The Andy Griffith Show is an American sitcom first televised by CBS between October 3, 1960, and April 1, 1968. Andy Griffith portrays the widowed sheriff of the fictional small community of Mayberry, North Carolina. His life is complicated by an inept, but well-meaning deputy, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), a spinster aunt and housekeeper, Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and a precocious young son, Opie (Ron Howard).
Local ne'er-do-wells, bumbling pals, and temperamental girlfriends further complicate his life. Andy Griffith stated in a Today Show interview, with respect to the time period of the show: "Well, though we never said it, and though it was shot in the '60s, it had a feeling of the '30s. It was when we were doing it, of a time gone by." The series never placed lower than seventh in the Nielsen ratings and ended its final season at number one. It has been ranked by TV Guide as the 9th-best show in television history.
The moment when you realize this show is sixty years old this year...
I thought it would be fifty four years
We look at this time era (60 years ago) how people then looked at the late 1800's
62 years ago now

The best wordless TV theme song ever made!!
Edit: After a few comments I want to add a few honorable mentions...
Alfred Hitchcock
Twilight Zone
Pink Panther
I Dream of Jeannie
Bob ross?
Was a producer for the show
There were lyrics Andy Griffith sang them once
There are words. The name of the song is called the old fishing hole sung by Andy Griffith
M.A.S.H?
I remember listening to this show at night at my grandparent's house. The only thing I remember is that theme song.
Yeah! and I used to boil my water in an empty ol kerosine tin!
I never watched this show. I used to just tune in to hear the theme song.

The story behind the song:
“Anyone who grew up watching 60s television knows that a show’s theme song was as important as the actors or the script-the first and last thing the audience heard. The Andy Griffith Show‘s theme was written by Earle Hagen and Herbert Spencer with (rarely heard) lyrics by Everett Sloane. Hagen- who also composed themes for The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, The Mod Squad and That Girl-wrote what he considered his most tossed-off for this one. He said of the whistled melody, aka “The Fishin’ Hole,” “I realized what the show needed was a simple tune. So I spent all of 15 minutes writing it. I called my bass player and drummer, and we recorded it in a little studio in Hollywood. I whistled the tune myself.”
Hey I used to whach this with my grandma and was probably one of my best shows and I'm a kid
I'm only 22 but god do i miss watching AG with my dad and grandpa as a kid. I know if i asked he'd sit down to watch it with me in no time but grandpa is long gone.
Listening this with tears flowing from my eyes ❤️
Why??
Simpler times. I'm just old enough to have caught the tail end of it and see the dawn of a new era of media consumption.
TBH it was a much healthier time. All this internet media consumption, RUclips, Tiktok, streaming, social media is a double edged sword. Great in some ways but a total soulless sh*tshow in others.
@@wajadrahimi9003 ...because it was a different and simpler era.
Such a happy song, but tinged with sadness that nearly all of the actors that were regulars in the show are gone. Maybe the best loved TV show of all time. I’ve probably seen every episode 50 times, and I never get tired of Mayberry and the people that live there.
I've probably also watched every B&W episode at least 50 times, except for the Darlings and Earnest T. Bass.
That scene was filmed right here at Franklin Canyon in Southern California.
This show is a little before my time but it's still my favorite opening song for TV show. Father and Son going fishing, all that's needed is whistling
This take me back to childhood coming home from elementary school in Mom turning on the kitchen TV and I would sit and do homework while watching this. I think everyone who grew up in North Carolina grew up watching this
U are so right! I'm from North Carolina myself, born and raised. Every time I listen to this theme song I know it's all about simplicity and innocence and wholesome country living.
Every time this show comes on and the theme song is playing, my 1 yr old daughter smiles from ear to ear and she dances to the music🎶
i love this show i grew up watching it with my dad :)
Same here, I'm getting close to turning 28 and it's so nostalgic. Those were simpler times.
I'm 35, and never thought anybody younger than me would have heard of this show, much less seen it. I was born and raised in NC, my mother met Andy, and several other celebrities.
@@bibby42 23, also grew up watching with my dad. classic
@@bibby42 I'm 26, I watched this show all the time as a kid. TV Land played this all the time. It was one of the few times that my sister and I could agree on a show to watch.
The closing credits always makes me think of two products, Sanka coffee and Log Cabin syrup!
My grandma played this all the time the intro and outro is so addicting
Netflix is canceling Andy Griffith in 2 days on July 1st 2020. Keep Andy Griffith on Netflix. Spread the word!!!! #AndyGriffithMatters!!!

