- ■ BAO HA, VIETNAM: I felt like I'd been on the road for a week, yet it had barely been a couple of hours. Little did I know the today's journey had just begun. Up until 10AM riding around the villages and hills of Northern Vietnam is a cool leisurely experience.
That changes abruptly once the sun truly gets going. Luckily there are a ridiculous amount of things to see and keep your mind off of the heat along the roads.
For every time you stop, you must of course indulge in the peace pipe ritual the locals are so fond of with their unquenchable thirst for the strong tobacco known as thuốc lào...
I think you might have entered into the lore of some of these places. "Grandfather, tell us the story again about when the albino foreigner passed through."

Teach them English at young age or Mandarin. You either speak the global language or you can bang rocks on the side of road and let the future pass by.

The Buddha of Knowledge Michaels .. nearly all of them learned from school bro! Just a few of vietnamese people learn English by watching movie 😂 some Vietnamese have foreigner friends (uk, canada, austraulia ...) who support to improve their English skill. In video just a small village and you can’t find teenagers because maybe they’re learning or working at Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City etc.. but i think some one younger still speak English well
I like Harald's personality, where ever he goes he not only shows compassion for human being but also to the animals he is very kind and gentle 🙇♀️
@@lucky5609 Nothing wrong with eating animals, thats what we have evolved to do, especially people from colder climates. Veganism is unnatural and unhealthy. And it is possible to be caring and compassionate for animals AND eat meat, most farmers like and care for their animals, despite eventually butchering them for meat.

yeah you eat your quinoa nutritional yeast dha algi b12 fortified goverment slave food you try traveling round Asia vegan I did it for 2 months when I was brain washed like you and lost 25lbs of weight and nearly died I been through cambodia and malaysia ate only fruit for some days from hesitating real access to proper food, tried to cook as much home made stry frys as possible in guest houses, happy cow app was useless as it was nearly impossible to survive vegan, when really one year later I reflected on this experience and went back to animal products and remembered how strong and lean most these south east asians are, your best bet is Thailand and India they have loads of vegan places only thing is you eat that crap everyday your feet will expand and get gout like myself, vegans need to fast everyday to prevent these issues from happening unless your that one in a million people, just go vegetarian if anything its much safer for your liver
I love how in Vietnam they let you join into any work activity and always have a pipe. Such friendly people.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but this type of filming and narrating just drags me through the screen like I'm right there with you. You don't even have to do anything crazy, the first ten minutes you show how they extract the rice, you smoke some again and they teach you how to eat the fruit, but you make it so interesting! I had the same with the series in the Philippines (with Tim), this is really a gem on RUclips. So happy your movies were recommended to me a few months ago. @Tim timinny it's Laos tobacco had some with some local teens last year really smooth, after you take the smoke up you're supposed blow out the tobacco and then tip the front end up so the smoke pulls through. Good head rush :D

Thanks Harald for your free spirit adventure. As a Vietnamese -American, I have not got back to Vietnam. I left when I was 12 . My mom and dad are from Hanoi, and the story my dad used to told me when he was a little boy is just a mirror image of your back road adventure. The endless rice field, the water buffalo, my dad used to have one as a pet/friend, the country side people hospitality and the sunset. Thank you for sharing, and because of your video, I plan one day soon to go back with my older brother and travel just like you.
I've been watching the Vietnam Series all day and the thing I love most is that it is not Hollywood 30 second cuts and flashing for one thing to the next. You just stay on something and let us enjoy with you. This is the future of things I pray. Like going back somehow to early TV.

In peacetime they are hardworking farmers who always have a smile on their face to foreign tourists. but when my country is invaded, they are very good warriors. those men though they are not elderly. but I'm sure they've been through a war. It was the war against the Chinese invaders. this war lasted from 1979 to 1989. my country is having the longest period of peace in its history to develop its economy after periods of resistance against the most powerful invaders.

I had that once. Idk if it's the same thing as the cattle get but its a weird disease. Had small red dots on my feet and a soar throat. It was crazy how those 2 areas were the affected areas. It didn't really suck but I was very contagious so I couldn't work. You also get the disease from small kids. Which was weird that I had it because I have next to no contact with small kids. But my best friend also got sick with it at the same time so we were pretty sure he got it from either his kid or his kids friends and I got it from him.

The fruit you ate and shared with the Vietnamese lady is called in English, “Custard Apple”. The fruit comes from the custard tree the usually grows high upon mountainsides in Vietnam. Given the precarious areas in which they grow harvesting them is often difficult. Some utilize elaborate cable and wheel systems to transport them down from the high elevations making it easier than trying to carry them down the difficult mountain trails. As you discovered the fruit is very sweet and luscious but the juice is very sticky. Makes my mouth water to see you enjoying this delicious fruit!

People don't know what they are missing 🙌 Edit: The fruit is from a Magnolia. Much like Moringa or "Drumstick Fruit" which I believe you bought in a market in Sri Lanka, it is actually better treated as a vegetable in cooking than for straight eating.
