- Final layout of my work in progress, need to tweak some motions and re-render as well as a lot of light tweaking to get a more realistic look to the shots. Some look great, some border on comic/cartoon LOL.
Models by Marcelo Arias Espinoza, Gordon Brinkmann, JujuVenile and Anson Call.
Rendered in Lightwave 2015.3 and composited in Hitfilm Pro 15.
Engine "Turbo" thrust created using Hypervoxels in Lightwave.
Laser shots a mix of Lightwave Hypervoxels and old school compositing of .jpg blaster "bolts" depending on the shot. Explosions a mix of ActionVFX aerial explosions and HitFilm particle explosions. Lots of Lensflares done in Lightwave (engines, empty explosions, additional lighting on particle explosions....). Audio grabbed from clips on youtube from the original 1978 series.
Shot for shot re-creation. It was like watching Dykstra's work back in the day! Well done, sir!
That was so cool! I thought I WAS watching Battlestar Galactica.
"Every creature in the universe wants to exterminate us and you want to hire a vocal group" Dialog between Boomer and Starbuck in Saga of a Star World. This is incredible
No word of a lie i heard this in my head this afternoon and it made me chuckle.
Great jobs. The original Cylon Raider is one of the coolest ships ever.
I love original BSG!!!
🤠🤩
THAT is the Galactica. As good as the modern show was, THIS is how I need it to be.
Oh, and VERY neat duplicating actual SHOTS from the show!
I agree with you STNeish
Petition to get the studio to do what they were gonna do in the 90s? Continue season 1 of the original show, Ignoring 1980
@@HunterTag uhhh I would said the same thing up until couple years ago but with the way Hollywood is in the “woke cultural”. ...This is not the time. Unless it’s an independent film or something. I really don’t want them touching original BSG.

Glen Larson owns the film rights to Galactica
He would not let them make a movie out of the new show because he did not like it at all
That being said at this point I doubt we will ever see a Galactica movie
Larson would only allow a movie set in the original time line to be made completely ignoring the new show and you can imagine how much that will piss off the new show people
a very nice 3D animation that fits very well in style with the original series. nice work!
A nice stab at what cost them millions to do back then great job!
If you repeat those scenes in a different order, mirror them and keep repeating - Voilá, you got yourself a sci-fi movie!
Ah yes, the glorious reuse of stock footage! Seemed extra prevalent in this show, but it was great nonetheless.
Thank you for using my Galactica model.
Stunning work JujuVenile you must be proud, I know I certainly would be, I actually thought it was Galatica in HD, she looks just as I remember. Again stunning work friend. Don't ever stop. Best wishes.
Nice work sir. This takes me back as a 10 year old in 1978 watching this gem of show. Thanks for sharing.
Out FRAKKING STANDING! You are truly amazing!
Fantastic! I loved how you kept the animation true to the original, however some of the original explosions looked a little odd with the CGI. The New Galactica series is ok, but the original is the one I grew up with and can always watch more than once.
“The day those guys could outfly us without a ten to one margin.”
- Captain Apollo (Blue Squadron)
very good looking effects and timing of lasers & explosions. Keep up the good work. I hope you could later do longer clips.
Simply impressive
Well done all these great fight scenes "remade" very nicely
Absofrakinglutely gorgeous
Gave me chills-so lovely.
Glenn L laursen would be proud of you.
Agreed.
His name is *Glen A Larson*
Beautifully done.
Great job. One of my fav shows.
Beautifully done!
Magnificent!!!
Excellent work!
The sounds the action of the ships is absolutely perfect. The soundtrack is impeccable. Excellent!
Brilliant I was 6 again watching this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
May the Lords of Kobol bless this work! 😎😊😇🙏✌️👍👏
It's really impressive that modern computers and software can create animations so similar to the original Battlestar Galactica in 1978. This kind of power also opens up new doors to those who want to go further: One key issue was never directly addressed in the '78 series. The Galactica escaped the massacre near Cimtar, recovering a limited number of fighters. Then when the Galactica and the Pegasus attacked the Cylon City at Gamoray, the complete fighter compliment of both ships were combined aboard the Galactica when the Colonial Fleet escaped Gamoray.
