    I do my applesauce canning almost exactly like you, but a few yrs ago i discovered just quartering (not trimming cores, etc) and putting in my instant pot for 3 or 4 minutes on high pressure, then running them through my KA food mill. It makes really quick work of it. No waiting for boiling.

Am glad you had everything you needed there !!! I had a husband who peeled the peaches for me !!! So that helped me out a lot then !!! In that weekend bought more sugar & flour plus shortening for pie crusts !!! I grew up in Appalachia Kentucky. Canning and preserving foods was a natural part of our lives. We did this every year all of my life. I am very skilled on how to can or preserve pretty much any type of fruit vegetable or meat that you can think of. Now if you want something really yummy go to the dollar store and buy some red hots candies. Put one package of those in with 2 quarts of your applesauce and cook on the lowest heat setting until the red hots melt. After they are all melted you will have 2 quarts of the most yummy applesauce ever.

As kids i can remember my uncle when he wanted to teach us how to sing would tell us who sing the best would get the biggest one of what ever he was giving away. Funny we would all practice as we all wanted the biggest one.

    We eat unsweetened applesauce on its own with yogurt and also oatmeal. I use applesauce to reduce the amount of oil in baking

    I processed this much alone too this Fall! I made a lot of unsweetened applesauce, a little apple jam, dehydrated and froze a lot too. I was happy to see the bottom of the last box. I hope you have been well, I see you have been busy!

    I always wondered if you were supposed to weigh your apples before slicing and coring vs the whole apple wgt in the 10 pounds? What do y’all think I’ve never actually found the correct answer? Such a great buy!

    So glad to see you back. I was getting worried. Love this video because I have never made my own applesauce. You have made it look so easy so I am saving this video. God Bless Where did you get your food scale? I would love to get one.

    I don't have your washcloth for cleaning the KA screen and metal auger spring so I use a dedicated nail brush and it does a great job.

    Have you ever saved the cores and my peels or stuff you have left from running them through the food mill, to boil them with cinnamon sticks, for at least 24 hours? I then strain the apple water, add good vanilla to it, and make apple scrap jelly! "Waste not Want not" is my new motto!

    • @MennoniteFarmhouse
      @MennoniteFarmhouse  5 месяцев назад

      I probably have when I haven’t had so much work to do. I’m using one that says waste not want not.

    I can all my apples in a very light simple syrup. I used to make a bunch of different stuff. But I take the apples in simple syrup hit with immersion blender and makes apple sauce. Or thicken and make apple pie filling or heat slices and season to your taste and serve as a side dish . And I use my Apple peeler corer to make it go quicker.

      Oh and the peels and cores are frozen in bags and when I get enough for a stock pot I make what I call juke jelly . And if you have pear peels and cores they make a great combo. Waste not want not.
