Let me tell you right now that after 4 days of playing with that pedal it made all the difference in the way I feel about this drum set. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION.
Man, you can play. Thank you for putting this one up. All this time trying to dial it in not even know how to do it properly and the answer has been sitting in the corner of my drum room this whole time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Allen.
Could you explain then how the DM pedal connects to the strike module? My dad has the Strike pro SE and we’ve been trying like hell to dial in the hi hat and it would be awesome if a DM pedal is the solution to his problems.
I WAS WONDERING WHY MY $100 HI HAT STAND WASNT WORKING WITH MY STRIKE PRO SE.... i CALLED GUITAR CENTER AND SPOKE WITH REP ABOUT TRADING MY USED KIT FOR A NEW ROLAND. I AM HAPPY I SAW THIS VIDEO LOL I WILL USE MY OLD ALESIS HI HAT PEDAL NOW. U DA MAN
Holy SHIT! I have a DM-10 kit in the garage in a box. I was thinking about doing this but I didn't know if it would work. Thanks for the video! Very helpful.
Great video man! I'm in the market for an electronic drum set and I really like Alesis Strike series, but I've kind of read so much negativity around it, although I feel like a lot of it comes from either people that doesnt take the time to really know the product or Roland-Fan-Boys...anyhow, great video and your drum technique is simply AMAZING! Love it! Cheers!
Yes your're right. There are issues with the ride cymbal as many have had them go bad including me . Alesis is very good about replacing but I use the DM 16 in 2 cable model instead which is fine for me and i bought one for 149 and then got alesis to replace my 3rd strike ride with one also. I also use a pedal controller as ALL the moveable e hats suck imho. I love the strike and the only kit that comes close to the sound these days might be the new yamaha but theyre still twice the price. Roland sounds awful to me an not worth any amount of money. Also importing multisamples is HUGE anbd I have Slate and SD3 kits imported and mixed in and layered so I highly recommend the strike with the caveats I mentioned. I play my kit hours everyday and record regularly with it using the 8 outs and I barelty touch my acoustics anymore and I have an awesome acoustic set!
Roland Fan Boys! Good one! I've had a Roland TD-30 for the last six years and it was simply the best electronic drum on the market at the time. Now, Alesis has challenged this in so many ways. From how close the new kit plays to a real acoustic kit, to how many sounds they provide for us not only from the factory, but new sounds monthly. Needless to say Roland doesn't even come close to this. Roland, for all it's god given talent and ingenuity, failed to include a way to import any sounds to your module, and this is huge. I'm not here to give comparisons but simply to tell you that I'm a newly sold Alesis Strike Pro SE e-kit owner. Alesis not only came with and include a much larger library of sounds, but the constantly continue to provide more sounds you can download from their website. Believe me, For the money and the quality and quantity you get from this e-kit, it's hands down the one to beat in this price range. I got mine for $2200 dollars a demo and it looked every bit brand new to me. Only the settings were seriously jacked up. It took me all weekend to get them correct and sounding and playing right. I've subscribe to this channel and Allen is a reliable source for anything you need to know about this kit. Oh, and he's not a bad drummer....lol
This kit is amazing and with proper settings can be 99% of a real acoustic kit. I have a beautiful Dw kit in my studio too but I spend most of tine on the strike with absolutely zero transition pain from one to the other! It’s all in the settings!! Watch my midi ox video and then contact me on Facebook messenger. I can give access to my trigger settings and my user content. 15+ gig of awesome stuff
@@AllenLind cheers man I'll check it out. Yeah I bought the Alesis a few weeks back and got the DM pedal after watching this video, looking forward to it arriving

That sampled kit sounds great Allen! The HH sounds cool, though the only think I don't like about it is the "dull" sound coming from hitting it with the stick now and then, compared to the nice sound of hitting a miked up metal HH. It just doesn't have the nice high end sibilance as a miked HH cymbal. But your great playing makes it sound awesome!
You normally would not here the stick sound as these would be run direct to into the sound system or interface. I just happened to still have the room mic on so I could talk and forgot to mute when playing. Didn’t feel like redoing the whole video lol
Hey allen, I don't know if you could help me with this before trying to replace my bassdrum altogether, I just got my strike pro SE a few weeks ago and I've been having problems with the kick out of the box. It makes a really loud buzzing sound when I hit it, and it false triggers a lot. If I tighten the heads the false triggering gets better, but the buzzing gets louder. I have to set my retrigger and threshold to over 30 for the false triggers to stop, and I'm losing dynamics. Do you have some settings you recommend for the kick?
