Star Explorers is such a hidden gem! It might not have the fancy graphics of big-budget space sims, but it’s got this wonderful charm that’s hard to put down. The thrill of landing on mysterious planets and stumbling across alien ruins or bizarre lifeforms is super satisfying. The game has this way of making every adventure feel like a genuine discovery. Sure, it can be rough around the edges, but that’s part of its charm! If you’re into space games that put exploration front and center, this one is definitely worth a look. Would love to hear your take on it!
Yeah, really cool indie game, it has that Daggerfall vibe when you visits "dungeons". I just wish it had more content, but for $5 it's definitely worth it
Falling Frontier is collecting almost as much dust on my personal wishlist as Squadron 42 at this point. Well. Let's say half as much dust. I really hope Todd D’Arcy will succeed. I can't imagine how hard it must be to pull off a project like that alone and wish him all the best.
Thanks for putting this together! And good timing too, the Star Citizen community has reached a perfect storm where things like higher expectations than ever (thanks to CIG's endless promises), the PU is buggier and less stable than ever, server performance is abysmal, yet they keep adding more complexity without having server meshing in (and functional), less disposable income than before, and impatience at its peak - there are a lot of people who could probably do with playing some other space games to take their minds off things!
It sucks that no one makes space games for me. Star Citizen is the closest but that game will probably never come out. Need other sim-level space combat games with super detailed damage models
It’s a shame you left out Space Reign. It’s still in EA and the gameplay loops are still kind of bare bones, but there’s plenty to do and the combat alone is worth it. I absolutely love the aesthetic. If you love BSG2k or The Expanse, then Space Reign will scratch that itch. One of the frigates even looks like the Roci. To be honest, outside of Nebulous, this game is the closest to The Expanse and BSG2k out there. Any fan of those shows should definitely check it out. Great combat. The devs are amazing and the roadmap they have is exciting. No, I’m not a dev, lol, just a fan.
Exodus wasn't even on my radar until recently, and I got drawn in hard by the lore. At worst, they know how to market a game. At best, it could be the next Mass Effect level of scifi gaming. I hope it's a game that makes me want to lean back in my chair and listen to the dialogue rather than rush off to the next enemies to fight.
Please take SC off this list, its just getting old at this point. The more press we give them the worse they get. CIG need to see that their shtick is getting old. Stop all the feature creep and actually put a game together. Then build on that....i mean most of the games on this list have a fraction of the time and budget SC had/has and are producing stable games (or at least demos). I know SC is suppose to be a MMO, but they still missing simple and core features you would need for any game.
Qanga is the one space FPS game other than Starfield that ticks ALL the boxes for a single player RPG experience. I just hope that it continues development and adds modding.
They're a looooooong ways away from that. Right now it just feels like a UE asset-flip with a space theme. But hopefully they can pull it all together and make something worthwhile out of it.
It's 100% an asset flip and rip off of Star Citizen. It's like a "Star Citizen at home" but less systemic and with tons of bugs and none of the unique assets. I hope they build a game and succeed, but I tried it and was really disappointed after seeing RUclipsrs say it's good.
@@Niallistical LMAO.. apart from comparing apples to oranges. There isn't anything wrong with SC using scifi tropes or taking heavy inspiration and giving nods to the great scifi epics. Ex. The Reclaimer is intentionally designed to make you feel like you're inside the Nostromo from Alien. That's not a bad thing, that's why many of us love the ship, it pays homage to one of my favorite movies. But it's not an asset flip, it's an extremely detailed and intricate ship model that is leagues beyond anything any other studio is attempting right now. Qanga on the other hand is an asset flip, which means they didn't make the models, ships, guns, etc in the game. They either got free plug and play assets, bought premade packs, or stole asset coding from other games. Ex, the white and black starter ship (the one that is a knockoff of a unique Star Citizen ship) has a WWII era 50 cal machine gun just stuck to the front. It even has wooden grips on it like it would have had when mounted to the top of a Sherman tank 🤣. It's just sad. I hope you understand the difference between 'asset flip' and 'homage' now. I'm pretty pumped about Star Citizen paying so much homage to the great scifi films, books, and tropes. Really makes the game fun. And SC does such a good job of it too. Some of their ships are bigger than most games entire play spaces.