At no time in the series was the Galactica ever said to be down on its fighter compliment, even though battles were depicted that showed Vipers having been destroyed. In short, despite obvious losses, the Galactica (and Pegasus) never seemed to run out of Vipers; they simply trained new pilots and put the pilots in brand-new Vipers. (And the Galactica even customized at least one Viper, disarming it and enhancing the engines for high-speed reconnaissance in "The Long Patrol"). This leads to what should be obvious but was never directly shown: Colonial battlestars must have the built-in ability for in-situ resource utilization (space jargon for "living off the land"). How could they do this? The underside of the battlestars' hulls have built-in nooks and caverns that would be an excellent place to capture asteroids, even while in flight. A ship like the Galactica (or Pegasus) could snag a few small asteroids of the desired composition, maneuver them to dock with the ship's underside, and then digest the needed raw materials to provide a steady feed of 3D printer stock inside the bowels of the ship. Simple ingest the raw materials, 3D-fabricate the parts and a new squadron of Vipers (or shuttles) comes out the other end. It's also possible that the remains of destroyed Cylon fighters, outposts and freighters ("Lost Planet of the Gods", "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero", "The Living Legend", "The Hand of God") could be captured and salvaged, recycled to also make new ships.
Maybe this could be shown using 3D animation. The most interesting possibility would be showing the Galactica slowly making parts for even larger spacecraft, perhaps lesser warships to support the Galactica.
Awesome work!
This is beautiful and very impressive. Thank you very much! Liked and commented!
Excellent job! Brings back many fond memories.
Outstanding work! (29 December 2020)
Centurion 1: Should we actually try to hit these big ass human ships we're firing at?
Centurion 2: Nah, near misses are good enough.
wow
That was awesome!
Outstanding and I LOVE IT!!!
The cylons and alliance both had the neatest ships. star base and battlestars, vipers and raiders
Well done excellent work.
Excellent! I really enjoyed that. Any chance you will be doing more or longer segments??
Incredible work.
"Launch all Vipers."
Really nice work
Looks good. I hope you had fun with it!
Very well made!
Well done! This is awesome. Please do a remake of the original 2 TV series and 3 movies.
Very well done.
Please, oh PLEASE, tell me you're going to give us more! A LOT MORE!
amazing work
Looks good. Have you considered upgrading LW to the latest version? The new PBR shading system is really awesome.
That was really great. I'd love to see a shot from the viper cockpit as it fires and the Cylon explodes.
Awesome!
WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job wow 👍👍
Really cool!
Very nice.
👏👏👏
Just.. wow.
Nice!
Such a lovely ship- though I always wanted to see where her turrets and main weapons were!
It's frustrating that in the few space combat episodes, it just appears to fire energy bolts from somewhere at the front.
I never liked the new versions battle scenes! An implosion and explosion of effects! The basics work well enough! Like here!
have you are tried an eagle spacecraft from Space:1999
GREAT VIDEO MAYBE THE NEW BATTLESTAR GALACTICA REBOOT WILL GIVE YOU JOB.
Prefer the ‘70’s ship designs much more than the new ones
Mk 1Viper is the best one IMO.
Wouw, Like the Original
Not sure you will ever see this but it looks like you used a model kit viper as your source. the small indention on the center / bottom you show is for a stand. It''s not on the actual viper.
I believe the creator of this object said he used a model for reference when sculpting it in the 3d program he was using. Nice catch on those little details.
Are you using the Bloom filter in LW, or is that a post-processing step in your compositor app? I've bought each LW upgrade over the years and am currently playing with 2020.0.2. The lighting and surfacing system has changed ENTIRELY. Distant lights now have a dome-like feature where you can spec the angle they illuminate. Makes for great soft shadows.
Glow added with compositing in Hitfilm Pro vs. additional render time in LW. I upgraded from 2015 to 2018 and then to 2019 but did not upgrade to 2020 as they doubled the upgrade price for my account....and I never started using 2018 or 2019 anyway...
😮
I thought you did a great job though some of the shots look like you filmed them using the Model Kits. This is no dig as they still looked great.
where did you get those meshes

サイロンの母艦カッコイイなぁ^^
I like the direction and the animation. I am not sure I like the lighting as much. It looks in some shots like the ambient intensity is too high. If you are going to for the classic evenly lit look, you should probably use area lights. If you are going for a more realistic space look, try using less ambient. Maybe use an area for a fill, if you feel like updating shadows. Also have windows, engines and other light sources on ships cast lights.
