- The new Razer BlackShark V2 Hyperspeed shares so much more in common with the BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 edition at $200, than it does with other less expensive models in their lineup Razer continues to release solid products throughout 2023, but not without some faults. This in depth review covers every detail, including comparisons to the Pro 2023 model, mic tests, and more! For $130, this thing packs a punch.

Hey Joe @GadgetryTech - looks like Razer released a firmware update on 9/27/23 to fix the bluetooth bug. Hope you can keep your commitment and share regarding the new update, and show the measurement of your custom EQ on Squig :)

Found you recently due to your Audeze Maxwell review. Your long and complete reviews of a headset are incredible and really appreciated. Keep up the good work! (I did buy the Audeze in part because of your review).
Thanks so much!
I've been impatiently waiting for this lol thank you!
Great review man. Your setup, videography, and analysis are great. I just picked up the V2 Pros yesterday and didn't even know these Hyperspeed versions existed. I am glad i got the pros though - a non detachable mic is a deal breaker for me, but wish the padding was just a little bit thicker. They look a little nicer on these.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you found it helpful. You still can’t go wrong with the pros.
Everytime I look for good, honest and high quality reviews I keep coming back to this channel. Appreciate you mate!
man i gotta say this is one hell of a youtube channel. you cut down some tens of hours of researching and comparing to a few 20 minute videos and a few online tools you've referenced. you've more than earned a subscriber. thank you SO MUCH.
Thanks so much! Happy holidays!
You channel reviews have great depth, noone does this on YT. U deserve more subs!
I don’t generally subscribe to RUclips channels or go out of my way to watch the same creators but your videos are awesome. You are very relatable with non-biased reviews and knowledge to back it up.
I’ve been wondering what the difference was between the hyper speed and pro 2023 but couldn’t find anything other than the chart Razer has posted on their website. Your video was significantly more helpful.
Wow thanks so much man! I really appreciate it. I’m glad it helped you out!
Absolutely. I have no idea why 3 months later still nobody’s talking about the v2 hyperspeeds. Thanks for the review.
@@TraeldornTech yeah right,Technee got review on them but that`s it
Some questions regarding the onboard memory: does the Hyperspeed save both audio AND microphone equalizer to the onboard memory? And second question: Does the v2 Pro also save those settings to onboard memory?
this is exactly what I was looking for, I actually own the v2 pro from a few years ago and it's getting pretty beat up so I started looking at a potential replacement and saw the hyperspeed on the website. Looked interesting but I was really curious how they compare to the v2 pros. So just a review is great but the comparison is what makes this video super useful to me.
Looks like there's just no reason to shell out the extra money for the new v2 pro for my usecase. Thank you for the great review!
Just the video I was looking for, thanks
Solid review, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
very detailed and helpful review. thank you
Does it save your desired volume using the volume dial on console after you turn it off, or does it default to the highest volume you set on the console settings?
2023 used like new, in white, is $117 on amazon. Just bought one
Looking for this. Thank you
they fixed the sound? do should i buy the pro 2023 or hyperspeed?
Thanks for the detailed review, I purchased the pro version with your link.
your reviews are pretty crucial for me finding the headset i actually want + having an audiophile angle to these is awesome being pretty nitpicky myself. it's really difficult to find a headset that you can wear all day with glasses + use it for gaming, music and work for equal measure. This looks like a good option, while i can easily afford the 2023 pro model, i'm not convinced of the added value. I tried the HS80's but they are too heavy and too clampy and not great with glasses, when you're used to plantronics rig 500hd for years so i just returned them.
My headset has that audio issue just how you explained it except I didn’t use Bluetooth at all to make it trigger. I think I moved the volume slider and turned mic monitoring off and on and that triggered that sound issue .. I shut it off turned it on like 4 times and it fixed .. I shut it off and back on to test it to see if it would mess up again and it messed I up!
I find it astonishing how you‘re still such a small channel. Your vodeo quality is as good or even better as youtubers with millions of subscribers. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much! I’m happy with the growth and look forward to what’s to come. It’s just getting the channel “out there” more that’s been a challenge. I really appreciate the support and kind words!
I was ready to buy this, thank you so much for your honest review. I guess I’m gonna hold on to my V2 pro( the older version) still works.
@GadgetryTech has the firmware bug been fixed? Will I have a problem with a custom eq if i never use bluetooth?
So what do you mean exactly you were having issues with FPS? like you mean hearing footsteps etc? Also, so is the mic on the hyperspeed sound alot different than the pros? i couldnt really tell in the test that good. The mic quality is def the selling point for me, but if its not good for fps, i play alot of COD and stuff so.
Recently discovered you channel, and love the content. I am in the market for a new wireless gaming headset, and am considering the Hyperx cloud 3 or Razer blackshark V2 Hyperspeed you've gone over in this video. Which would you personally choose, out of those two headsets?
