bought a 98 neon rt way way back in.... well 1998. new off the lot. Had dodge redo interior in leather - came out very well. engine developed oil leak at about 10k miles. my mechanic did me a solid and instead of charging me to repair it, informed me if I contact dodge they might cover it and repair. local dealership declined, so I called dodge HQ. if I recall correctly all they required was a letter and they had the dealership rebuild the top half of the engine free of charge. With that covered it turned out to be one of the best cars I have owned. Yes the engine was a small 4 cylinder but the car was light and handled like a dream. Took the car to open track day at thunder hill raceway - even my instructor was impressed with the handling. Sadly I wrecked the car after owning it for about 10 years, driving home way too tired. Watching your video makes me miss that car. In this day and age I wouldnt know how RTs hold up - no experience with a high mileage model.
as a side note cost was 13k or 13.5k (cant remember) plus licensing fees. that included the leather upgrade. I negotiated for 2 weeks with them to get that price down from about 15k I believe.
@@ericn4449 awesome story thanks for sharing! That’s exactly what my intention of these RUclips archives was for. My neighbor wanted like $12,000 for it initially and years passed and he finally came to his senses and I got it for like $2k and change. I only seen a handful of these ever on the road. Rarity is something I always chase and each of my current 8 cars have that.
My 1st brand new car was the last production 1999 black neon r/t with silver rally stripes with all the options including the powered sunroof, windows and 5 speed transmission. This car lasted over 25 years with over 250,000 miles
I have the same car just 2 extra doors on it lol..love it, never gonna get rid of it..im goin through the motor to freshen it up and go fast parts woooo
These were honestly great cars. Yes the build quality was cheap but the damn car was cheap. I think they were like $13,000 new. I had a 98 R/T that took the worst clubbing a 20 year old gear head could give it and kept on going. I traded it qith 150,000 miles and it still ran great and got over 30mpg. Handled like a fuckin dream. I miss that car.
I have a 99 Plymouth neon almost exactly the same besides the seats and the steering wheel i dont have the buttons lol. I am just starting to work on it for my first car so far i replaced the alternator, the brakes with brake lines, struts, tires and the fuel pump. It was siting for 5-6 years with out being turned on but it has 68,000 miles and the body is almost perfect. cant wait to show of my buddies. i may have the smallest car but ill smoke your ass
Seriously, where do you find all these mint, un-molested cars? I live in a MAJOR city and cars like these are IMPOSSIBLE to find at a good price (if you do owne is asking crazy price), seems you have the hook up, kudos!
LOL, you are very right, and thank you! They are very hard to find. It's nice to see someone else respect these mint cars as much as me! This one I got lucky with, it was my neighbors. For others I just search the internet a lot and make sure I am the first one to see it. I love the art of a good deal!
Jacob Marley I'm one of the lucky ones, I just picked up a mint (seriously, looks like a 2 year old car, but is 16) '99 R/T. 75,000 miles, runs fantastic. 15 years ago I had a 4 door Neon Sport that I used to flog the crap out of in SCCA, people were quite surprised at the little 4 banger 4 door. I totally forgot how well these cars handle. I am quite pleased. :)
The 1999 2 door coupe in black with factory duel silver rally stripes fully loaded are rare with it’s 2.0 duel cam 150hp engine. Great little car that was fun to drive
I need to find a coupe with that paint job I would put coil overs on it Bigger rims dual exhaust SRT swap preferably from the PT Cruiser little more horsepower h*** yeah But the big scoop in the hood While these busters are putting K24 in old civics and Acuras You can even add a Turbo and they still wont stand a chance like they didn't stand a chance back in The day
