i watched your video afrter buying my soundbar. i have none of these issues that you mentioned in this video. the soundbar is great, easy to set up and the sound is amazing.
I got the soundbar in July, not impressed with its sound quality for music but it is just ok for movies but I found the bass lacking. Is it ok if you share more about what you mean by the sound being amazing? What settings did you use? I am thinking of selling it to get the Samsung now.
@@BillyKueekSG there is no bass I tested one in the store and it was extremely disappointed. I could of live without the low bass but the vocals are terrible.
What tvs were you using them anyway I wouldn’t get a Samsung soundbar for a Sony or other tv when you aren’t getting the sound quality from them lol 🤦🏻♂️
I got the soundbar luckily i mever listened to the uneducated reviews, its got good sound and definitely has strong bass just ask my neighbours 2 doors down, had it half price with lg g3.
🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚨 Of course LG would get back to us AFTER this review was completed and uploaded. Below are their official replies regarding many of the questions/concerns raised in this video. ➡ Regarding the issues we ran into with respect to clipping and the wild volume swings between sound profiles. LG's OFFICIAL RESPONSE: "The 'Cinema' sound profile may provide a higher volume level and dB scale value for Dolby Atmos video content. Regarding your comment about clip or distortion at volumes between 95 ~ 100dB, we are aware of that, since the soundbar system's distortion limit is about 100dB." ➡Regarding the wireless subwoofer issues with respect to range. LG's OFFICIAL RESPONSE: "2022 LG sound bars feature an upgraded wireless module compared to previous years…rated for up to 31 meters (100’) of signal transmission. The testing room’s environment and obstacles may be a factor." In my opinion, while I appreciate LG's reply, their answers don't really address or explain what we found/saw and measured. We appreciate LG sending this bar for review (twice) and we look forward to their new soundbars in the future.
Haha funny... they didn't 👀 your another movie's? Always a same room etc so if another soundbars from different brand's works fine so whay they give so stupid answer ahh LG :( 😞
Seeing your room, which looks open and with few obstacles, I would have thought that signal interference wouldn’t be much an issue 🤷🏽♂️ However, and let’s be honest, LG messed up with this bar and the upward firing centre speaker looks like nothing more than a gimmick which has backfired. I’m sure Samsung, amongst others, will be laughing all the way to the bank.
If it can help 1 - The best feature of the LG is the clarity of the sound, I do not understand how you can spit on the quality or it excels! 2- You will inevitably test your sound bar with music, I strongly advise you to place the subwoofer on the right or on the left or behind you, where there is a wall surrounding it and test as best you can 3- You have your LG95, you start your music, and there, damn it lacks Punch! You melt on the spot. no worries, go to the app, turn up the bass to +3! (you can lower the subwoofer by -1 if you wish) and after that thank me! After all that I can say that the LG clarity level is excellent! The soundbar's Punch comes back to life! To conclude: I recommend this bar + for cinema / film where it excels, for music with the right settings it is the 🔥 even if we will find better I think in terms of "bose, sonos" music best Punch ! Ps: don't use the fu*** Music mode x Meridian! 😂
Interesting. I just recently got this soundbar paired with an LG C2 and I've had none of these issues at all. In fact it sounds fantastic....especially with Atmos (cinema sound effect setting). My only complaint is for the price, the surrounds could be a bit better.
Hi, I bought this sound bar with the LG C2. In the UK LG is selling this combination with the sound bar for 50% off. Also a 5 year garuntee at John Lewis. I was worried about your review, and tried to chance it with the belief I may end up exchanging the sound bar for something else later. Actually this combination has worked flawlessly. None of the connection issues or even the wifi issues some have mentioned. Centre channel is clear and not muffled at all. My room is 8mx7m. Maybe the sound bar needs to be paired the LGs a9 processor to get the best out of it 🤷🏽♂️. Hope this helps someone out there.....
I bought this is promptly returned it within a week or 2. I didn't experience any technical issues mentioned here, but the overall sound profile was all over the place. I also had to run for the remote at times to turn down when switching from different content. Its atmos performance was better and was quite immersive, but you can't watch atmos content exclusively. Ultimately, I went with the Q990B in the end. Out the box its simply more predictable and the sound profile is consistent and does't require much tweaking across various content.
I'm a professional installer and have been for the most largest install company with a catchy name. You can guess who. I've installed for 15 years. As far as soundbars go. Bose was the top. Then Samsung sort of took over. The Sony made a run. Once Sonos came put it put them all to shame. I hate having LG, Samsung and Sony soundbars because LG had issues straight out the box as well as Sony. Samsung always has delay issues. And yes I know you can adjust delay. I'm a professional. I'd you adjust deals for say cable, the sound for the apps will be off. The the bluray. It's a mess. Just get a Sonos system beginning with the Arc and make sure you have a super good mesh network like the EERO to hardliners your products as best you can.
Despite this review, I got one anyway. I didn't see ANY of the issues you have mentioned. Soundstage is incredible, setup was a breeze, and everything is flawless. Did you set up with Apple, or Android app version?
I just bought one not more than 24hrs ago. Paired with my LG OLED 77 C1 . Setup was simple. I find that the subwoofer is lacking bass unless you really crank up the volume.
