There is also UPBGE. It's not a Godot fork, it's the Blender game engine revived in Blender 2.81. It's easier to learn than the big 3 in my opinion, it's powerful and eliminates the need to switch between programs as much.

Yeah umm... I've got developers who use Godot who are now dissociating themselves with the name. They used to be very proud to be a part of the Godot ecosystem and were helping to promote it... and now they've dropped all public identification with it. I don't use it myself but almost switched to it like so many others when Unity pulled their braindead monetization move, which they've recanted now... and with that, plenty of people went back to Unity. The only reason I don't use Unity more is because I mostly make 2D games and have my own game engine for that which is many times more efficient, but that's another story. Bottom line is that Godot has lost a lot of good faith among developers because of this 200IQ move, and this is the start of the fall.
100% agree. I'm a trans woman myself, but I only say that to point out that I don't use that as the reasoning for why I keep my job. I focus on my work and I do my best to perform. This is all incredibly stupid and the foundation's gaslighting attempt is embarrassing, but at the same time, Godot is free. You don't have to pay a dime, you don't have to sign a contract to use it, the foundation can't prevent you from doing whatever you want with the engine, and you don't even have to mention that you're using Godot anywhere. So I heavily doubt this behavior is going to make a lot of people switch to Unity or Unreal. Maybe to Bevy or O3DE, which are also free and open source, but not nearly as easy to use. This event is still going to cost the Godot project a lot though. Many more tech savvy users will no longer want to engage with the development team, sponsors will jump ship, and a Godot fork like Redot might ultimately take over.

Godot was such a promising alternative to Unity. Good news is since it's open source, it's already being forked. I did corporate social media for about a year and a half, around 2013-2014. Wasn't my main job. "Other duties as assigned". I was already a traffic reporter and had worked service jobs at this point. So not totally inexperienced. I also did learn SM coordination from a friend of mine who's a professional brand manager. All you have to do is maintain a positive and helpful customer service vibe at all times. That's it. Even when dealing with whackos. Especially when dealing with wackos. Unfortunately, this has become a lost art. Gen Z especially (but a lot of millennials too) lack the soft skills to be able to do this. People say you're the face of the company, but you really aren't. Rather the company becomes your persona. Your followers aren't there for your personal opinions. They're there for company news, product updates, or to report issues/complain. If your personal opinions do leak into this persona, then those become the official opinions of the company in the eyes of the public. You absolutely have to maintain separation. This is why companies need professional brand managers handling these accounts. It's not something you can just hand off to an intern. This is why Godot's management is 100% responsible for what's happened. They presumably interviewed her, saw the green hair, saw the pronouns, saw the lack of professional marketing and PR experience, and still gave her the keys to the kingdom. Same with that Xanax guy. If you make a software product that's FOSS and released under the MIT license, largely used by people who write software for a living or as a hobby, and you piss a large chunk of them off, you're beyond stupid. That's the one thing I even tell people. The only time I could possibly even use their pronouns is when I'm talking ABOUT you and not TO you. So I don't care nor need to know about their special pronouns, they will never be used in a face-to-face meeting.

There is also UPBGE. It's not a Godot fork, it's the Blender game engine revived in Blender 2.81. It's easier to learn than the big 3 in my opinion, it's powerful and eliminates the need to switch between programs as much.

Yeah umm... I've got developers who use Godot who are now dissociating themselves with the name. They used to be very proud to be a part of the Godot ecosystem and were helping to promote it... and now they've dropped all public identification with it. I don't use it myself but almost switched to it like so many others when Unity pulled their braindead monetization move, which they've recanted now... and with that, plenty of people went back to Unity. The only reason I don't use Unity more is because I mostly make 2D games and have my own game engine for that which is many times more efficient, but that's another story. Bottom line is that Godot has lost a lot of good faith among developers because of this 200IQ move, and this is the start of the fall.

100% agree. I'm a trans woman myself, but I only say that to point out that I don't use that as the reasoning for why I keep my job. I focus on my work and I do my best to perform. If anything, me being a minority in that regard is more reason to push myself harder, to show that I earned my position and I wasn't brought on to fill a diversity quota. This is all incredibly stupid and the foundation's gaslighting attempt is embarrassing, but at the same time, Godot is free. You don't have to pay a dime, you don't have to sign a contract to use it, the foundation can't prevent you from doing whatever you want with the engine, and you don't even have to mention that you're using Godot anywhere. So I heavily doubt this behavior is going to make a lot of people switch to Unity or Unreal. Maybe to Bevy or O3DE, which are also free and open source, but not nearly as easy to use. This event is still going to cost the Godot project a lot though. Many more tech savvy users will no longer want to engage with the development team, sponsors will jump ship, and a Godot fork like Redot might ultimately take over.
I'm trying to remember the terms, and I'm pretty sure you had to pay them some royalties if you sold for a lot of money. But selling for little money, I think it was free.

