The Japanese in those days would have simply killed every single human being whose skin tone was darker than a paper bag in response to this. Then they would have told any non Japanese inside the territory “you guys are next if you don’t behave.” “Man in the High Castle” sadly lost its believability in season 4 in its haste to wrap the story up. The show needed more time to resolve the story. In real true history, if we accept the pretense of the show (which I don’t but I can for entertainment’s sake) the “real” ending of the show would have been the end of season 2.
yup. I see no reason to believe given what we know of how the Japanese treated Chinese and Manchurian civilians. Add in Automatic weapons, they will have no issue doing genocide on anyone with a more melanin skin tone..
they also try and make communists the "good" guys, if the west coast became a racially based communist state 99% of the population will be begging the Japanese to come back. look how many people died in Russia for the revolution 20-30 million, look at china 50-100 million , there's a good reason the BCR doesn't cooperate with the other resistance groups, the other groups want to free the west coast, the BCR want control and ultimate power. they don't want to throw of the yolk of oppression, they want to be the oppressors. they're going to be the ones lining up ordinary people against the sides of buildings to shoot down in front of everybody if they don't obey the new rulers.

@@Cpt_Boony_Hat actually, historically speaking. The germans fought to the last man and it wasn't until their capitol was in flames and their leader shot himself that they finally surrendered. The Japanese surrendered before an enemy soldier set foot on their soil
to be fair the japanese were communicating through the soviets for possible surrender long before the bombs. the thing is, u.s. didn't want just any kind of surrender, they wanted unconditional surrender aaaand they wanted to see the bombs in action. @Darusdei @King of the Lilin The Japanese Empire was a racist and expansionist empire that needed to end. The nuclear bombings were the catalyst for the surrender. An unconditional surrender was necessary; American conservatives were already arguing to use Japan as an asset against communism. The freedoms & rights that Japanese citizens enjoy is a direct consequence of an unconditional surrender.
@@dio2702 The bombs are not the main factor. They already saw dozens of their cities burned by the incendiary bombs. A-bomb wouldnt make any difference. But the entry of Soviet into war closed Japanese empire any chance of conditional surrender and had to face with US unconditional surrender. That is why they have 3 B-29s Silverplate( 1 for scientific purpose, 1 for photographic, and 1 bring the bomb) on a small formation to delete Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I would argue Emperor Hirohito decisive action to surrender led to Japanese Empire surrender, although he realised it way too late.

Interesting replying to a two year old comment, when some of the stuff i am going to talk about happened after your comment was made. Thinking about he final fall of governments, and specifically occupying governments to resistance movements I'm reminded of both Vietnam and the US (and everyone else) in Afghanistan. The Viet Minh began fighting French colonial occupation in 1918, joined forces with the Americans against the occupying Japanese in 1942, saw their country handed back to the French in 1945, and eventually defeated the Americans in 1975. The final fall came suddenly, but it was the result of 57 years of fighting. Likewise, the US involvement in Afghanistan ended in less than a month, but was a result of 20 years of bitter resistance. What looks like sudden success often ignores decades of struggle laying the groundwork for that success.
@@Cthippo1 This rationale does not follow nor is even a close comparison. There was zero groundwork or any foundation for the BCR. You cannot compare them to the viet minh when the BCR were not mentioned at all nor existed in any from in any season until season 4

Japan in real life: [so fanatically devoted to victory that they have to be nuked twice before they finally surrender] Japan in S4 of this series: [packs up and leaves after one string of guerrilla attacks]
In real life the Japanese actually did put strategy before straight up suicide attacks for sometime. It was only later in the war when it became obvious defeat was inevitable that they chose to make enemy victory as costly as possible. Otherwise despite losing 4 aircraft carriers they would have commence an invasion of Guam regardless. That being said in the show the Empire is losing a war against a rebellion in China so it would make sense to withdraw and dedicate more manpower and resources to that theatre any way.
First of all, they got a fucking massive Asian rebellion that could have wipe the Japanese army if wasn't for the withdraw, they needed to withdraw from America in order to win the war.
Japan can't fight 2 massive wars at once. Considering, that Japan lost millions in Man in the High Castle's timeline, it makes sense that they retreat to conserve Manpower. All things considered, losing there holdings in North America is a minor loss compared to losing the whole Empire.
Why do people seem to forget that they’re already facing a massive insurrection in China? One that they’re losing at that and the BCR’s guerrilla (red dawn esque) campaign against Japan does not make the situation for Japan easier. It’s not a decision that came easy in the show either, literally took a assassination attempt on a member of the imperial family before the Emperor withdrew his forces.
I don't mind the BCR as a concept, it is honestly an interesting concept. A resistance group that has reservations about cooperating with the other resistance groups as well as the powers that be. But they feel rushed, sloppy and mary sueish. They show up in the final season, are better than everyone, scare the japanese into retreating after just 1 assassination and a bombing and fight off a full nazi invasion. And their negative aspects or aspects that could hinder their movement (like the fact that they won't operate with the resistance and even considered leaving resistance forces to die) never get fully addressed and it seems like the show may be unaware that those could be negatives? Idk, interesting concept, poor execution, could've been done better I feel.
@@seamusfinnegan1164 Yeah, meaning the Luftwaffe withdrew before the actual attack could commence. Therefore the invasion never happened. I get the technicalities, but the original commenter is framing it in a way as if there was a full scale battle between the Nazis and BCR.