Relentlessly high quality and authentic reviews guys. Thanks as always. I can't imagine how an upward CENTER firing speaker is going to improve the audio.
I don't know how much the new firmware updates have helped, but it seems to be much improved. I just bought it on sale at 999 for my bedroom. It obviously doesn't have as much clarity or crispness as my Wharfedale separates in my living room, but I wasn't expecting it to (cause...physics). That being said, for a bedroom system I think it sounds awesome. I had to spend some time in the settings tweaking things, but once I did I had an enjoyable listening experience both with music and movies. Even Bastille sounded great and he has a wide vocal range. I do notice dialogue is insanely clear in all content, even more than the LG SP9YA it replaced, which I know was a completely different experience than what you had. I don't know if that's due to the upward center channel or not. I know they had some pretty significant firmware updates since your review, so I can only chalk it up to that. Now it's not perfect, I did notice some boominess in deeper voices, but was able mostly tune that out with slight adjustments to bass and treble. All in all I'm pretty impressed with it for my bedroom. Sidenote, I couldn't go with Samsung cause I needed cast capability. That's what I use for multiroom audio throughout my home.
I own this bar, my experience with it has been phenomenal. I could not disagree with this review more. The only issue I have had was the app disconnections from time to time. I have not experienced any of these other issues you had. I can recommend some better music to do testing with though. I wouldn't listen to any of what you promoted, even in a elevator. 😂 My bar has been performing flawless with everything.

Guess this may be just my opinion, but let TV manufacturers focus on what they do best, and leave audio to speaker manufacturers? What are your thoughts?
Holy crap, how r u experiencing these issues, I had an lg sp9ya and just got an s95qr and absolutely beats the already amazing sp9ya out of the water and has no issues with being muddy or anything, the surrounds work very well and vocals are extremely clear and bass is super nice without being muddy at all, maybe u got early unit lemons but my unit is really good and I’ve also tried my friend’s q990c and i feel like the s95qr had a better surround sound performance
@@agnipictures the room correction feature in the app changed the sound profile entirely for me, i didnt do much else. I recently got a Q990D for a really good price and the q990d is quite a bit better except for music. The bass response of the Q990D is absolutely horrific with an insanely large crater at around 50hz as well as one at 300hz +-, which makes it great for movies with the insane bass and crystal clear vocals but music, mainly dolby atmos music is absolutely garbage, bass feels super uncontrolled and high bass is simply not there. Bass has no tight and controller punch like my previous LG SP9YA and the S95QR. I would only says the q990d shits on the Lg for surround dolby atmos movies but sucks at music
Another great unbiased review well done. I bought the sp9ya based on your recommendation and I couldn't be happier. I also added the spk8 surrounds and it's even better, a very good product overall, glad you mentioned it here too. Keep it up!
Compatibility issues I almost buy a Bose soundbar , good thing i read some reddit comments that is not compatible with LG TV. I ended up buying LG soundbar with my LG TV no issues so far
I just purchased the LG S80QY to match out LG OLED. I have been searching high and low for solutions on fixing the frankly bland sound quality. I’ve never experienced the common issue of low volume, but the very first night we powered it up, we were just disappointed in the sound quality. Honestly, the built in TV speakers sound just as good. We have all of the fancy settings enabled, along with the AI tuning, and the sound quality just sucks. It’s thin, unbalanced, and the sub only seems to kick on when the volume is set above 20ish with the TV sync option enabled. Just disappointed in it. I thought a $500 soundbar and sub would sound better than the built in speakers. I’m considering returning it…
I was feeling the same way and on the ledge of returning this product. I spoke to an LG associate at Bestbuy, and they recommended that I update my HDMI cable, which made a huge difference in my case. I purchased the Ocean 48 8k-10k HDMI cable from Bestbuy.
Sound mode share locks you out of most of the eq options in the app. Running just the soundbar, no wow orchestra bs, with the tv in pass through mode will give you decent results. Overall, I won’t buy lg speakers again, but my sc9s does the job.
Just for a different perspective: I initially bought the samsung to go with my samsung QLED, but the samsung didn't have enough bass and sounded tinny. Traded it in for the LG which I thought was a noticeable upgrade. just sounds richer than the samsung. (Both were extremely easy to set up and were basically plug and play. Both woofers connected automatically so no problems on those fronts from either manufacturer).
I wish she would have these thoughts and conversations with you on camera instead of watching you react to someone off screen, even if its just for a minute
I got the Bose 600, surrounds, and the sub 700 and it sounds fantastic in my bedroom. I'm now looking into a more powerful system for my living room so your reviews are greatly appreciated, thanks.
Thanks for giving us your honest review and thoughts. I also applied you for getting a replacement to make sure your review wasn't just based on a unit of 1 but making this the standards. Kristi, what do you think?
I had this sound bar for about 2 weeks , have to agree huge drop off for non Dolby atmos content . I went back to my A7000 with sw5 and rs5 rears much more consistent experience . I know you guys weren’t fans of that one but I find it to be very good as a package .
I was curious after this review and listened to one in store. You are right! It sounds like a muddy mess, almost as if the drivers are out of tune with each other. Horrible to listen to. Thanks for your review it helped save me from a disaster. I'll be going with the Samsung Q990c which sounded awsome on the floor.
