and/or after plastic polish before spraying with Maguire's UV spray........ Should I ? Shouldn't I ? My advice is to do exactly what is done on these videos.. don't deviate from the method at all or things will turn out worse... Question is extremely difficult to understand..lol But I can pretty much answer and by doing everything I do and every single video pretty much nothing else.. Rubbing alcohol is not okay.. it is a stripper and cleanser of the oil deposits that you just replenished.. this will lead to dryness under the coating, cracking, spider cracking ,fogging, overheating and much more... You do not want to strip the beneficial oils.. can you let us know where you get extra backing plates for your ac delco? having trouble since people are saying you need a specific thread size? not sure if that's true
It comes with a backing plate... It's only recommended to use a 3-in with this... I've never had to get an extra backing plate.. because I'll never need one.. I only use 3 in for it but that's what it comes with..
I checked and 3M discontinued the Lens and Hard Plastic Cleaner so I am assuming the Chemical Guys headlight restorer is the next best product?? Thoughts, advice, or another go to product you use??

Hey, great video again sir, are you running your drill at full trigger speed, it seems as dewalt turns much faster and I don't want to risk burning the area, maybe your controlling your speed with your trigger pull and it just looks slower, thanks for any info 👍
Yes it is probably a lot slower.. You don't want to use a higher end drill because the RPMs are higher and primarily and most importantly the torque is much much greater... You don't want to use more than 1800 RPM and that's keeping the drill moving constantly, but like I said most importantly I wouldn't use more than 600 lb of torque.. some of those drills will have 1200 - 1700 lb of torque and higher RPM.. I'm probably using between 1200 and 1700 RPM which your seeing on the video I better the trigger in different areas.. I would definitely check the stats on the drill that you have.. Better safe than sorry....

I appreciate you watching.. pretty much the customer can drive off so is your finished.. this product is the fastest drying product that I've come across hands down.. the crust meaning the outside of the product dries and seconds like 45 seconds 60 seconds forms a shell on the outside of the material and then the rest of it dries within about 2 minutes to 3 minutes.. then takes about 16 hours to fully cure.. but it's dry to the touch and ready to drive away within 3 minutes.. so that's the beauty of it it's going to be done drying way before your finish working..
I wouldn't do any Restoration in less than 35° temperature... Cold weather I would just keep everything above 35 degrees especially your spray coating... Simple things like putting it in your pocket can make a big difference...
7800 RPM for the AC Delco polisher. I don't have much experience with polishing but the Milwaukee M12 polisher has a max RPM of 8300. As a noob does that make much difference if I have easier access to the M12 ?
Well those are the main issues.... Taking probably three times longer to get to this level of achievement.... And of course as you said being a lot more tired... Also the fact that you're not going to be producing enough heat... I say this many times over the headlight material plastic in general are polycarbonate react heavily upon heat in friction... As far as the clarity... The 1700 RPM and the 7800 RPM I'm going to produce a lot of heat which is going to have you achieving that Crystal clarity... Wet sanding or even just by hand is not going to achieve that especially the polishing step.... Also believe it or not there's just some headlights out there that cannot be done by hand no matter what people are lead you to believe...(and I respectable time frame-not 5 days)

You are the professional and I’m just looking to do my own and not have to redo them every couple of months like I have with just polishing by hand. I also noticed on some of your videos you mix the 3M headlight compound and Chemical guys headlight restore. I found with just polishing by hand at the time of my test that Chemical guys C4 compound and P4 polish yielded a better result that lasted longer than the headlight restore alone.
All you need is the Meguiar headlights restauration, that's all. No heavyduty filters, drill, excavators, hammer, bla, bla, bla. I did my own headlights with meguiar and now are like brand new. No bs

Have no idea what you're talking about dude... I already told you if you want these results you cannot use it... It doesn't have enough RPM it's pure science... I say it on every single video I do the same thing and every single video.... You're focusing too hard on something that it's just messing your brain up... The polisher is like 10 times faster with only a quarter of the torque it's a different ratio is designed to produce heat.... Don't know what you're talking about on this video because I'm pretty sure I've never said that....... My advice would be to watch some more videos I don't think you're getting it.... You will never produce the same quality with a drill.. it'd be like running a NASCAR race with a Honda Civic.... It's not going to cut it...