@crispy9175 The asset flips are place holders to bring the concept forward to generate funding. It's been in EA for like 6 weeks. What is available to play is very impressive. Certainly far more impressive than SC was at a similar stage of development. There is nothing wrong with SC copying ELITE and movies. I just chuckle when people claim Qanga us copying SC. Lol when SC contains every 80s cheesy Sci fi trope.
Although many of these games look interesting I realize that my latest disappointment (Bethesda's StarField) has cooled my desire to purchase early access and even "just released" games. Another disappointment includes Mass Effect: I want to actively play the game, not "play" a long cutscene. My plan is to wait a few months after release before buying my next game, to have time for other players to test that game i.e. I will wait until actual player reviews are out, rather than fluff/paid reviews.
I usually wait six months to a year until a game i want hits the sales, usually goty edition if it was successful, haven't felt like i missed out on anything and dodged many crap games inflated by marketing lies.
And yet, Starfield actually was completed and released. With all its flaws, admittedly. That sets it apart from a lot of the vaporware and development titles that are 'the concept of a game'...
Mr Ant, it struck me as you mentioned the amazing Peter F Hamilton that I've never heard you talk much about scifi books you've read, perhaps there is a video there for you/us?
None of them respects the basic principles of physics in space. Some of these games want to be realistic (as Star Citizen) but there’re not because of these big mistakes. They are still in a Star Wars like for what is physics.
I just realized Exodus is related to Wizards of the Coast??? (i.e. the people that handle D&D, Magic the Gathering etc.) This makes is a serious contender...
So, apart from one title. "Qanga" and excluding updates to the usual suspects, it's yet another list of vapourware. Please, please please just cover games that actually have a confirmed release date, be it Early Access or full release.
Yeah, I fully agree here. The landscape is looking kinda barren. I'll happily take a stab at Jumpship though, the rest is in serious need of cooking (besides the fully released stuff that's already proved itself of course)
I don't know if its true or not. But I've read/heard somewhere the Falling Frontier dev is having struggles with his in real life. Something family related. And don't get me wrong, family goes first! So, I do hope everything will be OK with him again and can continue with the game any time soon.
So Frontiers hit the bottom and realized they need to DO things for ED? My interest is (barely yet) renewed. I even found my last ship half in some exploration like 30 jumps from bubble and because I didn't even remember where I was going, I returned to Shinrarta Dezhra where I have my other ships, to be ready to regroup and... relearn the game.
some of these look VERY interesting, i have been feeling the itch of bridge-commander, i-war2 and battlestar galactica of late due to listening to a bunch of small-fleet first-forays sci-fi audiobooks but there's so litte on the market that suits, even the silent hunter games are ancient at this point and i have played FTL a lot over the years and while it's still the best of the modern age it still has narrative/RNG/control/theme limits. jump ship was sounding like something to keep an eye on until i heard x-box. . . .hmmmmmmmmm
The first ones in your list looked really cool by those trailes. But when I checked the Steam pages, it was kinda meh. Jump Ship looks much promissing from of those. Like Starfield but a lot better. Falling Frontier is one of most 'Can't wait' in my life and Exodus looks really cool, could be a hit, but we saw only a trailer as well. No Man's Sky is neverending story and even I don't play it much anymore, sometimes I get back for few hours to test new updates. X4 Foundations is my most played space game, and I'm honestly curious with what they will come this time after the not-so-perfect DLC. But currently I have a pause from it and started with Elite Dangerous and I have blast, it's amazing game! Much better than buggy Star Citizen (tested recently as well). And Everspace 2? Well, that is still in my play plan, but not really now. But I like the style of older game Rebel Galaxy, so I will eventualy play it for sure.
The only let down is people who do not understand the different definitions between "tentative" and "promise", in that regard, you only have yourself to blame, since CIG hasn't made any promises at all.