I never read the books or watched the show, but I do have a pretty good idea of what the results of this kind of attack would have been. The Japanese army's occupying force would have come out of their cantonments shooting...everyone, regardless of non-asian race, man woman children. And the first units to run out of small arms would have fixed bayonets and just kept going. Sorry folks, that's what they did in China. No reason they would have tried anything different.
They were already struggling against china in the show, saying that they already captured manchuko and Korea so they don’t really have a choice but leave to save energy and since they view Asia as a more important gem it adds up to the Japanese hesitation combined with the increasing resistance to withdraw.
Japanese culture at the time was simple, either be assimilated or be annihilated. They cared more about adherence to Japanese customs and religion more than race. Whereas Germany was race first, then culture would be created from the most pure race.
Nope. They did that with china because china are inferior scummy dogs (which is a fact) and they hate the chinese with their whole heart. If we just let them control china and america wouldn't be a smartass we would have a peaceful, prosperous asia, not this mess of aggression that it is now.

I didn't mind the BCR in the last season, but there could have been a better explanation for their inclusion now. Perhaps The Resistance moved their forces into the Neutral Territory (as there was a bit of a jump from S3 to S4), leaving a vacuum out west, and now the small number of BCR fighters used that as a chance to rise up and start fighting the Japanese on their own. Honestly, it would have added just like 5 minutes to the first episode, how hard could that have been?
In this alternate reality, what happened to the dreaded Kempetai (the Japanese military police) that had historically kept the occupied territories under iron grip and made any guerrillas keep their head down waiting for outside help?
their grip wasn't so iron in real life. in Japanese occupied china, paramilitary and partisan activities never stopped behind Japanese lines, it was actually incredibly frustration for them and they only increased in atrocities in response which only got more and more normal civilians to join these partisan groups. this is half the reason why china alone held down like 75% of the Japanese army for years even while the Japanese had millions of collaborator troops from Manchuria and other occupied areas.
@@mxn1948 Compare the population of Japan to the populations of the occupied territories (Korea, Taiwan, much of Eastern China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore). @@mxn1948 US did go after the supply routes even in the neighboring Laos and Cambodia with airstrikes and even commando raids but it was not enough. Airpower alone at that time, and probably even today, can hurt but cannot cut the supply lines, especially of an asymmetric combatant. Sufficient boots on the ground are needed (sorry, commandos). That is one of the reasons Japan went after Burma. The real US problem in Vietnam was insufficient manpower. Standard US solution to that problem through alliances which provide cannon fodder did not work well enough this time. Additional problem was insufficient willingness to accept losses in personnel (compare to WW2 Japan). Fear of Chinese intervention (as in the Korean War) or a nuclear exchange was the reason the US did keep SOME gloves on (though less than what you seem to believe), but had it taken them off - the other side would too. Facing NFL, NVA AND additional 2 million Chinese soldiers with regular replacements would have been way worse and more humiliating than historic Vietnam. And in retrospect, with today's Vietnam resisting Chinese influence and actually forming economic and perhaps even some defense ties with the US in order to do so seems to vindicate that approach (compare to North Korea which did host Chinese troops during its war and in which Chinese and Russian influence is far stronger today, IMHO at least in part as a consequence of that).
Oh yes. Very much so! The army command even wanted to assassinate Admiral Yamamoto because they thought he was "too soft" because he did not want to go to war against the United States, because he had lived there while studying, and KNEW Japan could not win a prolonged war against the United States. Ironically, the plan he chose to go with was similar to the plan the Confederacy had in the American Civil War, to try and "Shock and Awe" the Union into accepting peace, by winning a lot of victories early. But both times, the Union suffered through the early defeats, geared into "total war" mode, and grinded their enemies into dust in two years!
The Japanese Navy’s fellow branch/ brother in arms/ mortal enemy the imperial Japanese Army. However there is no way in hell Japan’s leaving after this
Yes. The Navy wanted to attack the European Empires much later, after China was defeated and resources secured about the mid 1950s. The Army wanted to take advantage of the Nazi victories in Europe and grab what they wanted from the Allies in Asia. The Japanese like the other countries that allied with the Nazis assumed Hitler would win the war. This animosity between the two branches of the military continued until the surrender.
It was suffering massive casualties in China, if you watched the show you would know. Going to war with Germany is not something the already crippling Japanese empire needed.