Great review, if my original HS80 at any point will fail me, I will def look into the V2.
And just a slight correction; the Max was introduced this year, it's the original HS80 that has been around for the last couple years.
question: is sound stage an important aspect for fps gaming please? i dont know much about sounds
Amazing review as always, Sir. I hope the firmware/Bluetooth issues get resolved. The issues I have with most headsets is the depth and size of cup. Most of these 'gaming' headsets, I find, are too constructive on my elephant ears. I use the VSR Model 1 and the HiFiman Drop HE-X4, which are my goto cup and driver size. These just seem to be too narrow, imo. I would guess this shape is to do with sound profile and cost instead of going round and larger? Thank you as always for your time and efforts to share this review with us all. Take care, Sir.
Thanks! I still found these cups really nice. They are more open feeling than the EPOS H3Pro hybrid which most people like
@@GadgetryTech Thank you for your reply, Sir. Much appreciated.
Side Tone was a huge feature for me and I had the Blackshark V2 (updated) and the Cloud 3 wireless I got yesterday. Side Tone is EXCELLENT. Crystal clear, real time, perfect volume level, and doesn't lower the volume of the headset like most other headsets do when you use it! My Blackshark V2 pro's had an issue where enabling sidetone lowered the volume of the right ear cup only and it was very noticeable and horrible in game! They went back immediately because of that. Cloud 3 Wireless strikes a sweet spot of ergonomics, core features, and reliability that I think people care about. Sound quality on Cloud 3 and V2's are similar but Cloud 3 is just perfect for competitive FPS and everyone uses HyperX for a reason there.
hey man since you have both I'm curious which mic is better in your opinion the black shark v2 pro or the cloud 3 also between the two which do you seem to gravitate towards for gaming
How do you like the leatherette earcups of the Cloud III. Do you get sweaty fast in them?
@@87detto They're perfect. The do provide a bit of "stick" but in a good way, combined with the memory foam it provides a great comfy seal. My ears don't touch the inside of the cup and overall just really great. Definitely better than the claustrophobic and tight quarters of the V2's that felt like I was wearing a sock on my ear. Those made me instantly sweat. I would say the Cloud 3 "ear sweat" is on point with any other closed back headphone (DT 770, Crosair HS80 etc).
@@ezekielebieshuwa36 Hi, I think the V2 mic quality is a little better but Cloud 3 rejects sound a little better. Pick your poison. Range in my home goes about 10% further on the V2's but both are the best I've ever tested. Both beat the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless in range and mic quality and comfort. Nova's were the best for sound quality in and out of game. Cloud's are a cleaner audio than the Razer slightly less bass boost and they have the angled driver, I would say for competitive FPS they are the better headset.
Are there any third part pads that would work with this?
Hi thanks for such a detailed review, but now I'm torn between the Razer BlackShark V2 HyperSpeed and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7. Can you help me with this?
do you recommend them over the normal v2???
Wait, some headsets have a built-in sidetone feature? I've always just ticked the "listen to this microphone " box in the sound control panel on Windows😬
Nice video. I liked your format without so much background music better though.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll likely keep it at a lower volume than this one. It's difficult to find the right balance, so the feedback is greatly appreciated. It was surprising how many older videos suggested I add some subtle music to the background.
@@GadgetryTech I appreciate all the condensed and to the point information, which still fills like 20 minutes some time. ;D But it's getting a bit harder to focus and get it all in with too loud background music. At least that's how I'm feeling about this. Nice review btw!
Damn such a good review! Thank you! I think a feature that would make this a perfect PC headset and instant buy for me would be a chat volume balance wheel.
please tell the name of that headphone stand !
Hello. Can the dongle of the Blackshark V2 HS be used with other Hyperspeed devices like wireless mice or keyboards? Thanks.
Would love to see Razer BlackShark V2 Pro vs those Steel Series Nova 7 that you briefly showed. @20:23
question. does the hyperspeed dongle also work with its wireless mice and give it 4k?
Hey gadtrytech did they fix the problem with the eq and stuff or not? Cuz i don’t see your comment and im about to buy the v2 pros
What is that headset stand ? I can't find it anywhere :/
Can you save the eq settings with sidetone enabled and it work fine on ps5?
one of best review/reviewers really enjoyed it this channel really deserves more attention
I'm confused about whether to buy the Blackshark V2 Hyperspeed or the Barracuda X 2022? Any suggestion
Hi mate
I’m on the look for new headset for warzone I had BlackShark pro
I found them really bad .
What would be your recommendation for warzone ? I have sound blaster x4
Cheers
compared to the logitech g pro x... what do you recommend?