Thanks for the feedback. There's no ambient light at all, I set that to 0 and typically use 1 distant light or an additional distant as a fill that doesn't cast shadows. It's possible I didn't zero out the ambient in a few scenes but that's usually my first action when I start a scene. The models don't have any lights other than the Engines (which do cast light with a limited clamped range) and surfaces are just set with luminosity 100% for those representing lights/windows. I haven't taken the time to add lights to each area and set their range, etc... I started on the Galactica but after adding about 40 lights and saw I was going to need so many more I just gave up. I also was making them low intensity lens flares as well so they would be visible as a light and not just illuminating objects. Lighting is one of the things I do plan to tweak heavily on the scenes....at some point.
@@TomCrews It looks great tho! You can try DP light plugins if you don't have them. Then use the DP Dome light which acts as a quick occlusion light that gives those nice diffuse shadows. Useful unless the ship already have an occlusion map.
I liked it!
I visited the www.digitalstorm.com webpage and 'constructed', a AVENTUM workstation. With the intentions of loading the machine with the 3D Rendering programs, Lightwave 3D, Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, Poser, and DAZ Studio, into this machine.
I would really love to be able to produce a 'dreamfic' that would have 29th Century Starfleet ships "thrown across space and time", where they find themselves unwittingly in the midst of the Cylon Attack force that about to assault the Colonial Fleet on it's way to the so-called peace conference.
Now just do more and more
That was spectacular! I keep saying this, the best talent isn’t in Hollywood, the fans who know the heart and blood of the series, and have the technical know how can run rings around the overpaid, overrated “talent” that does it with a tremendous budget backing them!
Hahaaha, speedlimit in space 120mph ,lol
Excellent work. I do not have the talent or skill. I have often wondered if the following Fan Fic Crossover could be done in CGI
to combine two 1970's Sci-Fi classics, Battlestar Galactica and Space:1999 using a very well written Fan Fic Novel
titled "Greetings From Cylon " byAndrew Caruthers < slinter@juno.com >
found here - galacticafanfic.com/stories/greetcyl.txt
To see this brought to life would be great.
Keep up your good work.
A better website for the above mentioned story - www.space1999fiction.com/s1999/story.php?id=cylon
You could actually go in and fix those horrible shot in the series..especially where two shuttles were about to crash into each other in every shuttle scene. Lol
Great work
I'm a fan of the original, TRUE, Battlestar Galactica and think Moore's "re-image" is a disgrace and nothing what so ever to do with the original.
He probably wanted to make his own show but got no interest so when offered the chance th remake Galactica he promised to do so but then proceeded to make his own show with a thin BSG paint job and called it Re-imaged,
I would love to see a new show faithful to the original made with current technology, but then I say that about Babylon5.
I totally agree! 😇😊😎👍✌️ The Original Series - aka the One True Battlestar Galactica and neither Galactica 1980 nor GINO! Although Ron Moore had done tremendous work on Star Trek but he was the wrong choice for bringing back Galactica...which he didn't! He just made a mishmash of Space: Above and Beyond, The Terminator, Blade Runner and Westworld (1973), and called it "Battlestar Galactica" which we the Galactica fandom along with Dirk Benedict knew was NOT the case! And I do still get tired of people and articles just ignorantly dismissing Galactica as a Star Wars rip-off when it never was! Especially when Star Wars was more or less a combination of Flash Gordon, the film Akira Kurosawa, Dune and Valerian & Laureline! (And I say that as a Star Wars fan!) I really wish there could be a Dave Filoni/Jon Favreau type producer who liked and understood the lore and legacy of Galactica, and really bring it back thus superseding GINO altogether! 😊✌️ But alas, if only! 🥺😒☹️
I've personally always liked the remake alot more than the original. Simply due to the fact that it's story was better, but I consider them to not be the same show
I see it as the original battlestar galactica
And the newer gattlestar balactica
Two shows that are not related
NICE. Now please ensure you don't use the same few clips over and over and over and over for every space battle. Flipping it right and left fooled nobody. Cheap Universal bastards in 1978.
