Blackeye peas, since they swell when cooked, symbolize prosperity; the greens symbolize money; the pork, because pigs root forward when foraging, represents positive motion. Cornbread, which represents gold, also often accompanies this meal. Several legends exist as to the origin of this custom.

Everything looks delicious. And thank you for rinsing off the pork chops. Most people don't think to do that and don't realize it isn't really to "wash" the meat but to rinse off the bone shavings. 'Cuz nobody wants to eat little pieces of bone! Happy 2024!
Beautiful scenery in the beginning! Oh and you are beautiful too! It is tradition here in my family to have black eyed peas and collard greens on NY day. I have the peas in the crock pot. Cornbread and pork chops tomorrow with homeade honey pinapple salsa. Have a blessed 2024 and thanks for the video!

Thank you for sharing that beautiful sunset. It is so good for the soul to see and experience nature any way we can. I always tend to overcook my pork chops for fear of them not being cooked through all the way. I will try to cook them this way. Our pets are spoiled as well. I wouldn’t’ have it any other way. I agree with you on the nutmeg on greens. Fresh nutmeg. I don't like the already ground, do you? But, I don't like nutmeg in anything sweet, like apple pie, etc.

We call our cat the "in and out" cat. She literally comes in one doors, looks to see if what food I have out is suitable, if it's not, she goes to the other door to go back out.