This is sad that such a fantastic company can release such a lackluster product, especially at its $1800 msrp. You're totally fair to have high expectations.
I’ve been using this LG soundbar for almost 3 months and I’m glad I made the right choice. Best system to purchase in 2022. If you like movies, this delivers crisp sound and surrounds you on movies. Just install the app and calibrate the system on your mobile phone then you’ll feel a real movie theatre experience!
Was really surprised by your review. I’ve had this for a few months and really like it. Now I was coming from no sound system (just sound through the TV) but I’ve found it really impressive. I don’t use it a very high volume levels so maybe beyond what I’m using it for it falls off? Anyway, thanks for the review.
For people looking to buy this unit. My TV is several years old and the hook up was very easy. It is absolutely impressive. I haven't even configured it yet and the sound is phenomenal. You can really hear the voices crystal clear even at a low volume. Can't wait to configure it and get the full effects. This is an outstanding sound system. If you're looking to buy definitely go in to a store and hear for yourself. It won't be nearly as good as it will be in the home because of all that open space but don't let this review deter you from buying one. I'm happy to answer any questions.
Hello, i wanted to buy this soundbar, saw this review and was shocked...i can not belive this. I was very happy with my LG soundbar what i get 2 years ago. Now my Dad needed one and i tought i give him my soundbar to get the new one. Other Reviews were OK but this shocked me a bit. So you are very happy with yours right? I would play Ps5 with that, listen to Music and of course watching some Movies, the Bar is perfect for everything write? And last i like a lot of Bass (listen to RNB, HIP HOP) would you say the Bass is extremly punchy and good? Thanks in advance for the answers.
@@Microice17 Well, you have run it correctly. I use the AI sound mostly. When you get it, you definitely need to run the AI room detection on the app. From there, absolutely don't use faux surround or it will ruin the mix on most things. If I watch a Atmos mastered film I use the Cinema preset, likewise I use the Music preset for music. As far as most everything else I found the AI preset to work great. Music on the bar sounds clear, bass is punchy but not too over powerful, and everything sounds clear. The spatial audio from dtsX and Atmos is really where the bar shines the most. The middle up-firing speaker does a good job of making dialogs sound like it's coming from the screen and directional. It's a subtle effect but effective. The only issue I have had is the app on my phone losing connection a few times. As far as a overall sound solution it's a wonderful bar for everything I have thrown at it.
@@Microice17 With PS5 set your audio to Dts, then in the app turn on then Dtsx neuro. Thiis will give a atmos like upmix with any Dts standard content and it sounds freakin superb. I found it worked better than lpcm and Dolby with the PS5. Also don't use DRC in the bar. I'd turn on Imax enhanced as well. Always use Earc if your tv supports it. With LG tv's, integration with the bar is a perfect match. I use mine with a C9 oled and its amazing. Passthrough with hdmi 2.1 is outstanding, no audio delay with any format. The newer LG tv's even have more features t work with this I'd say, I did hear the A9 processing is a mark above. My C9 is first gen hdmi 2.1
I was strongly considering buying this to go along with my LG G1 - so glad you tested it for us before I wasted my time & $. THANK-YOU. I hate doing refunds.
@@bradhall4627 I trust his opinion wholeheartedly. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to. But I’m capable of making that decision on my own. Don’t have enough free time to do refunds with my busy schedule. Refunds make me cringe. There are definitely much better options.
I thought it was all me. I worked around fighter jets for a long years, I always assume it’s me when I can’t hear dialog. I’ve scrambled through settings and adjustments and when it comes to quality movie nights, I always end up frustrated. But man oh man, this thing can play kids shows like no other! Bluey and Cocomelon blast through the walls.
@@bacin87 total twaddle, it can’t do 120hz pass though or whatever it’s called. It only has 2.0 hdmi’s (the main one from the tv is 2.1 so that will do 120hz)
Looking for a sound bar to go with a LG C2 in the soon to be completed "man cave". Anxiously awaiting your thoughts on the new Polk Magnifi Max AX and AX SR sound bars given your positive review of the Magnify Mini AX. Thoroughly enjoy all of your reviews.
I have this and it worked perfectly out of the box. I upgraded from the SN11RG and the difference is night and day. I found the SN11RG would drop and crackle in Dolby Atmos content but this powers through. I can't imagine you for 2 faulty units in a row though. Very strange results.
I think so too. I have this soundbar, but a model without rear speakers. I got it at a good price. I chose this because I don't have room for rear speakers. Music sounds very clear and detailed. Bass is warm and dense, it fills an entire room. On AI profile I I feel each instrument coming from a certain position. However, I prefer the Music or Standart profile for music. Movies with Dolby ATMOS great. Like a cinema. Personally, I am happy with this purchase.
@@metodimollov8607 I'd never listen to music on the sofa. However I did test tidal for the Dolby Atmos content and was absolutely blown away by this system. I only use this for TV and movies. I have the rears too and I cannot complain. Seems there's some sketchy units being sent out to reviewers. I could not be happier with this system. Everyone I've shown has been blown away too.
The beosound stage has all upward firing speakers when mounted on the unit which helps make the audio sound as if it’s coming from the screen. I initially thought LG were going for a similar effect with their new soundbar, but they seem to have fallen short.
