  • I'd never played golf before starting this challenge to learn in my ‪@aboutgolf‬ simulator for 1 year and then attempt to break 80 on my first full round outdoors. My ‪@StixGolfGear‬ clubs have been vital to my progression. After about 9 months of daily play, tens of thousands of balls hit, chunks, tops, shanks, and every other beginner mistake you can think of, am I still as pumped on these as I was when I opened the box? Or am I wishing I had gone to a name brand? Sit back and watch as I go into way too much detail on what I think is the best set of golf clubs for every beginner golfer and the vast majority of double-digit handicappers.

    These clubs seem interesting! I’m not in the market for clubs but do follow trends in golf! I play the PXG 0211XCOR2 6-GW love them, feel, distance, etc! Thanks for the review!

      The whole direct to consumer trend is pretty wild. I really like how Stix is purpose built to get more people playing the game with great equipment. The sizing is also very helpful. I’ve heard great things about PXG! Thanks for watching!

    I love my set. Im a long time golfer from Augusta Ga that now lives in Indy and has just gotten serious about playing. I bought the full set of irons at 50% off along with the wedges. I went back and bought the woods and the hybrid. I have an Odyssey putter and a Callaway Epic max LS driver and I love this set. Very forgiving and the look these have is amazing. Glad Iwent with Stix instead of one of the other direct to consumer brands.

      This is great to hear! Thanks for sharing. Clearly, just about every golfer in the world knows Augusta, GA, and I bet it's beautiful. I bet you fall in love with both the hybrid and woods, but you may be looking at shafts soon. It took me a long time to trust the draw bias and compared to the Paradym's I have, I always stick with the Stix outside of the range. And they really do catch they eye don't they? I don't quite get the spin out of the irons I would like at my point in the game, but the distance and forgiveness more than makeup for it. Enjoy!

    • @jeremyarant
      @jeremyarant 8 месяцев назад

      @goinforeit Augusta is beautiful. If you get the chance I would definitely go to the Augusta National. It is heaven on earth. I love the woods and the irons could use more spin but the wedges are spot on. As I'm getting older my swing has slowed a bit so the stiff Stix shafts are still working for me. I just have to work on a more consistent swing. All in all I can't believe more people aren't using these. I do get tons of questions about them though. Thanks for your videos! It's awesome to see your progress!

      @@jeremyarant thank you for watching! I always think about how I could show my progress better. I'll do a lot more on my swing over the next month or two. I hope to grow this channel big enough that I can earn a media invite to Augusta :). I think it has a lot to do with the DTC model, which is also why I wanted to go straight at the misconceptions at the beginning of this video. Golf is also a very ego-heavy sport (like cycling) where people have insane brand loyalty as logos seem to be some sort of status symbol. Clearly, the larger brands have more to offer, as they should, and if you want to boil club choice down to value to performance, Stix would be in many more bags around the world. This type of psychology is fascinating to me. I'd love to study brand loyalty in the human brain.

      Stix are really going to hit hard this year. Their new adjustable driver is supposed to be amazing! The lack of adjustability was the only thing that made me drop it a couple months ago.
      You are making the right choice making these your first set. I LOVE the putter, wedges, and irons to this day and I have major brand replacements for them in my garage. The forgiveness to distance ratio you get with these are unmatched. Take advantage of their 30 day trial and get what works for you. They will take great care of you. Great company.

    I'm looking at getting these as a starting set. Have you played with them on a course now to see how quickly it gets scratched?

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  7 месяцев назад +1

      You are looking at the right set! I’ve been on a few grass ranges and practice facilities. Sandy balls will speed up the wear process for sure, but the clubs I wasn’t in the bunker with show no signs of wear. I posted a photo of my PW on my IG account and you can see some wear from thousands of balls hit. I’m actually looking forward to getting on the course after the challenge as I chase scratch and putting some wear on them. I love the look of a good warn in iron.
      If I were you, I’d take advantage of their warranty and give the black ones a shot. If they start showing too much wear (which I really don’t think they would) you can swap them for the silver ones.
      Keep in mind they will for sure show more marks than a standard silver club. Even shows the ball casing on new balls.
      I’m also proud of my beginner marks. It’s part of the process, you know? I’ve got a solid top mark in my driver for example.

      @@goinforeit Thanks for the quick reply. I actually just pulled the trigger on them before I read this. Couldn't beat the 25% off deal I got for the 14pc. It only comes in black, but for everything else I compared for the price for full 14, this seems like the best value. Typically, I'd be OCD about the marks and maybe I will be, but like you said it is a sign of progress, so if I am playing enough to get the marks that is a win for me.

      @@gentooryan3459 Ha! I hear ya. I was the same for the first week or so, then realized they are tools and I wasn't good enough to keep them perfect, and that's OK. I can't wait to get wear marks like the pros.
      The sales and prices are nuts! Wait until you hit them and your buddies ooo and ahhhh quietly get jealous because you got rad clubs for a fraction of the price. The fact that offsets and lofts are setup for you is also fantastic.
      I'll get a photo post of the wear today for you. Keep an eye on my IG.

      Even $600 Stealth drivers have had their faces popping off, and my new in 2017 Cobra F7 irons had a problem with shafts snapping at the head where the tip was ground during prep for assembly.

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  8 месяцев назад +2

      @@mikeb3835 Yea, man. I find it hard to hold something like that against any modern brand unless it happens often enough to be an overall quality issue caused by a decision by that manufacturer to cut costs. The warranty then plays a large roll when those issues occur. If the brand takes care of you as STIX does, then hey, smiles all around.