Knowing the imperial Japanese from history the reprisal to them is not gonna be very good People don’t realize but imperial Japan was actually more brutal than Nazi Germany
@Skooma Cat The reasoning behind the withdrawal is actually very irrational to say the least. If you watched the series, a Japanese MC (Kido) was asked by the princess if they could hold the states, he said absolutely but would cost Japanese lives.
The BCR came from nowhere after half the cast was fired. The production decided to go woke, and this season is totally broke compared to the previous seasons
In real life the Japanese saw empire as a way to acquire resources and therefore economic strength. The army itself may have been fanatical about holding onto America but Japanese politicians would have realised that, far from providing economically, America was draining them. There is also the issue of distance between America and Asia. Japan would arguably be a lot safer by consolidating control of Asia and being more compact. Allowing the Reich to have the Western Hemisphere may mean peace between the powers and a harder fight for the Reich if they attack later. I think this is a fairly believable outcome.

BCR would've been interesting if it wasn't so rushed. The fact that a parallel universe Black America that is divorced from American ideals that failed them, a parallel world where there is no Civil Rights Movement is intriguing. The BCR leader had a point. Why would we go back to the American Ideals if they were so easily crushed under the boot of fascism in the last world war? That was the nuance of the scene where Bell was advising them to use the Stars and Stripes. They felt that White America betrayed them. I couldn't blame them for embracing the false hope claimed by Communism. I would have loved for the series to go longer. Wanted to see the BCR ally themselves with the American Resistance eventually, and all the ideological and racial tensions it comes with working together.
@@fritzyboi6390 Granting their own state under Marxist utopian ideals will inevitably turn it into a s-hole just like any country touched by this ideology in our timeline.
I disagree. There's two main problems here: 1. it sucks any hope for a resolution out of the series, because there is no "rejection of ideals," all that changes is instead of two, there's now three groups getting in on the ethnic cleansing. Seems like everyone has embraced the nazi ideology and nobody is left to contest it. 2. It is utterly inconsistent with how resistance groups under occupation have typically influenced culture. A real life occupation would have a unifying effect on all oppressed, it always has in every conflict in history. This could be a good source of intrigue. Instead, a hamfisted token plot is wedged in, papering over the real emotional experiences of resistance culture, and being so disconnected from (the viewer's) reality it doesn't even acknowledge genocide as a bad thing anymore as long as the right people are doing it.
Not really, maybe you could argue that for the real world timeline. But in this timeline, there Axis unnecessarily conquered the world and went beyond the goal of self preservation which is the goal of the BCR.
@Ryan Barnes Racial Nationalism isn't the same thing as Racial Supremacy. One side wants self-determination and the escape of oppression, the other wants ethnic genocide. That's a pretty big difference.
The biggest issue I have with the BCR is that if we look at how to show portrays the way the fight the Japanese, they should not even be a group. How does a group of a small ethnic minority manage to be such a thorn in a massive empire (don’t use the excuse that the empire was spread out because that makes no sense for this alternate history scenario, if you can conquer America then you can control it, by that logic the Reich should be having trouble with its outer territories as well). I could maybe find the BCR existing more believable if they operated in the Neutral zone but no, they operate in the empire itself so how they even exist is just beyond me. If Japan was struggling to deal with the BCR then just go back to reprisals (more specifically black people because I highly doubt that anyone other than the BCR would care too much about if they started to mass murder a small group of people). Japan could also just give them the land that they want and just purge them with no problem so why not just do that instead. Japan also somehow losing to China in this universe makes no sense either, China only had a fighting chance against Japan with the help of foreign aid from the Soviet Union and the US so with those two countries gone they could not take Manchuria or even get supplies ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE PACIFIC OCEAN. I honestly think the BCR is a good way to reflect certain movements in the 1960s but in order to pull it off correctly you have to have give these guys a proper explanation for there existence and make the characters in the BCR you know “characters” and not cardboard cutouts. I don’t believe “wokeness” killed this show I believe bad writing killed the show, unique ideas with terrible execution that’s all I have to say (I can’t believe I spent this much time evaluating this comment).
I think the number of targets hit was only half of what scared them, the other half is how coordinated it was...basically not only can we hit you, but we can do so in a HIGHLY organized and targeted fashion
In reality, colonial nations face more violent attacks and didn't leave so easily... As a french, I can give the example of France After a terrorist attack in Madagascar (1 000 french died), 50 000 people were killed in retaliation in 1947 (mostly civilians). And we didn't leave (only 13 years later). Hundreds of thousands people were killed in french colonies. France was not fascit at all, and less violent than Japan. Japan would never have left so easily.
@@aloys5961 You also have to keep in mind that in this timeline Japan is fighting a losing war against China on which Manchukuo and Korea have already been lost. So it makes sense to avoid another long drawn out conflict.