@@KristiWright Yeah it is awesome. I still have my one and use it everyday for TV, music and movies. I’m normally the kind of person who would upgrade things like soundbars regularly but I can see myself keeping this for a long time. I swear it sounds better today than it was at launch thanks to its updates.
Hi I enjoy watching your reviews, seems like you know what your talking about. I'm just wondering in your opinion is surround speakers essential if you want to feel immersed or do you think a soundbar can give good surround on its own? I'm currently looking at the jbl 9.1 and it looks good value for money.
If the sound bar has been designed to throw sound around the room without the need for surround speakers, then it is possible you will experience a type of surround presentation. We experience this with this bar bit.ly/3F8GhaR which we recently reviewed.
Thanks guys for the awesome review. I am an audiophile and I frequently listen to many different reviews but I really respect yours so I always listen to it last to kind-of give me the most balanced and fair opinion. I also like how Kristi always has her independent opinion. Love it when she also has a different view and really brings out her opinion to contrast and share. Its absolutely awesome :) For this bar, I guess sometimes newer is not necessarily better. Would love to hear your views on the the JBL 1000 when you eventually get it. I'd like to ask a question if that's okay. When turning the volume up on a soundbar or speaker, keeping it at 90% volume for say 10 minutes and then turning it back down to 15% or 20% volume feels like it no longer sounds the same at low volumes and you have to turn it up to around 35% to 40% volume to hear anything that you could previously hear before the volume cranked up. Is this an issue with all soundbars/speakers?
Finally an honest review about this product. I was about to get this soundbar to pair it with my LG oled and I skipped the q990b because I thought it would not work as well with an non samsung tv…
@@andrewrobinsonreviews it's a beast of a thing from DALI. It's like a big chunky single piece stereo system but as you would expect it sounds great with music. I can totally understand how someone would love it.
Hello on the lg 5.1 soundbar there is the option of surround sound setting In the settings part of the column, should this option be set to on or off? Basically what it does is transform the 2.1 stereo sound into a 5.1 I wonder what is the correct configuration option if it would be on or off since in advance I appreciate in some soundbar there must be original sound or surround sound
I have an older LG Olex TV that I want to pair with an actual non virtual Dolby Atmos soundbar that is budget level. What would you consider is a good LG budget level soundbar please?
Sometimes Samsung soundbars have compatibility issues with some tvs, It works well with their own brand but for other tvs, I think the Bose 900 will be a solid choice. Mine has worked perfectly since day 1. Great video, thank you for letting us know!
Bang & Olufsen Theatre should also be a (luxurious) option, the soundbar has panels and a mount option for LG TVs. Especially remote control options fit well with LG
well I have had mine for 8 months now and I love it sound is fantastic and everybody who listen to it for the first time its always wow , and I would highly recommend it , but for sure if i saw this review i would not get it , so I am glad i dident haha
Thats how I am feeling. Mine is still in the box - I got it 50% off with an LG TV. I Googled loads of reviews (didnt see this one) which all stated it was amazing. How on Earth can this review be accurate and all the others not be?
@@zinggamer6387 I will be totally 100% honest. I think its brilliant! We have a reasonable size room - We have the bass speaker on the floor under the TV - We have the rears just below celing height in the corners because we dont have space behind us. We tend to only bother for movies (which we watch as a family quite a lot) and its AWESOME. I have a MUSO (I think its called?) sound bar which is nice quality - have had hi fi seperates in the day and surround sound system with KEF eggs speakers (I think they were called?) so have had decent gear in the past - and I think this sounds really cool. I have no idea how much better or worse it is to others but I would very much say if you have an LG TV it would make total sense to get this which is designed to work with it. I can only imagine it will come down in price over time and we got ours on a deal with an LG TV. Hope that helps!
I have a C1 and had high hopes for this. Do you guys think a firmware upgrade would fix it. I have the q900a with rears and wanted to upgrade to this. But thanks for the save.
I assure you, this is NOT our typical experience. Soundbars are often fantastic options for people who just don't want to fuss with all the boxes, cables and system matching that most Home Theater and HiFi products require.
@@KristiWright I will give them a chance again, they seem like a cheaper solution to an Atmos system. Compared to buying an AV amp on top of my stereo amp plus all the other speakers.
Wow. I was not expecting this review. I purchased the LG SP11RA which replaced the RG. I had high hopes for this model and nearly all the customer reviews give it glowing reviews. One of the main reasons I purchased the LG Soundbar SP9Y (and decided to get the SP11RA) was because of the glowing reviews of the SP9Y / RG (especially Kristi's comments after). I am looking for something that does a great job with 2 channel TVE streaming content to give me a good virtual surround. LG SP11RA falls very short in that area but movies with 5.1 / Atmos sound great. It looks like the bar is a lot smaller this year so your review make sense. Thanks for the honest take. A: I was actually very excited about the center up firing speaker. It was my main reason for wanting to upgrade. FWIW, I hate the cloth and the subwoofer looks stupid this year. Looks cheap.
Possibly, if the TV should just pass the sound to the soundbar without any processing: "Bypass mode", and then the soundbar should output that with it's own processing, and there will be some difference noticed.
Hey Andrew and Kristi (sorry if I misspelled your names), I've been looking at the Starkrimson Stereo Ultra amp and would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Had the SN11RG. It was decent for the most part. Found myself tweaking the settings often, depending on the content. The Bass setting worked best for me. Switched to Sonos, not one regret.