Love the information on the Hi Hat. Just as a side note. You throne squeaks a lot and you may want to spray some silicon on the joints to minimize the noise
Lol- we’ll I forgot to turn off the room mic for the playing examples .. hence the pad impact sounds too but I wasn’t going redo it lol! Thanks for the tip!!
Thank you Allen for this great video!! Really helpful, I want to buy myself a kit again, I used to play on an acoustic. Interested in buying an electronic kit. Is the kit loud without the kit turned on and will upset the neighbours if I'm just playing the sound in my ears? Cheers
Im sorry I missed this. YOu likely figured it out already but you know, hitting anything is going to make a sound.... Particulay the kick on the fllor. Just try to set up away from any common walls!
Hey man ! I’m going to definitely use your advice and try this out. I always have issues with the open/close sound not working half of the time. Thank you for this video. Plus, I hope you see my comment to answer this question: where did you get your cool looking bass Drum head ?? Is it mesh ? Can we use a normal head with art on it ? Thank you in advance.
Great playing as usual. I have a Strike Pro se on order. I notice when you play any doubles on the hihat , I am not hearing any cymbal sound only the stick striking the rubber hihat. Can you hear any articulation when you play doubles on the hihat on your end or is the Strike Pro se unable to articulate those types of strokes on the hihat?
Thank you for this. I get my Strike module today. I actually already have that pedal. Cool! I might ask you for some of your settings it you don't mind sharing. Thanks again.
I actually used a smaller rack from a dm10 mkll but you can get 3 to fit. Just experiment. The strike rack was actually too big for me so I put that together.
Damn, that was satisfying and very helpful. Thank you so much for this info, learned a lot, and sounded killer. I just picked up an Alesis Chrimson 2, I know its a way cheaper set and module but I'm hoping to dial it in a bit. If anyone has any tips let me know. Does anyone know if this pedal is an improvement over the Crimsom 2 or if it will even work? thanks
Sorry - just saw this. I also have a DM10 studio mkll which is the same thing and have it dialed in quite nicely. I use it for certain bar gigs etc and its great for that. Sensitivy, threshold and the head rim adjustment are im[portant! Play with thise and listen to what happens. Curce can also effect it but I mostly leave at linear but not on everything
HI! If you're in USA you can find them on ebay! YOu dont need to buy the whole dm10 type kit. Its same pedal that is sold with all the mnid level kits like crimson etc. Make sure its continuous! Otherwise people say the roland fd-8 or 9s work but I find matching the brad to brand works best.
Hmmmm. You have me thinking. It would also you the room that is handy for a double bass pedal to fit next to it without having to do a remote set up or two legged stand.
Yes! This works way better as a hihat pedal controller in your setup is way less cluttered and more room for all left side pedal placement! I use double kick and way easier to fit the double kick. I (used to) have a two legged dw 9000 and was initially using it with all the different piston controllers and just scrapped it for a small static boom and nice uncluttered left side! The DM continuous pedal ended the HH struggle for good
I'm, just trying out a Strike module with the DM10 RealHat Pedal, and I'm not getting good results. I get a very narrow range of opening/closing control - too narrow to be usable, and I get no splash sound whatsoever. I've played around with all the trigger settings, but no luck... I get the impression from the video that it was simply a plug-and-play thing. Edit: OK, I can get a splash on some hh pedal sounds, but only barely and not playable at all. The first kit "Big Bird" with its "Big Bird HH Pedal" wil NOT make a splash whatever I do. Could those who have the RealHat Pedal working with a Strike module share their settings or other info to get this working (the pedal works fine with the DM10 module, so it's not defect, also measure to 0-62 ohms)?
@@AllenLind It is the right pedal - there is a continuous range from closed to open, but it's so small that it's not possible to control it. I've also measured the pedal, and it goes from 0 to 62 ohms. I'm beginning to suspect that the hh control input on the Strike module is somehow damaged. BTW, I found that "Big Bird HH Pedal" does not have splash samples, so that one is a lost cause for splash testing.
