    I just did an 05 Kia Optima and an 09 Kia Rondo. The factory clear coat on the headlights is unbelievably difficult to remove! I was honestly surprised that it wore off in the first place. Similar to these on your video, the upper 1/3rd of the clear coat was missing, however the remaining portion was a real PITA for sure.

    Hi HRP, thanks for this video. I have two questions for you as I am preparing to launch my sideline project.
    1. Can you rate on a scale of 1-10 the difficulty in general of American made vehicles like Ford, GM, Chrysler/Dodge
    2. If Kia is the most difficult, is Hyundai in same category?
    Thanks!

    Wow Pro! Man great Job on those lights! I just wanted to ask about your spot repair and what sanding disc did you use to go back over it before using the tryzac pad. So basically you use the same method except using the 220 at the beginning and then start the normal process correct?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro

    Also Pro! On the 2nd hardest light the Mercedes Benz are you recommending that you use the same process like your doing here using the 220 or something like 320 to start on hard lights like BMW or Benz? or is this just for 2k kind of clear Coating?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  10 месяцев назад

      Even without the 2K you would have needed to start with a P P P P. ...."P" P220...
      JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW IT'S NOT A 220...
      Yes you probably would start with this but you always want to check first.. you should always check first to see if any of these lesser grits do anything before you just jump into something so aggressive.

    hey mate, I do not see people talking about hyundai headlights, I tried to do the method in a simple and small hyundai getz and I used 4 3m p500 for a single lens and didnt work, so I gave up as I didnt have the p320. Would be the best thing if you could do like a list with the harder lens that you`d start with the p320 and then to the softer. cheers mate

    Can you always skip trizact p3000 and polish after p800 wetsand ? If so maybe for me trizact p1500 will be bit more foolproof. After 3m p800 foam pad (double stuff like you call it). Does anybody ever ask you to do their tail lights as well ? To just freshen them up. What coating would you use if used or just wax maybe ?

      As you text this I was just doing a pair of headlights and tail lights on a 1987 Thunderbird... If you skipped at 3000 trizact it will not be as clear and I will be a hell of a lot harder to clean up.. the tryzac does the power of a 1000 grit a 1200 grit of 1500 grit with 1800 grit a 2000 grit a 2500 grid all in one.. that's pretty hard to replace...

    How do you know which headlights you need to have the hood up for and which ones you can do with the hood down?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  9 месяцев назад

      As a rule of thumb I have people pop the hood.. even when I needed or don't.. because it's less mess to clean up unless chances of mistakes far as messing up the hood some how... But basically the ones that by opening the hood expose the top of light... Some vehicles even if you open the door does not expose the top of the light...

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  10 месяцев назад +2

      You got to be doing something wrong.... You see mine on every single video.. you're doing something I'm not doing...
      If you're seeing scratches still applying too much pressure on the first stage but you're not cleaning up after yourself all the rest of the stages maybe not using the p800 enough or the 3000 trizact... I keep telling people if you see it after the finished product it was there before.. so you're not checking your work enough initially... I used to have a lot of issues with this when I was doing my best to spare products and milk every product I used instead of the spare no cost approach...

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  10 месяцев назад +1

      I don't use over p220.. you're telling me now that you're using stuff I don't use so will you have issues that's kind of on you..
      P180 is way too corse to ever use on a headlight...(I say this in many videos never go past p220)
      As you see in every single one of my videos I don't have issues with this you have to figure out what YOU'RE doing wrong.. you can say up and down on this all day that you're doing exactly what I'm doing but obviously you're not because you would have the same exact outcome.. people often stop looking for what they're doing wrong because they're saying I'm doing exactly what you're doing but in reality once again if you were you would have the perfect outcome as I achieve....

    What is the reason why you don't use a 3" Random-Orbital Polisher/Sander. Would it give you less chance of over-sanding the plastic headlight lens?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  10 месяцев назад +1

      No I've tried just about everything that one falls really short... It's very difficult to control on a lens with curves and dips and divots and fins and things like that... It doesn't give you the one dimensional grind.. it's very different and just holding the instrument feels very foreign when doing headlights.. believe it or not the best I've had of course is the drill although you have to have a mid-grade drill or low grade you cannot use a high-powered drill because of the torque in the RPM... Drills are much more focused.. for precision..

    • @briand.1694
      @briand.1694 10 месяцев назад +1

      Makes sense. I tried using my DeWalt corded drill after the batteries for my 12V DeWalt went dead. That didn't go well! It was very hard to control the speed and with all the torque, it was darting all over the place. I resorted to finishing by hand, and that took a while. • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  9 месяцев назад

      Yes it does have a different kind of texture it's very hard... Like indestructible hard it feels like at times... There's only so few things that people will put on a headlight that is that hard... The natural coating on this light is very hard from the factory similar to the 2K but I could tell if you see in the video visually different types of clear coat... Different layers different products one being natural from the factory and one being something someone sprayed over that once upon a time which a lot of people do cuz they believe it makes the headlight last longer..
      But I pretty much explain to the video how I knew....

    The 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee's are convexed and flat surfaces making the lenses hard to restore. This year was made by Mercedes so I would think the convexed lenses on Mercedes-Benz's are also difficult to restore.

      Mercedes is the second worst headlight to restore far as brand.. I'd always advise anybody who does Mercedes headlights to up charge it just for the fact that it is a terrible vehicle to work with.... As far as headlights....

      Yes some of these newer American vehicles are being coded by the factory with a really hard shit... The Ford focus is like that as well.... It's extremely unnecessary that almost as if they don't want you to restore them..lol
      Might have to go to a heavier grit...

    Do Hyundai headlights fall into the super hard category since they are kinda sorta related to Kia?