If I had a penny for every time there's a scifi story where Matthew McConaughey is involved in a plot to save earth by going to another far reaching location, with general relativity effecting time differently between him and those back on earth... I'd have two pennies... which isn't a lot but it's strange that it happened twice
@@zil0484 There isn't. @@s1lentw1nter It's not impossible, but it IS very unlikely. They are all pretty far along in development. The only reason they were removed was that they REALLY want to push 4.0 out this year.
@@ArianochWhite Knight gotta white knight. SC is the prime exemple of why some shackles and imposed dates (at least approximately, ginen leeway for normal delays) on a studio is NEVER a bad thing. And I say this as a backer myself.
CIG makes a mockery of SC no matter how you look at it, and the constant pushing back of EVERY important mechanics at EVERY patch without exception, forcing us to actually laugh at any "dates" they day they're attempting and adding, conservatively, a good 2-3 years to every of them, only proves that they actually bit more than they can ever chew.
@@captainharlock3998 Shush! Chris Roberts needs to install some more space airlock styled elevators in his company office building and for that he needs to sell some more JPEGS and talk like yours could have a negative effect on said JPEG sales! Also Squadron 42 is just around the corner! Chris Roberts said so himselfe! And if you cant trust Roberts.. who can you trust?
(/s if it wasnt obvious)
Thank you Obsidian. :)
I really, really cannot wait for Exodus.
Peter F Hamilton has written some fantastic stuff, really hyped
Great video.
Space game fan since Elite and Millennium on C64 and Amiga.
Been out exploring whilst my buddies were out partying lol. 😅
Love the video, but could you say which platforms each game will be available on?
Thank you Mr. Ant.
Wish they would make a space game Yamato and you jump across the galaxy to meet the gamalons every step of the way like the show.
I’m liking Project Vesperi, Eve Vanguard and Exodus.
Thanks for putting this together! And good timing too, the Star Citizen community has reached a perfect storm where things like higher expectations than ever (thanks to CIG's endless promises), the PU is buggier and less stable than ever, server performance is abysmal, yet they keep adding more complexity without having server meshing in (and functional), less disposable income than before, and impatience at its peak - there are a lot of people who could probably do with playing some other space games to take their minds off things!
don´t know if you looked at Fragile Existence, looks like quite big and interesting space strategy in development.
It sucks that no one makes space games for me. Star Citizen is the closest but that game will probably never come out. Need other sim-level space combat games with super detailed damage models
Planet Prospector seems very very interesting hmm 🤔
Flight Of The Nova might also have a few interesting updates.
How is it that every time I search “space games”, you have a recent vid 😂
Space! Space space, spaaace
I’m starting to get worried about Falling Frontier. Hoping this game won’t become a victim of ever increasing scope creep running out of control.
planet prospector kinda looks like a Space version of Frontier Pilot Simulator
Which of these will be on console as to focus on those more specifically?
In future game reviews, will you consider indicating whether the game is VR compatible or not?
I want more space games, big multiplayer space battle games.
it is in Star Citizen
Falling Frontier has been "coming next year" since 2019. At this point Star Citizen has more chance of seeing a release date!
Wish you do one of these for VR space titles.
Didn't get Quanga at all but need something to replace star citizen.
Astrometica is on my wishlist, Subnautica in space :)
It’s a playable (even if there are some bugs) game with as much of not more content than all the games in this list
@@crispy9175 Like Star Citizen hasn't ripped off every sci fi movie and trope out there.
Star Citizen will never be finished.
Good, I just want more and more content, even after 1.0
@@Paisa231 For the moment they aren't able to provide even 5 server fps, so "maybe" there won't be any 1.0.
@farfouine87 that's a you problem, shitty pc u got..
@Paisa231 I actually own an ASUS 4090. Why are you so salty?
@@joelpetersen2480 didnt answer you. I just want more added after 1.0
Mr Ant, it struck me as you mentioned the amazing Peter F Hamilton that I've never heard you talk much about scifi books you've read, perhaps there is a video there for you/us?