This show was on all the time when I was a kid. I remember this intro quite well.
Still a Classic after all these years
I've been rewatching the show lately. It's so wonderful and wholesome. It's nice not listening to profanity and not seeing inappropriate scenes every few minutes. Also, it's not a stressful show. You can let your mind relax while watching an episode before bed. 👍
@@Tessa3yearsAgo From a world we will never ever see again !!!!!
I used to watch this with my grandpa when I was little in the late 90’s early 00’s. We also watched leave it to Beaver, gun smoke, bonanza, and the 3 stooges.
haven't heard this in year why is it in my head GET OUT OF MY HEAD
this show was the best ever, I wasnt alive when it first aired but i got to experience it now from reruns thank you god
Remembering being sick from school with my grandparents watching after me. The news would come on at noon and, on the dot, this came on at 12:30. I had my favorite lunch of my grandma’s Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, and Lima beans while I worked up enough energy to watch this show for a half hour on the TV, which only had 3 channels, before falling back asleep again. Forever missing you, Granny and “Grumps” (ironically the sweetest man alive).
I wish that they brought these back on TV
It plays a lot on TV Land on weekdays.
This show never left the air since it first aired back in 1960. It's on all the time where I live, thank God
Pluto tv
The Woke elements would be too much.
The ending theme is perfect and the ending is satisfying !!!!!
When i feel nostalgic i will almost always whistle this song
will forever appreciate living with my granny
what a well respected man
In loving memory of actress Betty Lynn, who played Thelma Lou on 'The Andy Griffith Show' (August 29, 1926 - October 16, 2021). She will be greatly missed.
Thelma Lou was sooo darn cute. 🙂
RIP to Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Aneta Corsaut, Frances Bavier and Jim Nabors! #mayberry #mymomsfavoriteshow
Well at least we still got Ronny and his daughter Bryce. Sure Ronny was 14 when the show ended. But Bryce is lucky to have him for a daddy.
Holy cow?! I never knew Bob Ross produced The Andy Griffith show

wow, what an iconic show intro.
My dad was 5 years old when this show premiered.
Grew up watching this show on fox around 10am after I love Lucy in the early 90’s.
The opening music was heard in some CBS reruns of Season 5 episodes
This is one ear worm I don’t mind

Sometimes I wish that song would play when I went about my day. lol I would be in the best mood.
I remember this theme, but I also remember a higher-pitch version of it. It was played in the earlier years of the show.

My grandfather n my dad watched the original run 1960-1968 I watched them late 90s reruns 😆🤣😂
I will pray for the whole world to go to heaven
I remember my grandma and/or mom getting me ready for Kindergarten and this would be on TV. This, Golden Girls, the News, or if I was lucky, Boomerang and the Smurfs or something would be on. Good ol’ 2000. Before the attack. 😞🥲
Beautiful
I know a lot of people will say Seinfeld Cheers and Mash were the three best sitcoms of the 20th century but I disagree with that me personally I think The Andy Griffith Show was the best sitcom family show of the 20th century.
They used to air this show on some tv program, and I loved watching it as an eight year old. I hardly remember anything from this show, but I remember a part where the skinny police man (idk his name) almost shot his foot made me laugh really hard
That police man’s name was Barney Fife. He was Sheriff Andy Taylor’s deputy.
1:00 Executive producers: Sheldon and Leonard from The Big Bang Theory? 😄
Yessir and I only play this song my my birdy hehe
I grew up In Philadelphia, but, I was born in Newton Kansas! And it’s just like Mayberry here! It’s as funny as hell! Everyone is like a hillbilly, in fact they are! It’s okay, though, because my cousin is Tracy Lawrence the country singer! And my two uncles played professional football for the Chicago bears and one of them is the grandfather of my cousin Tracy Lawrence! My mom told me all about it, I didn’t believe her so I checked up on it and she was right, so I should be proud of where I was born! I’m a midwesterner!
The reason Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet was because almost no one was married.
Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober, Gomer, Sam, Earnest T. Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou, Clara and of course, Opie were all single.
The only married person was Otis, and he stayed drunk.
LOL I think you may have stumbled on to something there! The only other couple I can recall off the top of my head was the Maytag repairman guy and his wife who bickered all the time.
You are a HORRIBLE lonely person, do you know that?!
Anybody have any idea what happened to the real ending? Where Andy and Opie are walking away down the road they entered, Opie is carrying a string of fish, one of the fish falls off, Opie stops to pick it up while Andy does not notice and keeps walking, only finally to turn around to see what happened to Opie who is wiping the fish that fell off the string onto his pants. He runs and catches back up with Andy and they walk off. For some odd reason this ending has completely disappeared.
I want to see that
ruclips.net/video/cLPmrJEO6sA/видео.html right here buddy
Oh yeah, that's right! I completely forgot about that one. Wow, what a mind bending time traveling moment your comment had on me. Thanks.
This song should be the National Anthem.

