@@raisingwings2913 thats because he clearly wanted to become a Psychic type Champion or at least a Gym Leader but after Opal found the "Pink" she was so desperately looking for in him, he kinda fused the two types together, thanks to the ever increasing number of Fairy/Psychics, he has a solid base for a full Fairy team

Even though Bebe isn’t the greatest jerk rival, I love the fact his character goes from annoying rich kid to caring tsundere. Plus his relationship with Opal is really heartwarming.
He isn’t rich. He just has massive respect for rose. Because he gave him a Pokémon.
Reading the info at the back of his league card gave you more Information about him.
He’s an orphan, usually got himself in a fight with other kids. Until Rose gave him a pokemon so he became a pokemon trainer, which open a whole new path in his life.
I also love the fact that he loves but despises Opal

I like how he evolve from a arrogant guy with self-esteems issues to a mentally healthy boy who's actually confident and sheers for his opponent.

Bede always put Rose over all things because that was the only thing he had, so he actually never thought for himself.A detail that I found interesting is how even being an asshole he never blamed his pokemons or from other people, just the trainers. At the end he's become a happier person because he's recieving some real affection(Thank you Opal, like Rose even forgot his freaking name) and can finally think for himself about his future, still dealing with feelings, but just look at those sparkly eyes that says everything. At the end of the game he's both a fairy and phychic trainer. Even if I enjoyed him a lot I recognise that he needed MUCH more screentime, kinda like Marnie( Hop had TO much) I hope we could know more from him in the future.

Kind of hoping for possible sequel story like black and white 2, though sword and shield have an expansion pass.
Kind of imagine the possible storyline; 5-7 years had passed since the Eterantus incident. Also this event might had changed Galar's foundations down the road. The region began seeking out alternative energy sources. Also the beginning is much more comedic than the generic getting your starter. The chosen protagonist runs out of the house in the new town/city to the train station, having overslept in this important day. He/She barely managed to enter the train, found a seat and read an article through the rotom tablet on this memorable league. This eventually progresses to reaching the stop and running towards the lab.
So much more memorable than the 'rivals' from X and Y

I'm embarrassed to say that I thought Bede was an edgy grandma for most of the game. I thought it was cool to have an old rival just to show that's it's never too late to become a trainer. I even yelled "move it, grandma!" on several occasions lol. This is actually a young boy. Mind blown.

Meeting Opal was the greatest thing to ever happen to him, despite what he says. He wanted to be useful, to be looked up to. Opal found a successor in him, and he gets to test plenty of people now. Like someone said, even though he lost his right to take the gym league challenge, he's still found a way to make his mark. And it's awesome how he starts off looking bored/disinterested, but after training under Opal, he's suddenly very into it. Loved the line "We'll show you a truly great pink. It's time for my dear Hatterene to Gigantamax!". He also seems very dedicated to showing the power of Fairy types :)
To be honest I prefer him being in the fairy clothes than regular one , also he's good character and I like him. I think his relationship with Opal could be like Grandma and grandson.
I thought Opal _was_ his grandma when I first looked at the SwSh cast.
Fun fact: Bede’s eyes changed to have a white light in his eyes when he became the new Fairy type gym leader. You can watch the transition at 23:55 - 24:04

Not gonna lie, this dude was fun to fight especially with that music.
I love how all the rivals synergize. Hop is the main rival who is persistent but helpful. Marnie is the cool rival who tries to act like she's not your friend even when she clearly wants to be. And Bede is the jerkish rival who acts stuck up, gets his comeuppance, and then becomes a more humble but still strong rival. When even Raihan is having trouble against the dynamax pokemon, Bede defeats all the dynamax pokemon before you even get to his gym.
Which is exactly why Bebe is the best arrival
I love the way he spins his pokeball on his finger when you're about to battle and the way he snaps when he gives his commands his whole attitude is cool and slick he's by far my favorite mean rival
This guy went from edgy gay to fabulous edgy gay and i love it. A trainer who is cocky and confident in his pokemon is a good breath after so many friendly rivals.
That is why I love bede so much he is the best character

After reading Bede's and Opal's league cards it got me thiking that maybe he is her grandson. For in Bede's it said he was in orphanage and Opal' said that she got the gym from her mother, there is a gap number between his(908) and hers(910) jerseys... maybe a missing generation... and everyone comments on how he looks like a granny; so maybe it is a family busyness

The only loss I feel like Hop completely did not deserve(and by that I mean it was the only one that I don’t think helped influence his character in a good way at all and also it was just stupid) was his loss against Sordward/Shielbert. Seriously, he had no reason to lose against them.

You know, it's such a small thing, but I really wish that at some point these rivals would actually take up the "Rival" Trainer Class again. Definitely my favorite rival so far. I love psychic and fairy Pokemon and something about snobby British antagonists crack me up. On top of this, his name means "Beet" in one language and "Gay" in another.
He's just an edgy, gay, British vegetable. I couldn't ask for a better rival.

I have a theory that bede lost his parents and is an orphan. Evidence for this is that after you beat him at the mural and rose disqaulifies him rose says "i am the one who found you" and "when you were all alone". Rose also states earlier that he gave bede his first pokemon. Its the reason he tries to please rose so much, rose was the only one who noticed him because he was alone. The reason bede acts so arrogant is because he was chosen by rose the chairman so he must be special. When you battle him in the league tournament he said he would retire as a trainer because if he is defeated he will just be forgotten and left behind again. But after the battle the crowd cheers him on and he is encouraged to stay a trainer. Realizing that he isnt alone anymore he becomes the fairy type gym leader

What I love about bede is really he never changed his attitude and cockiness at all. Literally that's my line of reasoning as to why his final battle theme was just his regular theme and not an evolved version of it like how Marnie and hop had one. It's wonderful we need more rivals like this to hate but also love as a character

I noticed Bede used psychic type Pokémon in our first battles so I raised a bug specifically to sweep his whole team. So I really didn't like that he became a fairy expert... At least Orbeetle is hella cool

I think that that’s what GF was intending with Bede’s design, and honestly I really like it, but I wish Bede didn’t just shaft his Solosis and Gothorita away afterwards.
M3G4 T3RR4 He had to since neither gain the fairy type whatsoever although it is likely he still has them and probably still uses them when not performing his Gym Leader duties since despite initially being a jerk he doesn’t look or act like the type of rival who mistreats his Pokémon.
Mario87456 yeah I know, it’s just sad to me that he has such a unique design that was put away for another design, even though the new design is also great. I also appreciated how he has always cared for Pokèmon, even Pokèmon belonging to other people. He doesn’t feel his pokemon are worthy to battle weak opponents, he respects your Pokèmon, which is why I appreciate his character so much. Bede is just such a good and well-written character, one of the best rivals to date, in my opinion.
M3G4 T3RR4 On the bright however we will be getting a psychic type specialist in the games dlc named Avery though he only appears in shield.

Golden Rose ya know what? That’s ok. My opinion is that Sword and Shield as whole are high quality games. And if you don’t like them, that’s totally fine. As long as we respect each others opinions, we’re cool. Because I actually the cast is excellent and that it had a pretty decent story.