Some of this series historic oddities. Japan would of had no oil shortage. They took the Dutch East indies. In the US the Dutch company is called Shell Oil. But here there begging the Nazis for oil. The last season of the show was slapped together to end it. The Black movement is an interesting plot element but introduced to late in the show . But the idea that they would take over the West Coast is a bit far fetched. There would not be that many Black people outside of LA. Also people should not get to excited with the word Communist in the series. In this world the former US would see Communist as Allies because the culture would still be stuck in the 1930s and 1940s. No Cold War era . There was a Communist movement in California and the US because of the Great depression, which needless to say showed the failings of Capitalism . Many States today still have laws prohibiting third parties on their ballots .

And given the time period, most Americans with skin tone lighter than a paper bag would have helped the Japanese.
they also try and make communists the "good" guys, if the west coast became a racially based communist state 99% of the population will be begging the Japanese to come back. look how many people died in Russia for the revolution 20-30 million, look at china 50-100 million , there's a good reason the BCR doesn't cooperate with the other resistance groups, the other groups want to free the west coast, the BCR want control and ultimate power. they don't want to throw of the yolk of oppression, they want to be the oppressors. they're going to be the ones lining up ordinary people against the sides of buildings to shoot down in front of everybody if they don't obey the new rulers.

The bombs were also a show of force to show Stalin the might of the newly armed US.
@@dio2702
The bombs are not the main factor. They already saw dozens of their cities burned by the incendiary bombs. A-bomb wouldnt make any difference.
But the entry of Soviet into war closed Japanese empire any chance of conditional surrender and had to face with US unconditional surrender.
Besides, Japan is a great testing ground to use A-bomb, both as warning to ever hostile Soviet Union and calculating the effects of bombs on city. That is why they have 3 B-29s Silverplate( 1 for scientific purpose, 1 for photographic, and 1 bring the bomb) on a small formation to delete Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Japan in real life: [so fanatically devoted to victory that they have to be nuked twice before they finally surrender]
Japan in S4 of this series: [packs up and leaves after one string of guerrilla attacks]
Exactly
Why do people seem to forget that they’re already facing a massive insurrection in China? One that they’re losing at that and the BCR’s guerrilla (red dawn esque) campaign against Japan does not make the situation for Japan easier. In this alternate reality, what happened to the dreaded Kempetai (the Japanese military police) that had historically kept the occupied territories under iron grip and made any guerrillas keep their head down waiting for outside help?
Corruption from within.
their grip wasn't so iron in real life. in Japanese occupied china, paramilitary and partisan activities never stopped behind Japanese lines, it was actually incredibly frustration for them and they only increased in atrocities in response which only got more and more normal civilians to join these partisan groups. this is half the reason why china alone held down like 75% of the Japanese army for years even while the Japanese had millions of collaborator troops from Manchuria and other occupied areas.