Godot was such a promising alternative to Unity. Good news is since it's open source, it's already being forked.
I did corporate social media for about a year and a half, around 2013-2014. Wasn't my main job. "Other duties as assigned". I was already a traffic reporter and had worked service jobs at this point. So not totally inexperienced. I also did learn SM coordination from a friend of mine who's a professional brand manager. All you have to do is maintain a positive and helpful customer service vibe at all times. That's it. Even when dealing with whackos. Especially when dealing with wackos. Unfortunately, this has become a lost art. Gen Z especially (but a lot of millennials too) lack the soft skills to be able to do this.
People say you're the face of the company, but you really aren't. Rather the company becomes your persona. Your followers aren't there for your personal opinions. They're there for company news, product updates, or to report issues/complain. If your personal opinions do leak into this persona, then those become the official opinions of the company in the eyes of the public. You absolutely have to maintain separation. This is why companies need professional brand managers handling these accounts. It's not something you can just hand off to an intern. This is why Godot's management is 100% responsible for what's happened. They presumably interviewed her, saw the green hair, saw the pronouns, saw the lack of professional marketing and PR experience, and still gave her the keys to the kingdom. Same with that Xanax guy. If you were working for a professional marketing firm and ever dropped the N-bomb in any corporate channel, you'd be out the door before your chair stopped spinning.

The problem is, the activists don't just want to exist, they want to be celebrated. Otherwise, they'll throw a fit. To them, it's not enough to say "I don't care how you identify". They demand praise.

(23:10) If you have to use that form that they link to dispute, remember to use a throwaway email or they'll collect your PID. There's a lot that they can gain just by getting your Twitter Handle and Email. Those two help a lot as fingerprints for cyberstalking purposes. For instance, resumes tend to include personal email addresses. And handle names tend to be used on other social media sites. The form is a tool to link the two. Seriously, it's not worth telling them who you are and where to find you.
As a sidenote, I think this is a phishing attempt by the Godot higher-ups. It's suspicious that they don't use the official dispute mechanism and instead use a Google Forms to gather extra information like email, last post, and reason to unban. To be unbanned, you wouldn't normally need those as X and Github have your email already and security teams don't trust self-reported information. So this also makes the dispute form a walk of shame.
A further note, I didn't spot this attempt. That would be Grummz. I'm just here to bring awareness to it and add details.
they probably don't want the disputes to pile up in the account and call attention, though I'm sure MS would back them up. Having a side channel makes easier to just dismiss them, like a complaint form box that just gets emptied in the trashcan.
@@MadsterV Minus the walk of shame, that is probably the intention. However, the handle can be used to determine whether you like or hate a person. The email can be used to find a real person. Link the two and then you have a trove of data on a real person.
It's not a safe assumption to make when the people responsible are willing to ban you just for telling them to leave the politics out.
If you make a software product that's FOSS and released under the MIT license, largely used by people who write software for a living or as a hobby, and you piss a large chunk of them off, you're beyond stupid. They're not "cleansing the community" with this; they've just driven their community away. They don't have a community anymore. It's only a matter of time until the forked project overtakes the original in terms of both tech and usage.

This will test my assumption to open source. I assume that anyone or any organisation can be a steward of the code. IE, if the current stewards are a--holes, another entity can take over or fork the project. In a BSD license, a corporation can take a open-source code and make it proprietary. EG, Apple using UNIX.

IDK about any one else, but if i was a mod, the only people getting blocked are the ones that cant keep their mouths clean, and the ones that give obvious clown/bait responses.
People can have opinions. Employees can have political stances.
Companies should never have a political bent, unless that's the express purpose of your company. If you're a game engine or a game platform, you should be as politically neutral as possible, as a company. By all means, shout out games using your engine. But keep it neutral in tone.
From what I've heard this is just yet another rogue community manager. Person should be fired immediately if that's the case. This one person is making the entire company look terrible.

This is where the board of directors should give a clear warning to the CEO that they will be personally responsible for anything that impacts the company's bottom line and their will be consequences if they don't take care of the issue immediately. That's were you will see not just the employee who thinks they can be an activist during company time or represent the company be fired, but the HR department getting rid of anyone that supports this type of behavior.