I agree with this review although my experience has been slightly different. Coming from an audiophile headphones background I was immediately unimpressed with the sound. It was hollow and boomy until I set it to the cinema preset, and set minus 5dB to overall bass, and plus 5 to overall treble. That in combination with the ai room calibration which significantly lowered the bass for me prior to calibration means the soundbar is somewhat neutral. I live in a smaller studio apartment and only set the bar to 15 or so during movies for a full sound, and plus 2dB for the sub. I noticed even with the fake “surround sound setting” off it will still do it for stereo content under the cinema preset. So as long as you output a surround signal the bar won’t mess with it spatially. I spent hours researching how to get this thing to be neutral, something most people wouldn’t want to do. I would guess the room calibration is failing under your circumstances. LG just needed a “neutral” or “Direct” preset but I’m guessing they don’t care considering the app has broken English all throughout. This entire experience left me with a bad taste for LG. I shoulda just gone with actual speakers.
If you want to test a Soundbar to avoid them the SONY HT S20R or HT S40R is the one for you. I had the S30R and it lacked treble , tone setting for treble and DTX support. If the Sony soundbar had tweeters for the soundbar speakers to give treble output and DTS support it would be a great budget 5.1 soundbar.
I got mine for a deal, at first there was interference for the rear speakers. One day it stopped having issues, maybe a firmware update? I never moved my router or other devices out of the way.. I love it. The room and its sound reflections have a huge impact, my bedroom sounds PERFECT. The livingroom has issues due to the room and the reflections it has. The sub isnt super beefy, you can place it to try and make it a little better, thats what i did. I also rent an apartment, so I dont want too much punch in my sub for my neighbor's sanity lol
Hi Andrew, I like the information you shared about the LG sound bar and I wanted to ask you a question about two different sound bars i'm considering on buying. The first one is the LG 9.1.5 and the other one is the 7.1.4 both systems are wireless I'm just not sure about the sound quality of the 7.1.4 and right now the 7.1.4 is basically half the price of the 9.1.5. I don't need the blast out the neighbors or compete with anybody. I was just wanted to get your opinion on which one would be the best buy.
I use the german Version DS95QR on my LG G2 77“ and I love it for a soundbar. It is way better than my yamaha 5.1 avr I Had before. Had no issues since day 1 and love the overall Performance and good Sound with good bass. Even in the german Audio community and by experts it is often recommended and when tested it performs great. Crazy that you had so many issues.
Sony isn’t known to release sound bars often like Samsung does. They usually release every few years and ride with them and improve with updates over time. That’s also why Sony doesn’t drop theirs on really good sales as much because they’ll hold value longer since it’s not outdated a year later.
I like my LG SL5Y with (bass blast) much better than the q990b, I just bought a Samsung and am very upset that it has few low frequencies compared to the cheap LG with (bass blast). Is there any way to fix Samsung? I tried all the equalizer settings in the application, nothing can add such a large amount of low frequencies as on the LG with (bass blast) - voices on the LG sound much bassier, more brutal
Great Review! I just bought one not more than 24hrs ago. Paired with my LG OLED 77 C1 . Setup was simple. I find that the subwoofer is lacking bass unless you really crank up the volume.
@@ItzMattAye I have the exact same situation. I got the S95QR today and i have the S11RG. Well the old Subwoofer (11RG) and Bass is ten times better and stronger than the new one (95QR). Everything else is better on the new one. But the bass is very very bad... Did you find something that helps?
@@McCroud No solution to increase bass. Within the phone app, just adjust the bass settings and change sound selections to "Bass". But doesn't help much. It changes the sound quality. Hoping for an update from LG that will address the issue.
My experience with LG sound bars has been awful. I have an SP9YA that refuses to pair with the LG rear surround speakers. The first time I sent it back to them I received it back after a full month damaged and still unable to pair. They requested I return it to them again and agreed to refund my purchase. After not hearing from them another month I called in and discovered that instead of refunding me they were attempting to fix the bar again. Another week went by and the bar was returned to me. The dents and damage that were present after the first warranty return were fixed but guess what..... it still wouldn't pair to the rear surrounds. LG has denied my refund request and is requiring me to return it to them for a third time for a repair attempt. I'm 2.5 months into this process and beyond frustrated. And before you ask, Yes, I've tried 3 different sets of the SPK8 2.0 surrounds. The issue is the bar. I would recommend avoiding LG sound bars.
It must be really frustrating that you got a faulty unit. My experience with Sp9Ya is completely different. It sounds pretty damn good, never experienced a dc (you just put everything in Cinema mode and its good to go), plus I got the SPk8s a month ago and I was surprised how easy was to install them. I have the receiver around 2-3 meters away from the soundbar behind a couch on ground level and it never loses connection, no delays whatsoever. Sound wise they elevate the experience completely, very much worth the upgrade. All in all the whole thing cost me about 850 euro including Spk8s and the stands for them and Im pretty happy with it.
I'd hazard a guess the sub box is thicker wood and placed on the floor, the wireless signal has more to pass through or bounce around compared to the rear speakers that more than likely have line of sight of the bar.
