  • I got this little meter as a broken unit from ebay and show you how I found the faulty component and fixed the pretty interesting fault :). Well, it is a bit slow, the diode test voltage is not great and capacitance mode is too small, but still an upgrade to what I have to use at the moment ;D and I'm happy it has frequency mode. As a bonus there is a little tip for cheap test leads getting to work a bit better.
    Have fun :), foxxy.

    Thanks a lot for this! I had to already send back 1 of these to Conrad because I got the exact same problem as you described. Except my ohm meter doesn’t give 0.000 but it starts at a random number of ohms and starts counting up without actually matching the resistance connected. I tested both fuses with a humble self-made continuity meter made out of a transistor some resistors and an LED and indeed the 400mA fuse was burnt. Thanks for making me wiser.

      redcatimaging no problem, your video saved me from sending it back again and again blowing the fuse and never understanding why it does that. Keep up the good videos!

    I've blown that very same fuse on my multi meter before by not concentrating what I was doing :-( But a nice quick fix.
    Great video

      They usually are not that cheap, around 10 euro with shipping, but I was lucky to find a store where I got them for 1/3rd :D. Some people tend to turn the dial while measuring (not what you should do and sometimes there are ranges in between two switch positions) or just don't expect a higher current in uA/mA...so yeah, can happen ;).

    That was a really cool "repair". Great that you got it for so cheap :-)

      Thanks Potti :). I'm happy that it was an easy fix and I've something what I can really use now. Obviously I can't show the stuff I'm usually working on, but in the future I will try to show little repairs if they fit onto the table :). I sometimes do that for my workmates too :).

    Thanks for the Vid, dude. I've bought that multimeter very cheap (around 16€ shipped) with the same issue and i thought maybe someone had fixed that. So i am going to buy a new fuse tomorrow ;)

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging  6 лет назад

      Cool that the video helped you :). You can check if it is the mA fuse, if you temporarely bridge it with a little wire and just switch through the modes (definitely do not use it this way! and put a proper fuse in before measuring anything). I got mine a lot cheaper 😉, for 16€ I would probably have bought a new Aneng meter ;D. Good luck :). Cheers :) 😊👋

      Of course I've checked the mA fuse - it's broken. For test, i've bridged the fuse with a piece of aluminium foil :) Going to buy a new fuse today.

      Thanks Leon ;). I've repaired a lot of different stuff in the last years, but a multimeter was a first for me. I just guessed it couldn't be that hard, even without schematics ;). I was really surprised about the easy solution on this one 😊 ;).

      Just a fun little repair to have an update meter at work ;). Didn't expect it to be that easy :D. The tip with the probes is actually pretty useful to make crap work :). Thanks a lot for watching Bill, even it is not lock related ;).

      Actually a side part of my work, as the only technician in the lab, I have to maintain or repair alot of stuff ;). From relay controlled machine up to laser stuff...it's all there ;). I don't even have time for that, as my job is normally something else, but have to do it. Sometimes fun as the fault finding is often pretty interesting and you have to be creative on some repairs (no parts, no schematics, no money etc...), sometimes not fun ;). Thanks for watching Madhatter :).

      This is true, I often repair things at work and the easy things are definitely worth checking ;D. Once my car shop removed my foglights as they were not working...two years later when I was checking I found the fault..it was the relay ;D. Merry Christmas Tim 😊🎄👋🦊.

    Why you dont Check fuse in First!?

  • @park8023
    @park8023 3 года назад

    Fuse only add protection for current mesurement 400 to 500 mA fuse is for mA uA and 10A for Amp section.

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging  3 года назад

      Yes the fuse adds protection. But a faulty one can cause other faults too and checking them first may or may not solve problems ;).

    Sorry what is name of the yellow colour components?

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging  3 года назад

      I would say they are for input protection, should be a Varistor ( voltage-dependent resistor -> "RV") or so. The green one is a PTC, also for input protection.

    Hallo!
    Habe ich Aneng Q1 gekauft und continuity und Diode funktioniert nicht oder schlecht, beim continuity beebst nix oder zeigt 0.547 statt 0.000
    Hast du vielleicht eine Idee?
    Danke mick

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging  5 лет назад

      Das Q1 hab ich mir auch schonmal angesehen ;). Hmm...es ist immer schwer sowas aus der Entfernung zu diagnostizieren, aber ich kann dir ein paar Tipps geben, was du prüfen kannst. Auf jeden Fall prüf mal beide Sicherungen. Sie sollten damit nichts zu tun haben, aber man weiß nie. Ein Problem, was ich schon einige Male gesehn hab sind schlechte Lötverbindungen, oder ein Kurzschluß zwischen 2 Lötpads (hab schon richtige Lötbrocken in Geräten gefunden)...das ist manchmal so gering, dass du das kaum sehen kannst...damit ist auch Verschmutzung oder Oxidation gemeint. Hab neulich die Funk-Maus einer Kollegin repariert, da waren Oxidationsbrücken durch die ausgelaufenen Batterien (hab ich nicht sehen, aber messen können). 0,5 Ohm könnte schon irgendwie ne Brücke sein. Mess auchmal die größeren Bauteile (R, Dioden,Transistoren usw..). Manchmal sieht man so schon was, manchmal musste messen. Es ist auch nicht ausgeschlossen, dass ein Bauteil falschrum aufgelötet ist (gib mal bei google Aneng Q1 board ein und schau, ob alles genau wie bei dir aussieht)...gibt so viele Möglichkeiten, aber vielleicht hilfts dir ein bisschen. Viel Erfolg, du kannst ja mal eine Rückmeldung schreiben, ob du es wieder zum laufen bekommen hast :).

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging  6 лет назад

      Try changing your fuse (at least measure it), it might also be that you have blown your other input protection components (mov, resistor...maybe even more). Many multimeters do not like voltage on the continuity setting. Good luck :).

      I bought the meter defective, found the fault and shared it what I did. Sometimes a repair is as easy as this...I don't know what you think a repair is, but if a device is working again, then it is. Shame on you ;D.
