It's just not in the financial interest of apple.
But its not a user-friendly feature of the ecosystem It's an unnecessary but intentional downside.

Don't. Always bring it with you.
Never ever leave anything in the car. Only thing I’d leave in the trunk would be tripod and gimbal, even combined they’re about 2000€. Drone in a bag maaaaybe if my normal backpack is full and I wanna go shopping etc but camera and lenses always come with me
Oh and don’t forget gear insurance

I've been using Tile stickers and they've been really accurate in my experience. As far as I understand it, anyone with the Tile app, Samsung phones (?) and Amazon Echo devices all report your Tile's location constantly.
but don't they have non replaceable batteries? airtag batteries can be replaced easily (very non apple of apple to do that)
The galaxy smart tag would probably be better.

You can't roam around with a Mac to find airtag. Little does it have a gyro sensor. It's just common sense
Apple AirTags are better than any other tracking device in that category. The reason why, they are just so many iPhones scattered around the world, it gives it the best possible chance of getting found. As for tile, frankly they suck… Apple just hold the best cards seeing as though they can make all their new phones track the AirTags by default without the user installing anything.
Googles new updated find my device app(which has copied apple now,usually its the other way around) should use youtube for finding devices ,it would mean basically every phone in the planet is used for finding others things. what a network that would be.
Depends, other countries usually use android more so the Samsung tag would be better in those locations.
I love my airtags. I stick em on anything I can think of; my wallet, car keys, house keys, luggage, car, dog, my work laptop, etc
With that argument... Samsung is better.
A similar thing happeneds with AirPods, if you want to change name, button functions or use voice assistant you need an iPhone.
And if you don't connect them to an Apple device when you open the case any person around you with one can connect and mess with them.
And that’s how apple traps you in the eco system
the ecosystem is the reason people use apple, it works really really well, they have absolutely no match. The ecosystem wouldn't be this good without complete vertical control

I use PAJ GPS Trackers. They are more expensive and require a subscription, but you can cancel the sub when you don't need the trackers and reactivate them. I use the cheapest Finder One and it's been great. (UK and USA)
The way apple ruined tile was just spectacular.
These are worse than tile you can easily track people by placing them on someone or in their bag it's crazy

Tiles are better. They have a much bigger and more reliable network, they're cross platform, way cheaper, and much faster to react. Airtags usually take a minute to actually detect you're moving away, tile almost instantly does it.
But they have limited range, non replaceable battery and no exact direction arrow like airtag

to activate and to use the Apple are TAG the Apple air tank uses iPhones around it to make its location known so if there's no iPhones around it it doesn't woro
There's also the Samsung tracker that essentially works the same way tracking wise but using Samsung devices.
I think it's worth a video they're very good, even has a feature that Shows you a map of where it was each time it got pinged.
With the amount of apple products in the world you really cannot compete with AirTags.

You don’t need iPhone to log in apple id. U can log in android also.
The irony is the design of "AirTag" was stolen from Davison Design in Pittsburgh, I am the inventor and have proof Apple used tortious interference to breach the NDA I had with Davison to get my design. The man (Paul G Puskarich) credited with "AirTag" is the neighbor of the owner of Davison Design (George M Davison) and grew up 7 miles from Davsion Design and Development, where I submitted the design in 2004.
I had read that the AirTag only extends 30 yards so anything past that it won’t pick up but that apparently is not the truth so how does it work if you’re sitting in a plane and your luggage is over 30 yards away or you put an AirTag on someone’s car and they drive away 5 miles. How can you track them? It’s really difficult because there’s so much misinformation out there.
Air tags have lithium ion batteries and you’re not allowed to bring on planes so I would advise maybe using a tile or else

Not lithium ion, primary lithium (CR2032) coin cell. These also power common quartz watches and other little things, they've been around for 50 years and are safe. They are permitted to go into checked luggage since they are lithium metal cells (not lithium ion) and there's usually a limit of 0.3g on lithium while a CR2032 is 0.1g.

Samsung SmartTag and SmartTag+ work with current Samsung Android phones.

I'm an Apple fanboy probably at this point but I got my Tiles before the AirTags even came out and they're great honestly for finding stuff around the house. Like you can press a button on it and make your phone ring even on silent. The real selling point of AirTags is that every iPhone in the world reports your AirTag location.
Their credit card Tile is great as well. I love that Tiles are ready to attach to a keychain or whatever not just a smooth "coin"

Not a pro Apple user but What difference does it make ? It least Apple is offering it across 2 x devices … Samsungs smart tags r limited to their galaxy range only ! So if u don’t have a Samsung galaxy u have to buy one to use the galaxy smart tags
How could you forget about pebble bee and chipolo! They both sell tags that work with googles find my network!!!! Airtag and tile where not your only option! I know chipolo suports andriod fast pair not sure about peeblebee but pebblebee has rechargeable batteries the small key one same size as airtag lasts up to 12 months on a single charge and the larger one does 18 months!
You also need cell reception or wifi to activate the airtags as well. A problem I personally ran into.

The thing that I don’t like about AirTags is if you try to use it to track your car safe for example, you have a card and a lot of people want to steal like a Dodge charger or challenger and you hide it somewhere in the car when the thief gets inside of the car with an iPhone the iPhone tells them that the AirTag is in the car making it useless

I remember being shocked when I found my dad had an iPod Nano. I knew we never had an Apple computer, so I thought "How'd he get music on it without a Mac?". I never knew their was an iTunes client for Windows 7. That's kinda neat how Apple let people use their devices without ... requiring one of their devices! It's sad I even assumed this wasn't the case. Something like Air Pods' Max or freaking Air Tags would be insisting to anyone, but they've limited themselves to working with only the apple ecosystem (and not even all the way, funnily enough)

* That beep is the activation beep, now to track it u need to pair it with you iphone or ipad on your acount that u want to use.
Anyway, they aren’t all that. Useful when trying to find things near you. The beep is reasonably loud. However, when I look on the findmy app, all my AirTags are showing at an address few doors away. Is there a way to fix this? If not this is so stupid.

For the ones like "it's for iPhone" "that's what an ecosystem is" that's dumb takes because be more thoughtful if it was really just meant for iPhone or for apple only why would they still have an app for android versions? If an air tag is the best at its thing has more accuracy wouldn't it just make sense for it to be open to everyone if for example LG just made the best tv on the market but it's not compatible with my phone or anything else that isn't LG or needs an LG product to activate it even though I didn't even need that product now i have to waste money and buy that specific brand even though I don't even like or need most of their other products besides that TV now that's why that takes you apple fan boys are throwing out either don't make sense or it's really dumb.

@@marianko84 Why is this relevant to anything? Samsung Smart Tags only work with Samsung phones and are less reliable because there are fewer devices on the network. They're certainly not any better than Airtags, if that's your point. This is why lots of people have a negative impression of Android users, because of people like you that think they're superior to others.

It all depends on the place where you live. In us, could be that air tag has more devices around. In Europe, especially Eastern block I don't think that everyone has 1000 dollars to waste on phone 😉

I think you're missing the point. I just gave them $100 for these things. It is completely unreasonable to be expected to spend even more money on another phone because I apparently didn't give them enough money already.
I gave you the money for the fucking tags. Apples end of the deal is to supply me with a way to setup my fucking product.
These kind of practises should be made illegal and are the reason why I will refuse to purchase any apple product for the foreseeable future unless they drastically change their policies regarding the treatment of their PAYING customers.