Great review just a quick question to anyone that knows. Does this headset work on xbox? (wired or wireless i dont mind)
Is there any noticeable white noise or buzzing when on ps5?
I just ordered myself the Nova 7, hope its really good, should arrive tomorrow. Sadly the mic is not as good as my HS80 wireless was, which died after 1.5 years from a dead battery
what do you think this compared to GSP670 ? i know GSP 670 is much older .. but still best wireless headset i ever bought tho ...
Anyway to sort by star rating on your DB site? Couldn't find a way. But I think it'd be useful. Unless I'm missing it.
There isn’t right now but I’m not sure i want to put too much into the start rating system. It’s only a beta process right now and I don’t think it always paints a complete picture.
So is this headset fixed now Joe with firmware update?
Thanks Joe! I know you kinda struggled with this headset on your stream lol. Hey from a sound and comfort perspective, what would you recommend between the Cloud 3 wireless and the G Pro X 2?
I would like to know too, but im betting on the cloud 3
so question i got the blackshark v2 pro but i think there awfull for like warzone directional sound is pants what headset do you recommend for fps
If you use the hyperspeed wired, is the sound better for fps? I find bluetooth sound delays so i was wondering if i use it wired will it be different?
Do you know if the blackshark v2 pro 2023 has the sounds equilizer? Because my old razer man o war doesn’t have it since it’s wireless usb😯
I got the black one and I lost the usb
Any ideas ??
Is the frame of the Hyperspeed HS made entirely of plastic or aluminum for stability
why is no one besides this channel reviewing this? seems like a huge bang for $130, and the down sides are so miniscule. same battery life, same headphone drivers, same microphone, MORE comfortable and WIRED mode? i also like faux leather compared to the foam in v2 pro, much easier to clean.
seriously whats the catch this is almost too good to be true.
Thinking the same. This is the ONLY in depth review at the moment, and a good one at that. But still would like to hear the opinion of other respectable tech reviewers in this space.
Maybe coz it was so stealthily released that others just got their hands on it and are taking the time to do a thorough test before releasing a video?
In any case, I pulled the trigger and ordered these on Amazon. Hoping I don't have any regrets 😅
@@Practitionerz Hello! What is your experience with the headphones so far?
@@andrei-mx3ny Hi! So far so good. I did experience the Bluetooth bug but closing synapse and resetting the headset making sure not to be on custom EQ works in resolving it. And being mindful of being on anything besides custom EQ when shutting it off prevents the bug from happening.
Bluetooth bug aside, it sounds amazing for gaming. For media consumption, it's more than decent but won't be getting any awards for it. Super comfy too, even more so than the Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 that I also own.
All in all, for the price, it's a good deal and I regret nothing. :)
@@Practitionerz Hi! I just bought this today, and I noticed that if I set to custom EQ, then close synapse, then disconnect and reconnect USB wire, I hear loud noise and bad quality audio, until I switch to a preset EQ or start synapse. Do you see similar issue?
@@yuuki-yuuki no sorry didn't experience this. I use it wireless almost exclusively. I only used the type c cable to update firmware.
I've had the blacksharks for less than 2 months now and yesterday a piece of plastic just flew off from the other end of the headband making them unusable when i put them on idk if that is common with them to be poor quality but something to consider i guess
Hi I have the razer blacksharks V2X. the cheap ones.(60 bucks I think) i still use them and they are great. i had turtlebeaches and steelseries at the 200 dollar range in the meantime which sounded better but werent as comfortable to me. mostly because of the weight. I have some neck issues so weight and clamping force are a big thing for me. so i returned those headsets
i dont really need new a headset but im wondering Id these sound way better than the V2 x's? because then these would be a good choice for me to try something new.
My mic isnt working when its wireless on switch i cant talk to anyone unless im wired any way to fix
Wow. That is one killer microphone.
Now is the bug fixed? cuz there is a firmware update.. for the hyperspeed from May 24, 2024 but i doesnt really specify if the bug is fixed
Had the og blacksharks before I switched over to Xbox. Super comfy, never got any distortion. Strong recommend from me
What are you using rn for Xbox??
The Bluetooth thing is a windows bug, windows loves to switch over to communication mode when it detects a Bluetooth chat device like you said. They might be able to get around it with a synapse update but I’ve struggled with this on many Bluetooth headphones soon as I hop into a game with voice chat switching over to communication mode even though I have a desk mic as the default. The way I fix it is by going into windows device manager and permanently disabling the Bluetooth device mic from my headset so it’s forced to never detect it on audio settings.