@@Trottelheimer I doubt the input has an issue and it still sounds like you have wrong pedal based on how it behaves, Have you adjusted pedal curves? log 1 or linear on top and log 2 or 3 on bottom? The bottom curves effect the open close ratios the most. What hh samples are you using. That matters. Big bird does NOT have splash. Is you offset parm set set wrong? Even with changing nothing pedal sdhpould still work well
FYI - NO ehihat has very good semi open playing. Its all how the samples are created and the range the samples are set. Pedal curves help most but some people go into the strike editor and rearrange the zones. Thde samples you use and the curves matter the most. Sabian Reg 15, The 13s or the Paite giant 14 are excellent samples. Big Birds not
@@AllenLind Yeah, I noticed the difference in "splash capability" between the hi-hats. It's the right pedal for sure, exact same as you have there, just not behaving well. I'm a total tech head, so no problems with grokking the gear, this is just not working right for some reason. I've tried everything, from factory resets to endless permutations of trigger settings including offset. Been at it for hours, ended up using LOG 3 on bottom, but it doesn't help much because of the super narrow range, which I think is the underlying problem and which might hypothetically point to something with the input on the module, be it soft or hard -ware. With the DM10 module I get a fair range of controllable continuous opening and consistent chick and splash, so now I'm running a DM10 on the side just for the hi-hat :-)) Anyway, thanks a lot for confirming that this should indeed work 👍 I have another RealHat pedal coming, so I'll see how that goes.
Hi there. Can you tell me exact the model of this hh pedal? Because I found different models and some of them said to be not compatible with my alesis strike pro se
The cable that was in the flat piston Strike controller now goes to the pedal. The pedal becomes the controller and IT is the only thing that has to move. The cymbal can remaijn static and stationary. The trigger pedal curves also matter greatly,. I use exp1 on top and log 1 on bottom. They help with the stock controller too. I have used log 1 on top and log 3 on bottom too. These effect the open close and sounds inbetween. You need to download and read the user guide from the product page. There are SO MANY options in the settings you ned to understand them to get the best performance
Hi Allen. Thanks for sharing this! I can get the V2 Alesis DM pedal for less than half the price of the V1. Is there any reason the V2 wouldn't work as well?
Sorry - didnt see tghis. YOu likely figured it out but unaware of what V1 or V2 means. Only ythe DM HAT continuous pedal works and it has the 1/4 inch inline jack!
Can you please tell me what you are using to keep the high hat cymbals stationary? I see you used the DM foot pedal but what about the "stand"/ Thanks!
I mounted the cymbal statically and cut down the Alesis spin stopper so the top is flat and works with the HH cymbal. I have other alesis kitr (DM10) so I had some spares
Just using an gibralter Xhat atrachment that accepts a hihat clutch and a wide multi clamp. Spare parts I had but any x hat type boom and a standard rack clamp will do
I had a gibralter x-hat attachment and large clamp which attached to the rack. The xhat lets me still use the supplied HH clutch and built in spin stopper
Just take the cable from the “pancake” controller and just plug it in. The pedal takes the place of the controller unit on a high hat. The cymbal stays the same and you can either leave it on the hihat stand by itself or put it on a smaller boom stand on the rack to save space. It will make a huge difference, I promise.
@@AllenLind Thanks Allen. There are 2 cables. just use the main one. I am a guitar guy. I have the kit in my recording studio for drummers to use on my songs. BIG thanks.
@@anthonyterrezza oh it sounds like you have the OG strike with the 1/8 inch cable to. Yeah ignore that and just use the quarter inch. You only need the quarter inch one in the Cymbal as well.
@@anthonyterrezza One goes or stays on the cymbal and other to the pedal. Pedal replaces controller on the stand. Unplug from stand controller and plug into pedal. Cymbal itself only has one cable
Yes! All but the ride cymbal which IS an issue. I replaced AND also had Alesis replace with the Alesis DM pad 16 in two cable ride. Works perfect and is 149 new. perfect . Don't waste mopney on ATV or bother with unproven LEMONS from who knows where.... Also roland rides tend to be hotter and the bell now as good. I tried the CY15R. Its relegated to spare status
Not sure what you mean but trigger settings are global and not saved on SDcard. Otherwise All changes that are actually saved become “user” kits and are on SDcard. No changes actually are Committed to the Internal factory kits. When a factory reset is done it reset all your trigger settings and other potential menu changes
I have and sounded awesome but ITS A LOT OF WORK! my band is small time so I had to bring my own amplification for FOH and that meant Drums, Witres, speakers, Mixer, Monitor.... WAY TOO MUCH! Then covid hit.... Now I just use in my studio all the time and use a smaller DM10 Studio mkll for gigs
Its the DM continuous HH pedal. Comes with DM10, Crimson etc. It can be purchased separate on ebay for 60-80$ but make sure its the continuous model with the 1/4 in inline jack on the right side (NOT the 1/8 mini)
I don't get it. Why not just use real hi-hats on a real hi-hat stand? Nice drumming dude! Update: I was finally able to get the e-hats dialed in thanks to your other video. I bought the demo kit from Sweetwater and man were they jacked up. I couldn't figure this shit out and you were a big help. I'll see how long I can deal with the e-hats before going back to the real thing...lol Thanks again! Update: Wait, I don't want to go back to my acoustic hats. But I'm still having a problem with e-hats working or sounding right. I can't them to play/act like normal. They won't open fast enough and they keep skipping notes. What am I doing wrong? I've been trying different hat sounds and they sound awesome. I want to use the e-hats.