To the last coat.... I'm pretty sure that entails that you did something wrong... You got to watch the videos and see if you did everything that I do correct.. one small variation will destroy your headlight restoration .. especially a double coat as it sounds like you did you're only supposed to do one double coat you should never double coat you will never see me on any of these videos double coating a headlight it's not the way the factory does it it's not the way it should be done more than one coat messes up how the headlights work and how good they look so you put it all on in one watch this video cuz I'm sure that's what you did it sounds like. Good question... You can never go too hot... But sometimes you don't want to spray it in direct heat when it's like a 110°... I wouldn't spray an under 30°, after 40 degrees things get a little bit weird it just slows down a little bit but wouldn't use any kind of heat , just air dry or forced air dry (with directional fans)... At these degrees of temperature the crust will still dry in about a little over a minute.. maybe a minute and a half.. which is still really quick..... Thanks for watching...

Believe me I've tried.. the AC Delco has way too much torque and extremely super way too much speed or RPM even at this low setting.. you could do it but it takes too much concentration because you'd have to barely touch the trigger... It's not a finesse type thing in a sense it's more of raw power... You would be extremely susceptible to damaging the vehicle far as eating through the tape also burning the headlight or producing prominent scratches are very deep scratches I've tried before a couple times it is not a good idea... Very good question plenty more videos up and running and plenty more to come...
Yes I have a couple times it's been quite a while.. this comes from delivering too much of one spot at one time and or primarily spraying too close you want to keep that 6-in distance.. Unfortunately there's no way around it but to let it dry for about 20 minutes then remove it and start from scratch... That's why you want to use the painter's method hit the outsides lay down a really thin coat barely anything and let everything else adhere to that and make sure you stop sometimes it takes a little getting used to.. But yes the best way is just to let it dry and start over it's very easy to remove which all headlight certified products should be because guaranteed you will have to remove it someday...
Well some pads can be used more than once depending on how much you use it.. I typically use one pad per light normally. One disk per Life of each grade except for the 3000 trizact this can be used multiple times no washing or nothing just water and use.. far as the discs once again just depends on how heavily use them.. I say partially used ones in a separate bag.. they still have life.. for instance sometimes I'm doing a whole night and I just want to finish off a little bit more and so go over one time and still have about 75% left on the pad/disk.... Just know the newer the disc the better it functions no matter what it is..

I would probably watch the videos closer I don't know how many of them that you watched but I would watch them closer on those areas that you're having issues with.. Make sure you're using what I'm using if not you need to investigate if you're using the right stuff in comparison to what I'm using...

Thanks for that! I'm using Gtechniq c4 coating to seal headlight on my civic and get about 1 year out of it until I can see it starts to turn yellow. Will I get better non-yellowing result with Megs coating?
Absolutely... His forms a shell and air dries from the outside in , this is literally the perfect product... Design for headlights.... Everything is listed in the bio..👍🏼
I would not use any direct heating source no UV lamps no heat guns or anything like that because it interferes with clarity and adherence... I used to try this but too many bad things happened and I was always unpleased with the result so I figured out it dries better with forced air or air drying... If you do use a heat element think of it more of a area heating like a heat lamp to keep you warm and the area warm but considerably far away from the light like a foot or more... The ideal temperature to do headlight restoration is 40° or higher... I would not do it anything less than 35°...
@@theheadlightrestorationpro I was wondering because I live in Tennessee and it's pretty chilly right now and wasn't sure if it would screw up the job. I have a couple of Dewalt work lights that are NOT led so they put off a decent amount of heat so I could possibly use them to warm it up to around 80°f. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I think the dry time on the spray at the end of the restoration would be quicker if it were warmer?
@govolsfightvolsfight2908 yes but area warmer is different than direct warming... One is like a room that is warm or a warm day the other is direct warming just the light you don't want to do that..... You want like an area to be warm even if it's not like a whole garage and can even do it outside it would be like in the general vicinity... But with this product and 80° heat will dry in 2 minutes crust will dry and 30 seconds so when you're talking about cold like 35°, you're talking maybe 5 minutes and the crust forming in one minute... Still not bad at all super fast.. but air drying is the way to go... It has to do with the chemical makeup it doesn't respond as much to heat as it does to air.. once again it's a chemical exchange or air exchange which is why it's drying...

@@Jay_Ira in my videos you'll see air duster it is posted in the bio directly to Amazon where I purchased it from.. being that it's just dust a fine dust and blows off about 90% of what is left.. after that I just use premium microfiber towel to wipe off any other dust I see that didn't get blown off which is minimal.. tastes like 60 seconds..
If you wanted the 3m sanding disc for just one car, you can buy the 3m ultimate headlight restoration kit. Comes with sanding discs, drill attachment, tape, headlight sealant. But not the orange foam pad or the 3m compound.

