- This is a collection of outtakes from the movie sections of Origin's classic 1995 PC space shooter Wing Commander 3. It was one of the first games to feature FMV with recognisable actors including the likes of Malcolm McDowell and Mark Hamill.
The special edition of the game came with a 9 minute blooper video on an extra CD. This longer version comes from a VHS I got from one of the developers. The quality isn't too bad but it's obvious this came from an ancient video tape.

What I still dont get is the story and actors are so much better in the game than in the movie, what went wrong?

Fuchsia 'tude Seriously?? The game had very well notable characters. Maclolm McDowell was brilliant as Tolwyn and Mark Hamill as Christopher Blair was such an excellent choice. A game that drew a lot from Star Wars casting Mark Hamill of all actors was so suitable. They could have done so much with this game franchise. But I think the movie killed its longevity.

I love this game when I was in HS. The bloopers are fantastic.
I had the special collector's edition that you had to order direct from Origin, that came in a film can, with a fantastic t-shirt, a calendar, a novel, a blooper CD-ROM, and a blooper VHS tape. This is mostly the same as the blooper tape, with a few additions.

So there was this dream I had, and It was Luke Skywalker and Gimli, and they were like old friends hanging out at a bar, but Biff Tannen was just soaking the place with ego the whole time, bragging about how everybody knew him and he was the only one worth anything.... Crazy dream, huh?
This brought me back to an incredible time- and this is really one of the best video games of the 1990's- incredibly ahead of its time. Worth changing out a CD every 30 minutes.
I don't recall CD swaps being that often. From memory, the first CD got you to about mission 6 or so, which was respectable considering how much video this game contained.

Actually when I played these games the first in particular I found it easier with the contr5ols by using the keyboard rather than the joystick...

This is a great find! Underrated cast, and an excellent game that also works as a good story. None of them should ever be ashamed of this credit on their imdb page.

seems he wont be in squadron 42 unfortunatly. i was hoping they might add more for episode 2 and 3 but apparantly they did all 3 episodes already... theres sure to be more star citizen campaigns... perhapes another set of squadron 42 or maybe other kinds
Ah VHS tracking issues. Them's were the days, sonny boy ... them's were the days.
Easy to correct though, almost all VCRs can do manual tracking. That's the good thing about analogue media: Even badly damaged, you still see the important stuff. Something like a CD-R would be totally unreadable by now. Good that those weren't around in 1994.
When I was a kid (and didn't know who Ginger Lynn was...) I never saw anything about Rachel's lines... Then I hit my teens... god damn those double meanings!!!

Maniac...absolute gaming legend! Tom Wilson was the best choice for this character! His "Four Queens" scene in Wing Commander 4 is one of the funniest things in any game or film!

Tom appeared at The improv in Addison Texas, a northern Dallas suburb, a year or two after this game came out. I went to his show wearing my Wing Commander 3 t-shirt, and he spent almost the entire time between his first and second show just hanging out with me and chatting. I'll never forget that, it was very kind of him and meant a lot to me at the time. What an awesome guy.

Mark Hamil took the lead role in this and Star Wars, but judging by his sense of humor and desire to play off-beat characters that is what he should be doing, playing assholes like "The Joker". :D

Is it sad I expect Malcolm McDowell to beat everyone up after watching A Clockwork Orange? Seriously, he sounds pretty much the same (and that is one chilling voice), and his laugh is the stuff of nightmares after watching that movie.

I had this game on my Panasonic 3DO. I've beat it few times. Recently I saw in youtube the upscaled cinematics all of them.
The 3DO version was also how I started, but combined with the CH Flightstick, it was space flight sim heaven

There was an option for immortality in one menu. I didn't known english at the time but I got it. That's how I beat the game. Happy to talk about with fellow gamer.
Played this years ago on ps1 could never complete it
Then played wc4 and was amazing. They should have made a movie following 4 or a tv series or even at the time direct to vhs movies

Imagine my surprise years later about her work past. Better actress than you'd think from her field of experience... and actually played a sincerely cute and fun character. I never clicked her porn out of fear that I couldn't enjoy her character anymore.

Mark Hamill is one of the WORSt actors i have ever seen that has reached his level of fame..However, he is an AMAZING voice actor. The cartoons and games i have heard him on he is truly second to none.
He's not that bad of an actor, and compared to ignorant cartoon-loving teenage shits like you, he's downright oscar-worthy.

Thinking about it you might be right. But he's still cool just because he's Luke Skywalker.
He's actually a better actor than most of the folks you see on the big screen today. And one of the reasons is that he has his own oppinion about stuff and isn't shy of sharing it. Hamill was the only cast member of TLJ who had the balls to say that it was crap from a cinematic point of view, and even if one could try disputing that, no contemporary actor would dare doing something like that.

One reason why the 2D pixel art of Wing Commander II was superior to the FMV of Wing Commander 3.
Until Wing Commander IV and it's DVD quality cinematics came in. But that's just my opinion.
Sorta. Pixel art, 3D rendering and FMV are all different mediums with different aesthetics. One's not really better or worse than the others, although within each medium there are differing levels of quality so in that respect they can be compared. Good pixel art is better than bad FMV or 3D rendering is basically my argument, and the FMV and 3D rendering in Wing Commander III was incredibly poor compared to the pixel art of Wing Commander II. Chris wanted a movie, so he did the best he could at the time.
