Great hack to fix this. I found I can just unplug the high hat and spin the whole cymbal so I don't need to tighten just the rod. Also, thanks for the second tip on the cymbals too; I had to check mine, as one was spinning. Fixed!
Put some lock tight on it
I actually had my acoustic HH unscrew completely back in high school. Since then, I tighten the shaft on any stand, acoustic or electric, before a gig.
Jesus, get to the point
You think this is bad, imagine your mother waiting on your father to climax....I mean the end result was you! Depressing as sh*t.
🤣🤣🤣 Nice vid bro!@@PeterGoesINya
Dude.. you are a fucking lifesaver. It was pissing me off, and I knew it had to be an easy fix I wasn't noticing. Cheers mate.
new video is up - hidden drum sound of Pantera
I tried tightening it with the hi hat rod and it still spins. Any other tricks ?
that's what she said!
Once you screw down the hi-hat clutch, the entire thing acts like a wrench. So all you need to do is use the hi hat itself like a wrench (with clutch tightened) to screw down that central guide rod. Thanks for the tip!
This was extremely helpful, thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Yeah I’m having this issue as well. Hope it fixes the triggering issue with it currently not being very responsive. I assume I just have to tweak the settings once I get to this step. Another issue I’m having is extra hits around the kit, as if there’s a ghost hitting them and getting a laugh out of it lol. I literally just set this kit up 2 days ago so I’m sure I have a few weeks of screwing around with it right?
Perfect! This also helped with my issue where I really had to apply heavy pressure to make the hi hat “closed” voice. Even after fiddling with the tension adjustment. Thank you! BTW - would I look for a trigger setting to bump up the volume for when I go from open to close? I like to hear that distinctly but it’s very faint. Cheers! (EDIT: Yes, there is a setting for hi-hat foot that allowed me to adjust the volume for the hi-hat close voice).
Bro Petey. All your vids have been SOOO helpful in dialing in my settings bro. Good look brother. Rock on! I'm learning No one Knows- Queens of the Stone Age rn. Pretty easy till you get the the bridge. God damn Grohl is a beast. Fast Herta fills. Triplets between crash n snare (crash, snare snare 8x) cool fill but. Seems easy but it's tricky w the alternative sticking. The Herta fills are right before the lil bass solo. So fun to learn this song
Great info. That fixed it for me.
Glad it helped
I got A DW 3000 highhat stand And mine turns around and there's nothing I could do. It doesn't spin because of the 2 high hat plugs I did a light wrap-around and it keeps it in place.. But my high hat has full function all the way around it with no trigger misses
nice!
In addition to the rod tightening you suggested, I discovered that I had not screwed the choke into the hi hat enough to keep it taught, so I fixed two problems in one tonight. Good lookin' out, and always make sure the choke is secure on the hat trigger as well!
sometimes the simplest things go over our heads
Got the kit today and noticed this immediately. Your fix sorted it. Thanks man👍🏻
Drink beer, rock out and listen to Slayer..words to live by!
Hi @Peter GoesINya - BTW I became a huge fan of your videos. Have a question: did you by chance change the tilter provided by Alesis? Question has nothing to do with the spinning issue. I noticed that Alesis one somehow is "polished" in one section, while other tilters (for traditional cymbals lets say) are threaded. I particularly don't like the Alesis one but want to make sure I'm not generating wore to the rubber by replacing it. Maybe you have some experience on that. Thanks!
Nope. Have no idea what you just talked about. Just play those drums and stop thinking about it. Rock out to Slayer!
@@PeterGoesINya thanks for taking the time to reply, Pete! Oh, man: Slayer, one of my favorites... Check this out when you have time: ruclips.net/video/5XA-S7sSgl0/видео.html (a production with a limited budget, but this a good cover). Yep, I'm behind the drums :-). Cheers!
@@PeterGoesINya finaLly bought it. You are one people that eventually convinced me.
First time in 8 years owning a kit.
Assembling it tonight. Playing tomorrow.
Starting with some SoaD though, my doublebass is a little rusty I am affraid. Slayer Awaits
Listen to Slayer!
I had the same Selina e/ my Roland HH. Sure enough; you speak truth sir 👊🏽
Don’t know why it “autocorrected” to Selina 🙄 SPINNING w/ my Roland HH….
Hi Pete, Any recommendation for the best xstick sound for snare rim ?
no
Any problems keeping your e-kit in the garage? Is your garage insulated and/or air conditioned and do you live in a hot summer climate area? I'm getting the same kit soon and it would be better for me to keep mine in the garage, so I'm a little worried about that (I'm in Florida, so the summers are very humid- my garage ceiling and the garage door are both insulated). Great vids bro. Keep at it. Thanks.
I think you will be fine in the garage but that's just my opinion. So here's the thing...I live in Austin TX with brutal summers. I hit it hard and pound the hell out of it. No AC in my garage and I run a regular fan next to my kit. I lose like 5 pounds every time I am out there playing and always keep a towel nearby. It is what it is. Other than those hot summers, it is fine to play out there with no problems. I keep bed sheets over the kit while not in use and always wipe it down quick being a little OCD. I treat it like a classic car.
Just made a video about your question - ruclips.net/video/Csmg_J9BRdQ/видео.html
This dude is way more annoying than the spinning
I can be worse, you are lucky this is "tame". Imagine walking around daily in my head!
Bro such an easy fix thank you!!
No problem 👍
Has anyone tried both the SE and non SE hihats? Cause the SE seems to me like a downgrade from the original....
Who cares what it seems like, I can verify it is an upgrade for sure. Never had one problem and I have been pounding this thing for over a year now.
@@PeterGoesINya Yeah i mean the older one had more triggers right? In theory it should feel more natural...Have you also tried the old one or just this one?? I'm in the process of deciding whether i want to buy a used strike pro or a new strike pro SE since i can't find the non-SE available to buy anywhere :P I also have a friend that has the non-SE one and never had a problem with it while using it live at least 3 times a week for months...
Ok apparently you have not read anything at all about the old one and how bad it was. It was rushed out and had so many flaws including the HH......anyone who chooses the old one over the SE is well......challenged for sure. Why that would be a debate or questioned is beyond comprehension lol. Go buy it and don't say you weren't warned.
@@PeterGoesINya It's not that i don't want to follow the warning... I just want to hear from someone who have used both hihats using the latest firmware... It's not like i can correct my mistake if get either one and its not what i wanted :P Thank you for sharing your opinion, but again, have you tried both? I've searched the net for hours and i can't find a direct comparison between the 2 hihats using the exact same module and firmware :/