LG claims there is a 100' (31 meter) signal transmission capability. Since we haven't had issues with other sound bars in the same room, I think the problem is the LG bar. It does not work as advertised.
@@KristiWright oh I quite agree, I was simply giving a suggestion as to why you had issue with the sub but not the surrounds even when they were further away. It's definitely a build issue with the LG.
I recently purchased a LG oled G4, want to get an upgrade on my older sound bar, do you recommend staying with a LG sound bar as similar to TV, or do i pick a sound bar not LG, LglG seems good as orchesta mode and they connect easily, or should i just grab a better sound bar and not worry about this. Thanks
Get the Samsung Q990D for a more cost-effective and stronger center channel performance and Sony A9m2 for better surrounding effects. Other alternatives are JBL 1300x for amazing bass performance and versatile surround speaker use cases. And no, LG Orchesta mode is a gimmick. I have a LG TV and I think they are excellent and have their own advantages against Sony and Samsung TVs, but the above 3 I listed are just better than any of the LG soundbar product lines by a light year.
The only use case for buying an LG soundbar is only if you have a tight budget but want to get actual physical surrounding speakers. But even so getting a brand new Q990C or even Q990B is still better. So I will restrict the use case to only if you have a tight budget and also if somehow you are obsessed to keep every product from the same brand for consistency and brand loyalty lol
@@edisonl1756 i m using G3 77 and C1 65" one with samsung soundbar 700C and LG SP8 with G3...tried S95QR too top model of 2022 but it over for my 16x14 size bed room and required too many wires and power sockets..so i avoid but the sound of SP8 and dialogue clarity is far better than samsung
@@edisonl1756 i wouldnt go for it (unless u find it for the same price maybe then ignore the rest). S95QR (its 0.5 points behind the Q930 is with all the firmware updates rly good. not perfect like every soundbar but currently pretty cheap at around $600-650 while the Q990D is double the price for (according to rtings) whopping 0.7 more points (+ not to mention a 11.1.4 thats already a unfair comparison.) its like saying a $400 4k OLED 55° screen is worse than the $5000 98" oled one, so got for that... in fact all listed above except the Panorama 3 (which i cant say if its rly better or not since its soundbar only & the buyer reviews arent that great, like having no bass or also tinny) are WAY more expensive than the s95qr like some of them are priced at $2k like wtf, whats that comparison, ofc they will be better lmao. at that point it does make more sense to go full AVR 7.1.4 setup than the Q990D since a real 7.1.4 is better (duh). Samsung also known to develop some HDMI dropout issue for some reason (i had multiple samsung TV's & i believe others when they said that all have it after a year or two since every Samsung TV i got, have these ARC/EARC issues after some time - even some technicians know this problem, its fixable for TV's but requires someone from Samsung iirc to into the firmware settings). the LG works for now & didnt read many people complaining about it. so slightly worse soundbar or one where u know u can buy a new one after a year idk. easy decision. (also idk if orchestra mode is actually only a gimmick or not, some say it is other say its not, then others say its good for "stereo" content like normal TV shows or music but not for atmos content. + many dont try long enough to figure it out, they try to enable it -> sounds bad - ok disable & never touch again) (i know lg market the bar at $1,8k but never rly sold at that price, even the newer TR model that is $1,8k on their website but every retailer selling it for $1000-1100 since day 1. while samsung rarely drops their prices. even the Q990B is still $850 - cant tell if its worth the $250 uplift which also Wifi issues & even faulty firmware updates or & random disconnects of the rears & sub. (there is a whole forum user reporting these technical issues & how or attempt to fix them temporarily). (LG has also one but its less technical issue related these days). i admit i dont have a current gen Samsung soundbar & cant speak much how they sound, but going by common sense & scores they barely make a difference. my dad has a pretty impressive AVR 7.1.4 setup & also upgraded some speakers to some german brand & while its way more accurate & overall better soundstage (also mostly due way larger speakers, simple physics), i cant complain about the LG tbh. in terms of quality what this soundbar offers especially for the current price is already impressive
Hey Andrew & Kristi, any plans on reviewing some speakers from Canton? I understand they're back in the states, so very curious about some Ventos or something with the ceramic tweeter. Awesome review as always, and honest(because I heard some LG sounbars and they really need to get their s#!t together:) )
I would LOVE to review Canton speakers. It's been (I think) 10 years since I last heard their products, so bring 'em on! Not sure who I need to reach out to though.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews love the enthusiasm! I'm sure Kristi'll figure it out and hunt some people down in the process to get some :)) she's great and you make a great team 💪
Dude i have the s90QY and i totally agree with you. I felt hoodwinked when i got this soundbar. On paper it looks great, but music and some video games sound TERRIBLE. Wish i had done Bose. I would love to see a review of the bose soundbar 600.