Am I the only one who wants all of these but rolled in to one game
Hot dang, is the age of space games back?
I hope Falling Frontier ends up being a good game!
None of them respects the basic principles of physics in space. Some of these games want to be realistic (as Star Citizen) but there’re not because of these big mistakes. They are still in a Star Wars like for what is physics.
I just realized Exodus is related to Wizards of the Coast???
(i.e. the people that handle D&D, Magic the Gathering etc.)
This makes is a serious contender...
Qanga is a literal asset flip. At least they offer a free demo so you can see how comically bad it is.
Qanga is pretty awesome for what it is and the super small team making it, excited to see where this goes i hope it geys a real fallowing!!
Spacebourne 2 just had an update to the story, a bit of polish to it. Still jank, still buggy, still pretty fun.
14:30 you know they had this on the PS3 or PS4 I forgot which under a different name .
I don't know if its true or not. But I've read/heard somewhere the Falling Frontier dev is having struggles with his in real life. Something family related. And don't get me wrong, family goes first! So, I do hope everything will be OK with him again and can continue with the game any time soon.
Man i miss Dust 514
(NO SHOUTING) *I AM REALLY INTERESTED BY EXODUS!*
cool beans
So Frontiers hit the bottom and realized they need to DO things for ED?
My interest is (barely yet) renewed. I even found my last ship half in some exploration like 30 jumps from bubble and because I didn't even remember where I was going, I returned to Shinrarta Dezhra where I have my other ships, to be ready to regroup and... relearn the game.
Does Elite let you walk around your ship yet? I don’t care about base building or colonization
some of these look VERY interesting, i have been feeling the itch of bridge-commander, i-war2 and battlestar galactica of late due to listening to a bunch of small-fleet first-forays sci-fi audiobooks but there's so litte on the market that suits, even the silent hunter games are ancient at this point and i have played FTL a lot over the years and while it's still the best of the modern age it still has narrative/RNG/control/theme limits.
jump ship was sounding like something to keep an eye on until i heard x-box. . . .hmmmmmmmmm
There is one called G-Raiders.
Star citizen does not deserve to be on this list. Just a huge let down and empty promises.
True IT will Just be a pathetic Rust in Space.
The only let down is people who do not understand the different definitions between "tentative" and "promise", in that regard, you only have yourself to blame, since CIG hasn't made any promises at all.
@@Billy-bc8pkwhat they give us is goals, goals that they consistently missed since November 2014.
where do you find exodus? Theres like 10 games named this on steam, none of them are what was listed here
falling frontier giving me blue balls year after year
If I had a penny for every time there's a scifi story where Matthew McConaughey is involved in a plot to save earth by going to another far reaching location, with general relativity effecting time differently between him and those back on earth... I'd have two pennies... which isn't a lot but it's strange that it happened twice
exodus is going to be the next big thing, mark my words.
Biggest story still the Elite dangerous comeback!
FC jump wait at this very moment 53 minutes. Yesterday hour and half. gj
what comeback? they release 2 ships and reworked a major game mechanic that is still pretty barebones. elite is wasted potential.
Is not a comeback until it's back on consoles
There's already ship interior?
@@zil0484 There isn't. But there is an actual gameplay, modular ships, power balance that makes sense, different ways of mining, different limpets, Thargoids, crashed ships, Guardian ruins, Voyager 1 and 2, working physics, exobiology, minor and major factions, reputation, engineering, trading, SLF, 2 different SRVs, different stealth missions, capital ships, generation ships with their own story, wings... And now we can even play politics better than before and participate in whole new set of missions in order to colonize the galaxy.
But no, we don't have bug-riddled ship interiors. And we also don't have 30k, sorry, E:D actually works 😄
@7:20 someone is using the "fire extinguisher", just saying 😁
i'm STILL waiting on a "modernised wing commander/x-wing" type game that's not utterly on rails like so much of squadrons was.
No clue why they forced the off-map fails so much in that game, felt like i was fighting in a showbox not in open space.
A modern wing commander game would be so nice...............
so Squadron 42?