What is the best grit of sandpaper to use to remove deep headlight scratches
So after the clearcoat, how long before the customer can drive there car?
Literally by time you pull off...
By time you're taking the tape off they can drive around and do whatever they want it's dry to the touch this is extremely fast drying substance which is perfect for headlights the faster the better because you are not in a sealed sterile environment like a paint booth when people are painting cars.. you needed to snap back a really fast the faster the better this particular product and let's say 80° heat will crust which is the outside layer which is the most important in 30 seconds full overall drying through and through and about 2 to 3 minutes... Fully cure would be about 15 hours.. but try to touch for driving or anything like that is fine.. I typically tell them do not wash the vehicle for 24 hours in the summertime or anything above 80° and the winter I give it 48 hours anything under 60°

Great videos and very helpful. Not sure if I missed this but have you ever stated why you use the specific ryobi for sanding and not polishing?
Haven't stated it in a video in a while I'll keep that in mind for some upcoming videos..
But the reason is that although the Ryobi/and or drill will produce torque and 1700 RPM Plus it will nowhere near get as close as 7800 RPM Plus... To do high speed high power policy you need an actual polisher rotary the specific one is partially made for headlight restoration.. to get that Crystal clarity you need the speed which produces friction and the friction produces heat 🔥🔥🔥
So besides the RPMs the heat is one of the biggest deciding factors of clarity...
There's no way you can really use one for the other properly...

Great Video!! Can we use the clear coat paint spray for sealant instead of Mequaire UV sealer spray? For some reason every year light gets foggy again don't know what I am missing. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Rubbing alcohol is not okay.. it is a stripper and cleanser of the oil deposits that you just replenished.. this will lead to dryness under the coating, cracking, spider cracking ,fogging, overheating and much more... You do not want to strip the beneficial oils..

It comes with a backing plate... It's only recommended to use a 3-in with this...
I've never had to get an extra backing plate.. because I'll never need one.. I only use 3 in for it but that's what it comes with..

Hey, great video again sir, are you running your drill at full trigger speed, it seems as dewalt turns much faster and I don't want to risk burning the area, maybe your controlling your speed with your trigger pull and it just looks slower, thanks for any info 👍
Yes it is probably a lot slower..
You don't want to use a higher end drill because the RPMs are higher and primarily and most importantly the torque is much much greater... You don't want to use more than 1800 RPM and that's keeping the drill moving constantly, but like I said most importantly I wouldn't use more than 600 lb of torque.. some of those drills will have 1200 - 1700 lb of torque and higher RPM..
I'm probably using between 1200 and 1700 RPM which your seeing on the video I better the trigger in different areas..
I would definitely check the stats on the drill that you have..

I appreciate you watching.. pretty much the customer can drive off so is your finished.. this product is the fastest drying product that I've come across hands down.. the crust meaning the outside of the product dries and seconds like 45 seconds 60 seconds forms a shell on the outside of the material and then the rest of it dries within about 2 minutes to 3 minutes.. then takes about 16 hours to fully cure.. but it's dry to the touch and ready to drive away within 3 minutes.. so that's the beauty of it it's going to be done drying way before your finish working..

I wouldn't do any Restoration in less than 35° temperature... Cold weather I would just keep everything above 35 degrees especially your spray coating... Simple things like putting it in your pocket can make a big difference...

7800 RPM for the AC Delco polisher. I don't have much experience with polishing but the Milwaukee M12 polisher has a max RPM of 8300. As a noob does that make much difference if I have easier access to the M12 ?

Well those are the main issues.... Taking probably three times longer to get to this level of achievement.... And of course as you said being a lot more tired... Also the fact that you're not going to be producing enough heat... I say this many times over the headlight material plastic in general are polycarbonate react heavily upon heat in friction... As far as the clarity... The 1700 RPM and the 7800 RPM I'm going to produce a lot of heat which is going to have you achieving that Crystal clarity... Wet sanding or even just by hand is not going to achieve that especially the polishing step.... Also believe it or not there's just some headlights out there that cannot be done by hand no matter what people are lead you to believe...(and I respectable time frame-not 5 days)

You are the professional and I’m just looking to do my own and not have to redo them every couple of months like I have with just polishing by hand. I also noticed on some of your videos you mix the 3M headlight compound and Chemical guys headlight restore. I found with just polishing by hand at the time of my test that Chemical guys C4 compound and P4 polish yielded a better result that lasted longer than the headlight restore alone.