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  8 месяцев назад +2

      @highplains8816 Yep, you sure can, and with STIX, you get to skip the firehose of info and the sheer number of available options. STIX makes the decision-making and fitting processes very simple for the new and beginner golfer while offering incredibly low prices for any options. Funny you mention the putter- it's been great.

    Did u have the graphite shafts initially?

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  8 месяцев назад +1

      I did. The steel was not an option until about 2 or 3 months ago. I think starting with graphite and only knowing graphite is why I chose to use graphite in my blind fitting at True Spec. I mean, clearly, I could see they were steel but I just did not like the feel of steel at all. When my clubs were getting re-shafted, I borrowed a buddies set of AP2's with steel shafts and couldn't even force myself to like them. I wanted to though! So much cheaper... lol.

    • @Devlins10
      @Devlins10 7 месяцев назад

      Ya I pulled the trigger and ordered 5 to pw graphite. So far I'm pleased. Took a bit to get used to the graphite irons cause always had steel. But once I figured then out the ball striking was solid. I'm a 11 hcp and these don't look like game improvement as much as I thought they would. Which I like. 😊.

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  7 месяцев назад

      @@Devlins10 I totally agree. I think they look great at address. I come from a world where carbon is king, so it was natural for me not to worry about Stix only having graphite shafts when I started. And as I learned about the trend to stay steel, I wanted to let my hands do the talking at the fitting. Stix nailed it with their irons, wedges, and putter. The driver, woods, and hybrid are wonderful for the new and newer golfer, however, as your swing develops, the built-in draw bias corners you rather quickly.

    As a beginner with lower swing speed (low 70s clubhead 7 iron) Stix [regular graphite] didn't work for me. Think I finally have a workable swing and could never get a high enough launch angle/spin rate (~13 deg/~4500 rpm).
    I did like having a box set for under $1000 for new clubs.

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  Месяц назад

      Great notes! Yea, these clubs certainly have a lack of spin compared to higher-end forged clubs. Which I don't find to be an issue for new golfers. I am surprised you couldn't get a higher launch angle with the 7-iron as it's quite lofted. I couldn't agree more on the cost. Amazing to have a full set for under $1000 that extremely out performs. Congrats on the workable swing! Good work!

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  7 месяцев назад +3

      Hey @childish2446 , you ask a great question. It's a bit of a long-winded answer, so I'll try to keep it simple. I'm a huge fan of used clubs, as they can be found in wonderful shape for much less than MSRP. The difficult part is finding clubs that are within your ability and fitting spectrum. After starting with Stix and purchasing some name-brand stuff to test next to them, the biggest advantage Stix has IMO would be the focus within their target market. If you are a brand new to mid-handicap golfer, you are getting into a brand new set that look great, are guaranteed to fit, and provides you with the best technical numbers to learn and enjoy the game. Golf is hard enough as it is, so controlling what you can control is key to the enjoyment, and Stix is built around forgiveness without sacrificing a clean look at address. And trust me, the distance is more than there. By all means, if you are a lower handicap or know exactly what type of club you should have in the bag, Stix may not be for that golfer. Which is why they keep their focus on the new and higher handicapped player. It's actually a breath of fresh air to not constantly hear 'tour proven', as most of us are not tour pros.

    You lost me when you said you’re sponsored by stix. Honest review goes out the window. Coming from a guy who used to surf and compete at a professional level and was sponsored by many highly known companies, I would never say anything bad about my sponsors, and if I did, it was only to my friends. Cause I wanted to continue to receive the free gear and such haha

    • @goinforeit
      @goinforeit  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yea man, me too. Except with cycling. I totally understand where you are coming from, and you know as well as I do that there are ways to state the negative without being disrespectful. While at the same time providing honest reviews. If the product was truly poor, you'd not give a review at all and do the bare minimum contracted promotion. There is also the level where you are able to pick and choose sponsors by vetting them before signing anything,. I also believe a good sponsor would not stray away from their athletes stating any respectful negatives in a review (No product is perfect). These topics can be discussed internally beforehand if needed. That also leads to the difference between stating shortcomings and unprofessionally bashing a brand.
      I've got stories about different logos on different products, swapping mechanical bits, solid Sharpe work, etc. Fortunately, there isn't a whole lot that can go wrong with golf clubs. If Stix was promoting these exact clubs as made for golfers of all abilities or tour-ready, then yea, we could have a whole different review. :).
      Sitx is a great brand that has a solid market focus and is run by good people.
      You did have me laughing at bashing to your friends. I can't say that doesn't have truth to it at times! lol.

    when they first came Out I purchased them and they played well. The black finish was horrible no durability at all. So I resently purchased the Perform seti black since they claim the finish is more durable. well guess what? its not, I only went to the range twice and played 3 times and the clubs finish is already taking a beating on the face and sole. '
    I may have made a mistake in shafts as the black shafts fimish mar easily from the clubs getting tangled in the bag.
    The bag dos not have full lenth dividers so I stopped using it to solve the tangle problem . Going to give it at least another practice and full round before I decide if they are going back. If you can get the silver finish and chrome shafts on the irons that may be the way to go.
    At the time of purchasing they did not have the Perform series in the silver finish.
    In terms of playability, The stiff steel fits me perfect. I did not find it whippy at all with the stock shaft. My swing speed with driver is 98-104. But I have a smooth swing not an quick tempo. swing.

      @goinforeit  3 месяца назад

      That is really great feedback, sorry to hear about the finish. Very cool that the shafts work well for you. You should reach out to Stix and see if they can swap your irons out for a set that may have a better finish or possibly get you a set of the silver when they become available. Their customer service is all-time.
      I hope the performance at least makes up for the scratches :)
