I can't quite put my finger on it, but this type of filming and narrating just drags me through the screen like I'm right there with you. You don't even have to do anything crazy, the first ten minutes you show how they extract the rice, you smoke some again and they teach you how to eat the fruit, but you make it so interesting! I had the same with the series in the Philippines (with Tim), this is really a gem on RUclips. So happy your movies were recommended to me a few months ago. Thanks Harald for your free spirit adventure. As a Vietnamese -American, I have not got back to Vietnam. I left when I was 12 . My mom and dad are from Hanoi, and the story my dad used to told me when he was a little boy is just a mirror image of your back road adventure. The endless rice field, the water buffalo, my dad used to have one as a pet/friend, the country side people hospitality and the sunset. Thank you for sharing, and because of your video, I plan one day soon to go back with my older brother and travel just like you.

In peacetime they are hardworking farmers who always have a smile on their face to foreign tourists. but when my country is invaded, they are very good warriors. those men though they are not elderly. but I'm sure they've been through a war. It was the war against the Chinese invaders. this war lasted from 1979 to 1989. my country is having the longest period of peace in its history to develop its economy after periods of resistance against the most powerful invaders.
I had that once. Idk if it's the same thing as the cattle get but its a weird disease. Had small red dots on my feet and a soar throat. It was crazy how those 2 areas were the affected areas. It didn't really suck but I was very contagious so I couldn't work. You also get the disease from small kids. Which was weird that I had it because I have next to no contact with small kids. But my best friend also got sick with it at the same time so we were pretty sure he got it from either his kid or his kids friends and I got it from him.
Harald, The fruit you ate and shared with the Vietnamese lady is called in English, “Custard Apple”. The fruit comes from the custard tree the usually grows high upon mountainsides in Vietnam. Given the precarious areas in which they grow harvesting them is often difficult. Some utilize elaborate cable and wheel systems to transport them down from the high elevations making it easier than trying to carry them down the difficult mountain trails. As you discovered the fruit is very sweet and luscious but the juice is very sticky. Makes my mouth water to see you enjoying this delicious fruit!