I just got the S90QY with the SPQ8-S rear speakers a few days ago. This system is bass heavy so I set bass to -3 and treble to +5. I turned up my center speaker and overhead speakers to +2, subwoofer to -2. I prefer cinema mode to my tv with eARC. The app experience on iOS was really easy and the only bug on the app is it crashes when trying to view the user manual. Everything works perfectly. I did have a connection issue with my subwoofer as it sits next to my sofa rather than next to sound bar but a small adjustment by a few inches resolved that, this only occurred the one time. The rear speaker kit is a must buy especially if you can get them for half off like I did at $100. The soundbar itself was on sale for $733. I spent some time watching IT (2017), Star Wars: Andor, and my wife play Breath of the Wild. This system sounds amazing and it’s immersive. Highly recommend watching scary movies with the rear speakers. The only annoying issue I had was getting my Apple TV CEC to switch inputs like it should when passing through the soundbar. I fixed this by moving the Apple TV directly to TV input. CEC worked as it should the first few times I powered on Apple TV but then after a while the soundbar would struggle to use the correct input/output. This could have something to do with eARC being enabled on my TV but even when I disabled it the issue remained. I still use the HDMI input on the soundbar but for a Blu-ray player that’s rarely used. I don’t know if this helps but I have Neural: X disabled since I tend to make use of Dolby Atmos content. For $833 I’m satisfied with my home audio setup. If your Apple TV CEC works as it should then you should have no problems. My next task is finding the ideal mount for the rear speakers. It’s only keyhole in the back with a threaded connection on the bottom, the SPK8-S kit had a threaded connection on the back of rear speakers.
Wow interesting ! Watched reviews on 2 trusted sources (yours and PP World in France) and takeaway is quite different. Agreement on so-so performance on music listening and similar take on volume output (Samsung can achieve higher level), and front height effects below avg (middle top driver not a big deal as well). But otherwise, this LG performed well. Even PP’s binaural demo was quite convincing. Interesting. Key difference I can think of is test setting. Your house is very open concept and houses in the US are rather large so volume output and power reserve matter way more. PP tested it in a more typical European setting (traditional closed room, 200-300 sqft room). Could that be enough to explain such different outcome? Anyway, always good to compare different POV. Great video as usual otherwise! (Btw, bought the LG Eclair for my bedroom recently…you’re right, great little soundbar !)
Hello Andrew and Kristi! Hope you are well, had a Yamaha Soundbar for daily tv listening and replaced it with a Marantz Pm6005, and a pair of Cabasse Mc170 speakers. Best decision I made 😂
Hi guys. I have a old LG 5.1 home cinema set up (HX976TZW), with 5 individual speakers. Do you think I will hear much of a difference upgrading to a modern sound bar surround system, specifically the Samsung Q990B? Thanks for any input.
i watched your video afrter buying my soundbar. i have none of these issues that you mentioned in this video. the soundbar is great, easy to set up and the sound is amazing.
What tvs were you using them anyway
I wouldn’t get a Samsung soundbar for a Sony or other tv when you aren’t getting the sound quality from them lol

I got the soundbar luckily i mever listened to the uneducated reviews, its got good sound and definitely has strong bass just ask my neighbours 2 doors down, had it half price with lg g3.
I got it yesterday, Not a single problem, soundbar was great and top quality sound.
🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚨
Of course LG would get back to us AFTER this review was completed and uploaded.
Regarding your comment about clip or distortion at volumes between 95 ~ 100dB, we are aware of that, since the soundbar system's distortion limit is about 100dB."
➡Regarding the wireless subwoofer issues with respect to range.
LG's OFFICIAL RESPONSE: "2022 LG sound bars feature an upgraded wireless module compared to previous years…rated for up to 31 meters (100’) of signal transmission. The testing room’s environment and obstacles may be a factor."
In my opinion, while I appreciate LG's reply, their answers don't really address or explain what we found/saw and measured. We appreciate LG sending this bar for review (twice) and we look forward to their new soundbars in the future.
Haha funny... they didn't 👀 your another movie's? Always a same room etc so if another soundbars from different brand's works fine so whay they give so stupid answer ahh LG :( 😞
Seeing your room, which looks open and with few obstacles, I would have thought that signal interference wouldn’t be much an issue 🤷🏽♂️
However, and let’s be honest, LG messed up with this bar and the upward firing centre speaker looks like nothing more than a gimmick which has backfired. I’m sure Samsung, amongst others, will be laughing all the way to the bank.
If it can help
1 - The best feature of the LG is the clarity of the sound, I do not understand how you can spit on the quality or it excels!
2- You will inevitably test your sound bar with music, I strongly advise you to place the subwoofer on the right or on the left or behind you, where there is a wall surrounding it and test as best you can
3- You have your LG95, you start your music, and there, damn it lacks Punch!
Appreciate this comment as I'm researching this exact combo from JL for this reason right now. Thanks!
I have a C2 and this soundbar, and it sounds amazing.
I was told that this soundbar needs to be paired with the A9 processor
I love it on my G2. Crazy good!
Agree with you. This is a very afwul video
Installed this system and it sounds amazing I had none of these issues but then again I'm using a lg be3 77 oled TV! Definitely recommend this system!
I almost pulled the trigger on this sound bar but got a crazy deal on the 990b. I'm overly satisfied with the 990b. Thanks for all the hard work!
My one was sounding very average until I found the option to turn on e-arc instead of standard arc, after that it sounded amazing
Perhaps that’s his issue? I wouldn’t have thought he’d have missed that though seeing as he reviews sound bars
Really? You mean he plugged on box cable instead of high quality cable or you mean a setting?
@@UnitedKingdomRC If it is so then thats a shame.
