I like the idea of a space simulation, somebody led me to a game called space station 11, which is a really old ass game that looks like it came from the '80s, anyway I had no interest in playing that game, however I like the structure of the game when it came to tasks and management, as the goal was to essentially live on board a spaceship and continuously fix and improve things, because you could occasionally get attacked by alien vessels, so it was very important to fix the ship or two get it in its best condition, but it's not meant to feel like one of those games that takes forever to make any progress, that kind of annoyance is something I don't want, because after some maintenance I want to travel the Stars and go to new worlds and visit New civilizations, shit like that needs to happen, too many games are meant for only one genre of gameplay, and I get bored of stuff when it's just the same thing every time.
I like a combination of things in my games.

I think a lot of people underestimate that SpaceBourne 2 is built on top of the first SpaceBourne, which itself is built on the Unreal Engine 4, and is using a lot of UE marketplace assets. That's not to diminish that it's impressive work for a single dev, but MUCH of the heavy lifting that would have taken years to flesh out was already done by building on top of an existing framework and using crowdsourced assets. Also, that's not to diminish some of the issues Private Division had with KSP2, which apparently doesn't have many of the original devs working on it?

Looking at the patch releases, the developer is hard at work addressing these bugs which is even more impressive for a one-person team. @austinm5630 Год назад +12

I bought it, haven't played it yet, but I think the thing that has stuck with me the most about this game is that, as a Star Citizen backer, I can forsee that if the lone developer of SpaceBorne 2 could simply borrow CIG's art teams for a couple months, this would be a better, if singleplayer, version of Star Citizen. That a lone individual has accomplished this much while a billion dollar company with over 300 developers has made a game with a third as many features and actually about the same amount of polish (better art, but the polish of SC isn't really better) speaks volumes about CIG.
Of course, CIG's defenders - me among them, sometimes - will point out that 1) most of their devs are busy working on the singleplayer Squadron 42 and 2) that the PU is a multiplayer environment, which is waiting on a stack of underlying tech before it can grow outward. And those people aren't wrong, per se. That doesn't change the fact that the actual gameplay available in their 10 year half a billion dollar project is less than this indie title developed in less time by a single man. No matter how favorably you qualify it, this still looks bad for CIG.

You can jump out at any point in space or flying over planets. There really isn't a lot of reasons to, but you can. Mining with a hand laser is one reason.
There is also a hover bike to fly on planets, with random points of interest to discover. There only seem to be 4-5 types right now but it's still fun.
Long distances in star systems are measured in AU. You normally spool up your warp drive, lock onto a planet/station/etc, and warp to your destination. But due to a bug and curiosity I discovered you can actually fly to a distant planet without warp as well. Took like an hour to go 4 AU or so. I doubt you can fly to other stars that way though even if you had the time.

I personally love the AI voices, they give the interactions this feeling of communication over cb and short range radio, and also from a dev point of view allow the game dev to spend more time and money on others issues than voice acting, which as someone who played the first Spacebourne which didn't had ANY voice acting beyond few key lines, is a wonder and make the world feel far more alive.

  • @FlorisDVijfde

Honestly what I'm seeing is unbelievable. So much graphic detail. Actually kind of dig the auto-tracking because I loved Rebel Galaxy Outlaw.
I've actually played Spacebourne 1 a bit and what disappointed me was that planets didn't really have names it was al AR-17 and names like that with some letters and digits. Likewise the characters looked samey, few had faces. This game promises thousands of solar systems so I fear it will have the same problem. Less would have been more.
Don't really mind AI voices, understandable low budget choice for a solo dev. Enjoyable space combat should be the meat and potatoes.
All in all this very much deserves a go and this guy Burak Dabak is a genius. Honestly I'm not able to find a solo dev that works with this much graphic splendor in such a vast world.

  • @manum1066

I can tell you, AI TTS will be replaced later by real voice acting. He once mentioned that planets might be exchanged for "real" worlds (which means, no more conceiled loading screen upon entering the atmosphere. BUT that's not for sure at all.). Besides many bugs that will be fixed (and already have), there are coming some features that were always planned from the start and will improve the overall experience a lot. And by the end, when the game leaves EARLY ACCESS, it will be a lot less janky for sure. It actually is right now VERY enjoyable!
Also there's a lot of potential for other things. I'm pretty sure that capital ships will find their way back into the game. In the very early Pre-alpha days the intro mission was going on inside a big cap ship that warped around the system, while you where fighting bad guys inside of it on foot. It has been removed story wise. But the thing is that the source level changes that he did to the Unreal Engine allow him to have ship interiors while the ships are moving, even warping around. And much more.. This game is already very surprising right now. The more you advance in the story, the more core features will be unlocked. Basically one by one. And towards the end of the story you end up with a big sandbox that can be played forever, if you like to. continue after endgame. Also I'm pretty sure that the sandbox mode will find back into the game, where you have all features right from the start.
But please take all of this with a grain of salt. He might be changing plans. However, he's a great guy! Really! Very nice and polite and he's working literally his ass off to get this project done! It's a true passion project. And I think he can use some help, be it translations or whatever else there is. You can check the SB2 Discord to find out if you like. For me personally this game is something special! It unites many feature that I always wanted to see in a game, and eventually offers a very unique experience. And it helps me to come down and relax after coming back from sh*tty deployments. The game rewards for you keeping playing it - and really, the price right now in Early Access is just a joke! Go get it! ;)

Enable the character to fire when flying between objects in space. That'd be cool. And some different personal armours down the line. An intricate character system.

I spent a while watching a dude play this on Twitch the other day. He eventually rage quite because the gameplay was so incredibly repetitive. I think it's incredibly impressive though for a single dev. How they've managed to flesh out the art alone is mind blowing, let alone the features - I'll for sure be giving it a go. If they add VR to this I'll for sure be up for diving in. Does anyone know if the models are all made by the same dev or did they procure them elsewhere? Just curious how far "a single dev" is being stretched.

I think some people get a little bit of their expectations misplaced by videos like this. I, too, was originally ready to throw money down on SpaceBourne 2 after watching a carefully edited but pretty cool video about it. It wasn't until I saw more long-play videos did I realize its faults and gameplay ceilings that aren't made as apparent in some of these showcase videos (and reasonably so, because these videos are showcasing the game not trying to dissuade people from trying it out).
If the core concepts interest you it's definitely worth checking out, but I also noticed that many of the missions are very... samey, and the space combat feels basic. The ground combat also feels like a blocked out test build rather than actual enemy AI. Another thing is that the planet POIs are basically instances that you travel through portals to reach, as opposed to having No Man's Sky seamless transition.
Again, it's not a bad game, but I think people need to temper expectations when going in. It would probably be best to watch some of the long play videos out there. While it's certainly more ambitious than Elite with its features, it's no where near as polished nor as (relatively) expansive when it comes to engrossing gameplay loops.
