These are absolutely beautiful photos. On your excellent D500 this lens is 300 to 750 which makes these photos even more outstanding.. My D850 will put this in the 200-500 range. Outstanding shots!
Mike, believe me I would do it right away ... Imagine what this superb lens would do with all the power of the new Nikon Z9? I'm waiting to have it in my hands as soon as possible! Thanks again for your liking !!! Orazio
@@OrazioScuderiEtneo71NaturaViva for some reason my posts get deleted if I refer to a source outside of YT. The resolving power of the 200-500 has been measured at about 36 megapixels which oddly enough is a good figure compared to other lenses produced. That might explain why this lens gets rave reviews of sharpness. Find an article titled, Why Nikon Should Not Make DSLRs Over 36 MP Let me know, what you think. The Z lenses are resolving at a better rate.
Dear Mike! I tested the Nikkor 200-500 both with the D4S (16.2 Mpixel), then with the D500 (20.9 Mpixel) for many years, with great satisfaction. I had the opportunity to try it with the D850 (45.4 Mpixel) to understand the potential of so many megapixels! In fact, with a monster like the D850, you can take photographs with a 200-500mm, knowing that in case of reducing the file by half 45.4 / 2 = 22.7 Mpixel, it would allow you to have a file that, using the crop, would have an "angular opening" of the field of view, similar to a 400-1000mm. Indeed, after such amazing tests, I decided to take the 500mm PF with a fixed aperture of 5.6. Using the reduction of the file in half as mentioned above, 22.7Mpixel, to reach when necessary an angular view similar to a 1000mm focal length and without using Teleconverter, with obvious advantage for the working diaphragm. Now that Nikon has decided to build a Z9 with a full-frame 45Mpixel FX sensor, and until a native 200-600 Z is produced, I will continue to work with these amazing AF-S lenses. My best regards and I look forward to hearing what you think !!!
Thanks for your liking !! These shots, as always outdoors and only natural light, for a distance that varies from 10mt to 50mt and sometimes even 60mt ... I used a diaphragm of f.8 and a variable iso max 2000! I hope I answered your curiosity !! My best regards !!
I having the same camera and lens as you have am wondering what your preference is for sharpest pics for birds in flight at 200-300 mm in sun obscured by clouds lighting ..i use man with 5.6 arp. and auto iso set to max depending on lighting ..and adjust shutter speed as high as i can while watching to keep the light meter just under 0 ..increasing the shutter speed when the subject is flying across the direct line towards the sun ..at 5.6 its still hard to achieve a sharp image and ive tried every combo of focus settings there is ..stuck on matrix and either 19 or 72 points . I tried some of the other settings ..group etc but didnt have much success ..mb i need to keep trying ? Interested to hear your opinion on focussing ..thx Derek
Hi Derek, I no longer have the 200-500 since I switched to 500mm PF, but the settings have practically remained the same on the D500, except for the use of the diaphragm which with the 500 fixed I practically leave it locked at 5.6 because the lens has a sharpness and obviously superior resolving capacity. You can try to track the subject like my basic settings: Central autofocus 9 points to lock the target, immediate switching, with dedicated key already set in Auto autofocus, where all the sensors are activated by the closest movement of the subject, always holding down the transto AF ON, which allows the system to continue to maintain the best focus prediction. Manual mode, automatic ISO, over or under exposure based on the general brightness of the scene and the color of the subject. Shutter speed and lens stabilizer are variable depending on the general brightness, but generally I don't care about taking pictures over 4000 iso. Hoping to have understood and answered your question, I thank you and I look forward to hearing from you !! Happy New Year with my best regards !!! Orazio