Then console players won't deal with this problem right?? I'm new to this
@@emmanuell9753 shouldn’t but depends on if there is an issue with it switching from one mode to the other internally also. The Xbox turtle beach stealth pro had the issue where it would come across as a chat device after Bluetooth and the game/chat mic volume would be busted and game volume degraded and controlled all by chat volume but the PlayStation version wasn’t affected. I’d say you are probably safe if your console is PlayStation but the Xbox is more similar to a windows environment and can fall into similar pitfalls with these multi option devices. Personally I’d wait to see what the firmware updates say or just get the older v2 pro which sound great just had a crap mic.
Lmao this is why my earbuds would do that when i would start up a game. It definitely would sound like I was on a phone call. 😂
This ended up having the same behavior issue on console as well. I tested a beta firmware update for a while after this review that fixed most of the issues. It’s not perfect but most of the audio bugs on Windows are gone. Same w console
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS
please it is compatible on ps5 ????, no one is talking about it for a few days I'm trying to find out
Did they fix the big bug since this video ?
Ive got the cheap blackshark v2 x and i find them to be way too boomy, and a terribly short lead. But having said all of that the mic is awesome and the comfort is unsurpassed. obviously these are way more expensive, does anyone know if they are equally as boomy in the bass dept?
is this better than the Corsair HS80 ?
When is the A-Rise review coming? I bought a pair of A-Spires after your review. And I love my Calzones!
I’m about a week or two out! Hoping to release some other reviews first but it’s coming!
@@GadgetryTech awesome looking forward to it! Subscribed!
I'm glad I checked for reviews before purchasing. Thank you for the review. This headset seemed to good to be true, and for now I guess it is.
Bought it, tried it, sidetone was inaudible, even at max volume, returned it to amazon.
If they fix this through firmware, could you note that? The sidetone is just too quiet.
Awsome vídeo!
When looking to buy a new headset, I almost chose this one, but I listened to owners complaints about Synapse, so I chose differently.
what's the delay? i play osu a lot and i noticed that with other wireless headphones, there's a HUGE delay. This headset (the blackshark) has a dongle. Does anyone know if it's good for rhythm games or if the delay is not that bad..
Nice review man, ordered some of these to replace my Roccat Syn Max Air headset (which was an abomination). Looking forward to not sounding like I am talking into a potato LOL
This headset or the astro's a40's?
Ty - very nicely priced
cloud 3 wireless ,hs80 max wireless or razer blackshark v2 pro wireless for a gamer that play csgo ? i have been using hyperx cloud flight for 5 years
Good morning champions :) new firmware live: Firmware v1.6.11_r2 - May 24, 2024
did the bug ever get fixed?
This might be a cop for me. On hyperx cloud 2 rn soooo I think that is an easy upgrade.
is this fixed?
I know a few companies are doing it, but can't wait until simultaneous BT is the standard for at least the "pro" versions of gaming headsets.
Another great breakdown and analysis, shame about the firmware bugs though.
Thanks! If they fix it this is a home run.
I guess I'll play the waiting game. I had the HS80 Max and had to send it back, because so many software bugs were annoying after a time.
What are your current top 3 headsets that you personally use most?
I bought Blackshark V2 Hyperspeed recently. It sounds well. Maybe it is because they updated it.
Please make a video when the bugs are fixed and with your EQ adjustments :)
please review the redragon h510 zeus x wired and the h520 , Redragon H510 PRO Zeus-X RGB Wireless , you will be surprised at these underdog heasdsets
Thank you, very clear review, speaking facts and I bought it so yeah I hope the bug is fixed
did they fixed it? was planning to buy 1 tho
Can anyone tell me if the Blackshark V2 pro custom settings on the synapse software transfer over to the PS5 once setup on the Pc? That is the only thing weighing my decision to buy
Yes they do
👍 nice info sir
Thank you!
has the glitch with the hyperspeed been fixed yet?
Hey Joe, great review as always. Curious though if there's a objective way to test latency in these reviews. A lot of these headsets say they're low latency, but they never release numbers. I've seen some test results on rting, and some of these headsets have noticeable latency.
Would be a good lens to add for the more fps focused headsets and dacs.
Thanks! I haven’t found a latency test I’m happy with yet. I only want to add it once I have a more accurate and consistent method of testing. Bad data is worse than no data with something like this, and I’d hate to misrepresent a product.
@@GadgetryTech that makes sense and hopefully latency is pretty low on these things anyway. It'll be cool if you can find a repeatable approach, but all good if it doesn't happen any time soon.
Can you boost bass for v2 pros? And do you think this is better than Logitech g pro x2 s?
Bass boost enhancement is available in synapse. I had mine with 45% bass boost. I find that value is the most comfortable for me
What’s the best headset for under $200?
I have never understood the attraction of sidetone. I hate the sound of my own voice and I find it very distracting if I can hear myself when talking to friends while gaming.
What is the purpose of sidetone? The only time I want to hear myself is if I have to test if the microphone is working.
Simultaneous Bluetooth is a must for me nowadays.