Hi Andrew, do you recommend a Sony A80J, to get the Q990B? Or in summary, do you recommend the Q990B for non-Samsung TVs? Thanks so much.
i am waiting the answer too☺️
No it’s not recommended
Much appreciated!
Completely disagree with you.....! I m using it since 2 weeks now and didn't find any issues....fully satisfied....!
S95QR with sony bravio 4K tv.
Same here.
The review is 2 years old though, maybe firmware updates fixed it.

Are you serious? I need the exact s95QR piece which you get. Please share your experience in elaborate on firmware update etc.

Compatibility issues I almost buy a Bose soundbar , good thing i read some reddit comments that is not compatible with LG TV. I ended up buying LG soundbar with my LG TV no issues so far
Good thing I got a LG SN11RG, I was debating to get the S95QR and good thing i didn't. awesome review.
I’m glad I have last years Samsung Q950A bar. It’s a real winner with no need for a ton of tweaking.
Thanks for the honest review. I think I will keep my 5.2 setup for now with my Polk speakers, SVS subs and my Marantz SR5015 ;) (paid total: $1,350.)
I have had the same experience when I installed this soundbar for clients.

@@Microice17 hi. Yes I really do like the base
.very punchy. Every sound comes out crystal clear. The base alone is 240watts

Thank you for the great video, and thank you for answering all the questions that i have for comparing it to the Q990B.
We appreciate you guys sharing your experience. Thanks for watching.
What do you do when you already have the lg s95qr sound bar? I hate to spend the money for another sound bar?
Same here..
@@randyhouchin1715 do u guys have the same issues as he mentioned?
I'm still running a Dahli Kubik One since new, and love its big presentation. Also a ridiculous bargain second hand these days.
Going to have to Google that speaker as I am not familiar. Thanks for watching!

Thats how I am feeling. Mine is still in the box - I got it 50% off with an LG TV. I Googled loads of reviews (didnt see this one) which all stated it was amazing. How on Earth can this review be accurate and all the others not be?
@@RichardsGuitarshop hi bro how's ur s95qr give me some experience I am planning for this
@@zinggamer6387 I will be totally 100% honest.

Honestly this is my experience with all sound bars. I’m usually surprised when some reviewed sound bars get good reviews. Thanks for the honesty
Andrew when will u be reviewing The New B& O Theatre is it worth the $$s and has made my B&O Stage redundant
Für meinen LG G4 83" in 36m² Zimmer, werde ich dich die Samsung Soundbars holen. Die sind such besser veratbeitet und haben keinen Stoffbezug due meine Katze 🐱 vernichten würde.

Hey Andrew and Kristi (sorry if I misspelled your names), I've been looking at the Starkrimson Stereo Ultra amp and would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Is the LG S95TR an improvement?
Thanks for the great in depth honest reviews Andrew. I had high hopes for this bar. Guess the Samsung 990B is still king?
Watch all the way through to the end for your answer.
Beautiful plant! What's your favorite movie mix guys? Great and very honest review.
I looked up the word "Gimmick" in Webster's 2022 edition. I was a bit shocked to find a picture of the LG S95QR.
😂
Any rumors on 2nd gen. Sony HT-A9 coming out sometime in the near future? HT-A10 perhaps? Love when you guys review soundbars!
I haven't heard any update rumors. Appreciate you watching!
I agree. The subwoofer is incredibly underwhelming. I’m still looking for a solution to get my bass fix.
WOW, appreciate you sharing your experience. Sorry you're having such a hard time.
Are you sure you didn't hook up the Sony CSS-5 Bookshelf speakers?
I bought a Oled77g3 and I get the soundbar S95QR for 100 euro's extra. so I will exited when I get the TV next week
How is it? Works good?
?
I recently purchased a LG oled G4, want to get an upgrade on my older sound bar, do you recommend staying with a LG sound bar as similar to TV, or do i pick a sound bar not LG, LglG seems good as orchesta mode and they connect easily, or should i just grab a better sound bar and not worry about this.
Thanks
@@cathalconvery8124 stick with LG only. SP8, SC9S, S95QR all are good grab based on ur budget and room size

+ many dont try long enough to figure it out, they try to enable it -> sounds bad - ok disable & never touch again)
(i know lg market the bar at $1,8k but never rly sold at that price, even the newer TR model that is $1,8k on their website but every retailer selling it for $1000-1100 since day 1. while samsung rarely drops their prices. even the Q990B is still $850 - cant tell if its worth the $250 uplift which also Wifi issues & even faulty firmware updates or & random disconnects of the rears & sub.
I had the complete opposite experience with the s95qr and I think it sounds awesome and almost no distortion but my room is smaller I think
If you have a smaller room perhaps this bar would perform better or come off as more stable.

Dude i have the s90QY and i totally agree with you. I felt hoodwinked when i got this soundbar. On paper it looks great, but music and some video games sound TERRIBLE. Wish i had done Bose. I would love to see a review of the bose soundbar 600.
We reviewed the Bose 700 and 900 which you can find in our Soundbar playlist here ruclips.net/p/PL0M9xqvUDwdwvLTtBMYGRcCVWE-rkEWx_
Is this bar worth upgrading to when I already have the S90QY
hell no. he hated it
Wow interesting !
I appreciate this comment. @andrewrobinsonreviews can you reply to this?