@@afroartist1086 Racial nationalism is racial nationalism, no matter what color you put on it.
@Ryan Barnes Racial Nationalism isn't the same thing as Racial Supremacy. One side wants self-determination and the escape of oppression, the other wants ethnic genocide. That's a pretty big difference.
@@afroartist1086 That’s a very clever euphemism for what you are describing lol.
@@afroartist1086 they wanted an ethnostate on the west coast. What happens to everyone not of said ethnicity within that state?
And every intelligence service in the empire was asleep while multiple terrorist strikes were organised and carried out.
The idea of a BCR is ridiculous. Let's be honest they can't even take turns stealing TVs.
@ 0:44 was this guy from Midway 2019?
Yes
I like how this sort of parallels the Tet Offensive, or at least reminds us of it. I wish it was executed a lot better here
Ya know, I think that the BCR just committed a war crime
Tbh the Japanese would've smoked the fuck outta the BCR in real life. They'd probably make Nanking look like a fucking G rated movie made by Disney.
I don’t believe “wokeness” killed this show I believe bad writing killed the show, unique ideas with terrible execution that’s all I have to say (I can’t believe I spent this much time evaluating this comment).
this series is amazing
I think the number of targets hit was only half of what scared them, the other half is how coordinated it was...basically not only can we hit you, but we can do so in a HIGHLY organized and targeted fashion
In reality, colonial nations face more violent attacks and didn't leave so easily...
As a french, I can give the example of France
After a terrorist attack in Madagascar (1 000 french died), 50 000 people were killed in retaliation in 1947 (mostly civilians).
@@afroartist1086 And in our timeline the Japanese were losing the war in China, and in the Pacific, and still decided to try and invade India. So the point is kinda moot
@@afroartist1086 Correct. The Japanese were already bled dry holding their Asia assets. How in the world would they be able to occupy West United States? That scene was their version of the Tet Offensive. Many Americans stopped believing Westmoreland's emeny killed statistics were leading to victory after the Tet Offensive.
They all failed out of high school but pulled off this coordinated attack against Japan? Sure!
I like how china is like the only Allied force still alive in this world
i mean it has basicly infinit manpower ------ like 15-20% of world population was chinese
0:36 Isnt that Dr. Abrams from Chicago med?
Overwritten shows always disappoint in the end , too many characters, too many subplots and plots , we have seen this in this shows ending and GOT
also its lost its authenticity in the end i feel. Nothing looked plausible to me in a world where the Third Reich and the Empire of Japan would have won.
While there was a decline in quality for season 4, it still wasn't as bad of a decline as got in the last few seasons. At least the John Smith and Kido arcs made up for an otherwise poor season 4, can't say anything redeeming about the end of GOT.
The black matter resistence....💨💨💨👏👏👏👏👏😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh, of course they have to bring race into it!

Why did you put a time stamp on a RUclips comment?
It's kinda hard not to. You'd be ignoring a pretty big part of the world building aspect of this alternate history
This show portrays a world where ethnic cleansing and genocide is normal. The race card was the first one in the fucking deck
Should have given the bcr their "home". Once the bcr are all in one place they are an easy target.
Kinda ironic considering that in the real world, Japan actually at one point planned to ally with and instigate a Black insurgency in America.
Jim Crow would hate this.
I dont think they know how communism works xD
I don't think any communist group truly knows how communism works...
Thats the fact about all communist parties around the world 😑 They just make their own versions of it and and end up corrupt.
Skooma Cat exactly! This is dumb writing.

The axis powers will fear the true power of the resistance
In reality :
France killed 200 000 people before leaving Indochina
300 000 people before leaving Algeria, (8 years of war)
50 000 people were killed in Madagascar in retaliation of a terrorist attack who killed 1000 french (and we left 13 years later)

Nicely done
i love this show just because they use like all the worst forms of government they can. I dont know why but every time i hear "Black Communist Rebellion" it cracks me up it sounds like some shit South Park would come up with.
if this was real world japan, it would be a pure Japanese state everyone else would be wiped out
Not really, they just wouldn't have tolerated black resistance. Frankly no society would tolerate it.
The BCR storyline was the beginning of the end of this series.
Any one ever wonder what happened to Italy in this series
Ships as big as yamori cant be sunk by a few 1$ bombs wtf
majbe not like shown in the show but a good placed bomb can easily put a hole into the ship ---- and it will just sink
Japan:no one cant beat us
Resistance:ima ruin this mans whole career
nah, show got hijacked by SJW agenda
The Japanese retreated because BCR played the race card.
I wish BCR was stomped out of existence.

Anime that thinks the BCR was good clearly doesn’t know history or have any sense of knowledge