The polisher is like 10 times faster with only a quarter of the torque it's a different ratio is designed to produce heat.... Don't know what you're talking about on this video because I'm pretty sure I've never said that....... My advice would be to watch some more videos I don't think you're getting it.... You will never produce the same quality with a drill.. it'd be like running a NASCAR race with a Honda Civic.... It's not going to cut it...

From the gate spray method is more Superior by far the any kind of towelete or manual application..

To the last coat.... I'm pretty sure that entails that you did something wrong... You got to watch the videos and see if you did everything that I do correct.. one small variation will destroy your headlight restoration
.. especially a double coat as it sounds like you did you're only supposed to do one double coat you should never double coat you will never see me on any of these videos double coating a headlight it's not the way the factory does it it's not the way it should be done more than one coat messes up how the headlights work and how good they look so you put it all on in one watch this video cuz I'm sure that's what you did it sounds like.

i looked on line but could not find this answer what is the lowest outside temperature you can apply the meguirs headlight clearcoat? thx for the great video teaching session, plan on trying it if it isn't to cold outside to spray the headlight coating.....
Good question... You can never go too hot... But sometimes you don't want to spray it in direct heat when it's like a 110°...
I wouldn't spray an under 30°, after 40 degrees things get a little bit weird it just slows down a little bit but wouldn't use any kind of heat , just air dry or forced air dry (with directional fans)... At these degrees of temperature the crust will still dry in about a little over a minute.. maybe a minute and a half.. which is still really quick.....

Believe me I've tried.. the AC Delco has way too much torque and extremely super way too much speed or RPM even at this low setting.. you could do it but it takes too much concentration because you'd have to barely touch the trigger... It's not a finesse type thing in a sense it's more of raw power... You would be extremely susceptible to damaging the vehicle far as eating through the tape also burning the headlight or producing prominent scratches are very deep scratches I've tried before a couple times it is not a good idea... Very good question plenty more videos up and running and plenty more to come...

Have you ever sprayed the Meguire Spray coating and it ran in certain spots? How do you fix that oops?
Yes I have a couple times it's been quite a while.. this comes from delivering too much of one spot at one time and or primarily spraying too close you want to keep that 6-in distance..
Unfortunately there's no way around it but to let it dry for about 20 minutes then remove it and start from scratch...
That's why you want to use the painter's method hit the outsides lay down a really thin coat barely anything and let everything else adhere to that and make sure you stop sometimes it takes a little getting used to..
But yes the best way is just to let it dry and start over it's very easy to remove which all headlight certified products should be because guaranteed you will have to remove it someday...

Well some pads can be used more than once depending on how much you use it.. I typically use one pad per light normally. One disk per Life of each grade except for the 3000 trizact this can be used multiple times no washing or nothing just water and use.. far as the discs once again just depends on how heavily use them.. I say partially used ones in a separate bag.. they still have life.. for instance sometimes I'm doing a whole night and I just want to finish off a little bit more and so go over one time and still have about 75% left on the pad/disk....
Just know the newer the disc the better it functions no matter what it is..

I would probably watch the videos closer I don't know how many of them that you watched but I would watch them closer on those areas that you're having issues with..
Make sure you're using what I'm using if not you need to investigate if you're using the right stuff in comparison to what I'm using...

I would not use any direct heating source no UV lamps no heat guns or anything like that because it interferes with clarity and adherence... I used to try this but too many bad things happened and I was always unpleased with the result so I figured out it dries better with forced air or air drying... If you do use a heat element think of it more of a area heating like a heat lamp to keep you warm and the area warm but considerably far away from the light like a foot or more... The ideal temperature to do headlight restoration is 40° or higher... I would not do it anything less than 35°...
@@theheadlightrestorationpro I was wondering because I live in Tennessee and it's pretty chilly right now and wasn't sure if it would screw up the job. I have a couple of Dewalt work lights that are NOT led so they put off a decent amount of heat so I could possibly use them to warm it up to around 80°f. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I think the dry time on the spray at the end of the restoration would be quicker if it were warmer?

One is like a room that is warm or a warm day the other is direct warming just the light you don't want to do that..... You want like an area to be warm even if it's not like a whole garage and can even do it outside it would be like in the general vicinity...
But with this product and 80° heat will dry in 2 minutes crust will dry and 30 seconds so when you're talking about cold like 35°, you're talking maybe 5 minutes and the crust forming in one minute... Still not bad at all super fast.. but air drying is the way to go... It has to do with the chemical makeup it doesn't respond as much to heat as it does to air.. once again it's a chemical exchange or air exchange which is why it's drying...
