Super Idk what Sceylo meant but I assume they mean clinical depression when they say “real depression” as in the mental illness as opposed to “feeling depressed” which is more of an emotion we all go through. There’s a big difference between feeling temporarily depressed and actually having the mental illness.

I just love how each one understands Marina’s songs differently. Like, for me, this song represents the urge to be perfect in everything you do, but I’ve seen comments here saying that it talks about materialism. The thing about art is that it is open for interpretation, every point of view is correct. Also, Marina’s music uses a lot of metaphors, so there are lots of points of view. It is absolutely incredible! She is a genius!

I feel like people misunderstand this song and take the lyrics too literally. To me it feels like she's being ironic and it's actually a song about someone who's slowly losing grip of reality because of vanity and materialism - "if you are not very careful your possessions will possess you". Also her tone and way of singing seems pretty sarcastic too. Like do y'all really see Marina as a Kardashian with a superiority complex? This song is very much satire of the "monster" that is fame and money and how it changes people.

I think it's part satire, and part true. Marina was a very power-hungry woman in her debut, who sacrificed her mental health and social life on the altar of her career. It's an image of herself she has regularly and consistently expressed in songs, even on later albums where she reflects on how much she's changed. I do believe that part of Oh No! is sincere, even though it might be exaggerated to the point of satire. Interviews also seem to suggest this.
Maybe that's the beauty of art. Same thing can mean different to one another. Don't be like "my interpretation is the best one".
To me, it is about an insecure overachiever. Lyrics also comment on capitalism/consumerism.

After going all in time after time, pursuing success with my whole being, living my dream for a beautiful moment, flying too close to the sun, and plummeting all the way to rock bottom; this song just keeps hitting hard in the healing process. With each passing month I find myself interpreting it a bit differently, never quite sure what I'm projecting onto her words, what she's actually thinking, what is actually best to think, and how close or far any of those are to each other.

Also, for anyone who's seen Click, Sandler's character in that movie seems like a great example of someone becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy and that being bad. He declares his goal of success, and then it just happens, but of course he learns to regret taking the straight path from where he was to his dream of success because he never got to realize along the way what he was missing.

I think 'The Family Jewels' reached number 6 album somewhere (I don't remember where), 'Electra Heart' reached number one for a little while, and I think 'Froot' was also very successful :) I think that she did deserve more attention though, I'm so glad people are discovering her!!