Its a waste of time. HIHAT stand was invented for one reason and thats to impact TWO METAL CYMBALS THAT ACTUALLY PRODUCT A SOUND TOGETHER. Its totally unecessary on an ekit! A pedal controller with a small cymbal arm attachment to the rack works 1so much better with very little tweaking. Its a cleaner setup too. THere is NO REASON to mix acoustic sounds with ekit in order to make of for perceived short comings . If you know what you're doing, its unnecessary to mix sounds
@@AllenLind You're absolutely correct sir. Keep in mind that I've always played on a Roland TD-30 and I'm new to this new Alesis kit. That said; I was going to the acoustic hats out of frustration and the need to just start playing my new e-kit. However, I was finally able to get them dialed in with your help and they only need a little more adjusting. Far better than they were before when I first got them, and now I've been able to appreciate all the new and cool sounds I can get from them. Not only that, they just don't look right, and like you sad, it just looks cleaner with the e-hats. It wouldn't make sense knowing that you can get so much more from you e-hats. I don't know what came over me aside from the immense frustration...lol One last thing I almost forgot. Using the hi-hat pedal you suggested is a no brainer. Check it out. I use double pedals and using this e-pedal I can place the pedal and the hi-hat top cymbal anywhere I want and not have to worry about cramming it up against my 2nd pedal. This is so much better and it solves all of your hi hat issues and then provides the much better placement. Way to go sir!
Dude nice chops very clean single strokes I bought an atv ad5 drum brain and I’m using diy pads and cymbals check out my covers they are all super short and low budget lol 😂
Alesis is slower, lets say 15 milliseconds (which I doubt compared to the Roland TD20 and Pearl Mimic Pro faster than Two hundred fifty-sixth note at 60 BPM. If the old Roland TD20 was 5-10 milliseconds and people were fine with it then the slightly slower speed on Alesis Strike should correct this problem 1.6 update
Latency in the module is irrelevant! I dont get why peoiple even vbring it up. I've trigger ALL majopr vsts from the strike with no issues. Latency issues come from your interface and speed of computer as well as the interal memory!
@@AllenLind I have to agree. I got a go edrum and it’s much better. Now I got a y cable to add a splash off of my tom 1. And holy shit I’m having problems.

Could those who have the RealHat Pedal working with a Strike module share their settings or other info to get this working (the pedal works fine with the DM10 module, so it's not defect, also measure to 0-62 ohms)?
Sounds like you have the wrong pedal. Dm hat CONTINUOUS!!!!
With the DM10 module I get a fair range of controllable continuous opening and consistent chick and splash, so now I'm running a DM10 on the side just for the hi-hat :-))
Anyway, thanks a lot for confirming that this should indeed work 👍 I have another RealHat pedal coming, so I'll see how that goes.
Quick question.. how do you Connect the Dm pedal.. wires that is ?
Just take the plug from the hihat controller and plug it into the pedal that’s it
Hi there. Can you tell me exact the model of this hh pedal? Because I found different models and some of them said to be not compatible with my alesis strike pro se
It just the alresis dm hat CONTINUOUS pedal! NOT OPEN/CLOSE!
Sounds awesome! But what is the set up? How does the pedal connect to the High Hat?
