people in the comments are confusing. We buy fast fashion and we get criticized. We buy second hand and now we are taking away clothes from others even though they are overloaded and throw away thousands of garments all the time bc they aren’t sold? Make it make sense.
Goodwill has always been for second hand clothing for people who can’t really afford even average priced clothing. Poor people. I’ve been there. It has nothing to do with fast fashion. If you can shop at a target or something then do it. If you can buy second hand online do it. But some people have no other option so they go to stores like goodwill. That’s why they’re there. That’s why people get upset.
@@violetkalico Right i get that. I never criticized poor people for shopping there? I shop primarily second hand because it’s more ethical and it’s all I can afford 99% of the time anyways without purchasing from fast fashion places. There will never be a shortage of second hand clothing and asking people not to shop secondhand in person is ridiculous.
the issue with making thrifting trendy is it does result in less decent options for lower income individuals. they’re thrown away because they’re just not sellable- not because people don’t need them. please look into it further 💛
@@LA-fr4gp I see that and i’ve heard that a lot. I think maybe it depends where you are and where you shop. I’ve thrifted in multiple communities and cities in California and if anything i’ve seen an overflow of fast fashion trendy items overwhelming thrift stores. You can buy any shein shirt from goodwill because people won’t stop throwing them out lol. So maybe it’s because where im at doesn’t seem to have that issue? I could definitely be biased. But i don’t think the solution is to stop people from shopping second hand. Maybe encouraging people to shop at exchanges or other thrift stores that aren’t goodwills, but over all I think people shopping second hand is far better than encouraging people to consume wild amounts of fast fashion (within reason). Anywho like I said I could definitely be biased and I see where you and others are coming from. Edit: I would also like to add that they do not throw out clothes exclusively for being unsellable/damaged (and it’s usually mildew apparently that causes this at goodwill) rather because they have an overstock that didn’t sell in 4 weeks. Whatever doesn’t sell fast enough gets sent down a rabbit hole of other recycling/selling methods. Basically we are consuming and recycling too much and not buying up the used clothes. There is NO shortage.
Sometimes they have brand new stuff with tags. The goodwill near me usually always has brand new swimsuits and bras. The store by me is in a pretty well off upper class neighborhood. Most of it is probably stuff people have ordered online and they didn't fit so they donated it. I've only bought a couple VS bras though. No lingerie, lol.

@@birgittaXD yes, but can people afford them? That’s like saying that no one will starve because there’s enough food in the world (which there is). Yes a lot of clothes exist. Thrift stores were made to be affordable to those who can’t afford buying from other places. That’s the issue with ppl with money thrifting. there’s no shortage for clothing lol. so many clothes still end up in landfill. there’s also online thrifting now so options are available for everyone
People keep complaining about how people who are well off keep thrifting; so which is it, do you want them to by thrifted clothes or clothing from fast fashion brands. Just because someone has money doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to budget, save, or buy cheaper stuff. It’s called being mindful of your spending. If she had done a shein or H&M haul people would still complain.
I hate the people in the comments saying “what if the people that actually need to shop at thrift stores can’t because of all the people that do now” thrifting isn’t just for lower class it’s for everyone. For people that don’t want to blow money away on overpriced clothes.
The majority of these comments are right, goodwill’s initial purpose is for people who have low incomes and can’t afford other clothes (poor people) And yet the people with overloads of money go to goodwill and think it’s a good idea to take all the somewhat decent options that poor people can afford away from them. There is absolutely 100% nothing wrong with buying used clothing, but when you are taking it from the people without other options to shop at, that’s where the problem comes in, that’s why people get mad.
for everyone commenting, you can always wash things you buy? not to mention some thrift stores receive things never even worn before. i get things there that still have the tags and all. PLUS most thrift stores i know of put all of the clothes they receive in a washing machine before putting them on the racks etc. just think, people who are less fortunate buy these items, you wouldn’t say something to them about it? it’s not gross to buy lingerie, undergarments, swim wear, etc from thrift stores i promise.
I love thrifting but i don't have many choices of thrift in my place. I would be so happy to visit this thrift store, look like there are many nice options 💖💖
I work in a goodwill, please for the love of god people, wash your clothes at least twice before you wear them or put them in contact with your other clothes. They comes from bins that most of the time reek of smoke and cat piss. And you would have no idea how many people I see who just… change into the clothing in the store and buy it while wearing it. Gross.
how do you find such good stuff in thrift stores? i have shopped in thrift stores my whole life bc money problems and i never find much good clothes. and usually when i DO find good clothes its always wayy too big on me. its pretty rare that i find something good that fits me sorta good.

Tbh, I think the biggest issue when it comes to people going thrifting that can afford to go elsewhere is with inflation, especially at Goodwills. Because thrifting has become so popular as of late, most of Goodwill’s prices on clothing have rose, which can be hard on those that can’t afford to shop many places to begin with. It’s great that people thrift, but there’s a lot of grey area when it comes to Goodwill and thrift stores like that.
