- ■ TANZANIA, ZANZIBAR: After 6 hours of seaweed farming and angling for exotic fish in the Indian ocean, I devoured 4 sea-urchin gin shots for lunch and set out on the ocean floor from The Island Pongwe Lodge on my classic bicycle in the direction of Stone Town on Zanzibar's Western coast.
Deciding that cycling the same road I had come the previous day would be boring, I opted for a new route back. This change, or wrong turn if you will, added an extra 15km to what was already a 33km route. That's right, 48km of road to peddle during the hottest hours of the day on my classic, albeit increasingly frail sounding, bike lay ahead.
But the road would be paved, and hence an easier ride I conjectured.
Let's just say I conjectured wrong.... 🤦♂️

Doesn’t wear a helmet and rides beside a 3rd world hi-way with no bicycle lanes. It’s pretty edgy and rather unsafe.
The museum should include Harald"s magic bag too!

Think the best part of every video is how Harald completely ignores other tourists that he passes.
Stone Town is the birthplace of Freddie Mercury " I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike".
This Tanzania series was one of my favourites for sure. Such a cool place culturally, historically and you met some absolutely wonderful people (Faki, Mr Paul Scholes, those lovely fisherman guys at the Island resort.) thank you for taking us with you ! 👏

13 years in cycling, I could never do what Haraldo did on the journey. Ride a bike with only 1 gear, riding with a semi-flat tire and riding with a basket hanging on the handlebar. Haraldostrong

If you've never traveled abroad at least back in the 70s people's enthusiasm was amazing every place I went.
It's such a refreshing change to watch these videos on the ground with no scripts and filled with humour. I'm sick of the image we are being fed of Africa in the mainstream media. I'm 43 now and my entire life there have been adverts on TV trying to raise money and then they send a small fraction of the sums raised to Africa for water. This is real Africa, real people going about their lives. LOVE IT!