The cable that was in the flat piston Strike controller now goes to the pedal. The pedal becomes the controller and IT is the only thing that has to move. The cymbal can remaijn static and stationary. The trigger pedal curves also matter greatly,. I use exp1 on top and log 1 on bottom. They help with the stock controller too. I have used log 1 on top and log 3 on bottom too. These effect the open close and sounds inbetween. You need to download and read the user guide from the product page. There are SO MANY options in the settings you ned to understand them to get the best performance
If price wasn't an issue, would you get the Roland vad506 instead of the alesis?
NEVER! ROLAND SOUND LIKE SHIT
Does anyone know if the Roland fd-9 hi hat pedal is compatible with the se module?
People say it is but unless you already have it, its at least twice the price of the alesis but try it
Can you please tell me what you are using to keep the high hat cymbals stationary? I see you used the DM foot pedal but what about the "stand"/ Thanks!
He won't answer you. I ended up using a PDP by DW Concept closed hi-hat arm and a DW V rack clamp 9000 series.
I mounted the cymbal statically and cut down the Alesis spin stopper so the top is flat and works with the HH cymbal. I have other alesis kitr (DM10) so I had some spares
Great info,
you are using only the jack from the cymbal and not the controller jock and all works fine ?
you use only the controller jack! The symbol jack plugs in normally. The pedal replaces the strike controller piece
Can you use the strike pro se hi hat cymbal with the dm hi hat pedal? I guess just mount it on a cymbal stand?
THATS WHAT I DO! Did you watch that video?? Not sure which this comment is from but thats my whole point of using that pedal!
What hihat cymbal mount are you using please
Just using an gibralter Xhat atrachment that accepts a hihat clutch and a wide multi clamp. Spare parts I had but any x hat type boom and a standard rack clamp will do
Thank you appreciate that should be picking up a strike pro se tomorrow so will be doing this mod :)
Put some WD-40 on your throne post! Lol! Thanks for the demo!
Nah... lol
Allen , what are you using as the fixed stand on the hi hat?
I had a gibralter x-hat attachment and large clamp which attached to the rack. The xhat lets me still use the supplied HH clutch and built in spin stopper
@@AllenLind Thank you!
Striker here! Lol
How do you hook up the Dm 10 Pedal to The Strike pro se Hat?
@@AllenLind Hello Allen I have the Strike Pro SE kit The hat uses 2 1/4 TRS Cables..
@@anthonyterrezza One goes or stays on the cymbal and other to the pedal. Pedal replaces controller on the stand. Unplug from stand controller and plug into pedal. Cymbal itself only has one cable
Has this kit held up for you,I've been researching it,missed reviews, but missed reviews on everything I look at
Can I make and save adjustments to my kits that I've saved to my user kits,or can you only save them to SD card
Not sure what you mean but trigger settings are global and not saved on SDcard. Otherwise All changes that are actually saved become “user” kits and are on SDcard. No changes actually are Committed to the Internal factory kits. When a factory reset is done it reset all your trigger settings and other potential menu changes
Can you see yourself playing this kit live with a band ? or would this mainly be suited for just practise at home ?
I have and sounded awesome but ITS A LOT OF WORK! my band is small time so I had to bring my own amplification for FOH and that meant Drums, Witres, speakers, Mixer, Monitor.... WAY TOO MUCH! Then covid hit.... Now I just use in my studio all the time and use a smaller DM10 Studio mkll for gigs
Did you say you imported SSD sounds into your Alesis module?
How do you do that?
check these video, he provide good tutorial on how to do that ruclips.net/video/DaS9qog57OU/видео.html
Which dm pedal is that ? Thanks
I'll see how long I can deal with the e-hats before going back to the real thing...lol
Thanks again!
I don't know what came over me aside from the immense frustration...lol
One last thing I almost forgot.
@@josetamez6970 AWESOME BROTHA!
Dude nice chops very clean single strokes I bought an atv ad5 drum brain and I’m using diy pads and cymbals check out my covers they are all super short and low budget lol 😂
@9:28 solves low output issue for stock kits
Wanna sell either of your other controllers? I think my strike controller is broken or defective.
No - i'll keep as spares but they ALL suck!
@@AllenLind I have to agree. I got a go edrum and it’s much better. Now I got a y cable to add a splash off of my tom 1. And holy shit I’m having problems.
Can you Shoot in Slow Motion next time ...
Geeeeee
It was! LOL
I Like your stuff but up grade your camera HD at least...?
why, are you visually impaired ? It's the information that matters, it's just a home video
The camera ain't even that bad looks 🤣
