I'm not a total beginner, but I hadn't played a round in four years. So the Play series appealed to me big time. Great price and they take all the decisions out of it, which is fine by me. When I read that it was a good set for 99% of people, I was like okay let's do it. I had a hand me down set full of a Frankenstein mix of old clubs, so this was a nice upgrade. Took it out today for the first time, and boy it felt great. Very happy with my purchase. Good product at a good price for sure.
I've been playing with Stix for 3 years now and they've held up great! Definitely some wear and tear but I would recommend these to any new or newish golfer out there.
I stopped playing golf for about 25 years and just came back last year and bought a set of Stix from a recommendation to see if I still liked playing golf. They performed well, looked good, and were of decent quality. When I was young and broke, I had always wanted a set of Pings (Eye 2s were all the rage), so I ended up buying a full set of Pings shortly after realizing I still loved golf and would be playing a lot. Did I play better with the Pings? That’s debatable, but I certainly didn’t play four times better, considering the Ping set in total was nearly four times as much in cost. I do have a couple of complaints about the set, well, more nitpicks than complaints. The PW is 45 degrees. I wish they’d have made the wedges in 50, 54, and 58. I think that’d make the gapping transition into wedges better. I love the putter. It’s very well crafted and I’d compare the quality to that of $300 putters I have tried. Has a really nice milling pattern and weight. However, if this is marketed towards higher handicaps, I would’ve put a more robust alignment aid on it. Either a line that goes through the entire head or maybe three short lines? Lastly, it seems odd that they would drop the 5W and 5-iron. You’d think if anything, they’d drop the 3W and keep the 5W. Nitpicks aside, I’d recommend Stix to anyone who wants to save some money yet still have a quality, full set of clubs. Lastly, I’d get the chrome/silver (or whatever you call that) finish instead of the black. The black looks great coming out of the box, but the wear is more noticeable over time. Still doesn’t look terrible, but you definitely notice the wear more on those clubs than you do on my Ping set, and I’ve probably played my Pings four times as much (maybe that’s where the four times in cost comes in 😂).
I have a set of sticks, amazing play them every day the coat has held together really well surprisingly! I read a few months back they actually changed the paint that they used for the first few years to a more durable kind of coat. The only thing that is really bad is the wedges and that is to be expected with any wedges to be honest. the scratches and everything like that are more visible obviously because they are black. really forgiving one thing about them that not many people mention is that the 9i and PW are really boxy and square, they may look weird to stand over but in my personal opinion it really helps me for forgiveness it just looks a little weird at first easy to get used to though. All in all very very good set of clubs for beginners, these irons will be in my bag for a while.
i'd love to hear your opinion on the stix play series vs the callaway edge vs the lazrus set? I'm looking in that sub $700 range for 10-12 clubs w/a bag as a new golfer & cant find any unbiased reviews comparing them
Beginner beginner here.. since the play doesn’t offer stiff shafts would you recommend perform for someone with a fast swing? Appreciate the videos they help
Yeah if your swing speed is high enough to need stiff shafts, I'd go with the Perform. You'll have better results and definitely be able to grow into the clubs more.
"...especially for the price." The price is a thousand dollars. Maybe it's just me, but if I'm considering that price point, I'm considering an extra few hundred for a brand that's been around awhile. Not to say these aren't fine clubs.
They ARE NOT durable. The finish on the perform series wore off after two freaking rounds of golf. They DO NOT know how to coat metals. The clubs play very well but the shit quality of the black coating is inexcusable. I have a set of Black Head by Powerbilt clubs and the quality of the coating is exponentially better. The graphite shafts are WAY to light and flexible as well so I had my son fitted and we changed them out for Nippon Tour 115 series stiff shafts and they are next level clubs after the upgrade. Too bad they look like shit.

Thanks for the review. Like many value plays, these are a tough sell when you have the ability to choose previous generation models from major OEMs.
could you please review wilson's mens playerfit complete set and how it is compares to clubs like the stix's?
I would suggest if you are new to golf to get the 5w over the 3w
