Mayday: Air Disaster - from Season 3 Episode 5 " Mistaken Identity": July 3, 1988 - Captain Will Rogers III of the USS Vincennes is stationed in the Persian Gulf. His ship carries one of the smartest weapons system ever designed: The billion dollar Aegis system can track every aircraft within 200 miles - up to a hundred targets at a time - and decide whether they represent a threat.
The USS Vincennes is in the Gulf to help defend traveling oil tankers from hostile Iranian speedboats. Capt. Rogers and his crew are engaged in a sea battle with the speedboats, which are equipped with machine guns and rocket launchers, when the Aegis radar picks up the track of an incoming aircraft. The ship’s sophisticated weapons system has to decide whether the aircraft is friendly, or an attacking warplane. But it can’t seem to make up its mind! The Vincennes crew grow increasingly convinced that the target is an Iranian fighter masquerading as an airliner.

"Threat" of course, in this case the warship crew was thinking that, on the 911 attacks the other part was also thinking to retaliate a possible "Threat" , so people looks like are acting not by facts but by fear, mostly....

And what did they forget there? In someone else's war, on someone else's territory, they shot down a passenger jet.Did someone call them to be "watchdogs"?

The episode on MH17 isn't nearly this sympathetic to the people shooting it down lol.

Watching this video doesn't give me enough information to pass ultimate judgement against anyone on the Vincennes or Iran Air. It certainly tracks with how the U.S. military under Ronald Reagan handled the matter of innocent lives.

The fact that he waited that long to make a decision simply puts him in an position where he had no choices. He had a crew and ship to protect. Yes its a tragity... but there was no response and from the civilian plan... and in addition, the Iranians also made a mistake by parking a military F14 plan at a civilian airport.

My understanding before even watching this was that he waited as long as possible before making that decision

So you say it's ok to kill their innocent citizens, then why do have a problem with them killing ours?

I know of at least several other countries that have shot down civilian airplanes & some even knew they were civilian & still shot them down.
The other countries will also bomb & hijack planes occupied by civilians usually of a different country.