The Andy Griffith Show Opie's Job Aired on CBS September 13, 1965
i used to watch this show when i was 7 i think at my grandmas house
for the first few seasons frances bavier was not listed in the credits i watch it almost every day
You ever just start whistling this outta nowhere or is it just me lmao.
Yep I do I use to watch the show with my dad when I was a little boy
Yup
So this is the family guy reference, now I see.
This has the be the best theme song ever
RIP Jim Nabors aka Gomer Pyle
My bird has been whistling this since I was a little boy!!
Several episodes of Highway Patrol with Broderick Crawford were filmed at this location.
After watching every episode of this show, most several times, I just noticed something about the intro. Where is the bait? Every time they caught a fish on the show, the fish is caught on live bait. But in the intro, neither Andy or Opie are carrying bait. It probably was a slow fishing day.
Gen Z kid, here. I’ve never seen the show, and I can’t really tell from the opening, but is the kid here Ronny Howard? As in Ron Howard, like from Happy Days? Because if so, nice. That was a good show too.
IT IS! As of this writing, TODAY is his 70th birthday! Congrats on the milestone, Ronny-- um... Mr. Ron Howard!
Am I the only one noticed that Opie didn’t have on any fucking shoes? My dad used to watch this show and probably still do and I swear I never noticed that until today
RIP to Maggie Peterson aka Charlene Darling
Mannn my grandpa love this dam show Rip Paw
Anyone else after listening to Respected Man by Shotgun Willy and Yung Craka?
The Andy Griffith Show /starring Andy Griffith with Ronny Howard also starring Don Knotts and Frances Bavier.
Wish we had people act like the people in the town of Mayberry today. Who’s rewatching this show?
Anyone else here because of a bird?
You caught me 😂
I'm here because of 'Scrubs'...
Yes!!!
Yep!
A.f.v.
Just realized this setting entrance them song by the pines trees and lakes came out in the rifleman mark twain episode!
I’m only 21 but I hear that theme and KNOW
After Barney left and the show went to color, Andy just wasn't the same to me. The black and white episodes (Seasons 1-5) will always be the best. Of course, I did enjoy one colored episode where Opie and his friend played a joke on Goober by making him think that his dog could talk. In the end after Andy discovered what had happened, he and Goober decided to play a practical joke of their own on the boy and show them that practical jokes can hurt people. Opie got taken to the woodshed afterwards.
I feel the theme song for seasons 6-8 was better, but the storylines themselves for seasons 1-5 (with Barney/Don Knotts) were better.
lmao i used to watch this with my grandpa
The 1965-68 color episodes will probably never be shown on MeTV!
I’m so weird I was whistling this when I was drawing
Whats up guys prince charming
Nostalgia
My pug loves this tune
I’m 22 years old, seen this show since childhood. Just now realizing its Griffith and not Griffin………How?
Filmed at Franklin canyon reservoir located in the Beverly Hills mountains
RIP 🪦 Andy Griffith
This show came out when I was a little boy
Why doesn’t Me TV show the color episodes
Because they think people will not like them, they,re wrong this show was on for 8 years and was considered to be one of the best family sit coms of all time !!!!!
Yeah i wish they did
Shhh David Goodenough

I hope everyone watching this comment have a really nice day.Always remember that Hampter wish you have a nice day :].
Story consultant Bob Ross! Holy shit!
USA has gone down hill. It was such a nice place.
Here in deep red America it’s still like this.
He never knew the rock landed on the father of the family having a picnic.
At the end...Produced by, Bob Ross. Could it be, years before he took up the canvas!?
I was intrigued by that, too, but after doing some digging, it turns out it was a different Bob Ross (www.imdb.com/name/nm0743259/ ). The future painter-Bob Ross was serving in the Air Force while the Andy Griffith Show was in production, so it's highly unlikely he would've had anything to do with the show. Would've been awesome if it was him, though (also, sorry for replying to an old comment, but thought it deserved a response).
Anyone here from Brewstew’s latest video
I am lmfao I thought I wasn't going find people here from Brewster💀
Bruce Bruce lives this show
I wish i grew up in that era when America had values
Yes, people still had morals back then. I wish I lived in that time, too.
It was the absolute best!
